Reading some of the news today may give you a headache. Be prepared.

Reading some of the news today may give you a headache. Be prepared.

“Americans think poor leadership within government is the most important problem facing the nation, according to a new poll.” America in crisis: Government cited as No. 1 problem in the country

“Forget House of Cards! The good folks at the Cato Institute have begun producing a series of short videos about downsizing the ultimate (fiscal) house of cards, the federal government.  Sounds like an overdue idea.  We’ll run a few of them here on Power Line, starting with the one below examining the Department of Agriculture (about 3 minutes long), but if you can’t wait to take in the whole series, you can find the current playlist (five so far) right here.” Downsizing Washington: The Series!

““Substantial expansion in the size and scope of government, including through new and costly regulations in areas like finance and health care, has contributed significantly to the erosion of U.S. economic freedom,” the Index states. “The growth of government has been accompanied by increasing cronyism that has undermined the rule of law and perceptions of fairness.” It also cites Obamacare as a culprit: “Implementation of the health care law passed in 2010 has hit major snags and appears to be significantly hurting job creation and full-time employment.”” In Economic Freedom, Now We’re No. 12!

“In the new world of government-directed capitalism, friends of Mr. Obama have long since recovered from the recession. The rest of us haven’t been so fortunate. Companies with ties to the administration get government subsidies and contracts, and retailers on Main Street and in the suburban malls get the bill for Obamacare, job-killing regulatory requirements and orders to pay higher-than-market wages. No one should be surprised. Crony capitalism redistributes the wealth to friends of those in power. Rewards to the politically connected at the expense of everybody else is the way of the corrupt world, whether capitalist, Marxist or something between.” Editorial: Growing the Income Gap; The Inequality is by the President’s Own Hand

This: “In contrast, the Working Families party (WFP), a 15-year-old left-wing, union-fueled group with just 20,000 members, now holds the whip hand over much of the dominant Democratic party in New York — and is already spreading its wings to other states. The WFP not only was a major force behind Bill de Blasio’s victory for mayor last November; it dominated the rest of the election, too. “They propelled all three citywide officials in New York City into office, and have a huge chunk of the city council allied with them,” says Hank Sheinkopf, a leading Democratic consultant who has worked for Hillary Clinton. “They are a real force.”” And this: “But Mayor de Blasio isn’t going to have to negotiate with Working Families, because he is in large part their creation. He helped found the party, used the discounted services of their grassroots organizers to win election to the city council in 2001, and then won the citywide office of public advocate with their backing in 2009. Their agenda might as well be his: a new city-wide “living” minimum wage, tax hikes on upper-income New Yorkers, requirements that developers build “affordable” housing units on a massive scale in exchange for building permits, tougher rent controls, retroactive wage hikes for public employees, and severe curbs on the growth of non-union charter schools.” Bill de Blasio’s Other Party: How the Working Families Party is Coming to Power

“Drive away the rich, destroy the middle class and all you’re left with is Detroit. 8 million New Yorkers depend on 40,000 millionaires and billionaires. The same California voters who supported Proposition 30 depend on the taxes of the very people they are taxing into leaving.” Killing the 1% Golden Goose

“OK, those who wring their hands in public about income inequality don’t really want to put full professors and university janitors in the same tax bracket. Most doing the complaining are doing quite well, thanks very much, and have way too much to lose by real income equality. What they hope to achieve by this is to reinforce in the minds of low-information voters the image of Republicans and conservatives as heartless meanies who snatch food from the mouths of widows and orphans and, if you don’t watch them, would tie little Nell to the railroad tracks.” To Each According to His Delusions

“Second, communism means an absence of property rights, having all been surrendered to “the people,” which is to say the state. As that which belongs to everyone in fact belongs to no one, who is to be confronted over the factory sending toxic plumes into the sky which then descends on the cornfield, or the dumping of waste into the river plied by tourists on cruise boats? And who really owns the cornfield or the boats?” If You Think Communism Is Bad For People, Check Out What It Did To The Environment

“The Times frets that conservatives might introduce an argument they’ve long been making. The only difference is that the Times now considers it a legitimate and even pressing argument. Kessler waves away Rubio’s concern that the Democrats will change ObamaCare rules on the fly. But that is the story of ObamaCare thus far. Still, one can understand Kessler’s irritation: the credibility is now with ObamaCare’s critics–and what’s a “fact checker” without his credibility?” ObamaCare’s Credibility Gap

“When the pharmacy contacted my insurance company the insurance company said they had got a letter from obamacare today, and that letter cancelled my policy…yep, you read it here folks, obamacare cancelled my policy.” Obamacare may kill Brick Williams

“The persistent misrepresentations and outright lies were in fact integral to the law’s passage, to its implementation, and to the damage-control phase that began with the botched launch of the online insurance exchanges in October. Judging by how badly the rollout has been managed thus far, it is possible that the president’s apology tour has only just begun.” They Lied: Obamacare’s 12 false premises and broken promises

“They say computer translations are not responsible for the Spanglish gibberish on the website. No, they proudly say, all the errors and nonsensical constructions were produced by human beings being paid a lot of money by the government. Well Gracias Dios for that.” Obamacare’s Spanish-Language Site Written Not In Spanish but… Spanglish

“This debacle highlights one other aspect of Obamacare: It is one big sop to insurance companies, a populist nightmare if the Republicans can make the case. It is also a powerful case for repealing the whole thing and starting over. Obamacare has disrupted the functioning parts of the health-care system and provoked millions of people to lose their insurance and presented people with the reality that they may lose their doctors and their insurance plans. We will be paying (with insurance company bailouts) even more money to cover fewer and fewer people. What Democrat is going to run on this mess in 2014?” Obamacare flops with the young

“To solve their political problem, the GOP would have to convince a majority of the public (probably a big majority) that impeachment is warranted. But that’s the thing — even when the president’s guilty of encroaching on another branch’s powers or suspending parts of the law that are politically inconvenient to him, you’ll never find a majority of Americans willing to entertain a punishment as severe as removal from office for that. To make impeachment stick, you need to show that the president’s motives for acting were rotten and selfish, like Nixon’s; O, by contrast, always takes care to present his motives for ignoring Congress as civic-minded, something he does for the good of the people, not for himself.” Megyn Kelly to Mitch McConnell:If Obama’s executive power grabs are so terrible, why not impeach him?

