Stories of the Day

Rest in peace Kayla. How long are we going to let this kind of thing continue? “The nightmare started in the summer of 2013, when Kayla Mueller and her boyfriend were forced off the road and kidnapped by the Islamic State.

While her boyfriend was eventually released, the 26-year-old aid worker spent the next several months shuttling between holding cells – a children’s hospital in Aleppo, an industrial area near the Turkish border, and the ISIS stronghold of Raqqa.

Despite attempts to rescue her, including a failed U.S. raid last year, the Arizona resident – who was beloved by her family and friends and now has become a symbol of American sacrifice for the people of Syria – was killed.” The Back Story: Details emerge on Kayla Mueller’s capture, captivity at ISIS hands

“They think the American people are stupid. Can you blame them? After all, we elected them. Twice.” Jim Treacher: If You Don’t Like The Obama Administration’s Position On Terrorism, Just Wait A Few Minutes.

Obama Lies, AGAIN

Shocker. “In the course of relating his many experiences at the White House, Miller confirms, Axelrod admits openly that President Obama “misled Americans for his own political benefit when he claimed in the 2008 election to oppose same sex marriage for religious reasons.” “Obama,” he adds plainly and without nuance, “was in favor of same-sex marriages during the first presidential campaign, even as [he] publicly said he only supported civil unions, not full marriages.” In and of itself, Miller notes, this dishonesty is disappointing. But, for Obama in particular, it has deleterious consequences, prompting us as it does to call “into question the President’s stated embrace of a new kind of politics” and his promise “to be unlike other politicians who change their views to match the political winds.” Is it possible, one can see it asked between the lines, that the whole “hope and change” malarkey was a circus act?” Was Obama’s Gay-Marriage Stance a Noble Lie or Cynical Opportunism? Either way, the hope-and-change malarkey was a circus act.

Does Obama ever tell the truth? “There’s just one problem: He’s both a coward and an inveterate liar. So everytime he drops a would-be #Truthbomb on us, the coward then sends out his minions to lie on his behalf and say he didn’t mean what he obviously meant.

I mean, I guess we should take him at his word. I mean, he wouldn’t lie, for example, about opposing gay marriage, then “evolving” on it, or about whether you could keep your doctor if you like your doctor.” Obama Lied About His Position on Gay Marriage, David Axelrod Reveals

Lying just doesn’t get the reaction it used to. Especially when it’s a Democrat doing the lying. “So, let’s recap. Axelrod admits that (a) Obama lied (b) mainly to his religious black supporters (c) about not only his opposition to gay marriage, but about his religious beliefs (d) in order to win election. And then he lied about his change of heart, which was no change at all but a strategic move. And Axelrod admits this in a book called, ironically Believer (I haven’t read the book, but from the title it appears the “believer” is Axelrod as a political animal). (snip)

Most politicians do that to a certain extent, but Obama does it to a greater degree, and he has become much more open about the fact that he lies, because he realizes that most of America just doesn’t seem to care. This seems relatively new, and bodes ill for the future of the country, because the less we demand of our politicians the less we will get.” Axelrod admits Obama lied, nation yawns

Practice makes perfect. “When President Obama was running for president in 2008, he quipped to a top aide that “I’m just not very good at bulls***ting” on gay marriage.” Obama in 2008: ‘I’m Just Not Very Good at Bulls***ting”

And now he’s lying about the lie. Obama: I didn’t mislead voters on gay marriage

Remember folks, we’ve got another two years of lies. “As attempted denials go, this one is about as lame as they come. It’s hard to even know where to begin here, but the President’s own words indicate the depths he’s having to sink to after Axelrod painted him into this corner. First of all, how can someone mix up your personal feelings with your position on an issue? Does this mean that you take positions which are contrary to your personal feelings? And more to the point, you apparently do so without letting the rest of us in on this internal conflict? That’s nonsensical.” Obama: Saying I misled you all on gay marriage “isn’t quite accurate”

Obama and Russia

Flexibility. “On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved but it’s important for him to give me space,” Obama said with a brotherly arm pat, noting 2012 was his last election. Medvedev responded, “I will transmit this information to Vladimir.”

It was long thought that Obama’s gaffe, caught on an open mic during one of those frequent summits national leaders feel the need for, dealt only with the Democrat giving away more to Russia on missile defense. (Scroll down to hear the whispers not intended for his own countrymen’s ears.)

But Obama has elongated the nuclear “negotiations” with Iran to no end and Russia’s benefit. Obama slapped sanctions on Russia that have surely hurt the Russian economy but produced zero effect on that country’s relentless military destabilization of Ukraine.

And Obama has dithered more than a year now, with many more months to come apparently, over providing vital defensive weapons for Ukraine’s elected government to fight Russian-backed insurgents. Obama’s Codeword: Strategic Patience. Dmitry and Vlad are no doubt appreciative.” That sinister ‘flexibility’ Obama promised Russia finally emerges

Obama, Muslims, Jews, Israel and the Middle East

For Obama some lives matter more than others. “Now I live in an era when Barack Obama and so many others are trying to remind me and everyone post-Ferguson that #blacklivesmatter.  Well, they do and they always did, for me and a lot of other people. But somehow our president, regarding Iran, Israel and the events in Paris, seems to have forgotten its obvious corollary: #Jewishlivesmatter.  Until he gets that straight, I’ll be on the side of black people, but not for a second on his.” #JewishLivesMatter

“The president in his remarks informs the entire world, adversaries and friends alike, that we are not resolute, and not committed to victory over an identified enemy culture of atrocity and murder.” “The American left speaks with one voice to denigrate and dismiss any opinion they don’t agree with. It’s a way of diverting attention away from an unacceptable policy position from a man who, whether he likes it or not, is the leader of the free world. The survival of our values in large measure depends on the quality of his leadership. As such, he bears a greater responsibility in his statements than any of the talking heads who reflexively defend him.

When the president, in the same breath equates the actions of Christians during the Crusades 800 years ago with the atrocities of ISIS today, he has indeed, as I said, offended every believing Christian in the United States. The president may not like Christians, since many don’t vote for him or his party, but he represents them too, and they are entitled not to be used as a vehicle for his relentless world view that the United States is not exceptional, and no better than any other country.” Obama’s anti-American crusade comments: President offended Christians and undermined American leadership

Filling the vacuum left by Obama and his leftist travelers. 20,000 foreign fighters flock to Syria, Iraq to join terrorists

“In the rush to declare the war in Afghanistan over, the White House has made the uncomfortable discovery that … it isn’t. According to the Washington Post’s Missy Ryan, the plans for a full withdrawal from the theater has hit enough snags on the ground that it may get delayed — for the second time.” White House reconsidering pace of Afghanistan withdrawal — again.

“Less than inspiring.” “The Obama administration has conducted its reluctant and late-developing fight against ISIS since last fall under the auspice of the 2002 Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF) that allowed George W. Bush to invade and then occupy Iraq. Technically, that AUMF could continue in force, but Democrats have long wanted to scrap it — especially between June 2011 and August 2014, when Barack Obama kept insisting that he’d ended the war in Iraq. Obama himself has demanded a more tailored AUMF but has been reluctant to draft it, preferring to pass the political risk to the other side of Pennsylvania Avenue.

With Republicans in control on Capitol Hill, though, Obama finally had no choice but to offer his own proposal for the AUMF that he’s demanding. The White House finally released it today, and it’s less than inspiring. (snip)

The entire purpose of this is to keep the failing strategy in place, not just through January 2017, but for almost another year after Obama leaves office. Perhaps Obama isn’t as sanguine about Hillary Clinton’s electoral chances as are other Democrats and media analysts. At any rate, this new AUMF is neither necessary nor prudent, and Congress should refuse to bind the hands of the next President in favor of a war strategy that’s already failing.” Obama sends AUMF proposal for ISIS fight to Congress

From the comments at HotAir.com: “Give Obama credit. It takes a lot of skill to strengthen Al Qaeda’s hand in many different countries and advance the cause of Islamic fascism across the Middle East while appearing on the surface to be trying to do the opposite.” “Last month, I wrote that the hasty evac has become the hallmark of a Barack Obama foreign-policy “success.” That was specific to Yemen, where the Arab Spring policies that turned Libya, Syria, and Iraq into failed states and nearly did the same for Egypt had borne its same fruit in Sana’a after Houthi rebels seized the capital. Three years after the Obama administration and the West forced Ali Abdullah Saleh out of power, Yemen has become so chaotic that the embassies of the US, UK, and France are closing, and their personnel getting evacuated. (snip)

Say, aren’t those the very fellows we’re supposed to be fighting? Shouldn’t we be calculating our foreign policy so that we deny them ground for operation and expansion, rather than create failed states that allow them to thrive? That would truly be smart power, but this administration seems to be more interested in lofty speeches rather than strategic planning and application of power.

Now we’re on the retreat yet again from another Arab nation. Chalk up another Obama “success.”Abandon ship: West retreats from Yemen

“From the comments at Lucianne.com: First Psaki lies, saying this sit down was sponsored by Georgetown University. Then has to fess up that it involved State. Now the MB representative says that a representative from the White House participated. The Egyptians are beside themselves that this terrorist organization would be coddled by our highest levels, all the way up to the WH.” Muslim Brotherhood: White House Official Met Us at State Department

ISIS and Sharia In the U.s.

In Dallas. “ So do you have to be an Islamophobe bent on discriminating against little girls wearing hijabs in order to be concerned about these two imams setting up sharia shop in Dallas telling us to ignore the beheading behind the curtain? Based on the duplicity shown in their own interview with Glenn Beck earlier this week, there are already reasons to be concerned.

That said, should Muslims be allowed to exercise their religious liberties as freely as any other religion, and even operate their own courts of mediation and arbitration as other religions do? Of course, just as all of those other courts are in compliance with U.S. law and don’t violate public policy (e.g., by discriminating against women and other religions). All Americans should be free to express their views free from violence or any threat of violence. And we should say unequivocally that there is no carve-out exception for Islam, or any other religion or ideology for that matter, when it comes to complying with the Constitution.

But based on the explanations from these two imams already, the experience of how sharia courts are operating in other Western countries, how Islamic law itself is implemented throughout the Muslim world, and how virtually every school of Islamic jurisprudence at some points run counter to U.S. law and public policy, casting a skeptical eye on this enterprise seems warranted.” Sharia Court in Texas: What Could Go Wrong?

In Phoenix. “On February 4, 2015 the head of the FBI’s counterterrorism division, Michael Steinbach said that the FBI has seen children as young as 15 recruited by the Islamic State aka ISIS, ISIL. Two days later FBI Director James Comey said there are open cases looking into individuals who may be connected to ISIS in every state in the Union except Alaska. Evidence of the Islamic State’s successful recruiting efforts in America is literally written on the walls. Islamic State graffiti has appeared in Minneapolis, MN, Houston, TX, La Vegas, Nevada, Phoenix, AZ, Bakersfield, Ca, Washington, DC , Brooklyn, NY, and in many cities around the world. Followers of the U.S. designated terrorist group are showing their support in every form of graffiti from full color pieces to the graffiti genre of stickers; aka labels or slaps.” ISIS Is Here’: Islamic State Graffiti in America

Amnesty

This is how Obama will change the United States. He said it the other day. His goal is to completely drown out conservatives with new citizens who came from big government, failed socialist countries who want the same failure here. “The government expects so many applications for President Obama’s new deportation amnesty that it’s seeking a contractor just to open the new mail and enter the forms into the system, with plans to operate two shifts from 6 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. every workday to keep up with the anticipated workload.” Feds build bureaucracy to deal with Obama amnesty application onslaught: U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services expects 800,000 applications at outset

Brian Williams

Circling their wagons to protect their worldly bubble. “But it is instructive to watch Williams’s fellow media Olympians rally to his defense. They have an investment in a system that rewards celebrity so handsomely — and not just financially. They are the last beneficiaries of the Old Order, when nightly news anchors were cultivated to be “the voice of God,” as insiders at CBS used to call the position.” NBC’s Puffed Up Anchor: Surrounded by fans and protected from criticism, it’s no wonder Brian Williams became a serial fabulist.

More on why the wagons are being circled.“Media Elites Defend Brian Williams from ‘Bile Brigade,’” John Nolte writes at Big Journalism:

If you don’t already despise the elite media, the next few paragraphs should put the final pieces into place. No joke, some high-profile members of the elite media are now on their high horse (if you’ll pardon the expression) over the frenzied coverage of serial stolen valor liar Brian Williams.

In short, members of the elite media don’t think members of the elite media should be treated like members of the elite media treat everyone else.” Brian Williams Debacle Yet Another Reminder: Elite Media Despises Its Customers

They’re banking on our short memories. “NBC Universal tried to save Brian Williams’ job last night—and that’s why he was suspended for six months.

