News and Commentary for January 17 – 20

The news may be grim, but hang in there if you can!

The news may be grim, but hang in there if you can!

This: “We’re being led away from the fundamental principles upon which “happiness” is built – God and virtue.” And this: “Our culture and our schools have incubated and birthed the “new principle” that we are “owed” happiness, that society “owes” happiness to others. This fallacy has been promulgated by a progressive movement – a movement that has been unchecked by a lazy citizenry.” Virtue and the Pursuit of Happiness

If Common Core is fully implemented, there will be no stopping the Progressives. “In an interview with Breitbart News, Moore illuminated the hidden agenda behind the Common Core initiative, particularly its drive to remove classical literature from schools and replace it with “informational texts,” a move, he said, that will make children superficial and biased in their thinking.” Hillsdale Professor Dr. Terrence Moore: Common Core ‘Superficial, Biased, Embarrassingly Dumb’

Hiding who they really are, because if the low information voters knew who they really were… “You know you’re in real trouble when the Blue Dog Democrat Caucus invites you into its midst in an effort to give you political protection. That’s what just happened to Arizona Representatives Ron Barber and Kyrsten Sinema (Why not Ann Kirkpatrick?) as the mid-term election cycle kicks off.” Expanding the Blue Dog Democrat Franchise in Arizona

If you haven’t already read this, you must now. “We are in unprecedented trouble. Citizens know this. It’s why they buy guns. They see unfixable America around them, they think it’s all going to fall apart. In Washington (and New York) they huff and puff their disapproval: Those Americans with their guns, they’re causing a lot of trouble. But Americans think they’re in trouble because their leaders are too selfish to face challenges that will do us in.” Our Selfish ‘Public Servants’

Question posed by the infamous Dr. Krauthammer. “How in good conscience could a commander-in-chief send troops to fight a war he wasn’t serious about”? Not His War

Reprehensible. “Why are the Benghazi killers still at large?” The Real Scandal

Double standards on steroids is more like it. “The double standard here is clear. While no one is saying that Clinton deliberately sent Ambassador Chris Stevens and three others to their deaths, she was the person responsible for this disaster. Had any other presidential contender been in charge of an agency whose negligence led to four deaths, it is hard to imagine they would not be disqualified in the eyes of the general public by it, let alone be acclaimed as a likely next president of the United States as is the case with Clinton. But the idea of derailing the chances of electing our first woman president merely because of an inconvenient terrorist attack in Libya is unimaginable to most of our chattering classes. That’s why this report isn’t likely to generate any more coverage of the issue in the coming days, weeks, and months than previous discussions of the scandal.” Benghazi Won’t Stop Guilty Hillary

Watch the video! “The judge nails the coffin shut on Clinton’s duplicity and negligence as Secretary of State.” Benghazi: Judge Jeanine Pirro Utterly Destroys Hillary Clinton

Start watching for the “Ready for Hillary 2016” bumper stickers. I’ve already seen a couple of them. One here in Scottsdale, another in Las Vegas over the weekend. “Put aside the fact that the “more than any secretary of state” part isn’t actually true — Condi Rice flew more. When you ask, “Okay, what did she get for it?” you get a blank stare or you get some stuff about championing women’s rights. Two people have told me she did good work in Myanmar, but I’ve never really gotten to the bottom of that. I suppose I could look it up, but at the end of the day we’re still talking about Myanmar, which is not the locus of America’s most pressing international problems. (“That’s right, because Hillary prevented the Myanmarese hegemony,” someone at MSNBC just shrieked. “She stopped it cold.”) While the Wikipedia page on her tenure doesn’t even mention Myanmar, it does mention her championing of better cook stoves in the Third World. That’s good. And so is improving the plight of women in various countries where their status ranges between “Slightly More Important than the Village Mule” to “So Incredibly Delicate We Must Keep Them Covered with Burlap Sacks All Day Long Even Though It’s Like 115 Degrees in the Shade Today.” Hillary the Hyped

My gut says we win in 2014, but I have my doubts in 2016. I hope I am wrong. “Liberals are still convinced that their vision is what America wants and needs and that Obama is the right man to give it to us. Assuming Republicans don’t immolate themselves — always a possibility — that vision will receive yet another massive rebuke in November. The interesting question then will be whether liberals question the soundness of their faith or insist that the fault lies entirely with the false prophet who failed to deliver them to the Promised Land.” Rebuking the ‘New’ New Deal

I don’t think the madness will ever end with so many low information voters in our midst. “Five years and one piddling “recovery” later, and progressives are fully convinced that the only thing that went wrong with their big-government, more spending, more taxes, more financial/healthcare/environmental regulation, faux-stimulus style of governing is that Republicans haven’t allowed them to do even more of it. Where does it end, where does it end?” Cavuto: Why do we willingly fork over more money to known spending addicts and expect a different result?

We won’t be silenced. “Democrats are working hard to make sure conservative groups are silenced in the 2014 midterms.” IRS Targeting and 2014

Commentary on the “IRS Targeting and 2014” article linked above. “Kimberly Strassel’s weekly Wall Street Journal column “IRS targeting and 2014″ is something of a bombshell. As Mark Tapscott explains, Strassel reports that keeping the IRS “muzzle in place” for 2014 was Obama’s top priority during negotiations with House Republicans on the just-passed omnibus spending bill. The vehicle for keeping the muzzle in place is the recently proposed IRS rule that proscribes all kinds of educational activities that 501(c)(4) non-profits have routinely conducted. In other words, the Obama administration seeks to achieve legally by regulation in 2014 what it achieved illegally by agents acting under orders in the 2012 election cycle. What were once vices are now to become the law.” What were once vices are now Dem priority

Don’t give up on this! It’s too important. “Discover looms in the case, and we will get to the bottom of one of the most significant – and consequential – political scandals in recent American history. Justice may be delayed, but it will not be denied.” It’s time to investigate the bogus IRS ‘investigation’

“Frankly, it is difficult for Tea Party and other conservatives to see the Justice Department’s waiver of culpability by means of a cursory FBI investigation as anything other than a coverup. The more severe among conservatives are bound to see the exoneration of the IRS’ despicable behavior toward conservatives as evidence of corruption and collusion with the Obama administration, especially since the leader of the alleged “investigation” was an Obama donor. Jay Sekulow of the ACLJ has been among the more forthright, calling the FBI’s pitiful investigative efforts a “sham.” Move Along: Nothing to See at the IRS

Leftists don’t grow economies, they shrink them. “Unfortunately President Obama appears to have caught the Sandinista disease. And the Business Roundtable and the whole American business community will have on heck of a time turning him around. But then again, that’s what elections are for. And that’s why we’re going to see big changes come November.” Business Wants Growth, Growth, Growth

Why the secrecy? “It’s not easy to enforce discipline on successful, wealthy, and famous people used to having their own way. But the White House apparently did not want to see photos of the first lady’s glittery gala circulating around the Internet. So it imposed a strict rule: No cellphones. “Guests were told not to bring cellphones with them, and there was a cellphone check-in area for those who did,” reported the Chicago Tribune. “Signs at the party told guests: No cellphones, no social media.” People magazine added: “Guests had been greeted by a ‘cell phone check’ table where they deposited their camera phones on arrival and it was understood that this was not an occasion for Tweeting party photos or Facebooking details.” The publications cited sources who insisted on anonymity for fear of White House reprisal.” White House imposes secrecy rules on first lady’s lavish, celebrity-filled birthday party

Governor Scott Walker tells us how we should talk to folks about our party, and the Democrats. “… that the Left, they want you under their thumb. They want to control you. They want to control your lives. They want you to be dependent on the government. We should say we’re the ones, not only for the poor, but for young people coming out of college, for working class families, for immigrants, for others out there. We should say we are the ones who empower the American Dream.” John Hawkins Interviews Scott Walker

“Bingo.  The architect of “the most transparent administration in history”; a man who repeatedly promised the public that “if you like your health care plan, you can keep it, period”; the fellow who put it about that the slaughter of four Americans in Benghazi on September 11, 2012, was caused by an internet video; the guy who has twice raised his right hand and sworn to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States” to the best of his ability while also (just last week, for example) announcing out of the other side of the orifice his intention to proceed with his agenda “with or without Congress” — how can you take this man seriously, where by “seriously” I mean, how can you trust him?” Reveille?