“The Iranians have always acted as if they thought Obama was a weakling, but their brazen behavior this week demonstrates again that they think there is nothing they can do or say that would provoke a reaction from Washington. While the president pulls out all the stops to prevent even the threat of future sanctions—the proposal being considered by the Senate would not go into effect until after the next round of talks fails—the Iranians are showing they will agree to nothing that will thwart their nuclear ambitions and think Obama won’t lift a finger to stop them.” Rouhani Spikes the Ball in Obama’s Face

On Iran, guess which side is compromising more? “This leads to an important factor: he who wins is he who will compromise less, not he who is willing to compromise more.” The Hopelessness of Victory

Issa’s statement: “Anonymous — and apparently politically motivated — leaks from unnamed law enforcement officials further undermine the public assurances by the current and former FBI directors that this is a legitimate investigation. These leaks come after the Justice Department, citing the confidential nature of the investigation, refused to brief Congress on its progress and congressional investigators independently discovered that a high dollar contributor to the Obama administration failed to recuse herself. These revelations further undermine the credibility of the Attorney General [Eric] Holder and the Justice Department under his leadership. Given the circumstances, there is little reason for the American people to have confidence in this investigation.” Darrell Issa slams Justice Deparment over report no charges forthcoming in IRS Tea Party probe

“The Fox report also debunks the rumor that General Carter Ham received a stand-down order that night. As the classified testimony confirms, the American military was completely unprepared to deal with a terrorist attack in the region that night. This is mind-blowing. This wasn’t just some random night; it occurred on the anniversary of the 9/11 attack. It took place in what Qaddafi’s fall had turned into Terrorist Central in North Africa, in a city where escalating terrorist attacks against Western targets had forced every other Western nation but the US to retreat. As this also states, a visit by Panetta in December 2011, ten months before the attack, led the DoD to offer a Marine unit for security, which State refused. Both agencies knew that Benghazi was a sitting duck, and yet the State Department did nothing to bolster security and the DoD did nothing to bolster readiness on the anniversary of 9/11. This is sheer incompetence stacked on more incompetence. That’s the scandal.” Fox: Administration knew within minutes that Benghazi was a terrorist attack

“We had a good run as a republic, but if this stands and no one responsible is punished, then the Internal Revenue Service will be a tool of partisan politics for the foreseeable future. No one who criticizes a sitting president will be safe from harassment and abuse from a federal agency that can absolutely destroy lives.” The Fix Is In in the IRS Abuse Scandal

As I wrote in December, the administration is hoping to put a close to this controversy by altering the rules to make it difficult, if not impossible for groups that aim at promoting political change—be it from a right-wing or a left-wing point of view—to become non-profits. While technically neutral, this change will have a disproportionate impact on conservative groups since they are far more dependent on 501(c) status than their rivals on the left. This should concern all Americans no matter their politics since giving the IRS that much power to suppress the free speech of political activists poses a grave threat to democracy. The way the agency has been used to regulate political activity is perhaps the most serious scandal here, but combined with the failure of the government to ensure that those who ordered and carried out discriminatory policies are held accountable makes it even worse.” FBI Feeds Cynicism About IRS Scandal

“President Barack Obama has a plan to save the Senate’s tenuous Democratic majority: Sell a populist message, try to make Obamacare work better and raise lots of cash.” Obama’s plan to save the Senate

I posted on this a few days ago, but here’s a more detailed article on Hillary’s enemies list. “One early version of the list featured a grade from one to seven for each Democratic member of Congress, with those the most supportive of Hillary marked with a one and those who most egregiously betrayed her having a mark of seven. Many of the sevens included those who had turned out for Obama after the Clintons had raised funds for their campaigns, appointed them to political jobs, or given a recommendation for the candidate’s child.” How Hillary’s ‘Hit List’ Struck Fear in the Hearts of Democrats

News and Commentary for January 13

It's Monday. Try and have some fun!

It’s Monday. Try and have some fun!

In case you missed it, here’s a rundown of the events of the Maricopa County GOP annual meeting. Maricopa Country Republican Brief for January 11, 2014

My mother-in –law was denied medical care last week. Seniors should be very, very concerned. Here’s the rundown: I talked to my mother-in-law last night.  She had her first denial of coverage by Medicare as a result of the implementation of Obamacare.  She had been scheduled to have some minor back surgery in December (she is in a lot of pain!). However, it was postponed for a variety of reasons.  It was rescheduled for last week, but when she arrived for the procedure, the doctor told her he could no longer do it because it was no longer approved by Medicare. “Just as America is coming to see few alternatives in Obamacare, Democrats see few alternatives for easily escaping it.” Obamacare: Clearly and Consistently Negative

Not really all that unexpected considering the way this whole thing is going. “Stuffed inside the Obamacare law passed by Democrats (with no Republican votes) is a provision that will reimburse insurance companies up to 80% of their losses due to Obamacare.” Confirmed: Obama Administration to REIMBURSE Insurance Companies Up to 80% on O-Care Losses (Video)

More on the insurance company bail out. “For some reason, President Obama hasn’t talked about this particular feature of his signature legislation.  Indeed, it’s bad enough that Obamacare is projected by the Congressional Budget Office to funnel $1,071,000,000,000.00 (that’s $1.071 trillion) over the next decade (2014 to 2023) from American taxpayers, through Washington, to health insurance companies.  It’s even worse that Obamacare is trying to coerce Americans into buying those same insurers’ product (although there are escape routes).  It’s almost unbelievable that it will also subsidize those same insurers’ losses.” Bailing Out Health Insurers and Helping Obamacare

All this will be hitting in October, just in time to impact the elections in a maximum way. “Over the weekend, it seems as though the national media finally figured out what most ObamaCare critics have predicted all along.  On Friday night, the New York Times covered the mess made by the law’s incompetent implementation with providers and insurers, leaving consumers holding the bag.  By Saturday night, the Washington Post had deduced that this was just the entrée. A much bigger wave of disruption will hit when the employer mandates go into effect for 2015 (via Instapundit).” WaPo: Get ready for the second wave of ObamaCare market disruptions

Scary. I mean, really, really scary. “Indeed, Medicare threatens to break the bank even without the vast expansion that would be required to convert it to a single payer system covering all Americans. The most recent Medicare Trustees report reveals that the program is encumbered by an unfunded liability of $43 trillion. This is the amount by which the program’s promised benefits will exceed the tax revenue available to pay for them. $43 trillion is three times the nation’s GDP. Thus, the Trustees also project that Medicare will become insolvent in 2026.” Single Payer: We’ve Been There, Done That

Despicable. Sorry to keep posting articles on this topic, but we need to spread the word about how the Democrats played and will continue to play politics with our sons and daughters in the military. “More than three-fourths of the names on some future Afghanistan memorial wall will be those of American soldiers who died under a commander-in-chief contemptuous of the military, whose foreign policy was (to use Bret Stephens’ expression in this incisive video on the Gates book) “the conduct of politics by other means” – a chilling fact now underlined by a former secretary of defense’s book.” A Tale of Two Surges

The shocking part is that these are just the rules and regs published in 2013! Introducing the 2013 Federal Register: Last year’s 80,000 pages worth of **job-creating rules & regs

Depression. “The neo-Keynesian, demand-side mindset of Chairman Yellen and the rest of the FOMC does not allow them to see or accept that low rates are actually hurting employment, credit, and capital formation. Investors must be paid to take risk. The declining leverage within the US banking system, which was discussed in a Zero Hedge post about Q4 2013 bank earnings (“Are Large Cap Banks Ready to ‘Break Out?’”), is a red flag that Congress ought to be discussing with Chairman Yellen on a weekly basis. Meanwhile moral hazard grows under QE, and Fed-induced bubbles proliferate in the equity and debt markets.” Washington & Wall Street: Janet Yellen’s FOMC Puts U.S. on Path to Deflation