The company finally had to stop the bleeding, to halt the hemorrhaging of its own credibility along with that of its franchise player. (snip)

In the end, NBC had little choice. While weighing Williams’ career against the self-inflicted damage, it is now trying to split the difference. The challenge for the network and its sidelined anchor is to regain the trust of the audience—if that is still possible.” Why NBC’s suspension is Brian Williams’ last hope for remaining anchor

Common Core

Home schooling looking better and better every day. “Starr spoke to a standing-room-only audience at the local public library and fought back tears as she announced her retirement at the end of the current school year. “I can’t do it anymore, not in this ‘drill ‘em and kill ‘em’ atmosphere,” she said. “I don’t think anyone understands that in this environment if your child cannot quickly grasp material, study like a robot and pass all of these tests, they will not survive.”

“I have faith in my students, but my students are reading at sometimes a fourth- and fifth-grade reading level,” said Starr, who teaches 9th grade students. “Each and every day, I have to look in my students’ eyes and tell them I can’t help them because the state has decided they have to prove what they know.”

She said it’s hard for teachers because “the rules keep changing.”

Another teacher at the meeting said he understands her decision. “I’m like you. I feel like I have to get out,” said Jackie Conrad, a third grade teacher.” Gasps of Disbelief as ‘Live with Kelly and Michael’ Top Teacher Winner Resigns Over Common Core Testing

Hillary Clinton

From Palo Verde RW member Paula Linker, on Hillary hiding: “Looks like there may be some flies in Hill’s inevitable ointment. The Hillary’s Hiding campaign is aggressive. O’Mally seems to be the only potential candidate not eligible for social security. Bernie Sanders is probably just a stalking horse for E. Warren.”  “Hillary Clinton isn’t “running” for president.  She’s hiding from the press and hoping to use an occasional Tweet to effect an appearance of engagemeant with the world she helped hatter through four years at State.

Every would-be GOP nominee ought to be making this point, every day in every speech, and demanding that the press begin to pursue Hillary not just about her ambitions for 2016 but also about the news that flashes across our screen every night –news undeniably connected to the world she helped “craft” for President Obama.  Ukraine, Syria and Iraq are the obvious subjects on which she should be pressed, but she ought also to be asked about every current controversy, such as if she agrees that the targeting of a kosher deli was random, or if she supports the emerging “deal” with Iran.  She ought to be asked about everything: She wants to be president.” Reince Priebus And The RNC Put The Focus On Hillary”s Silence Of The Sham

She’s been missing for a while. “The Republican National Committee has compiled some data on Hillary’s time in hiding:

  • Days since last press conference: 202
  • Days since she’s done an interview: 184
  • Days since she’s been in Iowa: 103
  • Days since she’s been in New Hampshire: 100
  • Days since she’s done an event that didn’t require significant speaking fees: 69

Where might Hillary be hiding? Can you help us find her?” Where’s Hillary?

Uh oh. “Populist groups cheering “Run Warren Run,” today released 2016 election polls from Iowa and New Hampshire showing Sen. Elizabeth Warren ahead of dominant Democrat Hillary Clinton.

The YouGov poll of likely Democratic voters for MoveOn.org and Democracy for America also found that 79 percent want Warren and majorities support her anti-Wall Street positions.” Shock poll: Warren leads Clinton in Iowa, N.H.

The Internet

Thank goodness for this brave man. “That, at least, is what Ajit Pai, one of the FCC’s two Republican commissioners, is claiming.

He says FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler has a “secret plan to regulate the Internet” that “opens the door to billions of dollars in new taxes” on broadband services.

“I have studied the 332-page plan in detail, and it is worse than I imagined,” he said, adding that “the public has a right to know what its government is doing, particularly when it comes to something as important as Internet regulation.” FCC Keeps Its ‘Open Internet’ Plan Hidden From View

You can bet who will get scrutinized more, and won’t be anyone on the left. IRS scandal anyone? “Democratic Chairwoman Ann Ravel, who called the hearing, has said she wants to regulate politicking on the Internet, though she has pulled back amid a public outcry, especially among conservatives who see her move as a bid to silence center-right websites and Internet based conservative groups and news sites.” Dems on FEC open to new regs on donors, Internet

Emphasis mine. “TheDC: Previous attempts at regulating the internet have been shot down in the courts, why is it that this one seems to be a little scarier than the last ones?

PAI: Two different reasons. One is the unprecedented involvement of the executive branch in our decision-making.  Traditionally the FCC has been an independent agency that, even though I and the other chairmen are appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate, we’re considered to be independent and render expert objective judgment about some of these difficult policy questions.

Here what you have is the president in an unprecedented way saying explicitly, “Not only do I want the FCC to do XY and Z, but this is the legal theory I want them to use to support it.” I think once that announcement was made, the trajectory of how our decision-making was proceeding, I think the writing was on the wall and the FCC felt like it was under enormous pressure to do what the president wanted us to do. And so that’s one fact.” FCC Commissioner: ‘Unprecedented Involvement Of Executive Branch In Our Decision-Making’

Obamacare

Key take away: “More expensive, while insuring fewer people.” What the heck?!?!?!?! “Taxpayers, however, should worry. A closer look at the CBO’s numbers shows that Obamacare is growing much more expensive — and disruptive.

The CBO now expects Obamacare to cover far fewer uninsured than it previously thought. In a March 2011 report, the nonpartisan agency predicted that Obamacare would extend coverage to 34 million uninsured by 2021. It has since downgraded that number to 27 million — and concluded that Obamacare will leave 31 million Americans without insurance.

So the law’s overall price tag has declined only because it’s covering fewer people.” Buried In The Numbers: Obamacare’s Costs Are Climbing, Not Receding

From the comments: “News flash Mr. Prez…of course, this involves economics, which is beyond your scope of understanding. Publicly traded companies don’t answer to you…they answer to their shareholders and customers. If someone doesn’t like the employment conditions, they are free to leave. Also, if they make billions in profits, they are probably paying a boatload of taxes for you to redistribute…so you can shame them all you want…it is NONE of your business. Of course, you are importing third world illegal labor, perhaps you can encourage them to hire illegals…eh?” “President Obama doesn’t sympathize with companies that are cutting part-time hours to keep workers under the threshold of the 30-hour work week, thanks to Obamacare.

In an interview with Buzzfeed’s Ben Smith, Obama took issue with a story about the office supply company Staples threatening to fire workers who work more than 25 hours a week.

“I haven’t looked at Staples stock lately or what the compensation of the CEO is, but I suspect that they could well afford to treat their workers favorably and give them some basic financial security,” he said. “And if they can’t, then they should be willing to allow those workers to get the Affordable Care Act without cutting wages.” OBAMA LECTURES STAPLES FOR LIMITING PART TIME HOURS: ’SHAME ON THEM’

Political Parties

A really interesting history lesson! “Conservatism as we know it today did not really exist before the twentieth century. Prior to that, it was just the way things were done. The powers of the federal government were limited, states and localities were dominant, and people did not look to Washington DC to solve every last problem. Granted, the scope of federal power increased during the nineteenth century—for example, during the Civil War—but conservatives today are wont to celebrate those expansions.

Conservatism as we know it today did not really exist before the twentieth century. Prior to that, it was just the way things were done.

Conservatism really began to develop as a political force in the wake of the New Deal, which effectively inverted the constitutional schema. Previously, the federal government was only allowed to do what the Constitution expressly authorized. From the New Deal onwards, the government could more or less do anything that the Constitution did not expressly forbid. This inversion gave birth to the conservative movement.

Eventually, American conservatism found a home in the Republican Party, where it now almost exclusively resides. But the GOP predates the conservative movement by nearly a century, and has long been home to a very different political tradition.” The Republican Party Is Not Your Friend: The roots of the Republican Party’s conservative-establishment divide, revealed.

Contrary to the picture the mainstream media is attempting to paint.A little something for your bookmarks folder, so that you have it handy the next time someone in the media assures you that vaccine skepticism is a “Republican problem.” Pew: Republicans slightly more likely than Democrats to say measles vaccine is safe

Stories of the Day

The Real Purpose of Obama’s Unconstitutional and Illegal Immigration Policy

Say goodbye to America as we know her. And it’s intentional. Just see the article I posted below where Obama hopes his immigration policy will drown out conservatives. Emphasis mine. “President Obama’s new border security plan is being expanded to allow illegals in the United States to bring their children, their adult children, their grandchildren and even step-parents into the United States.” Obama Expands Immigration Via Border Security Plan

From the comments over at Lucianne.com: “This has been the dream of the left since 1965. To flood the country with third world immigrants that would buy into their warped socialist vision. Obama thinks they are close to victory.” Obama “Hopeful” Immigration

There, Obama finally speaks the truth about his immigration polices. He and his fellow leftist travelers are going to turn us into the countries that these immigrants are escaping, and they are too ignorant to realize it. Emphasis mine. “The spread of vibrant social diversity is constricting the GOP’s ability to champion conservative causes, such as smaller government and independent families, President Barack Obama said in a softball media interview.

“Over the long term, I’m pretty optimistic, and the reason is because this country just becomes more and more of a hodgepodge of folks,” Obama told Vox editor Ezra Klein.

“People are getting more and more comfortable with the diversity of this country, much more sophisticated about both the cultural differences but more importantly, the basic commonality that we have,” he said in his talk, which was recorded Jan 23.

But for Obama, “commonality” is a go-to euphemism for big, intrusive, nation-wide government by progressive experts.” Obama “Hopeful” Immigration Will Drown Conservatism

Those Leftist Universities

See story above, because this is another reason why Obama must flood the country with new leftists from other leftist countries where leftist policies aren’t working. “I conclude that campus leftists are but a pale imitation of the leftists of earlier times. Which is, I think, one of many indicators of the decline of liberalism into irrelevance.” STUDENT SIT-INS: NOT WHAT THEY USED TO BE

Remember, this is the university system headed by leftist Janet Napolitano. She’s the chancellor of the University of California. And these universities are teaching are children to be hard leftists. “Most maps show that California is part of the United States. That would make, by a fairly airtight chain of reasoning, the University of California also part of the United States.

Although not if its Student Association has anything to say about it. Not satisfied merely to urge divestment from Israel, as is the trend on campuses around the country, the Student Association board has voted to divest from the United States itself, in an act that is a mashup of Noam Chomsky and a Monty Python skit.” California’s Divestment Disgrace: UC students want vote to divest from their own country.

Brian Williams vs. Hillary Clinton

Personally I don’t see how he can stay. He’s a liar. “NBC News’s senior executives are deeply divided about the fate of Brian Williams, the Nightly News anchor currently on leave for telling tall tales about his time in Iraq and, potentially, in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina.

At a meeting over the weekend at the New York City home of NBC Universal CEO Steve Burke, network executives huddled to decide Williams’s fate, but they emerged with little agreement on a path forward. The division is reflective of the broader disarray within NBC News.” NBC News Execs Divided on Brian Williams’s Fate

It really depends on who is doing the lying! “After all, she told essentially the same lie. Isn’t a presidential candidate more important than a newscaster?

Yes, and that’s why her nearly identical lie will be winked at: the Democrats need her (they have no viable alternative), and at this point we seem to expect politicians to lie.” If Brian Williams has to go,… …then why not Hillary?

A good question with an EASY answer. Hillary is a Democrat. She speaks the politically correct leftist narrative. Sharyl Attkisson: Why Did Hillary Survive a Brian Williams-like Tale?

Emphasis mine.“I bring this up because it explains why Brian Williams’ trustworthiness doesn’t matter, why the trustworthiness of television (and newspaper) “journalists” no longer matters in general, and why the internet upended them and rendered them obsolete. It’s not merely one technology replacing another. Mainstream journalists could maintain their authority amidst the noise…  if they just didn’t lie all the time. All. The. Time. It’s because they don’t tell the truth that we don’t trust them. They keep silent about what they don’t want us to know (say, the IRS scandal) and overplay what they want us to care about (the Valerie Plame non-scandal). And what Dowd’s column demonstrates is: They don’t even know what the truth is! They all live happily together in a foggy wonderland of left-wing mythology where its ALL Brian Williams under RPG fire all the time.” It’s Brian Williams All the Way Down

Obama and the Burning World

We need more voices speaking like this. “We live in an age of moral idiocy. Moral equivalence is the Left’s way of resisting fighting evil. It did it during the Cold War with the U.S. and the Soviet Union, and it is doing it now when it morally equates all religions and societies. Take, for example, this imbecilic equation by writer Ta-Nehisi Coates in The Atlantic, defending the president’s comments on Islam and Christianity by invoking slavery: “Americans have done, on their own soil, in the name of their own God, something similar to what ISIS is doing now.”