“Immigration legislation will allow big business interests, influential in the GOP, continue to recruit cheap foreign labor. It also provides Democrats with a steady stream of loyal voters. In the last presidential election, Barack Obama enjoyed the solid support of 73% of Hispanic voters. If an immigration deal is reached this year, it will lead to more illegal immigration in the future. This is what happened after 3 million immigrants were given amnesty in 1986. Giving legal status to millions of undocumented workers will clearly displace more Americans from jobs. It will add to the large pool of 102 million Americans who are either unemployed or outside of the labor force.” Time for GOP to Listen to the American People

Low information voters reaping what they sowed by not paying attention. Millennials unhappy with Obama’s war on the young

“Saying that life is hard is kind of like saying the sun is hot, water is wet, or noting that politicians lie a lot. It’s so obvious that anyone who’s paying attention already knows that it’s true. That being said, life’s even harder when you’re working under false assumptions that have been drilled into you by your teachers, college professors, Hollywood, and politicians in D.C. Much of what liberalism drums into the young skulls full of mush simply isn’t true and millions of lives have been ruined by people finding it out the hard way. The good news is that the truth is out there if you’re willing to look for it and not accept the easy answers that make you feel good.” 7 Lies Liberals Tell Young Americans

If they can’t stop this, get ready for sky rocketing electric bills. “McConnell see the EPA carbon rules as a serious threat to the Kentucky economy and he’s ready to do just about anything to stop them. He and 39 other GOP Senators are looking to employ a little used parliamentary manuever to block the EPA rules before they even get started.” McConnell, GOP looking to scotch EPA carbon rules

Isn’t this what always happens when government attempts to fix something? ““I don’t know if we’re growing the number of people with insurance,” a Minnesota-based health insurer told Wilde and Mathews. “We’re just adding complexity.”” Coverage Expansion Fail: Less Than One-Third Of Obamacare Exchange Enrollees Were Previously Uninsured

Competence. “Chris Wallace then asked Kennedy why, if the site is so vulnerable, there haven’t been any hacks against it. That was the question asked by Gary Cohen, the HHS manager overseeing Healthcare.gov, claiming that “there have been no successful attempts of what anyone has been able to attack the system and penetrate it.” Kennedy declared this defense of Healthcare.gov to be “one of my favorites,” and says … how do they know it hasn’t been hacked?” Cyber security expert: Healthcare.gov “much worse off” now

“Because Medicare will eventually pay doctors less than they’re getting for the already low-paying Medicaid, and only about one-third of what they get paid for treating someone with private insurance, seniors will have even more trouble finding hospitals and doctors willing to treat them. As disquieting as that reality is, it will be exacerbated: ObamaCare bars doctors from providing their patients with necessary care for an extra fee. Many will simply fall through the cracks on the road to “better care for everyone,” even as individual seniors bear the painful — or deadly — brunt of this leftist utopian fantasy.” ObamaCare’s Attack on the Elderly

Warnings about the direction we’re headed, from someone who should know. “Now, most American news sources are no different than Pravda and Izvestia. Now, the government used the IRS to stifle political opposition. Now, ObamaCare is a wealth redistribution platform disguised as a common good. Now, Obama is being portrayed in academia and the media alike as a charismatic, messianic, “progressive” figure, fighting for the “underdog.” He would feel right at home as the General Secretary of the Communist Party. Now, Obama Youths are me, from decades ago. Leninist academia has had its way with them. Now, just like Soviet leaders, American leaders give lip-service to “social justice” while stocking up on personal wealth for their families. There’s nothing new under the sun. I’m hardly the only ex-Soviet to point out the parallels. But some things matter enough to bear repeating. Dear beautiful America, please, stop moving Forward.” Forward

Disgusting. “The attacks on Lone Survivor, the movie about 4 Navy Seals caught in an operation gone lethally wrong in Afghanistan, illustrate once again the fossilized orthodoxy of the left. The L.A. Weekly’s Amy Nicholson called the movie a “jingoistic snuff film” that “bleeds blood red, bone-fracture white, and bruise blue” and assumes “brown people bad, American people good.” Similarly, Salon’s Andrew O’Hehir called it a “jingoistic, pornographic work of war propaganda.” Such rhetoric reveals the anti-military, anti-American biases typical of progressives, a form of bigotry as stale as disco king Tony Manero’s white leisure suit.” The Eternal Darkness of the Progressive Mind

Pay attention! And read this and the following article. “Over the next two years the drumbeat of income inequality will be repeated more times than Iron Butterfly’s “In A Gadda Da Vida.” The political aim will be to sway the American voter into believing two things: income inequality in America is immoral, and the Democrats are the only party that can fix it. There is just one problem; it is a fallacy and conservatives better learn the tune if they want to win the next two elections.” Beating the Income Inequality Drum

To understand what the Left is up to in the 2014 election cycle, read the whole thing! “The big fight over extending unemployment insurance is part of this plan to change the subject over the failure of big government in an attempt to fool people into believing that the Democrats actually care about their plight. Here is the truth. They don’t. It is in the left’s political interest for more and more Americans to be economically dependent upon the government. It is in the left’s political interest for fewer and fewer Americans to be paying income taxes, while shifting the burden disproportionately to those who make the most money. For the income inequality argument to win, the public has to believe that America is a haves and have not society with no chance to better yourself beyond your given lot in life.” Obama’s Class Warfare Pivot

This: “I am watching them take my country from me — the Obamas, the de Blasios, the Holders, the generic Democrats with their imaginary sincerity and their simplistic complaints about income inequality. As if excellence and the ability to earn are wicked traits.” And this: “Liberalism dominates by curtailing free thought. It does not allow contradiction. It scorns conservative opinions. It is a bully. The very thing that liberalism pretends to endorse, it hates. It announces its love for mankind while it undermines it. It is a charade. It is false. It is self-destructive. Its poster boy used to be Stalin. Now it is Obama.” Liberalism in Brooklyn

Changing the meaning of words to fool the folks. “Speaking of which, here’s our obligatory Allahpundit-style Exit Question: If “Progressives” dubbed themselves “Liberal” in 1919 to distance themselves from the debacle of an inept heavy-handed leftwing administration run amok, and then ran away from the L-Word after the Carter administration, only to eventually return to the P-Word in time for Obama, what word will they choose to describe themselves in the next few years? In the meantime, as Steve Hayward of Power Line recently asked, “Now That Hillary Clinton Has Dismissed ‘Liberalism’, Can Conservatives Take It Back?”How the L-Word Was Won

It’s one bubble those of us on the conservative side would like to see burst, but I am not so certain. There are just too many low information folks out there. “A recent letter from one fits the formula. After I denounced Obama’s smears of Senate Dems who opposed him on the Iran deal, reader Tom Matyas said I belonged in North Korea or China, and added: “You are apparently among the morons who believe Obama set the IRS on the Tea Party even after it has been debunked by any rational analysis and that the financial stimulus was a waste when actually it was too small, like your intellect . . . Get a life, Bozo.” Desperate “investors” like that mean the Obama bubble is ready to pop.” Enthusiasm on the left is like a bubble about to burst

News and Commentary for January 14

Considering what politicians are doing to our Military pensions, I am scratching my head too.

Considering what politicians are doing to our Military pensions, I am scratching my head too.