We’re heading in the wrong direction. “Baker, Co-Director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research, told PBS’s Judy Woodruff Friday that contrary to those who spin the falling labor force participation rate as mainly coming from retiring Baby Boomers, young workers are dropping out by the millions. “…it is easy to see the big falloff in labor force participation is among prime age workers, 25-to-54-years-olds. That is down by four full percentage points. That is equivalent to five million people in their prime ages. They are not retiring at age 50.” The White House fed black media the news that black unemployment was down five points from its 2010 high of 16.9% but did not say that this was largely the result of more African-Americans giving up on finding jobs in the Obama economy.” Black Labor Force Participation Rate Under Obama Hits Rock Bottom – Lowest Level Ever Recorded

It’s only a scandal if the press wants it to be one and because Governor Christie has an “R” after his name, this is one of those times. “Scandals are not just about themselves; they are about the media atmosphere that surrounds them. They are perpetuated and deepened by the attention of journalists, whose relentless pursuit of every angle keeps the story going. That is exactly what has been missing from the IRS scandal from its outset; Republicans in Congress have been the dogged pursuers, not the press.” Bridgegate obsession clinically explained

Just a reminder. “The list reads like an AM radio golden oldies countdown: Travelgate, the magical and mysterious Rose Law Firm billing records that showed up in a closet in the White House years after being subpoenaed, Whitewater, Bimbogate, and the vast right-wing conspiracy that unzipped her husband’s pants and forced him to have oral sex with Monica Lewinsky.” Dems Pile on Christie While Ignoring Hillary’s Past

Tough words to hear, but maybe we need to hear them? This: “Republicans “live in a bubble,” former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum told the Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Policy Orientation for the Texas Legislature Thursday, and are detached from the pop culture and concerns of the average Americans whose allegiance they need to prevail nationally. “We live in a bubble. We don’t realize what’s going on,” said the once and perhaps future presidential candidate who is now head of a movie studio based in Flower Mound that produces Christian entertainment. “How many of you watch prime time network television? I suspect none of you.”” And this: “Santorum said the American revolutionaries prevailed against the odds, because they wanted it more, reciting the final words of the Declaration of Independence – “we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.” In America today, he said, it is the left that wants it more.”” Rick Santorum warns fellow Republicans: ‘We live in a bubble’

I am thinking about our Republican candidates in CD9. Who is working the hardest (Vernon Parker, Wendy Rodgers or Andrew Walter)? Do we know? “It’s already 2014, if your candidate hasn’t already got a campaign committee, six figures of campaign money in a campaign account at the bank, and at least a dozen supporters other than committee members who are ready to start putting in 20+ hours per week on campaign grunt work as of this minute, then your candidate has already lost. So move on to the next best choice. And if that candidate also has already lost, move on again. Repeat until you’ve found the best candidate that can win. Volunteer for that candidate. Work hard starting Day One. You’ve got less than 11 months on the election calendar left. Time’s running out. Stop talking and get busy.” Advice to Unhappy Republicans

But first they have to want to hear what we have to say! “Conservatives can offer real solutions to young Americans.” Millennials Are Tiring of Liberal Failures

How does this man manage to keep getting elected? “Gates says that Harry Reid once urged him to have the Defense Department “invest in research on irritable bowel syndrome.”” The trouble with Harry?

Put this on your radar, it’s taking place today. “Tomorrow at 10 a.m., the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on the case of National Labor Relations Board v. Noel Canning. It is a very important case, which is why the court is allowing 90 minutes of oral argument instead of the usual sixty. You can find the legal background here on the indispensable www.scotusblog.com, which will be live-blogging the argument tomorrow morning.” High Drama at the Court Tomorrow

Keeping score. “For Hillary, whose loss was of course not the end of her political career, the spreadsheet was a necessity of modern political warfare, an improvement on what old-school politicians called a “favor file.” It meant that when asks rolled in, she and Bill would have at their fingertips all the information needed to make a quick decision—including extenuating, mitigating and amplifying factors—so that friends could be rewarded and enemies punished.” Hillary’s Hit List

It exists but the Democrats want to keep the fact under wraps, so they can keep winning elections. “DOI undercover agents showed up at 63 polling places last fall and pretended to be voters who should have been turned away by election officials; the agents assumed the names of individuals who had died or moved out of town, or who were sitting in jail. In 61 instances, or 97 percent of the time, the testers were allowed to vote. Those who did vote cast only a write-in vote for a “John Test” so as to not affect the outcome of any contest.” Voter Fraud: We’ve Got Proof It’s Easy

News and Commentary for January 9

Tough roads ahead for all of us. But we can do it!

Tough roads ahead for all of us. But we can do it!

“A contingent of Arizona Republicans is set to vote this weekend on whether to censure GOP Sen. John McCain over his “long and terrible record of drafting, co-sponsoring and voting for legislation best associated with liberal Democrats.”” Group of Arizona Republicans to censure John McCain for siding with ‘liberal Democrats’

Let’s hold Rep. Sinema accountable. We’re tired of the white washing of who she really is. “The congresswoman is obviously feeling the political persecution of voters in her district as Obamacare exemplifies another liberal big-government failure. Remember that Kyrsten was hand-picked by the Obama Administration a few years ago as the administration’s chief saleswoman for Obamacare in Arizona. Kyrsten took her Obamacare sales pitch across the State of Arizona as a lead up to her campaign for Congress. Now she’s feeling the heat and looking for any creative messaging to assuage the anger of voters in her district.” More Political Taqiyya from Kyrsten Sinema

May a Democrat never be the commander in chief of our military EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER again. “Like early reports from a remote region hit by a 7.0 trembler, the early assessments of Duty almost certainly fail to capture its full impact.  Only after the whole book is available for a few weeks to all interested parties –including the military from its senior ranks to its greenest private to its rolls of retired, wounded and widowed– will the full impact of the important memoir be known.” Rumble, Crumble, Tumble: The Gates Earthquake

Absolutely despicable that Obama played politics with our military. “When a man who has worked for every president since Nixon, barring Bill Clinton, says that the White House was by “far the most centralized and controlling” since Kissinger had ruled the roost, it is not a criticism that can be lightly batted away.” Robert Gates’s memoirs add to the sense that Obama’s presidency is unravelling

“The Obama administration was blindsided’ by bombshell accusations in a book by former secretary of defense Robert Gates, according to a White House staffer with knowledge of Tuesday’s events in the White House. ‘They’re breaking it down and dividing it up in the West Wing,’ the aide told MailOnline, describing a frantic scene. ‘No one saw this coming.’ ‘This is very, very bad’: White House insider reveals how Obama was ‘blindsided’ by former defense secretary’s damning allegations in explosive new book

“Rubio added that Obama’s foreign policy has largely been a mess. “It hasn’t been driven by a strategic foreign-policy view,” he said, “it’s largely been driven by tactics and politics and that’s not a way to conduct foreign policy.”” Rubio: Nothing in Gates’s Memoir Surprises Me