There is a major moral crisis in one religion on earth today — Islam. To say so is not to get on a high horse. It is to identify violent Islam as the greatest evil in the world since Nazism and Communism.” Obama’s Moral Idiocy: His Crusades comparison is typical of the Left’s delusions.

“Obama lies proactively.” “Unlike Nixon and Clinton, who lied in self-defense, Obama lies proactively, which is decidedly more dangerous.  He will say practically anything to achieve his goals without regard to the truth.  The repeated assertion about keeping your doctor and your health insurance under the Affordable Care Act is just one famous example.  But only a few days ago on Fareed Zakaria’s show the president made a statement that dwarfed his claims about Obamacare.  When asked if we were in a war with radical Islam, the president replied:

….I reject a notion that somehow that creates a religious war because the overwhelming majority of Muslims reject that interpretation of Islam. They don’t even recognize it as being Islam, and I think that for us to be successful in fighting this scourge, it’s very important for us to align ourselves with the 99.9 percent of Muslims who are looking for the same thing we’re looking for — order, peace, prosperity.

99.9 percent?!  I will bypass for the moment Obama’s rather self-serving definition of Islam and focus on that outrageous  number, which is absurd on the face of it and not remotely supported by any of the numerous polls on the subject.” Obama’s Biggest Lie and What It Means

Because he doesn’t. And even folks who voted for him are starting to notice.  68% Say Obama Has No Clear Islamic State Strategy

Obama doesn’t want anything reported on that reflects poorly on him. And most of those in the press comply. “The fact is that Obama has consistently downplayed the threat posed by terrorists, only to be promptly and spectacularly discredited by events. A little over year ago, he called ISIS “the jayvee.” Not long thereafter, ISIS controlled territory in Syria and Iraq the size of Belgium, if not the United Kingdom, and Obama deployed substantial (albeit grossly insufficient) U.S. military assets to combat the jayvee.

Iraq and Syria aren’t the only hot spots in which Obama has been mugged by reality. In the speech announcing his decision finally to take on ISIS, Obama touted America’s success in “taking the fight” to al Qaeda in Yemen. Even as he spoke, the situation in Yemen was deteriorating, leaving our ability to “take the fight” to al Qaeda in serious doubt.

Obama, then, has no standing to opine on whether the media is “overstating” the threat posed by terrorism. Nor, as noted, does he offer any evidence that supports the view that it’s doing so.” IF IT BLEEDS IT LEADS. . .TO DENIAL BY OBAMA

New Times as propaganda machine again. “Jindal, of course, is right: it is an invasion, consciously orchestrated by the Saudis and abetted by the Muslim sympathizer in the White House. Naturally, the Times can’t let such truth-telling stand, and so — carrying Obama’s water, as usual — it comes up with this apologia:

No matter how anxious people may be about Islam, the notion of a Muslim invasion of this majority Christian country has no basis in fact. Moreover, there is an inconvenient footnote to the assertion that Islam is anti-American: Muslims arrived here before the founding of the United States — not just a few, but thousands.

They have been largely overlooked because they were not free to practice their faith. They were not free themselves and so they were for the most part unable to leave records of their beliefs. They left just enough to confirm that Islam in America is not an immigrant religion lately making itself known, but a tradition with deep roots here, despite being among the most suppressed in the nation’s history.

Oh, for God’s sake: seeing conspiracies everywhere, the modern anti-American Left now simply asserts as fact something that is prima facie risible — in this case, that Muslims have had any meaningful role in the foundation of the United States of America.” Annals of Dhimmitude: New York Times Celebrates Early America’s ‘Islamic Roots’: ‘Islam in America is not an immigrant religion lately making itself known, but a tradition with deep roots here’

Will they make the students recite the Lord’s Prayer too?Ron Wagner, a Florida father, said his son’s world history book has gone too far with a lesson that teaches Muhammad is the messenger of God.

One part of the book, for instance, reads: “There is no god, but God. Muhammad is the messenger of God,” he said, quoting from his son’s Lyman High School history book, WFTV reported.

“Students were instructed to recite this prayer as the first Pillar of Islam, off of the board at the teacher’s instruction,” Mr. Wagner said. “For it to be mandatory and part of the curriculum and in the textbooks, didn’t seem right.” Florida father furious at school lesson: ‘Muhammad is the messenger of God’

Clinging to his leftist world view until the very end. “But once again, in total cognitive dissonance, total denial, Obama couldn’t say the accurate “Muslim violent, vicious zealots who behead people who are not Muslim or deliberately shoot Jews in a Jewish store in Paris all in the name of Islam”  just as he can’t admit Muslims deliberately crashed planes in the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and in the fields of Pennsylvania in the name of Islam on September 11, 2001 or a Muslim psychiatrist slaughtered 12 Armed Forces personnel and injured more while shouting “allahu akbar,” the Muslim god is greater in the name of Islam!  He termed the latter incident “workplace violence.”

To admit the truth would undermine Obama’s foundational view of the world and all that flows from it.” Unrandom acts of terrorism

Equating terrorism to graffiti. “Gone are the days when were allowed to make (appropriate) distinctions between peaceful and radical Islam. Now we’re supposed to accept that these string of events are executed by aimless zealots, detached from any tradition or faith. Random. We are supposed to believe that this problem can be dealt with, as the president notes, in “the same way a big city mayor’s got to cut the crime rate down if he wants that city to thrive.”

Dealing with political Islam is just like getting rid of graffiti and waiting for gentrification. You know, if only Saudi Arabia had a few extra bucks laying around, we’d rid the world of all of these delinquents.” There’s Nothing ‘Random’ About Islamic Terrorism, Mr. President: Acknowledging who the victims of Islamic terrorism are means acknowledging its motivations

We need to start being brave. Or we’re going to  lose to the left, and then we’ll be just like every other country in the world. “So I was curious to hear Star Parker, who was at the prayer breakfast, speak about her experience when she was a guest on Hannity’s program:

…I was in that room and it was frankly verbal rape because we were not expecting it. Nobody wanted it. It was horrible to sit through. And after it was over, we all felt like crap…he pulled the air out of the room….

I like Star Parker. But I would like to ask her and every single person who was in attendance: Why did you sit through that? Why did you remain in a room where the speaker was insulting your faith? Why did you allow yourself to be verbally raped, as you put it? (snip)

In the case of the National Prayer Breakfast, it would have been a powerful statement if every person in attendance had walked out. Instead of feeling like Obama had sucked all the air out of the room, it would have turned the tables and sucked the air out of his speech, his time, his platform.

It would have been a powerful statement where a single word need not have been spoken. Just the turning away. The exit. Leaving Obama with an empty room.

And if some members of the audience felt compelled to cry out before exiting, “You lie!” that would have been appropriate, too.

But in these perilous times, an insidious kind of weakness and cowardess has taken hold of far too many in the populace.” Which is more disturbing: Obama’s speech at the prayer breakfast or the audience response?

Some Good News You Can Use

Good news for those who love a little potato with their butter! “Guidelines that told millions of people to avoid butter and full-fat milk should never have been introduced, say experts.

The startling assertion challenges advice that has been followed by the medical profession for 30 years.

The experts say the advice from 1983, aimed at reducing deaths from heart disease, lacked any solid trial evidence to back it up.” Butter ISN’T bad for you after all: Major study says 80s advice on dairy fats was flawed

Conservatives

I’m all for it. “Meanwhile, the Left seems stuck in the failed policies of the mid 20th century. Barack Obama’s recent tax proposal was a classic example: Sock it to the wealthy, and spend the money on new entitlements, plus a huge payoff to profligate state governments and unions via new infrastructure spending. In Obama’s world, it is always 1935.

Conservatives are the ones coming up with new ideas on how to improve the fortunes of middle-class America — but, as it stands, the plans are incomplete. A comprehensive strategy to boost the middle class has to include an aggressive assault on political corruption.” It’s Time for Conservatives to Fight Corruption: Crony capitalism, subsidies, tax breaks, and corporate welfare all hit the middle class hardest

The Economy

Leftist policies never help who the elites say it will. “The public also isn’t buying Obama’s claim that his “middle class economics” policies are succeeding, despite the fact that Obama has barnstormed the country over the past three weeks making this case.” Economic Optimism Index Dives Among Middle Class: Poll

Elections

More on what I shared with you yesterday. “But as Judis writes now, that coalition has come apart. That’s partly because of diminished support from Millennials and Hispanics, but mostly because of additional white working-class defections and erosion among suburbanites unhappy with higher government spending and taxes.

In fact, he now says that the majority he predicted endured for only two elections.” The Democratic Majority that Wasn’t: Predictions of long-lasting electoral dominance have given way to a more sobering reality.

Freedom

We’re a republic, but only if we’re willing to do what we need to do to keep it!  And some states are taking some of those necessary steps. “State legislators around the country have introduced more than 200 bills aiming to nullify regulations and laws coming out of Washington, D.C., as they look to rein in the federal government.

The legislative onslaught, which includes bills targeting federal restrictions on firearms, experimental treatments and hemp, reflects growing discord between the states and Washington, state officials say.

“You have a choice,” said Kentucky state Rep. Diane St. Onge (R). “To sit back and not do anything or say anything and let overregulation continue — or you have the alternative choice to speak up about it and say, ‘We know what you are doing or intend to do and we do not think that it is constitutional and we as a state are not going to stand for it.’ ”  States rise up against Washington

The Internet

Repeat after me: The government doesn’t always know best. “Ajit Pai, the sole Republican Commissioner on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), inferred in a Tweet that President Barack Obama’s secret, 332-page “Net Neutrality” document is a scheme for federal micro-managing of the Internet to extract billions in new taxes from consumers and again enforce progressives’ idea of honest, equitable, and balanced content fairness.

FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler recently acknowledged that the two Democrats on the commission had decided to avoid Congressional input regarding the Internet by adopting President Franklin Roosevelt’s 1934 Communications Act to regulate the Internet with the same federal control as the old AT&T customer monopoly. To make sure that libertarian advocates would remain in the dark, Wheeler “embargoed” release of any of the specifics in the new administrative “policy” that will act as law.” REPUBLICAN FCC MEMBER WARNS NET NEUTRALITY IS NOT NEUTRAL

Power grab from the most transparent administration EVER. “The secrecy surrounding the Obama administration’s plans for regulating the Internet has prompted a congressional inquiry into whether the independent Federal Communications Commission or the White House and its allies are calling the shots over the future of the nation’s broadband networks.” Congress Looking Into White House’s Role in FCC’s Net Neutrality Regulations: Draft of regulations being hidden from public

The mainstream media hiding this too. “Despite its importance, the broadcast news networks’ morning and evening shows dedicated only three minutes, 38 seconds of coverage to these potential regulations over the Internet since Obama’s announcement November 10, 2014 through February 9, 2015. Moreover, none of the stories included any critics of the plan. By way of contrast, the networks spent 67 minutes, 49 seconds covering the “Deflategate” scandal during less than one week in January, nearly 19 times more than net neutrality over a period of almost three months. Phil Kerpen, President of American Commitment, told MRC Business, “There has been almost no coverage of the president strong-arming what is supposed to be an independent agency, or the highly questionable policy he has proposed that would reverse the past two decades of Internet policy and install a heavy-handed regulate-and-tax alternative.”Nets Barely Cover Obama’s Internet Regulations

Unlawful power grab misleads the people by giving the federal government complete control, increases monthly broad band bills, slows down broad band speed, while hurting  competition and innovation.  Republican FCC Commissioner Slams ‘Obama’s 332-Page Plan To Regulate The Internet’

The IRS

What is Obama hiding from us? “The Obama administration is refusing to publicly release more than 500 documents on the IRS’s targeting of Tea Party groups.

Twenty months after the IRS scandal broke, there are still many unanswered questions about who was spearheading the agency’s scrutiny of conservative-leaning organizations.

The Hill sought access to government documents that might provide a glimpse of the decision-making through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.” Obama administration won’t release IRS targeting documents

Keep digging Republicans. Because this must be really bad for Obama if the administration is going to such lengths to stonewall the investigation. “Maybe Congress should warn Treasury and Justice about scammers pretending to be investigators rather than pawns in a stalling game for the White House. Now that the GOP has control of the Senate, they can haul a few officials up to Capitol Hill and demand those same documents that The Hill couldn’t pry loose, and see what this investigation has taken 20 months doing, exactly.” Obama administration stonewalls FOIA request on IRS targeting scandal

Stop the stonewalling. “The latest batch of emails obtained by Judicial Watch (it’s the second) is far from complete. The production consists of 34 pages of heavily redacted emails. DOJ admits that it reviewed 938 pages of responsive records related to this production. All told, the DOJ has reviewed 1,772 pages of records in this case, but only produced 36 heavily redacted pages.