I shake my head in true dismay. And frustration. “Incredibly, the House GOP has just agreed that the only group deserving budget punishment in the new spending deal is the career military.  It is an obscene deal, one made worse by a patently cynical attempt to hide the blow to the military by “restoring” cuts to the pensions of wounded veterans.  A vote for this betrayal of the military will haunt every Republican who supports it.” A Terrible “Deal” In Which Only Career Military Are Called Upon To Sacrifice

Calling them out. “3. “That situation might look simple in Washington, where the human rights of terrorists are often given high priority. And I am certain liberal politicians would defend their position to the death. Because everyone knows liberals have never been wrong about anything. You can ask them. Anytime.”” (p. 37) 10 Best ‘Lone Survivor’ Takedowns of Liberal Media

Shame on them. “On every level and from every perspective — from pure national interest to the purely moral — the decision by the Obama administration and the Democratic party to withdraw American troops from Iraq and Afghanistan is indefensible.” The Immorality of Leaving Iraq and Afghanistan

Will it work? Five years ago I’d say “no way” but now I am not so sure. “President Obama has all but announced that this fall’s House and Senate campaigns should focus not on the collapse of American influence abroad, or on the continuing disaster that we know as Obamacare, or even on the apparent inability of his policies to create jobs, but on “income inequality.”” Obama’s drives to stoke class warfare to win midterm elections

“But the excerpts suggest that Gates sees Obama as out of line with the continuity he admires in his predecessors. Clinton’s cynical opposition to the Iraq surge and Obama’s half-hearted commitment to his Afghanistan strategy are in jarring contrast with his description in Shadows of Ford, Carter, Reagan, and Bush I. “For each,” he writes, “the country came first,” and “each, in his own way, was a modest man.” Let’s see if in the full text of Duty he says the same of Obama.” Obama: A New Kind of Commander-in-Chief

Hurting the most vulnerable with more government mandates. “In other words, Eric Holder, sitting in Washington, knows better than the thousands of people who run public schools across the country what kinds of sanctions are necessary to preserve some semblance of order in the classrooms, so that hoodlums do not make the education of their classmates impossible.” Politics Versus Education

Read this and weep. “Despite all the hype of tightening underwriting, CFPB’s celebrated new mortgage rules in fact require no minimum down payment or credit score — the two most important safeguards against default and foreclosure.” New Mortgage Rules Another Empty Obama Promise

Listen up! “But if Christie has gone from GOP frontrunner to possible has-been in the wake of his Bridgegate scandal, Rubio has a chance to start over in 2014. Though it’s unlikely that many anti-immigration die-hards will forgive him for speaking common sense about the issue, Rubio’s address at the Capitol last week on the 50th anniversary of Lyndon Johnson’s “War on Poverty” gave his year a promising beginning. As James Pethokoukis rightly noted at the AEI Ideas blog, his “new anti-poverty plan offers a dramatic, even radical revamp of the American welfare state” that attempts to raise the incomes of the poor without falling into the trap of big government.” Rubio’s Poverty Pitch What the GOP Needs

Equality will make us all equally poor, well with the exception of the elites in government and those connected to them. They won’t be impacted. “The irony is that free people usually create far more wealth than the coerced, which makes the lower echelons better off, a fact that reminds “equality” is usually about empowering progressive elites rather than materially helping the poor. Moreover, in a free society, there are all sorts of forces — religion, constantly improving and ever cheaper technology, family pressures, honor, shame, philanthropy — that redistribute wealth either naturally or through the consent of the giver, and far more effectively than creating a huge government equalocracy that seeks power to bully others and exempt itself.” The Idol of Equality

Consequences. “No one should be thrilled that restaurant workers have to settle for wages of $5 per hour plus tips. But a steady job at that level is better than no job at the $12 base pay ordered by the arbitrator. The casino sought to raise food prices to compensate for the increased costs, but the law of demand applies to consumers as well. In hard times, they won’t stand for the increased prices, so the casino closed a food operation that could only operate at a loss, leaving 175 union members to scramble for jobs.” How Democrats Kill Jobs

Getting government back to the way it was supposed to work is critical. “The Senate exists to prevent that. Because without a moderating institution like the Senate, today’s majority passes something and tomorrow’s majority repeals it; today’s majority proposes something, tomorrow’s majority opposes it. We see that in the House all the time. But when the Senate is allowed to work the way it was designed to, it arrives at a result that’s acceptable to people all along the political spectrum…” Senator Mitch McConnell Shows There is At Least One Adult In The Room

It’s only catching up to him because he’s obstructing a few Democrat-sponsored bills. “The Senate majority leader’s hostility toward amendments is finally catching up to him.” Harry Reid’s Obstructionism

“Second, and much worse, is that President Obama sought the power to decide when the Senate is in session. In this case, President Obama claimed that the Senate’s pro forma session was not a real session under the Constitution, and therefore he could do as he liked. This is not for the president to decide.” The President’s Recess-Appointment Overreach

When the victim is a conservative just sweep it under the rug—nothing to see here. “Here’s a January column opening we could have written early last summer when the broad scale of the Internal Revenue Service’s intimidation of conservative political groups began emerging.” Wouldn’t you know, FBI says it can’t find anything illegal in all that IRS intimidation

“The Journal reports that the Federal Bureau of Investigation is unlikely to file any criminal charges in the targeting of conservative political organizations by the Internal Revenue Service. Yet Cleta Mitchell, an attorney who represents many of the targets, says that the FBI has never contacted any of her clients to discuss their treatment at the hands of the IRS. “Shouldn’t law enforcement talk to the victims in an investigation?,” she asks in an email.” That’s like investigating a burglary without interviewing the burgled,” notes a Journal editorial. The FBI’s IRS Outrage

“Maybe the FBI is right, that it’s just all a big misunderstanding, that IRS officials were only at the White House for Easter Egg rolls. Even so, our Constitution doesn’t leave accountability to the judgment of the FBI. To the contrary, our system holds that the American people, through their elected representatives in Congress, have the right to know what their government is doing. In short, if the threat of criminal charges has in fact been removed, there’s no more excuse for Lois Lerner not to tell us, under oath, what she was apparently afraid to say in May.” The ‘crime’ of the IRS

What state rights? “Demonstrating his disdain for the 10th Amendment and the rule of law, Mr. Holder said Friday the federal government would recognize the marriages of homosexual couples who wed during the two-week period such unions were made legal in Utah by a federal judge.” Obama ignores Constitution by recognizing same-sex marriages in Utah

“The main leverage the IRS will have is the refund “offset.” That simply means if a taxpayer is due a refund, but has also incurred an Obamacare penalty, the penalty will be subtracted from the refund. So a taxpayer who has a $500 refund coming but incurs a $695 Obamacare penalty will receive no refund.” Will IRS bully people to sign up for Obamacare?

“What I don’t understand is this: healthy young people are desired in the exchanges because they pay too much for their insurance, thereby subsidizing older, sicker participants. But the figures released today show that so far, a whopping 79% of all signups are eligible for subsidies. The small minority who do not receive subsidies (21%) are obviously not enough to pay the freight for the 79% who get government money, so it is hard to see how Obamacare can ever add up as a sustainable program. Unless the administration assumes that it will be an endless drain on the federal budget.” Obamacare Numbers Aren’t Adding Up

“Indeed, it looks like ObamaCare will create twice as many losers as winners in 2014. The Congressional Budget Office projects that 16 million will gain coverage via the law’s Medicaid expansion (9 million) and subsidized exchange plans (7 million) — and even that’s rosier than the enrollment figures we’ve seen so far. Thirty million losing insurance; 16 million gaining it. It’ll be hard for Democrats running for election this fall to defend a law that hurts twice as many people as it helps.” Another 25 million ObamaCare victims

“So far, the government is on a losing streak. In 19 of 20 cases, including the Little Sisters’, judges have granted preliminary relief to the non-profits, allowing them to press their claims. The administration should take the hint.” Obamacare overreach tramples Little Sisters: Our view

““When you get into the details of the plans, it’s not all written in Spanish. It’s written in Spanglish, so we end up having to translate it for them,” Adrian Madriz, a Miami-based Obamacare “navigator” frustratedly told the AP. I feel your pain, Adrian. Opponents of the law have been trying to translate the official line for years now — and all we have got to show for our efforts is this lousy, shoddy, embarrassing — and now polyglot — disaster.” The Obama Administration Presents Spanglish.Gov

News and Commentary for January 13

It's Monday. Try and have some fun!

It’s Monday. Try and have some fun!