“Hunter gave the exactly right answer: “We won in Iraq,” he said first. He then noted that his father, who had served in the Congress for more than a generation, wrote a book called “Victory in Iraq.” He reiterated the point, saying that by 2010, we’d won the war in Iraq. The question was whether we’d abandon what we’d won. “This president,” Hunter said, referring to Barack Obama, “left for purely political reasons.”’ Nam comes to Iraq: Losing to al Qaeda, after winning

True words. ““I’m beginning to really bristle at this progressive label for de Blasio’s programs and Obama’s programs,” Giuliani said during an interview this morning with radio host Geraldo Rivera. “There is nothing progressive about anything they are recommending,” Giuliani said. “It’s all retrogressive. Every idea is 130 years old. … To tax the rich, to set up class warfare, to try to bring people out of poverty through entitlements is a terrible mistake. That is what Bill Clinton declared in the mid-1990s, you know, ‘Welfare will end as we know it.’ It was ruining people, it was making them dependent. You got to break that cycle.”” Giuliani: ‘Nothing progressive’ about de Blasio’s ideas

It seems we have our very own bully on the Right. “New emails that surfaced Wednesday suggest a top aide to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was directly involved in closing lanes on the George Washington Bridge to create traffic jams as retribution against a Democratic mayor who declined to endorse Christie.” Christie quiet after emails link his staff to bridge scandal

For the press, what’s going to have more legs? Chris Christie and the bridge, or the IRS scandal? “From the comments: “For pettiness, I believe this bridge fiasco is more on a par with the shutdown of federal parks during the government shutdown than the IRS abuses. The IRS abuses appear to be intimidation for election purposes. The park blockades appeared to be pettiness to prove a point. The bridge fiasco also appears to be pettiness to prove a point.” Good point.” JAMES TARANTO: Road Rage: Chris Christie, the George Washington Bridge and the IRS.

“The next 24 hours will be crucial for Chris Christie, top Republicans say.” Christie’s Crucial 24 Hours

Long-term damage. “The final reason that the next GOP administration will have a hard time undoing the nutty radical policies of the Obama-era DOJ is the existence of consent decrees. These consent decrees don’t vanish just because President Obama will in 2017.  They remain in force, and the next administration will still have to enforce them.” 3 Reasons Why the Radical Anti-Discipline Policies at DOJ Will Outlast the Obama Era

“Meanwhile, poor black and Hispanic kids who are struggling to get educations in substandard urban public schools are being done great disservices; actually, moral injustices. Holder wants to saddle good kids who are trying to improve their lives with kids whose criminal behavior is at best disruptive to learning and, worst, prevents real learning from occurring.” Putting the Chill on Discipline

“Sold on a lie, cloaked in deception and passed on a trick just this side of legal, this act is not merely an outlier but also an outlaw in the legislative history of our republic. It deserves no respect, gets none from the public and therefore can’t last very long.” It may be ‘the law,’ but Obamacare deserves no respect

“In short, this is another perverse civil rights crusade. Black children live in fatherless households much more often than white or Asian children. It would accordingly be highly unusual for the rates of misbehavior to be the same across races. The policy guarantees that teachers will not be able to help fill the gap by providing a well-disciplined environment at school. The victims of this particular civil rights crusade are black children looking for a decent education.” A perverse civil rights crusade

“The Left doesn’t bother to observe the rules they inflict on everyone else, obviously. And we must always point this out.” Glenn Beck: “Let’s not become what we despise”

Challenging a Leftist lie. “One of the things that provoke the Left into bringing out the “trickle-down” bogeyman is any suggestion that there are limits to how high they can push tax rates on people with high incomes, without causing repercussions that hurt the economy as a whole.” The Trickle-Down Lie

“The newly flowering buds of Marxism no longer reside on the fringes. Not when the president of the United States has declared fighting income inequality his chief task as commander in chief. Not when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., has said that America faces “no greater challenge” than income disparity. Not when MSNBC, The New York Times and the amalgamated pro-Obama media outlets have all declared their mission for 2014 a campaign against rich people.” Why Socialism Is on the Rise

“The War on Poverty itself has produced today over 80 federal welfare programs that cost about $1 trillion a year (the national GDP average of countries in the OECD, known as the rich man’s club, is $1.4 trillion). The cost would matter less if the programs succeeded in easing Americans out of poverty and helping them become upwardly mobile. The problem, however, is that many of the poor become entangled in the safety net that was supposed to help them.” Hispanics and the War on Poverty

“Rubio offers a great example of how conservatives should be thinking about poverty in America, and about the conceptual perversity and (resulting) practical inadequacy of our vast array of anti-poverty programs. And he helps us also to see how the Democrats’ misguided emphasis on inequality as the core of that problem opens up real opportunities for Republicans to lay out for the country their vision of the American dream, and their agenda for helping more Americans achieve it.” Rubio on Poverty and the Welfare State

Uh oh. “One worrisome trend; the number of indies leaning Democratic has increased while the number leaning Republican has gone down. Independents don’t vote in great numbers in off year elections so it probably won’t hurt the GOP very much next November. But Republicans have to find a way to reverse that trend or the Democrats will cruise to another victory in 2016.” 42% of Americans now identify as political independents

“Democrats aren’t known for giving the nomination to the previous cycle’s runner-up. In fact, they are much more likely to kick the losers to the curb. But their devotion to Clinton is based on several factors. First, theirs is a party driven by identity politics; I have no doubt that a man with similar credentials and longevity would have to battle it out. To be crass, Democrats elected an African American, so now it is time for a woman, many Democrats feel.” Why Dems will go down with the S.S. Hillary

News and Commentary for January 8

Things are looking good for the Republicans in November. You can smile, but don't get too cocky! We've go t lots of word to do!

Things are looking good for the Republicans in November. You can smile, but don’t get too cocky! We’ve got so much work to do to ensure victory.

We can win it all in November! Please oh please, let’s not snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. “The latest sign comes in a new Pew Research Center poll released Tuesday that shows the midterm enthusiasm battle is tilted in the GOP’s favor. Sixty-three percent of Republicans say they are looking forward to the midterm elections, compared to just 53 percent of Democrats.” The GOP’s midterm enthusiasm advantage, in 2 charts

Senator Ted Cruz? “There are moments in American political history when dissatisfaction with the old order and suspicion—even fear—of its ways presents the opportunity for monumental change.” The GOP Needs a Conservative in 2016

It’s all they have left. “The left knows they are at a disadvantage. HuffPo’s warning about “dark money” is just the first salvo in the campaign to silence the right this year. To paraphrase the old legal saw, if neither the facts or the law are on your side, pound the table. The left is going to pound the table loudly until November.” Left Tries to Silence Conservatives Ahead of 2014 Midterms

How Obama and his minions live with themselves, I will NEVER know-Part 1. ” It is a shame and a tragedy that President Obama and Prime Minister Maliki did not honor the sacrifices of so many troops in the past, both American and Iraqi, by doing more to build on the success of the surge. But that is not the fault of those troops, who fought magnificently to give Iraq an opportunity–now being squandered–for a better future.” Iran’s Squandered Opportunity

How Obama and his minions live with themselves, I will NEVER know–Part 2. “So Obama was sending our young men and women off to a meat grinder with no real confidence in the likelihood of success. How like Lyndon Johnson.” TOM MAGUIRE: Obama Quit In Afghanistan.