Nonetheless, the newly released documents provide the first real glimpse into the Justice Department’s criminal investigation of the IRS targeting scandal. The picture isn’t pretty. As Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton says:

These documents show that the Obama IRS Counsel’s office, run by an Obama political appointee, was stonewalling a federal criminal investigation. And only in the Holder Justice Department would it be deemed appropriate that the offices implicated in the IRS abuses should investigate the IRS abuses. . . .

This is an ugly mess and it is no surprise that, after nearly two years, the criminal investigation of the Obama IRS by its co-conspirators at the Obama Justice Department is widely acknowledged as a farce.

No wonder the House Oversight Committee plans to press on with its probe of this scandal.” NEW EMAILS SHOW IRS STALLED CRIMINAL PROBE OF TARGETING

The Left

I am not sure there are enough Americans that are waking up to the faux outrage generated by the lefts media, universities and Hollywood. “Manufacturing outrage is the modus operandi of Obama and Democrats.  Liberal media are their tools.  The result has been destruction, pain and murder.  And the worse is yet to come.

The last six years have seen an explosion of faux controversies generated by Democrats.  Aside from political ads attacking opponents (Paul Ryan pushing grandma and her wheelchair off a cliff; Romney as a bully, homophobe, dog abuser and carcinogenic (I may have missed a few calumnies).  Before those defamations, it was Sarah Palin who endured unceasing attacks.  And before that it was Obama’s two opponents for the Senate who were targets of ginned up outrage. (snip)

The good news is that Americans have finally begun to realize they have been manipulated.  Democrats manufacture outrage, but like most tools it has begun to wear out its usefulness.  Americans have learned that where there is smoke there is not necessarily fire — in fact, it might just be smoke blown in our faces.

The resounding defeat of Democrats in November was a sign of better things to come, one hopes.” Manufacturing Outrage

President Obama

Our juvenile president. “Critics used to say they opposed Obama’s redistributionist programs, but conceded that he must be a pleasant guy. Supporters lamented Obama’s frequent inattention to detail but reminded everyone how charismatic the president was. Both diagnoses are probably mistaken. Snarkery is a character flaw of thin-skinned insecurity and juvenile mean-spiritedness — and embarrassing in a president.” Snarker-in-Chief: No one — least of all the American people — is exempt from our president’s snark.

no big government

Stories of the Day

Dennis Prager, on his radio show today, said that there is one word that describes why he fears the left: Universities.” And here’s another reason why…  Emphasis mine. “Think about that. If they had their way, the student government of the U. Cal. system would require divestment from U.S. Treasuries and most of the world,” Cornell University law Professor William Jacobson points out on Legal Insurrection, responding to the vote. “The U. Cal. student government has proven a point I’ve made repeatedly in terms of the academic boycott: If you are going to boycott Israel, then you need to apply those standards to the whole world, which will result in boycotting yourselves.”

“I’m not glad that the Israel divestment passed, but at least it passed combined with a resolution which made the anti-Israel students and U. Cal student government look like fools.” UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA STUDENT GOVERNMENT PASSES RESOLUTION TO DIVEST – FROM AMERICA

This is what happens when Obama decides to take over another business: this time Student Loans. “Debt: Having spent years chastising bankers for making risky loans, President Obama is now responsible for a $22 billion shortfall in the student loan program. Guess it’s not risky to gamble with other people’s money.

Politico has uncovered what it rightly calls a bombshell hidden in the fiscal 2016 budget that Obama proposed on Monday: The federal student loan program “had a $21.8 billion shortfall last year, apparently the largest ever recorded for any government credit program.”

That, Politico’s Michael Grunwald notes, is bigger than the entire budget for NASA, the Interior Department and the EPA.

Obama can’t blame President Bush for this one, since it’s a direct result of his determination to have the government take over the student loan business.” Obama’s Student-Loan Debacle

Oh the lies Obama’s government tells. “We at IBD often get lambasted for our gloomy take on the monthly jobs data that emerge from the government. After all, if the government puts it out, it can’t be inaccurate, can it? And it must be honest, right?

Well, we’re not alone in casting aspersions on the dicey employment numbers. As we’ve said many times, properly measured, the current unemployment rate is somewhere north of 10% — depending on how you slice the numbers.

Now, in an unprecedented column on the Gallup website, Gallup CEO Jim Clifton rips into the government’s jobs data in a piece not so subtly titled: “The Big Lie: 5.6% Unemployment.”

In it, Clifton calls the Labor Department jobs data “extremely misleading” and scores the White House, Wall Street and the media for their incessant cheerleading on the official decline in unemployment from around 10% to the current 5.6%.

“Right now,” says Clifton, “as many as 30 million Americans are either out of work or severely unemployed. Trust me, the vast majority of them aren’t throwing parties to toast ‘falling’ unemployment.” The 5.6% Unemployment Rate Is A ‘Big Lie,’ Gallup Boss Says

Emphasis mine. “It’s long past time Mr. Obama get off his high horse. Vanity is difficult to take in anyone–but it’s especially difficult to take in a person of such staggering incompetence and intellectual shallowness.” Get Off Your High Horse, Mr. Obama

More on Obama’s incompetence. “A liberal friend pained over the rampant failures of liberal government makes an observation: “Barack Obama and Bill de Blasio are both learning to shave on our whiskers.”

The image is priceless, the insight wise. Their lack of experience in how the world works, and their ignorance of such basic knowledge as meeting a payroll, are proving to be fatal flaws for our president and mayor.” De Blasio and Obama’s lack of experience

The President’s Budget

I think he thinks money grows on trees. “President Obama has released his FY 2016 budget, an act that fulfills a legal requirement but otherwise has only political significance. It is notable how much attention is being given in the press to a document that has no possibility of resulting in legislation.

Still, the budget is revealing in some ways. In the big picture, it confirms–if confirmation were needed–that Democrats have no vision for the future other than ever-higher spending and ever-growing debt. For them, there is no such thing as “enough.” Spending is an end in itself, because spending means writing checks and people who cash government checks, or work for companies that are dependent on government checks. are likely to vote for Democrats. If you are a Democrat, that is all there is to it, and if our children have no future, that is someone else’s problem.” OBSERVATIONS ON PRESIDENT OBAMA’S BUDGET

To a whole lot of us, he’s always been an emperor with no clothes. “Third, the release of the president’s surreal, liberal dream-budget gives us a government blueprint that shows what he would do if he were King of America. It is almost Chavez-like in its confiscation of wealth, higher taxes, new borrowing and uninhibited spending. Obama wants to reach into the pockets of U.S. companies everywhere, raise taxes on just about every form of wealth and spend more and more on social schemes that corral citizens into the care of the state and freely heap new debt on future generations.” The Insiders: Obama’s week of jaw-dropping follies

“Under Obama’s proposed new tax, major American companies would start to flee America, reincorporating or merging with foreign companies to become non-American, to stop the tax thievery.  The U.S. government would then have to respond with new, punishing, tax penalties to stop that. This has all already begun to happen under current law, even before Obama’s new proposed tax.

The resulting, growing chaos would not be good for the American economy, or the middle class or working people.” Obama’s Budget: Beware the “Berlin Wall” tax

“Americans are addicted to living beyond their means, at least when it comes to the functions of government. That’s why the federal debt tripled over the past decade and under President Barack Obama’s budget plan would keep growing indefinitely.” Government Debt on the Road to Ruin

“Economic Policy: President Obama says it’s time to end the “mindless austerity” and start spending again. This from the man who’s alone added $6.7 trillion to the nation’s debt.

‘I want to work with Congress,” Obama said in releasing his fiscal 2016 budget, “to replace mindless austerity with smart investments.”

Mindless austerity? The only austerity seen in the past six years has been in the minds of liberals for whom more federal spending is never enough. Austerity, after all, implies higher taxes and deep spending cuts to reduce deficits.” Obama Complains About ‘Mindless Austerity’ While Bankrupting The Country

Obama and Foreign PolicY

It’s what leftists like Obama do—they just can’t help themselves. “In his recent trip to India, President Obama repeated a long-standing pattern of his — denigrating the United States to foreign audiences. He said that he had been discriminated against because of his skin color in America, a country in which there is, even now, “terrible poverty.”

Make no mistake about it, there is no society of human beings in which there are no rotten people. But for a President of the United States to be smearing America in a foreign country, whose track record is far worse, is both irresponsible and immature.” OBAMA VERSUS AMERICA: At over opportunity abroad he denigrates his own country.

“The president knows as little about history as he does about warfare, and even less about religion. But he’s not alone. With the Left’s successful destruction of history instruction in our schools and universities, even “well-educated” creatures of Washington accept the Arab fantasy that the cultural incompetence, practical indolence, and spiritual decay of the entire Middle East stems from Richard Coeur de Lion’s twelfth-century swordplay.

Stop it! All of you! And try reading a book or two on the subject. Meanwhile, here’s a starter course in the vast tragedy jihad has posed for every civilization it’s touched for the past 14 centuries — while the Crusades mythologized by Islam’s apologists were a two-century blip whose only practical legacies are a few ruined castles.” Jihadis 14, Crusaders 2: The president perverts history (again).

Our president truly is delusional. “The news media “absolutely” overstates the risks of terrorism because stories about things like climate change aren’t “sexy” and don’t drive ratings, President Obama said in an interview published Monday. (snip)

“It’s not a sexy story,” Obama said. “And climate change is one that is happening at such a broad scale and at such a complex system, it’s a hard story for the media to tell on a day-to-day basis.” Obama: News outlets hype terror threat

Scary stuff. Emphasis mine. “WASHINGTON – The former director of the Defense Intelligence Agency described President Obama’s strategy to fight ISIS as “confusion.”

Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who retired last year as the agency’s head, compared the lack of clear direction to a football team not knowing where to go when they break from a huddle.

“I feel like when we say ‘ready, break,’ every player on the team is going off into other stadiums, playing different sports,” Flynn said on Fox News Sunday.” Ex-DIA director says Obama‘s ISIS strategy is ‘confusion’

Uh oh. Emphasis mine. “I will close by repeating the larger point I’ve argued several times before. We know from experience that when jihadists have safe havens, they attack the United States. They now have more safe havens than they’ve ever had before — not just because of what the Islamic State has accomplished in what used to be Syria and Iraq (the map of the Middle East needs updating) but because of what al-Qaeda has done there and in North Africa, what the Taliban and al-Qaeda are doing in Afghanistan, and so on.” What Is the Islamic State Trying to Accomplish? There is a method to their barbarism.

It’s going to be a long “two more years.” “A reality-based national security strategy might go something like this: “In my presidency, forces have been unleashed in the Middle East that have disrupted the American-led world order forged in the aftermath of World War II. While it’s possible that an infusion of American troops could deter Sunni and Shiite extremists, I was elected twice with a promise to end wars, and I doubt the American people have the stomach for this kind of commitment. So we are just going to have to accept a less-stable Middle East, where leaders and citizens who share and cherish our values will be under constant threat and in perpetual retreat.”

Instead, the new strategy is a rich stew of feel-good euphemism. As the New York Times reported, the word “lead,” “leadership” or some variation appears nearly 100 times. The word “Islam” is only mentioned twice. There is a lot of “training” and “equipping.” Rest assured, our “efforts” are almost always “comprehensive.” Obama’s Middle East Fantasy

Some incite into leftist ideology regarding foreign policy. “Keep these themes in mind, and the last six years will make better sense. The Middle East is not a mess, but a place in a needed stage of transition as it frees itself from Western domination and a new order slowly emerges. To the degree that we need a large military, it is preferable to envision it as an executive agency for enacting social change without the clumsy impediment of Congress, especially in terms of race, women’s issues, and gender preferences. It can do the best work for stability abroad by shrinking itself. Terrorism is in the eye of the beholder and always a relative concept that Westerners pathologically insist is absolute. As far as the world abroad goes, China is a more authentic enterprise than Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, which are the products of U.S. Cold War nation-building in our own image, not of indigenous revolutionary self-creation. U.S. Cold War culpability — in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa, South America, Cuba — is a burden that must be addressed through various means. The rules of nuclear proliferation are a Western construct. Israel is an abnormality, a Western outpost of capitalism and privilege where it has never really belonged, an irritant that should be treated like any other country as much as politically possible. Latin American grass-roots socialism is not Stalinism, but rather an extension of what Obama is trying to do at home.

I think the world now seems a chaotic place only if you assume that the Obama administration wished to be like its predecessors.” Obama Does Have a Strategy: Once you see what he is trying to accomplish, it all makes sense.