In case you missed it, here’s a rundown of the events of the Maricopa County GOP annual meeting. Maricopa Country Republican Brief for January 11, 2014

My mother-in –law was denied medical care last week. Seniors should be very, very concerned. Here’s the rundown: I talked to my mother-in-law last night.  She had her first denial of coverage by Medicare as a result of the implementation of Obamacare.  She had been scheduled to have some minor back surgery in December (she is in a lot of pain!). However, it was postponed for a variety of reasons.  It was rescheduled for last week, but when she arrived for the procedure, the doctor told her he could no longer do it because it was no longer approved by Medicare. “Just as America is coming to see few alternatives in Obamacare, Democrats see few alternatives for easily escaping it.” Obamacare: Clearly and Consistently Negative

Not really all that unexpected considering the way this whole thing is going. “Stuffed inside the Obamacare law passed by Democrats (with no Republican votes) is a provision that will reimburse insurance companies up to 80% of their losses due to Obamacare.” Confirmed: Obama Administration to REIMBURSE Insurance Companies Up to 80% on O-Care Losses (Video)

More on the insurance company bail out. “For some reason, President Obama hasn’t talked about this particular feature of his signature legislation.  Indeed, it’s bad enough that Obamacare is projected by the Congressional Budget Office to funnel $1,071,000,000,000.00 (that’s $1.071 trillion) over the next decade (2014 to 2023) from American taxpayers, through Washington, to health insurance companies.  It’s even worse that Obamacare is trying to coerce Americans into buying those same insurers’ product (although there are escape routes).  It’s almost unbelievable that it will also subsidize those same insurers’ losses.” Bailing Out Health Insurers and Helping Obamacare

All this will be hitting in October, just in time to impact the elections in a maximum way. “Over the weekend, it seems as though the national media finally figured out what most ObamaCare critics have predicted all along.  On Friday night, the New York Times covered the mess made by the law’s incompetent implementation with providers and insurers, leaving consumers holding the bag.  By Saturday night, the Washington Post had deduced that this was just the entrée. A much bigger wave of disruption will hit when the employer mandates go into effect for 2015 (via Instapundit).” WaPo: Get ready for the second wave of ObamaCare market disruptions

Scary. I mean, really, really scary. “Indeed, Medicare threatens to break the bank even without the vast expansion that would be required to convert it to a single payer system covering all Americans. The most recent Medicare Trustees report reveals that the program is encumbered by an unfunded liability of $43 trillion. This is the amount by which the program’s promised benefits will exceed the tax revenue available to pay for them. $43 trillion is three times the nation’s GDP. Thus, the Trustees also project that Medicare will become insolvent in 2026.” Single Payer: We’ve Been There, Done That

Despicable. Sorry to keep posting articles on this topic, but we need to spread the word about how the Democrats played and will continue to play politics with our sons and daughters in the military. “More than three-fourths of the names on some future Afghanistan memorial wall will be those of American soldiers who died under a commander-in-chief contemptuous of the military, whose foreign policy was (to use Bret Stephens’ expression in this incisive video on the Gates book) “the conduct of politics by other means” – a chilling fact now underlined by a former secretary of defense’s book.” A Tale of Two Surges

The shocking part is that these are just the rules and regs published in 2013! Introducing the 2013 Federal Register: Last year’s 80,000 pages worth of **job-creating rules & regs

Depression. “The neo-Keynesian, demand-side mindset of Chairman Yellen and the rest of the FOMC does not allow them to see or accept that low rates are actually hurting employment, credit, and capital formation. Investors must be paid to take risk. The declining leverage within the US banking system, which was discussed in a Zero Hedge post about Q4 2013 bank earnings (“Are Large Cap Banks Ready to ‘Break Out?’”), is a red flag that Congress ought to be discussing with Chairman Yellen on a weekly basis. Meanwhile moral hazard grows under QE, and Fed-induced bubbles proliferate in the equity and debt markets.” Washington & Wall Street: Janet Yellen’s FOMC Puts U.S. on Path to Deflation

We’re heading in the wrong direction. “Baker, Co-Director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research, told PBS’s Judy Woodruff Friday that contrary to those who spin the falling labor force participation rate as mainly coming from retiring Baby Boomers, young workers are dropping out by the millions. “…it is easy to see the big falloff in labor force participation is among prime age workers, 25-to-54-years-olds. That is down by four full percentage points. That is equivalent to five million people in their prime ages. They are not retiring at age 50.” The White House fed black media the news that black unemployment was down five points from its 2010 high of 16.9% but did not say that this was largely the result of more African-Americans giving up on finding jobs in the Obama economy.” Black Labor Force Participation Rate Under Obama Hits Rock Bottom – Lowest Level Ever Recorded

It’s only a scandal if the press wants it to be one and because Governor Christie has an “R” after his name, this is one of those times. “Scandals are not just about themselves; they are about the media atmosphere that surrounds them. They are perpetuated and deepened by the attention of journalists, whose relentless pursuit of every angle keeps the story going. That is exactly what has been missing from the IRS scandal from its outset; Republicans in Congress have been the dogged pursuers, not the press.” Bridgegate obsession clinically explained

Just a reminder. “The list reads like an AM radio golden oldies countdown: Travelgate, the magical and mysterious Rose Law Firm billing records that showed up in a closet in the White House years after being subpoenaed, Whitewater, Bimbogate, and the vast right-wing conspiracy that unzipped her husband’s pants and forced him to have oral sex with Monica Lewinsky.” Dems Pile on Christie While Ignoring Hillary’s Past

Tough words to hear, but maybe we need to hear them? This: “Republicans “live in a bubble,” former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum told the Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Policy Orientation for the Texas Legislature Thursday, and are detached from the pop culture and concerns of the average Americans whose allegiance they need to prevail nationally. “We live in a bubble. We don’t realize what’s going on,” said the once and perhaps future presidential candidate who is now head of a movie studio based in Flower Mound that produces Christian entertainment. “How many of you watch prime time network television? I suspect none of you.”” And this: “Santorum said the American revolutionaries prevailed against the odds, because they wanted it more, reciting the final words of the Declaration of Independence – “we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.” In America today, he said, it is the left that wants it more.”” Rick Santorum warns fellow Republicans: ‘We live in a bubble’

I am thinking about our Republican candidates in CD9. Who is working the hardest (Vernon Parker, Wendy Rodgers or Andrew Walter)? Do we know? “It’s already 2014, if your candidate hasn’t already got a campaign committee, six figures of campaign money in a campaign account at the bank, and at least a dozen supporters other than committee members who are ready to start putting in 20+ hours per week on campaign grunt work as of this minute, then your candidate has already lost. So move on to the next best choice. And if that candidate also has already lost, move on again. Repeat until you’ve found the best candidate that can win. Volunteer for that candidate. Work hard starting Day One. You’ve got less than 11 months on the election calendar left. Time’s running out. Stop talking and get busy.” Advice to Unhappy Republicans

But first they have to want to hear what we have to say! “Conservatives can offer real solutions to young Americans.” Millennials Are Tiring of Liberal Failures

How does this man manage to keep getting elected? “Gates says that Harry Reid once urged him to have the Defense Department “invest in research on irritable bowel syndrome.”” The trouble with Harry?

Put this on your radar, it’s taking place today. “Tomorrow at 10 a.m., the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on the case of National Labor Relations Board v. Noel Canning. It is a very important case, which is why the court is allowing 90 minutes of oral argument instead of the usual sixty. You can find the legal background here on the indispensable www.scotusblog.com, which will be live-blogging the argument tomorrow morning.” High Drama at the Court Tomorrow

Keeping score. “For Hillary, whose loss was of course not the end of her political career, the spreadsheet was a necessity of modern political warfare, an improvement on what old-school politicians called a “favor file.” It meant that when asks rolled in, she and Bill would have at their fingertips all the information needed to make a quick decision—including extenuating, mitigating and amplifying factors—so that friends could be rewarded and enemies punished.” Hillary’s Hit List

It exists but the Democrats want to keep the fact under wraps, so they can keep winning elections. “DOI undercover agents showed up at 63 polling places last fall and pretended to be voters who should have been turned away by election officials; the agents assumed the names of individuals who had died or moved out of town, or who were sitting in jail. In 61 instances, or 97 percent of the time, the testers were allowed to vote. Those who did vote cast only a write-in vote for a “John Test” so as to not affect the outcome of any contest.” Voter Fraud: We’ve Got Proof It’s Easy

News and Commentary for January 11 and 12

It's Sunday! Enjoy your day.

It’s Sunday! Enjoy your day.