Lots of articles today about former Defense Secretary Robert Gate’s new book, “Duty.”

  • “9. Obama’s Domestic Politics: Mr. Gates says that domestic politics factored into “virtually every major national security problem” the Obama White House faced. At one point, Mr. Gates writes, he witnessed a conversation between Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton in which the president “conceded vaguely” that his opposition to the 2007 military surge in Iraq was a political calculation. Mr. Gates called the exchange “remarkable.”” Top 10 Revelations From Robert Gates’s Memoir Hat Tip: Lucianne.com
  • “Obama doesn’t believe in the surge or in the war, or in his own actions,” Krauthammer said, “He doesn’t believe in [General] Petraeus, he hates [Afghan President] Karzai, he thinks the war isn’t his. How can a commander-in-chief do that?” Krauthammer on Gates’ revelations about Obama: ‘How can a commander-in-chief do that?’ Hat Tip: Lucianne.com
  • “But the splash being made by these (mostly unsurprising) insider claims is a testament to the credibility Gates has earned over his distinguished career, and suggests the considerable authority his account of these last few years will carry.” Bob Gates vs. the White House
  • “I would not go so far as to say Gates did the wrong thing. In the year 2009 any objection against Obama he may have raised would have fallen on deaf ears. Now he has a better chance of a hearing. But it is not an easy admission for anyone to say, “I walked with them”.” A City of Two Tales
  • “It will be interesting to watch how the Obama administration reacts. I expect Gates to be trashed, Chicago-style, at a minimum, even though Obama said a lot of nice things about him in public.” The first ex-cabinet secretary to attack Obama writes his memoir
  • “What to make of his critique of Obama? Mild, compared to what George W. Bush had to endure from formerly trusted aides. But there is also confirmation that Obama’s far left worldview is distrustful of people in uniform and that his leadership abilities as commander in chief are found wanting.” Gates memoir skewers Obama
  • “Most of the attention from Robert Gates’ new memoir has focused on its impact on Barack Obama and the presumed 2016 campaign of Hillary Clinton.  The former Secretary of Defense sharply criticizes both for playing politics with the lives of soldiers, even though Gates’ memoir also includes praise for both in other contexts. The one politician who gets no nuance from Gates, though, is Joe Biden. Gates slams the Vice President for having “been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades,” which Allahpundit joked yesterday constitutes proof of the book’s accuracy.” [Snip] “So why leap to Biden’s defense, even ahead of Obama’s? Perhaps because Obama needs Biden as a front for his own foreign policy, a shield that assumes Biden has gravitas in the first place. The only people who seem to think that, though, are Joe Biden and Barack Obama.” WH: Hey, who doesn’t like and respect Joe Biden?

Why do we let them out when so many go back to battle? “The Washington Post reports that U.S. officials suspect Sufian Ben Qumu, an ex-Guantanamo detainee, “played a role in the attack on the American compound in Benghazi, Libya, and are planning to designate the group he leads as a foreign terrorism organization.” Ben Qumu is based in Derna, Libya and runs a branch of Ansar al Sharia headquartered in the city.” Obama Administration’s Benghazi Bombshell

Obama’s administration was never going to be about transparency. “No one is served by Obama and Clinton lying to the caskets. Few Americans will volunteer to serve in dangerous parts of the world armed only with this assurance: “If you are killed in the line of duty, the leaders of the free world will lie to your caskets.” That’s a mission impossible.” They Will Lie to Your Casket

Culture posers I. “My favorite double standard these days concerns how liberals think the “stop and frisk” tactic of New York and other police departments are abusive, arbitrary, etc.  Good that liberals have rediscovered at least a sliver of the potential for arbitrary government power—opposition to arbitrary state power being a core principle of liberalism once upon a time—even if it probably works to public benefit.  (I was amused at a recent PuffHo story that reported breathlessly that only about half of all stop and frisks resulted in an arrest, as though that was a scandal.  To the contrary, given discretion allowed to police officers, a 50 percent arrest rate shows the success of the tactic.)” Liberalism and Double Standards

Cultural posers II. “But knowing more would interfere with the demonization. And the demonization is the point.” KEVIN WILLIAMSON: The Ignorant Left: An Ongoing Series.

But at least the Left “feels” good about trying. “To understand the failure of the war on poverty requires understanding its structure, which itself is bound up in the idiosyncrasies of Lyndon Johnson’s politics. President Johnson played many parts in his political career: Southern ballast to John Kennedy’s buoyant Yankee idealism; an enemy of civil-rights reform and anti-lynching laws who reversed himself in 1964; a sometimes reluctant but in the end unshakeable Cold Warrior. But at heart President Johnson was a New Deal man, and his Great Society, of which the war on poverty was a critical component, was his attempt to resuscitate the spirit and the political success of Franklin Roosevelt’s program.” The Fifty-Year War

They’ll never learn. “Regardless, the failure of Communism didn’t put the debate to rest because the debate is eternal. Like those summer fireflies, it is a permanent fixture of the human condition, particularly among the affluent and fashionably rebellious young who are always eager to explain why this time is different.” Millennial Communists

So sad. “As New York City’s crusading liberal Mayor Bill de Blasio takes up his pitch fork, don’t worry too much about the wealthy bankers he plans to tax — they can fend for themselves. The potential victims of de Blasio’s “march toward a fairer, more just, more progressive place” are the small businesses and voluntary associations that make up civil society. Charter schools, crisis pregnancy centers, small businesses and private charities are all in de Blasio’s crosshairs. These are government’s rivals in the business of getting people what they want and need — and a growing government doesn’t tolerate rivals.” Bill de Blasio’s ‘march’ to end inequality tramples little guy

Remember, this is the administration that said “Never let a crisis go to waste.” “To be clear, I’m not claiming, as some have inferred from previous columns, that there is a widely orchestrated chaos-creation plan, or that any attempt to capitalize on the current bedlam to impose single-payer is destined to succeed. What I am saying is that the evidence supporting the idea that certain of Obamacare’s key players are determined to try continues to mount.” A Chaos-Driven Path to Single Payer?

News and Commentary for January 6 and 7

It's a big tent. Let's all get along! Otherwise we won't win.
It’s a big tent. Let’s all get along! Otherwise we
won’t win.