“People in the White House are micromanaging the tactical situation on a daily and weekly basis. That is not their job. They have to do strategic planning, and say what do we want to accomplish in the next year. (snip)

Susan Rice, it must be specified, is a known fabulist. She spun the tale that the Mohammed video was responsible for the attack on the Benghazi diplomatic facility, contrary to facts that were known at the time. And she maintained that Bowe Bergdahl “served with distinction.”

This is a scandal, and the nation is in peril. So far, nary a ripple in the mainstream media.” Stunning: Bob Woodward alleges Susan Rice micromanaging the generals

“Susan Rice, best known for claiming the Benghazi attacks were a spontaneous reaction to an Internet film and that Bowe Bergdahl served with honor and distinction, today outlined the Obama Administration’s national security strategy:

But, too often, what’s missing here in Washington is a sense of perspective.  Yes, there’s a lot going on.  Still, while the dangers we face may be more numerous and varied, they are not of the existential nature we confronted during World War II or the Cold War.  We can’t afford to be buffeted by alarmism and an instantaneous news cycle.  We must continue to do the hard work of leading a complex and rapidly evolving world, of seizing opportunities, and of winning the future for our children.” SUSAN RICE WOULDN’T KNOW AN EXISTENTIAL THREAT IF IT SCREAMED “ALLAHU AKBAR!”

“Yet in the end Obama may be vindicated.  If the last 6 years prove anything, it is the ease with which he can convince his voter base that his actions so far have been eminently successful. Since the difference between winning and losing turns out to be only a few letters in spelling, there’s a chance that he can do it again with the right sales pitch.

Those who think this impossible note how easily Susan Rice can utter the phrase “strategic patience” with a straight face.  As if it explained everything. And yet by some magic, for millions it will. These two words can be offered — and accepted — as the secret plan behind the failure of the Russian reset, the Arab Spring, the rise of ISIS, the pivot to Asia that never happened, the crisis in the Ukraine, the collapse of Libya, the fall of Yemen. All these are presented not as setbacks, but as the deep fruit of “strategic patience.” If you can buy that, you will surely buy defeat on the day it arrives as victory.” Serenity

Some honesty from the left. “Walzer argues persuasively that the left has failed to adjust its thinking to the rise of “Islamist zealotry” because of a set of increasingly typical moral and intellectual errors.

One of the nation’s outstanding political theorists for almost half a century and a politically engaged man of the left for just as long, Walzer criticizes fellow leftists from within the tent. He faults them in his essay, “Islamism and the Left,” for misunderstanding the moral and political imperatives that flow from the leftist quest to advance freedom, equality, toleration, and pluralism.

Walzer emphasizes his “generalized fear of every form of religious militancy” and notes that every religion is capable of inspiring fanaticism. But since the 1979 Iranian Revolution, he argues, Islamist zealotry is the form of religious militancy that has posed the principal transnational threat to liberty and democracy. Yet, he laments, many on the left ignore it or apologize for it.” Why the Left Casts a Blind Eye on Radical Islam

“I am saying all this because getting a grip on how to approach phase four of the hundred-year storm is a major task for 2016 GOP presidential candidates, one about which those who have spoken so far appear largely clueless. Yes, the next president must end brain-dead tactics like announcing exit dates upon entering a theater of war. But he or she must do much more.

With the nation’s global insecurity having risen to until recently unimaginable heights over the last six years, what does a world in which the United States and its allies are truly secure look like? How do we get there? Speaking for myself, the candidate who can satisfactorily answer those questions will have gone a long way to winning my vote. Yours, too?” “Flash: World Falling Apart. U.S. Responds… How?”

“Well, the bottom line is that this is going to be a national security election. We’re seeing the Middle East just in flames, the administration is floundering. It really has no idea what to do about it. We have a hot war, not a cold war, going on in Ukraine. You’re seeing body bags dragged out of Eastern Ukraine, the Donbass region of, you know, young Ukrainian soldiers, and Russian soldiers as well going home to be buried. You’ve got a very aggressive China in the South China Sea and the East China Sea. It’s a very dangerous world. This is going to be a foreign policy election. It’s a vulnerability for the Democrats, and it’s a huge vulnerability for Hillary Clinton. The Republican who’s the nominee and everyone who’s running needs to be the heir to Ronald Reagan. And it has to be a peace through strength platform, both in the primaries, and we have to come out of the convention with a very strong peace through strength platform. Having a strong United States Navy like Ronald Reagan advocated when he had his, shot for a 500 ship United States Navy, that’s where we need to be going into the general election.” Robert O’Brien’s Politico’s Piece On The Navy And The GOP

Obama and Global Warming Vs. Radical Islam

Quick! Someone tell President Obama and the rest of his fellow “global warming” travelers. “When future generations look back on the global-warming scare of the past 30 years, nothing will shock them more than the extent to which the official temperature records – on which the entire panic ultimately rested – were systematically “adjusted” to show the Earth as having warmed much more than the actual data justified.” The fiddling with temperature data is the biggest science scandal ever: New data shows that the “vanishing” of polar ice is not the result of runaway global warming

Can we make Obama’s head roll first please? “If the temperature records on which the entire edifice of the international global warming industry is based are a busted flush then we have all been victims of a scam so vast and all-encompassing it makes Enron look like a model of modesty and integrity. It also raises the question – and I speak here, of course, metaphorically rather than literally: when are heads going to roll?” GLOBAL WARMING: SO DISHONEST IT MAKES ENRON LOOK LIKE A PARAGON OF INTEGRITY

Obama and the Muslim Brotherhood

Transparency “The most transparent White House ever held a closed-door meeting with so-called “Muslim leaders” Wednesday, but for some mysterious reason won’t divulge the identity of them. Why is that? (snip) We wonder what the media’s reaction would be if a Republican president met with, say, un-named “Christian leaders”?” Obama Holds White House Sitdown With Mysterious ‘Muslim Leaders’

No wonder the White House tried to hide this from us. “Azeez’s bio also reveals him as a founding member the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter. CAIR has also allegedly funneled money to Palestinian terror groups and was also started by members of the Muslim Brotherhood.

In October, 2014, Azeez signed a letter endorsing Sharia Islamic governance. Under the Sharia, non-Muslims are treated as second-class citizens. The Sharia also endorses thehudud punishments in the Koran and Hadiths, which state that apostasy from Islam is punishable by death.” THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD COMES TO THE WHITE HOUSE

“The State Department admitted on Monday that it misled reporters about a recent delegation of Muslim Brotherhood leaders and allies who were hosted for a meeting with officials at Foggy Bottom. (snip) The meeting between the Brotherhood allies and the State Department sparked controversy in Washington and Cairo, where Egyptian government officials expressed anger at the Obama administration for hosting representatives of a group they consider to be terrorists.” State Dept. In Case You Missed It

“The families will also receive extended benefits relating to the shooting now that the law has been changed.  But the unnecessary pain the victims and their families were forced to endure because of political correctness must never be forgotten.” Fort Hood victims finally to get Purple Hearts

2016 Presidential Election

We must take heed, if we are to win in 2016. “The road to the White House is over the crushed and mangled narratives of the media. A Republican candidate who fails to take on the media will fall wrapped head to toe in lies and scandals. He will go on issuing clarifications and sensible statements while the media accuses him of murdering small children.

The media is not impartial. It is not even a forum. The national media is the political opponent of every Republican running for the White House.

It needs to be treated that way. (snip)

When the media attacks, the issue should never be the credibility of a Republican candidate. The issue must always be the credibility of the media. It must be the credibility of the politicians being protected by the press. (snip)

2016 won’t just be a race against Hillary, but against the media. The media needs Republicans to tie the noose around their own necks by acknowledging the media’s credibility as investigators and reporters.

When Republicans provide the media with credibility, they lose.” Beat the Media, Win the White House

Proof of why we need to do what is outlined in the article above. “Professor Groseclose devotes chapters 18-20 of Left Turn to his analysis of the effects of media bias. In his preface he briefly states the conclusion of his analysis of the effects: “Theeffects of media bias are real and significant. My results suggest that media bias aids Democratic candidates by about 8-10 percentage points in a typical election. I find, for instance, that if media bias didn’t exist, then John McCain would have defeated Barack Obama 56-42, instead of losing 53-46.”

In a sense, this dramatic finding understates the problem. In a world without media bias — in a world where the media treated Democrats like it treats Republicans — Barack Obama wouldn’t have been the Democratic presidential nominee.” IMAGINE THERE’S NO MEDIA BIAS

Amnesty

“President Obama is running a massive illegal operation that has issued 5.5 million work permits never authorized by Congress, according to a disturbing new report from the nonpartisan Center for Immigration Studies.” Obama’s Shadow Visa Network

“The Homeland Security Department has set up hotlines for illegal immigrants who believe their rights under President Obama’s amnesty policy have been violated.” Homeland Security sets up Obama amnesty complaint hotlines for illegals

“The Center for Immigration Studies uncovered documents through a Freedom of Information Act request, showing that more than 5.5 million new work permits were issued to aliens overall from 2009 to 2014.

That was more than the number of green cards – lawful permanent residence authorizations – and temporary worker admissions in those years.

The organization called it ‘a huge parallel immigrant work authorization system outside the limits set by Congress that inevitably impacts opportunities for U.S. workers, damages the integrity of the immigration system, and encourages illegal immigration.” Nearly 1 MILLION border-crossing illegal immigrants have received US work permits during Obama’s presidency, shocking documents reveal

Well, at least someone is standing up for the  American worker. “Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) is calling for an investigation into the recently exposed “shadow” work authorization system, in which the Obama administration has allowed millions more immigrants than Congress mandated to obtain work permits.

“This massive increase in the labor supply has occurred simultaneously with a steep drop in family incomes and a sharp rise in the number of Americans pushed out of the workforce,” Sessions said in a statement Monday. “All jobs gains since the recession have gone to foreign workers, while the slack labor market has depressed median family incomes almost $5,000 in that time.” SEN. JEFF SESSIONS CALLS FOR INVESTIGATION INTO ‘SHADOW’ WORK AUTHORIZATION SYSTEM

Democracy

Making government complicated on purpose.” Today, this old problem of citizen ignorance and its political role has been worsened by the expansion of the scale and scope of the federal government and its agencies over the last 75 years. Indeed, the complexity of the policies that federal agencies enforce and manage has made Wilson’s ideas about the necessity for government by technocratic elites a self-fulfilling prophecy. In 1960, economist F. A. Hayek made this point about the Social Security program, noting that “the ordinary economist or sociologist or lawyer is today nearly as ignorant [as the layman] of the details of that complex and ever changing system.” Are We Smart Enough for Democracy?

The Economy

Unbelievable. “In the months and years since the recession began in December 2007, foreign-born workers have experienced a net increase in employment, while native-born Americans have experienced a net loss.” NET U.S. JOB GAINS SINCE THE RECESSION HAVE GONE TO FOREIGN-BORN WORKERS

Brave. “Clifton says Americans out of work for at least four weeks are “as unemployed as one can possibly be” and argues that as many as 30 million of them are now either out of work or severely underemployed.

He points out that an out-of-work engineer, for example, performing a minimum of one hour of work a week, even mowing a lawn for $20, also is not officially counted as unemployed.

In addition, those working part time but wanting full-time work — the so-called “severely underemployed” — also are not counted.

“There’s no other way to say this,” Clifton says. “The official unemployment rate … amounts to a big lie.” Gallup CEO Says “Unemployment Rate” is White House “Big Lie”

Education

Good! “Today this former governor and former secretary (and former president of the University of Tennessee), Senator Lamar Alexander, is chairman of the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions. He is seeking 60 Senate votes to, he says, “reverse the trend toward a national school board,” which the Education Department has become.” Education Is for the States: Senator Lamar Alexander is pushing to get the federal government out of the curriculum business.

Elections

The real extremists are on the side of the left. “So while the story is told, over and over, about how the extreme right wing of the Republican Party is pushing people out, you never once hear the word “extreme” associated with the left or progressive wings of the Democratic Party.

Is it because those wings’ values are shared by many in the press who report on politics, so they view any move to the left as normal and sensible? Probably.

Is that good for Democrats? Probably not, because it forces them deeper into their party’s coastal, urban and academic enclaves, and further out of touch with Middle America.

Eventually, if not already, that will make them the party of the elite.

Washington can’t see this. Big-money Democrats can’t see this.