Stay focused my friends. “Zero upside to conservatism in throwing rocks at a contrite and yet focused GOP governor.  Time to keep focus instead on the revelations in Secretary Gates’ memoir and on the O-care rolling fiasco.  If the governor gets caught up in a serious misstatement or a new shocker, that will be the end of that, but he came out of this crisis bloodied but with quite a lot of points in his favor for the sort of straightforward non-talking point candor that the public is very hungry for.” Mark Steyn On Chris Christie, And How Conservatives Generally Should Respond To The “Longest Day” Presser

A good walk down memory lane to remind you of all the stories the mainstream media and the Left wants you to foget! “Whatever happened in New Jersey under Governor Chris Christie in regards to the already-infamous “bridgegate,” the open gloating by the media over the unacceptable behavior of the Republican governor’s staffers is extremely revealing.” 24 Underreported Democrat Scandals That Make News Media’s ‘Bridgegate Mania’ Look Like a Joke

Add this to the list provided above… and now we have 25 underreported Democrat scandals. “It is ironic that just as Washington, D.C. and New York City–the two centers of cluelessness in American life–are convulsed with a mini-scandal involving lane closure on a bridge, two more major Obama administration scandals have come to light. The first is Obama’s nomination of Debo Adegbile to head the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. We might have guessed that Obama couldn’t do worse than Adegbile’s predecessor, Tom Perez, but we would have been wrong.” For Real Scandals, Check Out the Obama Administration

It’s going to get really ugly for ANY Republican presidential candidate. We have to be ready. “It’s not about Christie, it’s about how other Republican candidates will be treated by the media.” To defend Chris Christie

Their true colors are showing (emphasis mine). “The only difficulty was, the solution — finding billions to pay for the restored pensions and unemployment insurance — involved cracking down on a tax credit program in which illegal immigrants have fraudulently collected billions of dollars in improper payments. Stop the fraud, Ayotte argued, and then use the money saved to pay for pensions and unemployment insurance. It seemed like an elegant solution. Except that Democrats would have none of it. Putting an end to the fraudulent collection of tax credits by illegal immigrants would hurt the most vulnerable, they argued. “This idea of going after children is one of the worst ideas I have ever heard,” Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer said in floor debate Thursday. “I am shocked — I am shocked. You’re going to hurt children. You’re going to take away food out of their mouths.”” What if you could restore veterans’ pensions, fund jobless benefits and stop illegal immigrant fraud, all at once? Democrats would block it

Really bad. “Today’s jobs numbers were bad, but they are even worse when viewed in the context of the comprehensive failure of the Obama administration’s economic policies over the past five years.” More On Today’s Awful Jobs Numbers

“The labor participation rate is the now lowest since the days of Jimmy Carter.” The Jobs Report

Make sure to point this out when you are arguing with a Democrat. “I have mentioned in the past the most commonly reported unemployment rate – which now stands at 6.7 percent — is a very imperfect measure of the health of the labor market. It’s the number of people without jobs who are available to work and are actively seeking work in the four weeks preceding the survey as a percentage of the labor force (the sum of people in the economy who have a job or want one), but it doesn’t tell you anything about the people who have given up looking for work and the people who are employed but only on a part-time basis (i.e., underemployed).” The Broader Measure Of Unemployment: 13.1 Percent

More facts to arm yourself with when talking with a Democrat. “So, for some badly needed perspective, we’ve created Obama’s Jobs Index to show how Obama’s policies have failed to create adequate job growth.” How Bad Is Obama’s Jobs Record? Let’s Count The Ways

He needs to change course, but like a good Leftist, he won’t. Because he would then have to admit that everything a good Leftist believes in doesn’t work in the real world. “Like bloodwork results for a weak, wheezing patient, Friday’s jobs report confirmed that deeply serious ills plague the U.S. economy.” Obama’s growing pains

More on how a course correction won’t be coming any time soon. “These terrible numbers help to explain the president’s recent attempt to change the subject from the economy to “income inequality,” an abstraction that fails to register with most Americans. They also help to explain why Obama intends to push for an increase in the federal minimum wage, currently $7.25 an hour, in his State of the Union address on Jan. 28. Left-wingers have successfully been changing the subject, moving the discussion away from their policy failures for 50 years now. Why should they change a winning formula now? They know they can continue to count on taxpayer funding for their adventures in leftist activism.” The War on Poverty’s Biggest Casualties

Failure. “This is rapidly approaching a pre-revolutionary condition, but not for a revolution many of us would want to undergo.  To avoid it, a massive change must occur at the federal level.  But Barack Obama, mired in a dead ideology, doesn’t seem prepared to do anything but prolong the situation with highly  conventional liberal solutions that have failed for decades, maybe even centuries.” Who Needs Ayn Rand? America Has Already Gone John Galt

Have you heard the one about the Feds handing over an entire city to an Indian tribe? Couldn’t happen here, right? Think again… “One day they were Wyomingans, the next they were members of the Wind River tribes — after the Environmental Protection Agency declared the town part of the Wind River Indian Reservation, undoing a 1905 law passed by Congress and angering state officials.” EPA overrides Congress, hands over town to Indian tribes

I was a member of Sierra Club for years. I am ashamed. “The EPA has repeatedly said the regulations on coal-fired power plants will not be a death blow to the industry. However, the agency was working closely behind the scenes with the Sierra Club, an environmental organization that was pushing the agency to adopt standards that would be impossible for power plants to meet.” Sierra Club Pressed EPA to Create Impossible Coal Standards

Forcing us all to bow to the alter of Statism. “It is establishing the faith of secular statism, a religion currently characterized by the tenets of radical progressivism. Statism is rapidly becoming the only faith in America allowed to operate with complete freedom.” Establishing a U.S. State Religion

Unfortunately this story is being pushed aside for the ever so more important “Bridgegate.” “Still battered at home by the ObamaCare debacle and the permanently sluggish economy, the last thing the White House wanted was bad news on foreign policy. But that’s exactly what it got, and then some, thanks to the shockingly scathing book by Robert Gates.” Gates memoir reveals Obama’s incompetence on foreign policy

More on the pushed aside story. “What Bob Gates tells us in his book — including that Hillary Clinton opposed President Bush’s surge on political grounds, and that Vice President Joe Biden is usually wrong — isn’t exactly news, but it is damning and important all the same.” Obama’s Half-Hearted War

It won’t be reported because it doesn’t fit the media’s “war” narrative. “It’s not as politically advantageous for the left to admit this, so you won’t see stories of gratitude like the one told by Iraq War vet and amputee J.R. Salzmann about a chance encounter with a cab driver in Texas.” The Media Would Never Report This Amazing Exchange Between Wounded Vet And Iraqi Cab Driver

They have to report this, but I am sure it pains them greatly. “The Associated Press first reported this developing and completely predictable problem earlier in the week. What happens when you pass a law that (a) causes the health-insurance cancellation for millions and then (b) forces them and millions more to use a disastrously-built web portal as a middeman to replace that coverage? Answer: You end up with millions of people flooding into providers without any idea whether they have coverage or whether their doctor will accept it. The New York Times confirmed this issue … for its Saturday edition, of course.” NYT: Yeah, ObamaCare has made the healthcare system a mess in 2014

This: “The administration delivered a resounding judgment on its claim that Obamacare’s website problems were over by firing the prime contractor, CGI Federal. The Washington Post, reporting the contract cancellation, explains that  ”as federal officials and contractors have been trying to fix various aspects of the Web site in the past few months, about half of the new software code the company has written has failed on the first try, according to internal federal information.” And this: That will fix things, won’t it?  It will not. As I have written before, the problem is in the complexity of  the business rules;  in the actuarial characteristics of the system;  in the lack of money to fund a system that is more expensive than the one it replaces. But the idea is that if we transform a complex problem into other complex problems of the same degree then we have simplified things. Good luck on that.” The Curse of Complexity

Are there ANY freedom loving Liberals anymore? “Ever wonder how it is that so many self-proclaimed liberals and “progressives” don’t seem to care about preserving liberty? Especially in the last decade or so, as the liberal wing of the Democratic Party has moved ever leftward and the assaults on liberty have cascaded, liberals seem more and more to divide into two camps: those who retain some love of liberty and those who do not.” The great dividing line: love of liberty

Collusion between the Left and Right, to steal your freedom. “What do George Soros, labor unions and money-grubbing former GOP Rep. Steven LaTourette all have in common? They’re control freaks. They’re power hounds. They’re united against tea party conservatives. And they all have operated under the umbrella of D.C. groups masquerading as “Main Street” Republicans.” Beware the Left-Wing-Funded “Main Street” Republicans

Collusion Part 2. “The Chamber of Commerce, the liberal Main Street Partnership and the campaign arms of the Republican Leaders are targeting small government, free marketers for defeat. Conservative, tea party-affiliated candidates risk dismantling the Washington status quo. That puts lobbyist income in jeopardy. A Republican Party that confuses supporting big business with supporting the free market wants to silence the voices of those who are not confused.” House Cleaning on the Right

I think we need to realize that government can’t solve all society’s ills. “Good government inevitably becomes big government.” Compassionate Conservatives Are Confusing A Slogan With An Agenda

Have we already lost the war? “Empty those pocketbooks! A new Gallup poll is showing that liberalism is on the rise; shrinking the conservative advantage to only 15 percentage points for the first time since 1992.” Uprising: More and More Democrats Identifying as Liberals

News and Commentary for January 10

When you read the news today, maybe this is how you'll feel.