Unbelievably outrageous. As reviewed by Bob Woodward, so this is as insidery as it gets. In a new memoir, former defense secretary Robert Gates unleashes harsh judgments about President Obama’s leadership and his commitment to the Afghanistan war, writing that by early 2010 he had concluded the president “doesn’t believe in his own strategy, and doesn’t consider the war to be his. For him, it’s all about getting out.” Which is what is so galling. Men are being killed at three times the rate as they died under Bush’s leadership, and Obama is not even trying to win.” Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates Harshly Critiques Obama in His New Memoir “Duty”

Unfortunatley, we all go down with it. “Leftist academia has long been playing a game of Jenga with the tower of western culture, pulling out blocks from the bottom in the knowledge the tower will ultimately collapse. What they don’t realize is:  they’re sitting on top of the tower. When it goes down, they’ll go down with it.” The Left’s Cultural Jenga

Wise up America. “With elections looming in 2014, it is about time for Barack Obama to gear up another progressive “war” against the rich, the limb loppers, the fat cats, the tonsil pullers, the “enemies” of Latinos, the jet junketers, the women haters, and those who knew neither when to stop profiting nor how the government had really built their businesses. We shall shortly witness some of the wealthiest and most privileged of capitalist America decrying inequality and unfairness from the 18th hole in Hawaii, the Malibu gated estate, and the Beacon Hill mansion. And the faux populism will probably work, at least if 2008 and 2012 are any indications.” Intelligent Populism vs. Mindless Progressivism

What an amazing and insightful man. “Krauthammer explained in a 2011 column that “…if we don’t get politics right, everything else risks extinction.” Simple yet poignant; he could have started and ended the book there. But as I lay in bed reading Things That Matter, something struck me. Out of almost every piece included in the book (88 columns spanning three decades), there was a thought or statement that is just as relevant today as when first written.”” The Insights of Charles Krauthammer

What have we wrought? “The Middle East is imploding. America is pulling back. Time for a new regional strategy.” Israel in the Eye of the Hurricane

This country is full of people who just don’t seem to care. “The eastern world, it is exploding. Violence flaring and bullets loading. It’s hard to pinpoint just when, exactly, Barack Obama’s policy fell apart, but collapse it has, and many, many deaths later, the White House is now pinning its hopes on the belief that low-information voters won’t notice.  Of course they won’t, until they do.” Mainstream Media Covers Obama’s Middle East Meltdown

Dereliction of duty. “Tapper spoke with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt on Monday about the former Secretary of State’s prospects for the presidency. One of the few mainstream media reporters to challenge the Obama administration’s deflections over the deadly September 2012 attack in Libya, Tapper noted that it won’t be easy for Clinton to shed her Benghazi baggage on her way to the White House.” CNN’s Jake Tapper says Hillary will have to answer for Benghazi

God help us. “Publicly, Clinton insists she’s many months away from a decision about her political future. But a shadow campaign on her behalf has nevertheless been steadily building for the better part of a year — a quiet, intensifying, improvisational effort to lay the groundwork for another White House bid.” Hillary Clinton’s shadow campaign

They deserve it all right. “If New Yorkers don’t think de Blasio’s pitch is tired and juvenile, they deserve it.” The Mayor New York Deserves

Why is this so hard to understand? “It is one thing to be against poverty; it is something else to be against inequality. One could end poverty and still have plenty of inequality; one could end inequality by impoverishing everyone.” De Blasio, Obama, Screwtape et al.

A long term project we must take on: delegitimizing Liberalism. “The left here and across the globe have profited handsomely for years from the hijacking of compassion and its misbegotten applications, in service far less to the unfortunate than in service to leftist power-building and grubby self-interest.  Compassion housed in big government can result in little more (ah, yes, there was Soviet mass murder and squalor).” Seize ‘Compassion’ from the Left in 2014

I know, I keep repeating myself, but when will people say “Enough is enough?” “This will be the year of the intrusive, oppressive state. Obviously, this will not much distinguish it from 2013, 2012 or 2011. But still: fundamental issues of government and its reach into our lives are now bubbling away as never before, and may well reach boiling point over the next 12 months.” The left is too silent on the clunking fist of state power

When will the lies of the Left stop? “That virtually all women can’t meet the standards to do these jobs is so well-established a fact that only the liberal idiots who control Obama’s Pentagon could deny it.” So Many Intolerable Lies

Is there still hope? “Even a lawless President, a complicit Senate majority, a one-party judiciary and a fawning press may not, however, succeed in undoing consent of the governed. We Americans have rebounded before from wars, economic collapses, plagues and both criminally opportunistic and criminally inept politicians. We can and must restore and repair the battered Constitution and the proper relationship between citizen and government. Our chance comes this November.” How the Obama administration dismantled American government

Will not be working as advertised. “As she poked and prodded, I asked how her practice was going. This question elicited a resigned sigh and a brief but poignant discourse on the necessity of “firing” her Medicaid patients. Medicaid, the government program that ostensibly provides health coverage for the poor, imposes so much red tape and pays so parsimoniously that she simply cannot afford to treat these patients if she wishes to avoid bankruptcy.” Obamacare’s Medicaid Fraud

Don’t get old, if you can help it. “It’s hard enough being old, with your faculties declining as you become a prime target for scammers and hucksters. But to make matters worse, you are also being cheated and persecuted by your own government. I don’t think “persecuted” is too strong a word. The present Democratic regime is throwing you under the bus, in favor of the young (and often unemployed) voting groups that they depend upon to keep them in power. And as to “cheating”, bankers and financiers, whose ranks include greedy pillagers of retirement funds, are being joined by the government itself, which has developed its own methods of cheating.” Obama’s War Against the Elderly

News and Commentary for January 2

Don't go to sleep, or get comfortable. We've got some elections to win!

Don’t go to sleep, or get comfortable. We’ve got some elections to win!

It wouldn’t have been this way if we elected Romney as president. “Whichever side you find yourself on, know this: No sane person builds a widget factory in the middle of a battlefield.” A Year of Fear

Resumes. “So, Walesa and Obama have two things in common: winning the Nobel Peace Prize and being elected president of their respective countries. While Lech Walesa’s Peace Prize was awarded based on courageous and heroic accomplishments, the newly-elected Obama received his Nobel Peace Prize based upon the belief (by some) that he would, in his words, “heal the planet” and “stop the oceans’ rise.”” Nobel Prize Winning Anti-Communist Icon: Obama Has Failed Politically And Morally

According to this author, we lost our economic freedom one hundred years ago with the establishment of the Federal Reserve. “Even you, dear reader, are probably wondering how on earth anyone could challenge things like Social Security, government schools, and the FDA. But that’s not the point. The point is: these statist, anti-capitalist programs exist and have existed for about a century. The point is: Obama is pretending that the Progressive Era, the New Deal, and the Great Society were repealed, so that he can blame the financial crisis on capitalism. He’s pretending that George Bush was George Washington.” Obama To Americans: You Don’t Deserve To Be Free

We’re in the best of hands! “At the end of last year, President Obama was in Hawaii. French President Hollande was in Saudi Arabia, whose leaders openly declare their contempt for American leaders. Obama is basically having fun. Hollande and the royal family are basically doing strategy. They are designing actions to advance their interests in the new world;  not, as is often said, a world without America, but a world in which American leaders have turned against America.” 2014: The World Without America. Or Is It?