But Yvonne, the Youngstown Democrat, can see it — and so can a lot of other Yvonnes and their families, neighbors and co-workers, all across the country.” Extreme-left Dems Pushing Middle America Away

“Judis notes these things as well, but he concentrates on groups of white voters and provides some thorough and serious analysis of how they are abandoning Democrats. He notes that the Obama Democrats’ big government policies have repelled more than attracted white working class voters and that the increased taxes imposed by Democrats like former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley have repelled the segment of middle class whites he is examining — people he sees as “not driven by any racial animus” (contrary to what some liberal analysts argue) and as “socially liberal.” In other words, while cultural issues make them open or even favorable to Democrats, economic issues are driving them away.” Co-author of The Emerging Democratic Majority recants

“Remember all this next time you read an article about how the Democrats are on the rise. The reality is that the transfer of power in 2008 was entirely predictable, given the economic downturn and the fact that the GOP had already controlled the White House for eight years. Meanwhile, Barack Obama’s high-water mark—a seven-point victory over John McCain—was less than the high points for Eisenhower, Kennedy/Johnson, Nixon/Ford, Reagan, and Clinton. Moreover, Obama’s presidential victory has led to a GOP resurgence in lower offices on a scale that only octogenarians have ever seen before.  (snip)

So where do things stand now? The Democrats have been routed on the subpresidential level, leaving them in as weak a position as they have faced in generations. Worse, they probably cannot start seriously rebuilding until they cede the White House to the GOP, which by then will probably sport historically strong margins in the subpresidential offices.

Note that very little of this has to do with the triumph of conservatism over liberalism or vice versa. Voters tend to toss incumbent parties out of the White House when the economy sours, and prior to that point they tend to favor the opposition for the rest of the electoral offices. These forces combined to rout the GOP in 2008. It is now the Democrats’ turn to worry about their inevitable fall from grace. Maybe they can delay it past 2016, but it is coming.” The Rise and Fall of the Parties: The Democrats should be worried

The Internet

The left has never met a business it didn’t want to take over. “Call it the largest plan for government regulation that no one can read — at least, the largest in almost five years. This time, though, even Congress can’t read it yet, even if they were so inclined. The plan comes from FCC chair Tom Wheeler, and it imposes Barack Obama’s vision of Net Neutrality by regulatory fiat. FCC commissioner Ajit Pai says to get ready for a government takeover — and lots and lots of new taxes.” FCC commissioner: Get ready for a government takeover of the Internet

The Left

The left must be so proud. “The Left’s last big idea was Communism. When Lenin turned out to be the god who failed, the Left undertook wide exploration for another grand unifying idea: environmentalism, multiculturalism, economic inequality, atheism, feminism, etc. What it ended up with was an enemies’ list.

That and a taste for brute force.

The enthusiasm for coercion and the substitution of enemies for ideas — Christians, white men, Israel, “the 1 percent,” the Koch brothers, take your pick — together form the basis for understanding the Left’s current convulsions. The call to imprison people with unapproved ideas about global warming, the Senate Democrats’ vote to repeal the First Amendment, the Ferguson-inspired riots, the picayune political correctness and thought-policing that annoys Jonathan Chait, the IRS’s persecution of conservative political groups, Barack Obama’s White House enemies’ list, the casual violence against conservatives on college campuses and the Left’s instinctive defense of that violence — these are not separate phenomena but part of a single phenomenon.” The Brute-Force Left: The Left lost the argument, but is determined to win the fight.

Yes, this is really happening at our university campuses. “Pro-Hamas students at the University of California at Davis chanted “Allahu akbar” at Jewish students filing out of a student government vote calling on the college to divest from companies who do business in Israel.

The 8 to 2 vote passed the council on Thursday, the latest in a series of council resolutions passed by students at UC campuses at Berkeley, San Diego, Santa Cruz, Irvine, and Riverside. The council urged the university regent to divest from companies like Caterpillar Inc. and Raytheon, which provide military equipment to Israel.

As pro-Israeli students exited the auditorium, a throng of students waving Palestinian flags began the chant. “Takbir!” one shouted, with the others all shouting “Allahu akbar” in unison. The chant is frequently used by Islamic terrorist groups and other Islamist extremists as a way to denote victory and intense religious conviction.” University of California Students Chant ‘Allahu Akbar’ During Anti-Israel Vote

“But it’s come to be standard at college campuses, many of which are now hotbeds of anti-Israel, anti-Semitic venom. But what came after is really a stunner. Some scummy little rats spray-painted swastikas on the exterior walls of the Jewish fraternity, Alpha Epsilon Pi.” ANTI-SEMITIC OUTRAGE AT UC DAVIS

Stories of the Day

The Democrats Really Want Your Money Because they Have A lot Of Free Stuff to Give away

Free stuff, free stuff, everywhere! Thank you President Obama! “Fresh from offering “free” health care, “free” phones and “free” food to the masses, he’s upped the bribery to “free” community college tuition and “free” child care. It’s not that the Clintons oppose any of these; they just need to affect moderation in case Hillary runs for president and has to knock back boilermakers again with the good old boys in Pennsylvania taverns.

Since someone has to pay for these expensive, new entitlements to the Free Stuff Army, Mr. Obama has proposed yet another “tax the rich” scheme that, if enacted (which is unlikely) would eventually plunder working-class families. To liberals, that’s what tax “reform” is all about.” Obama’s Free Stuff Army: The lure of something for nothing grows as morality crumbles

Of course they are. They Dems have never met a tax they didn’t like… “If you work for a living, Barack Obama is looking to rob you — again.

This time he and his Democrat kleptocrats are after your 529s. Those are the states’ college-savings plans, where you can invest money you’ve earned (and paid taxes on) into mutual funds for your children’s college educations.

Then, when you need the money to pay those bloated tuitions, you can withdraw the 529 funds, tax-free.

You begin to see the problem, at least from the point of view of Barack Obama. No. 1, you actually worked for the money — that makes you a bitter clinger right there. As Granny Warren says, you didn’t build that business.

No. 2, why shouldn’t you have to pay taxes on your earnings — twice?

Obama’s latest soak-the-middle-class scheme surfaced last week. It’s part of what he calls “helping working families.” Carr: No child’s college fund left behind

“Why did I find that particular question a compelling topic for a column? Because it’s a question we may have to ask ourselves. As I observed when I first wrote about the plan, the very fact that we are discussing taxation of educational savings — redistributing educational subsidies downward — indicates that the administration has started scraping the bottom of the barrel when seeking out money to fund new programs. Why target a tax benefit that goes to a lot of your supporters (and donors), that tickles one of the sweetest spots in American politics (subsidizing higher education), and that will hit a lot of people who make less than the $250,000 a year that has become the administration’s de facto definition of “rich”?

Presumably, because you’re running out of other places to get the money.” Uncle Sam Is Coming After Your Savings

They’re trying to get at your retirement savings too. “Obama claims this is just part of his plan to make the rich “pay their fair share” by closing tax loopholes, but as Reynolds points out, Obama’s plan would hit the middle class hardest.

“This doesn’t hurt the very rich — who just pay for college out of pocket — or the poor, who get financial aid, but it’s pretty rough on the middle- and upper-middle class,” he notes.

“When a government is desperate for cash,” writes Reynolds, “it goes after the middle class, because that’s where the money is.”

This isn’t the first time Obama and his fellow Democrats have considered taxing savings plans to finance big government, and it almost certainly won’t be the last.

As we wrote back in 2011, Democrats were looking at ways to tax what was then more than $9 trillion in 401(k) and IRA assets as a way to finance more government spending. Obama’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board, for example, suggested cutting or ending the tax deduction to pay for an expanded Saver’s Credit. Such ideas won’t get any traction with Republicans in control of Congress. But once proposed, even dumb ideas like these will just keep floating around Washington until they find fertile soil.” Obama’s 529 Tax Plan Is Just The Beginning

It never stops. “Likewise, Obama proposes to tax the appreciation on inherited homes. When you sell property at a profit, you pay capital gains on the difference between the basis (what you paid) and what you sell it for. (Obama also proposes to increase the capital gains rate). That’s not a big issue for most middle class people, because right now if your parents leave you their house, you get what’s called a “step-up” in basis.

That means that the basis isn’t what your parents paid for the house decades ago, but rather what it was worth when you inherited it. Thus, the appreciation your property experienced while your parents owned it comes to you tax-free. For many families, that appreciation is their biggest inheritance. Now, subject to some exemptions Obama plans to tax those gains, and other gains via inheritance.” Obama goes where the money is to pay for ‘free’ education programs – your savings account.

Please someone tell these Libs that we’re running out of “other people’s money.” “In other words, a liberal group has proposed spending hundreds of billions—at minimum—on expanding Obamacare programs. And other than some suggestions about using government-imposed price controls—“direct intervention in pricing may ultimately be necessary”—the Families USA report contains precious little on paying for these expanded entitlements. It may have answered the “What?” when it comes to proposed “fixes” to the law, but it did not answer the “How much?” And as the law remains divisive, and federal debt continues to rise, the latter question must remain on the public agenda for some time to come.” Who’s Going to Pay for This Obamacare Wish List?

And this is before all the proposals outlined in the above article. “Buried deep inside the latest CBO budget outlook report there is some shocking (by which I mean not shocking to anyone who has been paying attention) information on the effects of ObamaCare. You can forget about all the promises that were made by the administration and their Democrat allies during the debate… they were lying clearly inaccurate in their estimates. So how bad is it? The Daily Mail came out with the first report.

It will cost the federal government – taxpayers, that is – $50,000 for every person who gets health insurance under the Obamacare law, the Congressional Budget Office revealed on Monday.” Nothing to see here: Obamacare to cost $50K per person covered

The World’s On Fire

Obama plays while the world burns. “It would be hard to overstate how poorly things are going for the United States around the world. Iran moves steadily toward acquiring nuclear weapons, with the apparent approval of the Obama administration. Iraq, once hailed as one of the Obama administration’s greatest successes by Joe Biden, is now largely occupied by ISIS. The carnage in Syria continues. The government of Yemen, a key ally in the war against Islamic terror, has fallen. In Nigeria, Boko Haram slaughters thousands and now controls much of Africa’s richest country.

And Russia continues to chip away at Ukraine. Let’s pause on this one for a moment. Having absorbed Crimea, Russia is now concentrating its fire on the eastern half of Ukraine, perhaps with a plan to secure Crimea via a land bridge to Russia. There is no longer any pretense about the fact that Russian soldiers have invaded Ukraine and are fighting alongside separatist rebels. The New York Times reports that the war in Ukraine is “exploding.” The Kiev Postprofiles Ukrainian soldiers struggling to hold onto the strategically important city of Debaltseve. Stratfor issues a “red alert” and speculates about Russia’s strategic intentions.

It is times like this when a country needs leadership, and, whatever else you might think about him, Barack Obama has never been accused of being a leader.” THE WORLD BURNS, AMERICA FIDDLES

He really did it. Obama traded one deserter for five top Taliban fighters. “No matter what happens, this administration will still be the one that gave up the biggest bargaining chips they had with the Taliban to get nothing strategic in return, and suddenly reset expectations around the world that the US will bargain with terrorists for hostages. That wouldn’t change even if Bergdahl doesn’t get charged with desertion. If Shaffer’s correct, it just makes the foolish nature of the trade slightly more obvious.” Video: Army has charged Bergdahl with desertion, but … Update: NBC confirms charges

Obama has egg on his face. “White House fear is totally understandable.  If you had traded five key terrorist leaders for one American G.I. and your hero turned out to be a deserter who willingly left his post and his unit and went over to the enemy in time of war, wouldn’t you be embarrassed?  Worse, had you quite publicly invited said deserter’s parents to stroll congenially and intimately through the White House Rose Garden with you, and then had that event broadcast round the world, wouldn’t you be embarrassed?

However, their fear is in no way defensible.  If the president is embarrassed by his reckless diplomacy and his foolishness in courting the family of a possible traitor, so be it.  Were I the president, heads would be rolling for allowing such a public relations disaster to occur and for making me look like such a naïve fool.  Of course, the possibility exists that the president was fully aware of a completed Army investigation that had concluded that Bergdahl was a deserter and that this was merely another one of Obama’s long-middle-finger gestures to the nation he purportedly leads.” Sand-Kicker in Chief

Making Americans less safe one prisoner swap at a time. “Putting aside the atrocious negotiating skills of Team Obama for agreeing to trade five Taliban operatives for one American soldier, whose platoon mates believe he deserted them, the message President Obama sent to our enemies is that the U.S. is willing to ignore decades of previous U.S. policy and talk about deals and swaps. Sadly, the bad guys now know there can be a reward for having something the U.S. wants. They know what they need to do in order to get the attention of President Obama and his national security team.

This terrible decision is the Obama legacy. We are sliding down the slope that the Obama administration keeps greasing.” Al Qaeda agent floated in swap for US prisoners? Obama’s legacy takes scary turn

That’s quite a legacy our president is carving out for himself, eh? “We are now in an equally turbulent age of rising empires — mostly due to a new American indifference and passivity. Or, to put it more exactly, President Obama believes that his own legacy rests with avoiding all confrontations overseas, withdrawing as many troops as he can, and cutting the defense budget as much as Congress will allow so as to use the funds to address supposed inequality at home. If chaos results abroad, he can either blame his predecessor, George W. Bush, or assume that his successor will have to deal with what he wrought — or both. Obama is running out the clock of his presidency on the premise of Après moi, le déluge.” Barack Obama, Empire Builder: Not since the 1930s and early 1940s have we seen so many malevolent empires on the rise.