When you read the news today, maybe this is how you’ll feel.

Wrong direction. “The worst news comes in the workforce numbers. Those not in the workforce increased by 525,000 in December (91.808 million), after a one-time drop in the figure for November (91.283M from 91.756M in October).  That’s a big exodus of people from the workforce, dwarfing the meager number of jobs added in the economy. Part-time work remained essentially constant at 7.8 million, so the exodus points to an ugly, ugly trend.” December jobs report: Only 74,000 added, “not in workforce” jumps 525,000

We’ve known this for many years. Only Republicans must stand accountable. Democrats, not so much. “Now that we have your attention, allow us to explain. Governor Chris Christie apologized to New Jersey on Thursday for aides who closed traffic lanes in order to punish a Democratic mayor, and he fired a deputy chief of staff. We mention the IRS because Mr. Christie’s contrition contrasts so sharply with President Obama’s handling of the tax agency’s abuse of political opponents and his reluctance to fire anyone other than a military general for anything.” Christie and the IRS

Proof but then we really didn’t need any! “The Big Three networks, in a frenzy over New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie‘s traffic headache dubbed “Bridgegate,” have devoted a whopping 34 minutes and 28 seconds of coverage to the affair in just the last 24 hours. By comparison, that’s 17 times the two minutes, eight seconds devoted to President Obama‘s IRS scandal in the last six months, according to an analysis by the Media Research Center.” Nets give ‘Bridgegate’ 17 times more coverage in 1 day than IRS scandal in 6 months

“Here’s a problem. Policy people are policy people—sometimes creative, almost always sober, grounded, mature. But political operatives get high on winning. They start to think nothing can touch them when they’re with a winner. They get full of themselves. And they think only winning counts, because winning is their job.” Noonan: How Christie Ended Up in This Jam

From the comments: “Is this nut buddy (DWS) serious? Shutting down part of a highway is more serious than an ambassador being murdered by terrorists? Than border patrol agents being murdered with guns provided by the Department of Justice? Than making extralegal changes in the national healthcare law??? My God, this woman is a pathological liar or is truly insane.” CNN Host Grills Wasserman Schultz About Thinking Christie’s Hiding Something While Obama Always Claims to Be in the Dark

He probably is, unfortunately. “Now, they may have something else in common. Heading into the 2016 presidential race, where a lot of smart analysts have said the GOP should nominate a governor, Democrats may be hoping to use scandals to strangle these Republicans babies in their crib.” Is Scott Walker next?!

Why only 16? “The 16 GOP congressman argued that pushing for a “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” package, whether it be in one bill or in a series of piecemeal or step-by-step bills, is essentially crony capitalism that would disproportionately harm the black and Hispanic communities in America.” 16 House Republicans to Obama: Amnesty ‘Final Economic Blow’ for American Workers

Why bother then? “The only problem with that argument, of course, is that this “promise zone” initiative actually doesn’t address economic mobility in any real, lasting, or widespread way. The Obama administration is once again using the federal government as a tool to select winners and losers, using more bureaucracy — via the Departments of Education, Housing and Urban Development, Justice, Health and Human Services, Agriculture, and Commerce, good grief — to create top-down faux-collaboration that bypasses the states and in which the feds will decide upon “targeted investments” that they should not be making in the first place with “free money” we do not have.” Meet the White House’s next awesome economic pivot: “Promise zones”

Definitely unbelievable. “Choosing someone so openly and obviously partisan to lead an investigation into partisan targeting of opposition groups is “unbelievable” and “highly inappropriate,” Rep. Issa asserts, and demands of the Attorney General immediate action to both remove Bosserman from leading the investigation and remedy any damage that may have occurred due to her involvement.” Obama Donor to Head IRS Tea Party Targeting Investigation

Oh goody! Crony capitalism PLUS an invasion of privacy. “The Common Core gold rush is on. Apple, Pearson, Google, Microsoft and Amplify are all cashing in on the federal standards/testing/textbook racket. But the EduTech boondoggle is no boon for students. It’s more squandered tax dollars down the public school drain. Even more worrisome: The stampede is widening a dangerous path toward invasive data mining.” Common Core and the EduTech Abyss

A statistic that should outrage us all, especially when you consider what we’re learning from Secretary of State Robert Gates in his soon to be released book Duty. 74% of U.S. Afghan Casualties Came After Obama Ordered Troops Increased

The fact that more in the media are more outraged by Governor Chris Christie’s Bridgegate tells you everything you need to know about where their true loyalties lie. “These are an extraordinary series of revelations. The commander in chief (a) sent troops to fight and die in a war (Afghanistan) he wasn’t committed to and in whose strategy he had no confidence in; and (b) as a senator opposed for partisan reasons a counterinsurgency strategy that turned a war we were losing (Iraq) into one we were winning. Losing a war is among the worst things that can happen to a nation. Yet we have as president a man who was willing to have America lose in Iraq in order to advance his own political ambitions. And a man, by the way, who constantly chastises Republicans for putting politics above country while portraying himself as the one true patriot.” Our Contemptible Commander in Chief

Not good. “Obama touts his drone policy against al-Qaida as having killed numerous al-Qaida operatives and foiled lots of al-Qaida plots. But it hasn’t stopped them from steadily pursuing their key objective: taking over countries.” Bin Laden May Be Dead, But Al-Qaida Is Ascendant

Democrat’s priorities are showing. “Even if, like me, you are beyond being shocked by anything the Democrats do, this is remarkable. For the second time, Harry Reid and his Senate Democrat cohorts have refused to allow an amendment to revise the Ryan-Murray spending deal to be voted on. The amendment would restore the cuts in veterans’ benefits that are part of the deal, and instead raise the money by closing a loophole that makes it easy for illegal aliens to defraud the federal government out of billions of dollars. It seems like a pretty easy choice: keeping our promises to veterans, versus enabling fraud by illegal immigrants. But the Democrats have again chosen, not just to prioritize illegal immigrants over veterans, but to prioritize fraud by illegal aliens over maintaining existing veterans’ benefits. You almost have to see it to believe it.” Once Again, Democrats Vote to Cut Veterans’ Benefits in Order to Enable Fraud By Illegal Aliens

“In 2008, authors David Horowitz and Ben Johnson released their book, “Party of Defeat.” It chronicled the Democratic Party’s duplicitous efforts regarding its initial support for the Bush administration’s prosecution of the war in Iraq, followed by their attempts to undermine it — for nothing more than crass political considerations. In a his new book, “Duty: Memoirs of a Secretary at War,” former defense secretary Robert M. Gates, who served in both the Bush and Obama administrations, delivers a devastating confirmation of Horowitz’s and Johnson’s arguments.” Robert Gates Confirms ‘Party of Defeat’ Narrative

Interesting article. “Many of today’s fiercest political debates can be traced to the aspirations of the Great Society, the domestic programs it spawned during the 1960s, and the doubts it raised about the role and reach of Washington.” ‘Great Society’ agenda led to great — and lasting — philosophical divide

The Left will try to destroy him too. “Confession time: I knew very little about Rep. Turner. Look him up and you’ll quickly learn that he spent 8 years as a defensive back in the NFL, playing for the Washington Redskins, the San Diego Chargers and the Denver Broncos. He’s also a motivational speaker and relative newcomer to the Texas legislature. But enough preamble. Here is the keynote that Rep. Turner delivered Wednesday. I don’t think anyone was missing Coach Ditka. Texas Republicans have a rising conservative star on their hands.” MUST-SEE VIDEO: Meet Scott Turner, the Former NFL Defensive Back Who Tackles Today’s Entitlement Mentality

They can never tell us the truth, because most people are freedom loving, and the Left hates freedom. “This move toward socialism by stealth will always de-legitimize the goals of the Left. Worse, it will de-legitimize government itself, even as it poisons the well of our political life.” The Left’s Necessary Lie

The folks on the Left know better, and never forget it! “That last paragraph gives the reader the full flavor of Cohn’s agenda and assumptions, as well as his style. Americans “perhaps unwittingly” chose “market forces.” Those stupid Americans again, who don’t know what they’re doing. Of course, Cohn ignores the fact that Americans never actually chose Obamacare at all. It was never popular, and was passed through devious and Byzantine means. And “market forces”? Obamacare is so far from being an insurance system based on market forces that Cohn’s statement is quite simply ludicrous. He knows better, but he’s hoping we ignorant “unwitting” folk don’t.” You Only Thought You Wanted to Keep Your Hospital

Hang in there! We will take back the Senate and retain the House in November. We just have to work hard.