A comprehensive list! Ten 2013 stories that should make news in 2014

In order to prevail, we must prepare for battle! “This does not mean the battles are over for conservatives. They’re just beginning. The media have already geared up toward nominating Hillary Clinton in 2016 (The New York Times whitewash of Benghazi this week was only the beginning). The DC-run Republican Party has a disheartening way of crippling its own conservative base in order to cut deals. But 2013 could go down as the year that conservatives moved beyond standing athwart history shouting “stop,” and began shoving in the opposite direction, which could make 2014 historic.” What to Expect in 2014

But how many low information voters are finally figuring this out? “He forgot the old rule that a president can mislead, misstate, and misquote only so many times. And there were many, many times in 2013. Can we ever recall them all? The false red lines in Syria. The promise to intervene and then not to intervene against Bashar Assad in Syria. The need for tough and suddenly not-so-tough sanctions against Iran. The ongoing vows to find the allegedly video-inspired killers of Americans in Benghazi. The good and then bad Muslim Brotherhood, and the good and then bad junta that followed. The once-“outrageous” IRS scandal now dismissed as a mere hyped media melodrama. The doctors and health plans you can keep — period! The serial summers of recovery.” The Year of the Dud

An interesting article. “Many people, says Somin, acquire political knowledge for the reason people acquire sports knowledge — because it interests them, not because it will alter the outcome of any contest. And with “confirmation bias,” many people use political information to reinforce their preexisting views. Committed partisans are generally the most knowledgeable voters, independents the least. And the more political knowledge people have, the more apt they are to discuss politics with people who agree with, and reinforce, them.” The price of political ignorance: More government

The Left NEVER learns. “It’s part of the real story of an ongoing destruction of wealth that coincides precisely with France’s rise in public spending: In 2007, the companies listed on France’s stock exchange had a market capitalization of $2.7 trillion. Today, they’re worth less than $1.8 trillion.” France Surrenders Its Wealth and Talent to High Taxes

I really don’t get what’s happening here. “Disabled veterans would be among those targeted by the cut. Note that those cost-of-living adjustments hit veterans starting three years from now, for those younger than 62. Yet Congress won’t even consider Medicare and Social Security reforms unless those reforms don’t start for 10 years and only hit those 55 years old and under. Why don’t our veterans deserve the same basic consideration that reformers give to our senior citizens?” Congress Throws Veterans Under the Bus for Illegal Immigrants

Did you know about this? “Connecticut gun owners are rushing to register certain firearms and ammunition that will be considered illegal contraband in the new year.” Looks Like Weimar Germany’: The Viral Photo Out of Connecticut That’s Giving Some Gun Owners Chills

The Left’s brilliance in action. “In “saving” the American auto industry, Obama gave an American company away. And he gave it away at the expense of pension funds and other secured creditors, which were given a much smaller stake in the new company than they would have been given under traditional bankruptcy proceedings. American manufacturing workers also lost out on the deal; many are now hostages to the woes of Fiat and the Italian economy.” The Great Italian Auto Bailout — Courtesy of U.S. Taxpayers

Can someone PLEASE put an end to these kinds of shenanigans? “Capitalism ruining their party, the bulb-makers turned to government. Philips teamed up with NRDC. GE leaned on its huge lobbying army — the largest in the nation — and soon they were able to ban the low-profit-margin bulbs.” THE END OF INCANDESCENT LIGHTBULBS — NOT ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION, BUT CORPORATE CRONYISM

New York City is about to get what it deserves. “In a pie-in-the-sky inaugural address, de Blasio promised class-based hatred and civil unrest in pursuit of so-called social justice.” Comrade De Blasio Takes Over

More on the swearing in of De Blasio… “Bill Clinton then rose and tried to strike a little balance. But the crowd was having none of it. When he praised retiring mayor Bloomberg for leaving New York “stronger and healthier” after twelve years in office, there was dead silence.” Bill in the China Shop: ‘We Won’t Wait, We’ll Do It Now’

The repercussions of the feminization of our society. “”The entire elite class now, in finance, in politics and so on, none of them have military service—hardly anyone, there are a few. But there is no prestige attached to it anymore. That is a recipe for disaster,” she says. “These people don’t think in military ways, so there’s this illusion out there that people are basically nice, people are basically kind, if we’re just nice and benevolent to everyone they’ll be nice too. They literally don’t have any sense of evil or criminality.”” Camille Paglia: War on Men Destroying American Culture

Not surprising. “The science is settled. According to research published in the December edition of Social Science Quarterly, viewers who are “not prepared” to be critical about what they see onscreen are more likely to experience a temporary politically “leftward shift” when watching Hollywood movies with an “underlying liberal message.”” Study Says Movies Make You Liberal

What’s happening to our party? “Karl Rove (i.e., architect of the American Crossroads SuperPAC), the Chamber of Commerce, and the Washington GOP Establishment have declared war on the Reaganite conservative base of the Republican Party.” Karl Rove and the GOP Socialists

Truth. “Do you believe the intelligence our agencies collected and the reporting of our diplomats on the scene at the time, or do you believe what the New York Times was told by Libyans, many of them Islamic extremists and some of them terrorists, more than a year later? The answer to that question probably depends on what position you hold in the Hillary Clinton campaign.” The difference Hillary makes

Trust. “Despite conventional wisdom, Republicans and Democrats can agree on important issues. As a lifelong Republican, I agree with Democrat Warren Buffett: Obamacare should be scrapped. I also agree with Hollywood liberals that NSA spying on millions of innocent Americans is a violation of our collective right to privacy. And I agree with feminist Camille Paglia that Hillary Clinton disqualified herself as a presidential candidate with her handling of Benghazi.” Cohen: No way Hillary could ever gain our troops’ trust

Definitely not working as advertised. “The National Federation of Independent Businesses, an organization that represents nearly 11,000 entrepreneurs across the state, says it has yet to find a single member whose health-care costs are going down under the ObamaCare program, whose plans took effect New Year’s Day.” Here are the Big Losers in Obamacare

The bad stuff was back loaded. “As we enter 2014, Democrats are trying to reassure themselves that Americans will eventually embrace ObamaCare. They point to the “good” things in the law, i.e. parents able to keep kids on their policy until they are 26, free health screenings and new prescription drug benefits. The problem for Democrats, however, is that those provisions are already in effect and have been since 2010. Any benefit Americans perceive from these provisions is already factored into their views of ObamaCare.”  5 ObamaCare Nightmares for Democrats in 2014

We’re really in the best of hands. “The White House keeps insisting that their ObamaCare system has just experienced “glitches,” which will all get smoothed out shortly. However, the Medicare system used to be able to pay providers until Novitas got involved, and it’s possible that the hospital might have to cease operations for lack of staff. They certainly might choose not to accept Medicare assignments in the future, and I doubt that the issue is limited to St. Anthony’s in Houston. Just imagine what will happen when Novitas brings its payment-systems expertise to private insurers looking for subsidies to cover premiums for ObamaCare enrollees. Will insurers wait weeks and months to get those premiums — or will they dump their enrollees for non-payment? Stay tuned.” Video: Healthcare.gov contractor forcing hospital to miss payroll — for weeks