“Who says President Obama doesn’t promote bipartisanship? His complicity in Iran’s moving toward nuclear bombs has alarmed some top Senate Democrats enough to get them to join Republicans in opposition to the Obama administration’s potentially suicidal foreign policy.” Obama’s Suicidal Iran Policy

“But how sad that this delusional little man is our President. And how Mr. Putin must sneer when he considers who he is up against. God help us.” WHY CAN’T HE TELL THE TRUTH?

Obama vs. Netanyahu

His ego is going to get a lot of people killed. “Barack Hussein Obama, however, wants Netanyahu to butt out of his “delicate negotiations,” which Obama claims have yielded real and tangible results.  For Obama, this is a clinical debate in a Harvard Law School classroom.  He is convinced that the weight of his charisma and his mastery of speech will win the day.

Most of the Congress doubts Barack Obama’s strategy.  The Iranians are open and vocal in their rejection of Obama’s rhetoric.  They have not slowed one bit.  Obama has hung his hopes on empty Iranian commitments.  There is not a credible agency or international group or intelligence service anywhere that can reliably state that Obama’s negotiations have produced a whit of impact upon the Iranians as they press forward to develop the bomb.

But Barack Obama says Netanyahu has “spit in his face” with his plan to address a joint session of Congress.  Make no mistake – this is about Barack Obama’s ego.” Why Obama gives Netanyahu the cold shoulder

It always comes down to Obama’s ego. “Thou shall not cross Dear Leader.

With their guttersniping failing to stop Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s planned March speech before Congress, White House aides are unloading their full arsenal of bile.

“He spat in our face publicly, and that’s no way to behave,” one Obama aide told an Israeli newspaper. “Netanyahu ought to remember that President Obama has a year and a half left to his presidency, and that there will be a price.”

It is pointless to say petty threats do not become the Oval Office. Trying to instruct this White House on manners recalls what Mark Twain said about trying to teach a pig to sing: It wastes your time and annoys the pig.

Still, the fury is telling. It reminds, as if we could forget, that everything is always about Obama.” White House going nuclear on Netanyahu

Enemies. “There is only one world leader whom Barack Obama despises: Benjamin Netanyahu. And now, Obama is putting his campaign organization where his mouth is. (snip)

Obviously Obama’s national field director would not go to Israel to try to defeat Netanyahu without Obama’s approval and encouragement. As for “One Voice,” what do we know about it other than the fact that it is foreign funded? Breitbart says that “One Voice” is “reportedly funded by American donors,” but is there any assurance that Iran, for example, is not contributing to or controlling “One Voice”?

Be that as it may, President Obama’s interference in Israel’s election is shocking.” OBAMA CAMPAIGN TEAM WORKING TO DEFEAT NETANYAHU

“The Obama administration is throwing a hissy fit over the invitation extended by Speaker Boehner to Prime Minister Netanyahu to address a joint session of Congress over the threat posed by Iran. Given the existential nature of the threat posed by Iran to Israel, one might have entertained hopes that the Obama administration would behave otherwise, but those hopes would have been foolish.” AMB. DERMER SPEAKS

Protocol suddenly matters to this president. “The White House has now become a stickler for protocol, especially when it comes to relations between the two political branches.

The new persnicketiness arises from House speaker John Boehner’s invitation to Israeli prime minister Bibi Netanyahu to speak before a joint session of Congress in March. The invite is being denounced as a major breach and new low in Washington because he didn’t, as had been the traditional practice with such invitations, coordinate with the White House.

As far as violations of the separation of powers in the Obama era, it’s hard to see how this even comes close to registering. Maybe Emily Post wouldn’t approve, and with a different administration it would be worth honoring every courtesy, but we are far beyond that now.

President Barack Obama has a notoriously piratical attitude toward Congress. He deliberately and gleefully trampled all over its role as the lawmaking branch, and cast aside his own as the executor of the laws. He has distorted the constitutional order to suit his whim, and now his allies are peeved that John Boehner made a wayward speaking invitation?” When Did Barack Obama Become Emily Post? Interbranch protocol is nice, but laughable from this president.

Always follow the money. “A shadowy Bermudan company that has funneled tens of millions of dollars to anti-fracking environmentalist groups in the United States is run by executives with deep ties to Russian oil interests and offshore money laundering schemes involving members of President Vladimir Putin’s inner circle.

One of those executives, Nicholas Hoskins, is a director at a hedge fund management firm that has invested heavily in Russian oil and gas. They won’t give it up because they know in an egalitarian society there are always elites at the top. And that’s their ultimate aspiration. “ The funny thing is, the super-rich who take this position never seem to want to do the obvious thing to rectify it – to give up a large portion of their wealth to contribute to increasing the equality of income.  No, they usually want others to do that.  Once liberals become wealthy, they want taxes raised to make it harder for other people to become wealthy; they, already super-wealthy, either have accountants to help hide their wealth in trusts or simply aren’t bothered because they already have so much money.

What else is there that could explain why Warren Buffet, or the owners of the New York Times, or Jeff Bezos, who owns the Washington Post,  all of whom constantly complain about income inequality, don’t simply give up 95% of their assets to the government or charity?  Because they don’t want to give up their own money.  They want everyone else to live live in an equal, egalitarian society, but not themselves.” Rich people upset about being rich

“I’ve seen them both in action. They are a joke. “For news junkies, those of us addicted to the daily push and pull of national and international politics, our State Department’s spokespersons, Marie Harf and Jen Psaki, provide the same brand of entertainment for conservatives that Saturday Night Live does for liberals.  Each of these women gives comically imbecilic non-answers to whoever is asking her questions, whether they are asked by the WH press corps or television news anchors.  Both seem to have been scooped up from some snooty private high school where they bullied all the girls not of their self-perceived superior status; they are both naturally rude and condescending.  Neither one of them speaks as if she has been to university, although both most certainly have.  Clearly neither of them has ever taken a public speaking course.  Neither is remotely articulate, savvy, or quick-witted.  They are both fools the press corps and news anchors must suffer in silence.  They are also typical of the caliber of people who populate the Obama administration: incompetent.” Harf-Psaki is an insidious disease

2012 Presidential Election

If you’re a political junkie, click on over to read the whole thing. “DES MOINES — As the Freedom Summit marks the unofficial start of the 2016 Republican presidential campaign here in Iowa, the race is already too sprawling, with too many characters and too many crosscurrents, to have a single theme. But here are a dozen keys to understand what is happening now:

1. The candidates who have run before — Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum — all think they can get their teams back together for another race. They can’t. Each man has been in touch with staff and supporters from 2008 and 2012, with the assumption that the people who were willing to work for them back then will do so again in 2016. But the world has changed; issues have changed and new candidates have emerged. Moderates who backed Romney now have Jeb Bush and Chris Christie to consider, while conservatives who backed Huckabee and Santorum have Ted Cruz and Ben Carson. Even if the veterans run again, they won’t be able to recreate what they had before. They’ll have to do something different. (snip)

12. You know what Bobby Jindal said about Muslim “no-go zones” in Europe, a statement that resulted in Jindal being criticized and mocked by mainstream commentators? It turns out many social conservatives in Iowa really liked it. To them, Jindal was warning about the danger of enclaves of unassimilated Muslim populations in an age of Islamic radicalism, a problem they fear could be in store for the United States. Jindal, who is himself the model of an assimilated American from an immigrant family, not only did not suffer from his remarks but instead benefited from them.

Those are 12 factors at play in the race now. One could easily list 12 more, and 12 more after that. It’s going to be a very complicated campaign.” 12 keys to the GOP presidential race right now

Amazing that  Eleanor Clift wrote this. Something positive about a Republican. “Opportunities present themselves,” Rubio says, noting that he trailed in the polls when he first jumped into the race. “I deal with openings as they emerge.” And in a presidential field that’s getting crowded, there’s still an opening for someone as engaging as Rubio if he can translate his personal story into policy prescriptions that are relevant to the voters.” Rubio 2016 is Real, and It’s Spectacular: Marco Rubio says he isn’t sure if he’ll be running for president or another term in the Senate in 2016. Either way, he’ll be someone to watch for years to come.

Interesting. “Krauthammer was asked by fellow panelist Steve Hayes how he would allocate his money if he was given $100 to go Las Vegas and bet on who will be the nominee. Krauthammer put the most money, $40 on Rubio, with $30 going to Jeb Bush, $15 to Scott Walker, and the remaining $15 on booze. He added “he’s [Rubio] my underestimated dark horse candidate who threads his way, young, energetic. He’s got a program and I think if he runs against Hillary, the contrast say the vigor, the energy that Kennedy-esque idea will be be a major one.” KRAUTHAMMER: RUBIO IS MOST LIKELY TO WIN GOP NOMINATION

“Each man improved his position in the GOP field, but the potential candidate with the most improved standing in Iowa — if only because she started from virtually nowhere — would have to be Carly Fiorina, the former Hewlett Packard CEO and failed California Senate candidate who’s now considering the longest-of-longshot runs for the White House. (snip)

For example, can one debunk the “war on women” and go after bloated government at the same time? Fiorina found a way when she described running into top Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett at a recent TV appearance.

First, Fiorina asked Jarrett about the gender pay gap at the White House. Then: “I asked her further why, if she was so concerned about equal pay for equal work, why the White House was not tackling the seniority system, which is in place in every federal government bureaucracy and every union shop.” Relying on an sclerotic seniority system not only discourages innovation in government, Fiorina argued, it also disadvantages women who find themselves stuck behind less competent but more senior male colleagues.

Fiorina used her career perspective again to attack liberals who burden business with regulations that purport to ensure a fairer marketplace but end up giving big firms an advantage over smaller ones.” A surprise star in Iowa’s presidential sweepstakes

“It is true, though, that Huckabee does an excellent job as a media spokesman, putting a happy face on conservatism. In that milieu, he is an asset to the Right. When he governs — well, not so much. The Romney leakers, as nasty as they are, have done us a favor by starting to remind us of Huck’s record.” Reality Check on Huckabee: There’s no hiding his highly problematic record in Arkansas.

“Today we need much more than honest and competent governance of the vast leviathan of government and institutional leftism.  We need a leader who can fight the rhetorical war against the establishment and who is not concerned about pleasing the left at all.  If we settle for less than that, if we accept a RINO president who will work to compromise with the evil that is leftism and the monster that is Washington, then we will find ourselves not closer to victory, but rather drifting slowly, but definitely, in the direction of  disaster.” The danger of RINO presidents

“’Scott Walker has the blueprint for winning and winning consistently and winning big in a blue state with conservative principles that are offered with absolutely no excuses,” Limbaugh remarked. “The left, the Democrat Party, threw everything at Scott Walker trying to destroy him. They did everything they could. He not only withstood it all, he survived and triumphed over all of it.’” Limbaugh: Scott Walker ‘The Blueprint’ For GOP If They Are ‘Serious About Beating The Left’

2nd Amendment

Obama and his Leftist travelers are going to take our guns in one way or another. “But gun-control supporters aren’t merely relying on fooling people with new language. From import bans to action through the Centers for Disease Control, the Obama administration, with the aid of that presidential pen that he loves so much, is doing what it can, where it can. Operation Choke Point, which targets gun sellers — among others — by attacking their ability to keep a bank account open, has achieved a certain level of notoriety, but other moves are farther under the radar, especially for a public that is more concerned with developments that affect individual consumers (and thus raise Second Amendment concerns) than with ones that affect the firearms industry. The latest such change came earlier this month, when the ATF issued a new ruling (ATF Rul. 2015–1) that redefines what it means to be a manufacturer of firearms, thereby bringing a new swath of the industry under its control.” Why Firearms Makers Are So Worried Even as The Second Amendment Is Stronger than Ever: At the SHOT Show, the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty looms and there are new state laws on the horizon.

Obama only wants to the government to have guns. The people are more compliant that way. “LAS VEGAS—Banned from financial services that are essential to running a business, firearms sellers attending the world’s largest gun show last week in Las Vegas spoke out against the government’s controversial program known as Operation Choke Point.

“We continue to hear from dealers and others in our industry that suddenly, out of the blue, they have been cut off by financial services or credit card processors or banks,” said Larry Keane, Senior Vice President of the National Shooting Sports Foundation.” Ready, Aim, Fire: Choke Point Draws Heat From Gun Industry

The American Dream

Is this what Obama meant by “Hope and Change”? “African Americans for decades flocked to Prince George’s County to be part of a phenomenon that has been rare in American history: a community that grew more upscale as it became more black.