Hang in there! We WILL take back the Senate and retain the House in November. We just have to be ready to work really, really hard.

Paula Linker passed this along. Memorize these numbers. “At the start of a new year, a look back at the legacy Obama has already left behind.” Obama’s New Year Numbers

Group think. “But the people at the helm of Rolling Stone cannot seemingly even acknowledge that anyone who might disagree with them on, say, the effects of minimum wage laws on the poor, is worth a second thought. All they can do, out of a sense of liberal guilt, is publish radical calls to arm that they must know are ridiculous. Sadly, a magazine that was once required reading for anyone who wanted to know what the younger generation cared about is now a pedantic, insecure, and ultimately ineffective tool of Democratic Party groupthink.” Rolling Stone’s Sad “5 Economic Reforms Millennials Should Be Fighting For”

Sadly, voter suppression works. “After 14 months, one Pittsburgh businessman still wonders: If everyone like him had voted in 2012, how differently might 2013 have turned out? The lifelong Democrat, who runs a five-man machine shop, regrets not voting for president in 2012.” Democrats Continue Class Warfare Rhetoric

It happens every time I try to have an intelligent conversation with a Democrat. “On New Year’s Day, Kyle Becker, writing at Independent Journal Review, published the amusing but true list of eight things liberals do to avoid having an honest debate.” Not having an honest debate with a liberal

Everyone’s blood should be boiling over this. “The war was won when Obama came into office; al Qaeda was completely decimated. The Anbar Sunnis, who are now under attack, had had turned against al Qaeda, joined the infidel — us — in defeating al Qaeda. And al-Maliki had taken all the extremists Shiites in Basra and all the way up into Baghdad as a demonstration of how he is a nationalist and not just a sectarian. All of this happening, what we needed was an agreement and a presence. Obama liquidated it and as a result he has created a vacuum in which Iran has come in, al Qaeda is strong. Not only now in Iraq, but also in Syria and it is a catastrophe.” Krauthammer: Obama Ended The War In Iraq In A Way That “Liquidated” Our Gains

More information to make your blood boil. “Krauthammer also pointed out that three out of four Americans killed in the war have been while President Obama has been in office as a sign of the administration’s detrimental approach to Afghanistan.” Krauthammer’s Take: Obama ‘Essentially Abandoned’ Afghanistan as War Was Going On

Don’t let this be swept under the rug. “Nitpicking over which jihadists did what lets the Obama administration evade the real questions.” Down the Times’ Bengahzi Rabbit Hole

Another reason why we do not want comprehensive immigration, especially with the Obama administration in power. “While this administration’s lawlessness has been most widely noticed in President Obama’s implementation of Obamacare, it applies to areas far beyond health care.” The ICE Shell Game

Silencing dissent. “A government that creates the climate for bullying is the worst of the bullies.” Coercing Conformity

It MUST NOT be too late. “Government — especially the federal government — fails wretchedly, but the impact of that failure, until now at least, has been hidden from the vast majority of ordinary Americans.  That’s about to change.  When it does, there will be nowhere for federal politicians to hide.  When it does, we may see a true revolution in the political affairs of our nation. Let us hope that it’s not too late.” Showing How Government Fails

Will the low information voter wake up in time to help stop this? “It seems likely that by fall the public, despite the press’s best efforts to cover up and obfuscate what’s really happening, will figure out that two or more of these five myths are utter fictions. This will make congressional and senatorial elections especially dangerous endeavors for Democrats and leftists throughout the land. Just how dangerous depends on how aggressively the president’s opponents work to expose the truth and overcome their annoying go-along, get-along tendencies.” 5 Myths Propping Up the Obama Presidency

From the comments: the media has decided that the debt is a non-issue, at least until a Republican is back in the White House. “On the contrary: a new report by the International Monetary Fund concludes that the debt crisis is worse than ever, not just in the U.S. but throughout the developed world” IMF Says: By the Way, There’s a Debt Crisis

File this away for future reference. “Members of both parties will have to act soon — or risk national bankruptcy and fiscal collapse.” 11 Nasty Trends That Will Test America’s Resilience

If you intended to visit New York City while it’s still safe, you had better go soon. “’Let him have his way in New York City and let people see what happens,” will said. “I give him three years and people will be begging for a return to something else.’” Will’s Take: Here’s Hoping De Blasio Represents a Resurgence of Liberalism

When will Democrats wake up to what their party has become? “Bill de Blasio is not the only “red” coming to power in New York City. He will also be joined by a “progressive” majority City Council. Here is a samplying of three of those he will be working with.” NYC Painted Red

Tell me who’s the party of Big Business again? “Republicans can end Obamacare by stopping the impending bailout of insurance companies.” Stop the Bailout — Now

Closer to the truth. “Obamacare mostly solved a quite different problem: the fact that health insurance and health care are expensive. It probably isn’t going to lower costs, or dramatically alter mortality rates, or turn obese diabetics into marathoners. On the other hand, it probably will improve the financial stability of a lot of low-income households, while raising costs (and taxes) on the more affluent. As Finkelstein said to me: For an economist, insurance is a financial product, health insurance as much as life or auto insurance. Auto insurance probably doesn’t improve your driving much, but it does protect your assets if you’re in an accident. It may not be what we expected Obamacare to do … but it’s probably what we should have expected.” Another Problem Obamacare Won’t Solve: Health Costs

They might be able to sully the “Tea Party” brand, but they cannot destroy the foundational truth that the movement stands for. From the comments: “For a couple seconds it burned me that the TP image had been so sullied by the lies of the media and political opposition, but that immediately cooled. I remembered my own oft-repeated observation that the “Tea Party” is not the aggregate of TP orgs across the nation, many of which have already been co-opted and turned by infiltrating politicos. The “Tea Party” is a set of ideas, familiar to us all, that has risen spontaneously over the past decade or two, brought to a fever point by the horrifics of the early Obama administration, particularly the passage of Obamacare (and as much for the manner in which it was passed as for its actual content). I realized it doesn’t matter what so-called low info voters believe about the Tea Party, my friend included, because the ideas upon which it is based remain unsullied, popular, and growing.” Could 2014 be the “Year of the Tea Party Democrat”?

News and Commentary for January 1

Happy New Year!!!  Let’s hope that the 2014 election season puts an end to Progressive rule in our country. We will paint the country red AGAIN! We will take back the Senate, and we will keep the House! Let’s work hard to make it all happen.

Paint the country red!

I ordered the book and hope to have it on my door step later today! “Want to be happy? “It is all about the giving,” nationally syndicated radio talk-show host Hugh Hewitt contends in his new book, The Happiest Life: Seven Gifts, Seven Givers, and the Secret to Genuine Success, “that which you have received from God and that which you give in his name.” “And if you have forgotten that,” Hewitt writes, “recall it. If you have failed, start again. If you are happy, be thankful. And if you aren’t, you can be.”” Living the Happiest Life

The Left’s play book for 2014, exposed! Let’s help get the word out! “In 2014, White House allies say Obama must focus on five things to keep both chambers from turning red.” Five things Obama must do to avoid lame-duck status

Pray! “A new year now begins. Let us hope the collapse of the administration’s agenda brings just enough pain to teach a new generation the benefits of small government, free markets and the American way. Let us hope Obama’s well-deserved and self-constructed humiliation is evident enough to remind his once-worshipful followers to put not their trust in princes. Let us hope that the right can avoid the circular firing squad and make inroads in both houses at the midterm election. Let us hope we can begin to turn the big ship of this great state around.” New Year’s Wishes and Resolutions

I REFUSE to be a subject. “In our two-party system, everything depends on whether the Republicans step up to the plate and act like responsible adults who understand that Obamacare represents a historic crossroads that will determine what kind of people we are going to be, for this generation and generations yet unborn — citizens or subjects.” A New Year and Old Problems

We will prevail. “This year we will see if America is still a center-right country, or if Obama’s two terms will mark a historic shift to the left. History and recent events give cause for optimism, subject, of course, to unforeseen events.” 2014: Year of Decision