News and Commentary for December 31

2014 Is Coming. Get Ready to Win!

2014 Is Coming. Prepare for Election Battles! We MUST be Ready.

Read it. “Yes, Virginia. There really is a split in the Republican Party. There always has been and always will be. But the acrimony is spinning out of control and the only people benefitting are the Democrats.” Rules for ALL Republicans

Stop the infighting and get to doing whatever it takes to defeat Hillary. “As Roger Kimball pointed out, the New York Times (the very model of that propagandistic veneer) already knows their bread is buttered with Hillary, not Obama. They demonstrated that Saturday with their revisionist article on Benghazi, bent on taking that scandal (Hillary’s Achilles’ heel) off the table for the coming elections or at least seriously defusing it. Republicans would do well to redouble their efforts to make sure this particular obfuscation does not succeed by doing the proper research and communicating the results to the public — succinctly and repeatedly.” The Principal Enemy

A call to arms. “Remember, we don’t need to silence our opposition – empirical evidence demonstrates the meritlessness of leftist ideology. Liberals need to silence us because we’re right and they’re wrong.” Liberals Win Only If We Refuse To Fight Back

Show them all the door. “The coming year presents an opportunity to Americans who hope for better. Despite Washington’s dysfunction, “We the People” still call the shots and can demand a course correction. In 2014, here’s a message worth considering: If you don’t like the rulers you have, you don’t have to keep them.” Tom Coburn: The Year Washington Fled Reality

I really mean it, in November 2014, let’s show them all the door—because none of our elected officials is representing “We the People.” “On Breitbart News Sunday on Sirius XM Patriot channel 125 with Breitbart News Executive Chairman and host Stephen K. Bannon, Schweizer, regarded as the top expert on crony capitalism in the nation, said Republicans and Democrats in Washington, D.C. are like “two vultures fighting over a carcass.” He said both parties are fighting over “who’s going to pick at the carcass more.”” Breitbart News Sunday–Schweizer: Conservatives Should Adopt Reagan’s ‘No Compromise’

Who’s going to start standing up for the middle class again? “Crony capitalism — the highly profitable alliance between Big Business, K Street, and the federal government — is a frequent topic of scorn for Republican critics of President Obama. But while crony capitalism has certainly flourished under the Obama administration, the GOP hasn’t exactly gone out of its way to combat the trend.” Middle-Class Heroes?

Fear. “The city of Volgograd in southern Russia used to be called Stalingrad, and so they know about destruction there. Anyone who wanted to sabotage the Winter Olympics billed to start in Russia in February might well start by showing their capacities in a place of such symbolism. And that’s just what they have done.” Stalingrad, Again

Watching the watchers. “In 2014, the failures associated with President Obama’s “signature achievement” will become far more widely visible, and its negative economic effects will become more widely felt. Other aspects of his presidential stewardship are on track for similar decay. As a result, the likelihood that the left will suffer serious damage in the fall’s congressional elections will increase. As that occurs, look for the establishment press’s alleged journalists to make heavier use of the techniques discussed above and many others in an attempt to stop the bleeding.” Ten Forms of 2013 Media Malpractice

“PolitiFact is an embarrassment to the world of fact-checking, let alone to the world of prediction-checking to which it actually belongs. Their 2008 Pulitzer Prize—prominently mentioned on every PolitiFact web page—owes itself in part to the group’s lazy and inaccurate reporting on Obamacare. If PolitiFact were intellectually honest, it would acknowledge that it was undeserving of that prize, reflect on how its work has gone astray, and focus in the future on actual fact-checking instead of prediction-checking.” Pants On Fire: PolitiFact Tries To Hide That It Rated ‘True’ in 2008 Obamacare’s ‘Keep Your Health Plan’ Promise

A MUST READ that will make your blood boil. “As to his somewhat recent pre-existing condition, I would hope a financial consultant understands risk management and financial planning. Why should the rest of us pay for his health procedures while he re-invests in his seemingly successful company?” ObamaCare – Making Insurance Affordable For Fitness Buffs

2014 is coming and Obamacare is going to make it ugly for Democrats. “Service adviser Steve Williams said Obamacare has destroyed the era of affordable health care.” Auto Workers on Obamacare: ‘We’re Pissed Off’

“Remember: President Obama delayed the employer mandate till 2015. So most Americans who have employer-sponsored health insurance really have not felt the Obamacare pain yet. That will change as more and more businesses make the same types of decisions Extreme Dodge did above. And when they do, Obamacare’s approval ratings can only go down.” Why Obamacare Will Only Get Less Popular

Definitely NOT leading by example. “Then, to add insult to injury, Obama chose the cheapest of the four plans available — the bronze plan costing $400 a month. Not for his whole family, mind you. They don’t need Obamacare. He chose a low-cost plan just for himself. Which makes sense. He’s not going to actually use it, so why pay sky-high premiums like the millions of people he drove out of their individual market health plans? Besides, most Americans stuck with Obamacare plans can get their families covered elsewhere for free, right?” The Obamacare Obama gets

Do they know how biased they are? “How do the mainstream media come clean to the American people and let them know that purely because of their own political and personal bias, they went out of their way to deliberately deceive their readers and viewers as they ignored, under-reported or flat-out misrepresented the “facts” surrounding the most important story in years. A story that directly effects every single American.” ObamaCare Misreporting Underscored Mainstream Media’s Malfeasance

Lack of accountability. “This is how you take your lumps in the Obama administration. Botch the roll-out of the president’s legacy law so badly that you end up with three million fewer insured people than when we started, and you get to retire, announce it over a holiday weekend, and grab that juicy pension for 41 years of mediocre-to-disastrous public service.News dump: CMS official in charge of HealthCare.gov retiring

Drip, drip, drip. “Obviously the specter of Benghazi is not going away. It is causing the liberal progressives of the Democratic Party and their media propaganda arm grave concern. Something happened in Benghazi that would make the Iran-Contra scandal look like Romper Room.” WEST: Benghazi lies unravel as Obama, Clinton & Rice still deceive America

Where’s the media on this part of the Benghazi story? “Not one sentence in the article explained why the administration allows Khattala to strut freely around Benghazi today. President Obama authorizes drone strikes to kill dozens of Islamists each year. Why is Khattala off-limits? That is the real story.” Why won’t Obama target Benghazi ringleader?

Revising history to save Hillary’s hide. “It resembles the infamous White House talking points — on steroids.” NYT Revives Benghazi Video Lie To Save Hillary

“Transparency, the current vogue word for truth-telling, is usually a good thing, unless you’re trying to fool all the people some of the time, like spending 7,000 words to resurrect a fairy tale in Benghazi, all to give a helping hand to a lady in distress.” PRUDEN: Betrayal that whitewash won’t cover

I suspect that the Democrats can’t win if Voter ID Laws are adhered to. ““From voter fraud to election chicanery of all kinds, America teeters on the edge of scandal every November,” writes Larry Sabato, the director of the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia and author of a comprehensive survey of voter fraud called “Dirty Little Secrets.” The fact that so many people want to thwart legitimate and prudent efforts to improve ballot integrity has become a scandal in its own right.” Report: New York Investigators Obtain Fraudulent Ballots 97 Percent of Time