A free people losing their freedom. “Is this the kind of stuff a free people should put up with? What kind of twisted mind comes up with language and policies that college-educated and otherwise successful people can’t understand? Even some people at the IRS have been notoriously unhelpful in answering questions about this foreign language known as the U.S. tax code, but if taxpayers get something wrong, they must still pay for their mistakes with a penalty and interest.” Vote like the government has its hand in your pocket, because it does

If more people knew this, I don’t think they’d be in love with bigger government. “Government produces nothing. It creates no wealth. Yet the District of Columbia is ranked as the richest area in the nation. Politicians and bureaucrats shriek that business people are “greedy.” But facts show differently. Imagine voting yourself a raise and millions of dollars in allowances. Imagine 5-figure bonuses. Lifetime pensions to which you contribute only 1.3%. Imagine opening 3 or 4 offices around the state for which you pay not a dime.” The Trillion-Plus Heist

America falls Leftward as the rest of the world wakes up to the perils of Leftism. “The rule of the radical left in the United States is very much an outlier in the rest of the First World where conservative and center-right parties predominate. The conventional First World response to the economic crisis has been to cut spending and reform welfare, while the United States has spent more money than ever before and expanded welfare.” A Left-Wing America Stands Alone

Good bye to 2013 and may 2014 bring an end to America’s slide toward socialism! “2013 was the year the Progressive’s raised their flag, the year they truly revealed themselves and their agenda on the national scale and made it known that everything was subordinate to the greater good. In lying to the country, and in violating Constitutional rights, the Progressives revealed themselves willing to do whatever it takes to move forward their agenda in support of the greater good. 2014 is where they will seek to press the advance, and attempt to stave off the Tea Party counter attack that will inevitably come.” 2013: The year of the Progressive

Stop the statists! “But even as light bulbs vanish and our health-care system descends into catastrophe, understand these as proof that liberalism does not belong in the universe as it exists. And with that we enter 2014, a year of complexity. The same as all those that came before it.” The Progressive Agenda Crashes into Complexity

“Nowhere on that list is there authority for Congress to tax and spend for: Medicare, Social Security, public education, farm subsidies, bank and business bailouts, food stamps and thousands of other activities that account for roughly two-thirds of the federal budget. Neither is there authority for congressional mandates to citizens about what type of health insurance they must purchase, how states and people may use their land, the speed at which they can drive, whether a library has wheelchair ramps, and the gallons of water used per toilet flush.” Limited Government Solves Constitutional Violations

Hiding the fall. “After a year of seeing President Obama’s approval ratings plummet, the president’s pollster is offering a strikingly candid and pessimistic New Year’s resolution. Reporters should go the next “year without reporting any public polling data,” Joel Benenson, president.” Obama pollster: Reporters should stop covering polls in 2014

Don’t hold your breath. “Maybe someday an honest journalist or writer will give us the complete story about Barack Hussein Obama and his (charitably) improbable rise to political power — but he or she will have to weather not only all the roadblocks the Obama team has thrown up to those pursuing the president’s full background (for FactCheck’s rather narrow definition of “sealed records,” go here), but also the ire of the Axelrod generation of journalists who control what’s left of the large institutions and aren’t about to stand by quietly while any debunking or revisionism takes place. The Obama administration is the Boomers’ nirvana, so they will not go gentle into that good night.” The Enigma of Barack Obama

The press as Obama lobbyists. “At a time when Mr. Obama is increasingly engaged in extraconstitutional and unconstitutional behavior, a free press performing the function envisioned for it by the Framers is more necessary than ever. In its absence, there’s every reason to think that not only will the mainstream media be poodled, but the country will go to the dogs.” GAFFNEY: When the press is a poodle

Can we stop the Liberals from abandoning their Blue states for Red states please? “The left has long sought to nationalize government, which means a subordination of the states. In the meantime, liberals aren’t blind to the advantages red states enjoy over blue states, in terms of siphoning off blue states’ productive citizens and enterprises. Liberals see where many businesses choose to relocate. They appreciate that red states are often more affordable to Americans.” Red versus Blue States: A Divide Worth Having

The Left can’t tell the truth about ANY of their policies. “The Obama administration tried to edit a report on new coal regulations to lower analysts’ estimates of serious job losses, an official investigation has found, backing up reports that the Interior Department pressured a private contractor to change information in order to make the data more acceptable.” Report confirms government effort to alter coal job loss estimates

Pandering. “The Democrats aren’t mistaken to think they can trick the Republicans to force them to defend economic positions that are fiscally wise but unpopular, such as opposing the minimum wage increase or not extending unemployment benefits. Their mistake lies in misunderstanding the far-reaching impact of the president’s signature health-care plan will have on vast numbers of voters.” Minimum Wage Won’t Save Dems in 2014

More on Obama pandering. “Here’s some free counsel to Messrs. Israel and Pfeiffer: When the history of the 2014 mid-term elections is written, the Affordable Care Act will be a dominant, and maybe the dominant, issue while the minimum wage will not merit even an asterisk. The latter is hardly a topic that is on the hearts and minds of the American people. You can find here and here recent polls from the Gallup organization listing the top concerns of the American people. The minimum wage doesn’t show up; and, in fact, more people are concerned with America becoming a socialist country than are concerned that the minimum wage is too low.” Can Midnight Basketball Be Far Behind?

The minimum wage and the war on the poor. “Both the Obama administration and the Democratic leadership in Congress have announced that their top priority when Congress returns later this month will be extending unemployment benefits and raising the minimum wage. Both policies are likely to leave more Americans jobless — especially low-income workers with few skills, the very people Democrats claim they want to help most.” Obama’s 2014 War on the Poor

Posted previously, but a good reminder! “In essence, President Obama seeks to fulfill the left’s longtime dream of redistributing money from the suburbs to the cities and inner-ring suburbs, and imposing racial and income balance in every neighborhood.” Obama moves to impose his vision of how we should live, Part One!

A follow on to the above post. “Clearly, the Obama administration’s interest is not in combatting discrimination in housing; its interest is imposing a preordained view of the proper racial and ethnic mix for neighborhoods. And I mean all neighborhoods. For as Rob Astorino, the executive of Westchester County, says, “the battle for zoning in Westchester County [will be] the battle everywhere” — a battle that is “about changing every block, every neighborhood to the viewpoint of federal bureaucrats at HUD.”” Obama moves to impose his vision of how we should live, Part Two

A response to Obama’s attempt to impose his vision of how we should live on us… “I say: BRING. IT. ON. Not just in Westchester County, NY, but in ALL of blue state suburbia, baby! Nowhere is more racially and economically segregated; in fact, that’s the whole point of these suburbs in the first place! Who doesn’t know that?” How Obama Thinks We Should Live: A Reader Responds

This cannot be good.In a post published on New Year’s Eve, OFA’s Maria Liebermann listed the Obama campaign remnant’s “13 favorite immigration reform moments of 2013.” The list of chock full of praise for Republicans who have taken the Democratic Party position on amnesty for illegals, like Ryan and McCain.” OFA Year-End Immigration List Thanks Paul Ryan, John McCain for Helping Amnesty

The war on senior citizens MUST be stopped. “We don’t yet know what those rules will be. But you can be sure that the vast cost overruns of Obamacare will mean extreme pressure to cut medical treatment, especially for people the government deems unworthy of investment. Those Obamacare navigators have to be paid, and there are thousands of new IRS agents who don’t come cheap. So grandpa and grandma will just get pain pills and be told to lie down and die. With the likes of Ezekiel Emanuel offering advice, human life is not going to be the first priority.” The biggest Obamacare whopper of all

The war on the middle class must stop! “What is the most sickening thing to me is that we have been forced into the Health Insurance Marketplace’s Exchange. We wanted to continue our coverage through BSBC and pay as we always had been. But, we found out that option would not be affordable under the new Act, which is how we were forced into the Exchange. Furthermore, not only were we forced into the Exchange, but then forced again to submit an application to ALL Kids for our children. I just don’t understand how we go from being hard working middle class family who provides everything for our family to where we are today. I feel like everything that my husband and I have worked hard for is for nothing.” Alabama Mom’s ObamaCare Horror Story Gives America a Glimpse of Government-Run Healthcare

Hiding the bad news. “If the numbers were good, they’d be telling us.” No, 2.1 million haven’t enrolled in Obamacare plans.