The county became a national symbol of the American Dream with a black twist. Families moved into expansive new homes, with rolling lawns, nearby golf courses and, most of all, neighbors who looked like them. In the early 2000s, home prices soared — some well beyond $1 million — allowing many African Americans to build the kind of wealth their elders could only imagine.

But today, the nation’s highest-income majority-black county stands out for a different reason — its residents have lost far more wealth than families in neighboring, majority-white suburbs. And while every one of these surrounding counties is enjoying a strong rebound in housing prices and their economies, Prince George’s is lagging far behind, and local economists say a full recovery appears unlikely anytime soon.” A shattered foundation: African Americans who bought homes in Prince George’s have watched their wealth vanish

American Sniper

Bravo sir! “Rupert Murdoch says he’s a huge fan of American Sniper, and anyone who thinks otherwise — “Hollywood leftists” in particular — are completely out of touch with America.

Murdoch just weighed in on the left vs. right controversy surrounding the film, after Seth Rogenand Michael Moore both initially appeared to criticize American Sniper on Twitter, sparking a national debate in the process.

The mogul, who owns 20th Century Fox movie studios and routinely takes to Twitter to praise Fox films, offered his support for the Clint Eastwood film, which was released by rival Warner Bros.

Murdoch wrote on Twitter, “Hollywood leftists trash American Hero, show how completely out of touch they are with America. Bravo Clint Eastwood!” He added, clarifying, “Yes, American Sniper!” Rupert Murdoch Rips “Hollywood Leftists” Over ‘American Sniper’

“There’s a real opportunity for a new studio that focuses on making films like this. Will some rich guy put some money into that instead of funding some lame Karl Rove initiative? It would do more good. . . .” “The backlash to that patriotism and the things the country is lacking these days didn’t take very long to form and it goes a lot deeper than snide tweets from Michael Moore and Seth Rogen. Academy members were reportedly passing around an article from the New Republic, whose author had not actually seen the movie, but still denounced it for not showing Chris Kyle as a bigoted murderer.

Hollywood progressives are both threatened and angered by American Sniper. And with good reason.” SULTAN KNISH: The Hollywood Jihad Against American Sniper.

Arizona

Can I have my campaign donation back please? “Flake said he agrees with the Obama administration and U.S. allies that additional sanctions against Iran could reverse progress in international talks to curtail the country’s nuclear program.

“The purpose of these multilateral sanctions, which have been effective, is to bring them to the negotiating table,” Flake told The Arizona Republic. ‘What strikes me as odd is once they are at the table, and they are complying with the interim agreement, why we would risk pushing them from the table.’” Flake sides with Obama on Iran and Cuba

Arizona State University reaches new lows… “Today’s outrageous violation of common sense and high educational standards comes to us via Campus Reform, which discovered a course on the “problem of whiteness” at Arizona State University.

At Arizona State University (ASU), students can now learn about the “problem of whiteness” in America.

The public university is offering an English class to its students this semester called “Studies in American Literature/Culture: U.S. Race Theory & the Problem of Whiteness.”

According to the class description on ASU’s website, students will be reading The Possessive Investment in Whiteness, Critical Race Theory, Everyday Language of White Racism, Playing in the Dark, and The Alchemy of Race and Rights.” The Unbearable Lightness of Whiteness

The Economy

“A new study finds that 60% of the jobs gained last year were due to the fact that Republicans managed to block one of President Obama’s key “middle class economics” policies in Congress.

Let’s dial the clock back to December 2013. At that point, 1.3 million faced an end to the federal unemployment benefits that Congress had extended repeatedly in the wake of the recession. (snip)

Now Obama is running around talking about how 2014 was “a breakthrough year for America” and how the economy is “creating jobs at the fastest pace since 1999.” But the only reason he can make such claims is because he failed to get what he wanted.

It’s enough to make you wonder how much more growth we’d enjoy if other parts of Obama’s “middle class economics” were jettisoned.” Blocking Obama’s Agenda Created 1.8 Million Jobs in 2014

The Left

A book review: The Pity Party: A Mean-spirited Diatribe Against Liberal Compassion. “Progressives will always claim that no matter how badly their plans go wrong, at least their terrible policies were well-intentioned.

The regimes that shot orphans, starved entire cities into submission and committed genocide were “caring” in comparison to the heartless Dickensian capitalists who did nothing for the poor except create cheap products and jobs. They might have killed millions, but their red hearts were in the right place. (snip)

Every crime, from Green Energy corruption to totalitarian health care regulations, is justified by an appeal to compassion. But the truly compassionate attribute is not the arrogant paternalism of leftist policymakers, but the empowerment of our fellow man through political and economic freedom.” The Pity Party

“Our governments and our business and political elites are not mainly made up of stupid people. One of the shocking things about getting to know people in government, whether in elected office or in the bureaucracies, is that they are mostly bright, well-intentioned, and honest. Together they represent a sterling example of one of the most important and least understood of modern social paradoxes: None of us is as dumb as all of us.” None of us is as dumb as all of us.” Davos’s Destructive Elites

“The left is infested with politicians who have engaged in no productive activity at all, in some cases it seems over their entire lives, except in the surreal universe of leftism, which deems faceless regulators, well-connected litigators, and boorish professors “productive” people.

These leftists do not make war on the “rich,” a class in which they are fully and greedily represented, but upon the “productive rich,” the people who heal the sick, produce the oil and gas, build and operate the businesses, and otherwise make life better and more prosperous for ordinary people.

There is, of course, a latent jealously these plutocratic leftists feel toward those who by honest sweat get rich.  The actual creation of wealth is a mystery to these leftist plutocrats, and what they cannot understand, of course, they fear and despise.” The Plutocratic Left

The Middle Class

“There is no shortage of ideas on what to do about the shrinking Middle Class from the left or the right. Redistribution won’t work. What we need is a path that we can follow to create more and better jobs so that today’s young people can begin to build wealth and enter the Middle Class with some sense of security and optimism.

Relying on government to provide that is foolhardy.” Analysis: The Middle Class is changing, shrinking

The Pope

Calling out the Leftist Pope. “Under the tutelage of a pope who ascribes to himself an omnicompetency in geopolitical and scientific matters, the Catholic Church is at risk of a death walk of its own. Its descent into a left-leaning political entity is underway while we circle the wagons and measure our tones. It is a serious matter when a pope confuses political and ideological symbols for religious ones.

Civil society has an immense stake in that confusion. And the stakes are raised when papal preferences, masked in a Christian idiom, align themselves with ideological agendas (e.g. radical environmentalism) that impinge on democratic freedoms and the sanctity of the individual. Throughout the history of the Church, there has been tension between Peter and Caesar, between the Church and the state. Francis, raised in Argentina during the apogee of Peronism, gives every evidence of tilting toward the state.” Pope Francis Is A Leftist And Must Be Called Out: Pope Francis has associated with revolutionaries and ideologies that destroy human life and living conditions. The right response is not silence.

Stories of the Day

This is a MUST read. No matter what party you are aligned with, you should be appalled that Nancy Pelosi covered up the truth. “We’ve long suspected the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission wasn’t honest in examining events before the meltdown. But an ex-commissioner says the probe was actually a full-blown political cover-up.

In a just-released book, former FCIC member Peter Wallison says that a Democratic Congress worked with the commission’s Democratic chairman to whitewash the government’s central role in the mortgage debacle. The conspiracy helped protect some of the Democrats’ biggest stars from scrutiny and accountability while helping justify the biggest government takeover of the financial sector since the New Deal.

Wallison’s sobering, trenchantly written “Hidden in Plain Sight: What Really Caused the World’s Worst Financial Crisis and Why It Could Happen Again” reveals that the Democrat-led panel buried key data proving that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and other federal agencies pushed the housing market over the subprime cliff. The final FCIC report put the blame squarely on Wall Street.” Whistleblower: Pelosi Covered Up Role In Crisis

OUCH. Obama’s gotta feel the sting from this one. This from a typically Obama-friendly mainstream paper. Another MUST READ. “IN DEVOTING 250 of the 6,800 words of his State of the Union address to the fight against “violent extremism,” President Obama offered a boilerplate description of his policy. “Instead of sending large ground forces overseas,” he said, “we’re partnering with nations from South Asia to North Africa to deny safe haven to terrorists who threaten America.” As he spoke, his strategy was crumbling in a nation he failed to mention: Yemen, home to the branch of al-Qaeda that claimed credit for the recent attacks in France and has repeatedly attempted to strike the U.S. homeland. (snip)

The Yemen mess reveals the weaknesses of Mr. Obama’s “partners” strategy, which has been too narrowly focused on drone strikes and training of specialized units, and not enough on providing security for the population, institution-building and support for moderate political forces. Unfortunately, the president’s cursory and formulaic description of his counterterrorism policies this week, following a year in which jihadist forces and terrorist attacks expanded across the world, suggested that he remains uninterested in correcting his mistakes.” Yemen’s turmoil exposes Mr. Obama’s crumbling ‘partners’ strategy

Guess which great ally is acquiescing? “Our regional allies — Saudi Arabia, the other five Gulf states, Jordan, Egypt, and Israel — are deeply worried. Tehran is visibly on the march on the ground and openly on the march to nuclear status. And their one great ally, their strategic anchor for two generations, is acquiescing to both.” The Emerging Iranian Empire: Tehran’s growing hegemony is a mortal threat to our allies in the Middle East.

What are they hiding? The people have the right to know. “Some federal agencies continue to stonewall when it comes to the ongoing investigation into the Benghazi terrorist attacks, according to insiders familiar with the process. They say the House Benghazi Select Committee isn’t getting access to all relevant documents and witnesses.” Federal Agencies Stonewall House Committee’s Benghazi Investigation

Some harsh words about Obama’s Iran foreign policy from a Democrat who should know. “Senator Robert Menendez is the ranking (Democratic) member on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. This morning at a committee hearing he said this to Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Treasury Under Secretary (and prospective CIA deputy director) David Cohen: “I have to be honest with you, the more I hear from the administration and its quotes, the more it sounds like talking points that come straight out of Tehran.” WHAT MENENDEZ SAID

Braying donkeys. “Credit where it’s due: Not in the darkest corners of my partisan heart did I think liberals would have the balls to complain about Congress stepping on executive prerogatives after the years-long dump Obama’s been taking on separation of powers. You would think, after he unilaterally suspended the employer mandate in ObamaCare, ordered not one but two enormous amnesties for illegals, and, oh yeah, launched multiple wars without seeking Congress’s authorization, that Democrats would tolerate or even expect that Boehner might not be a stickler about observing traditional courtesies between the branches. Turns out they’re quite surprised by his affront. Via Breitbart, watch below as Jen Psaki calls it an “episode of the bizarre.” Obama’s handing out work permits to people who are here illegally under U.S. law and Boehner’s inviteis “bizarre”?” Democrats whine: Boehner broke with protocol by inviting Netanyahu without telling Obama first

Obama is a little man. “Israeli officials in Jerusalem told Army Radio on Thursday that a report in Bloomberg highlighting the rift between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the vaunted intelligence agency Mossad over Iran sanctions was “the Obama administration’s revenge” over the Republican-controlled Congress’ invitation to the premier to speak before a joint session without consulting the White House.” Israel source says leaked report of Netanyahu-Mossad rift on Iran sanctions is ‘Obama’s revenge’

Stories You Might Have Missed

If the Democrats had their way, we’d all be living off of the government doll in one way or another. They have more control over us that way. “America’s national character will have to be changed if progressives are going to implement their agenda. So, changing social norms is the progressive agenda. To understand how far this has advanced, and how difficult it will be to reverse the inculcation of dependency, consider the data Nicholas Eberstadt deploys in National Affairs quarterly:

America’s welfare state transfers more than 14 percent of GDP to recipients, with more than a third of Americans taking “need-based” payments. In our wealthy society, the government officially treats an unprecedented portion of the population as ‘needy.’” Our Mushrooming Welfare State: Americans’ slipping into government dependency is becoming increasingly difficult to reverse.

How low can Obama go? “The days are long gone when presidents honored the solemnity of their responsibilities as chief executive with decorum.  The U.K. Daily Mail takes the optimistic spin that this stunt backfired because only 84,000 people watched the live stream at its peak.  I hope so.  But I am reminded of H.L. Menken’s dictum that “nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public,” written at a time when schools were able to impart literacy and numeracy to close to 100% of their graduates.

I am trying to regain my customary optimism about the possibilities of politics, but find myself this morning in the depths of depression over the fate of the Republic as ignorance and superficiality have been so honored by a president.” Obama debases the presidency in sit-down interviews with YouTube celebrities

D-list. “And not just for any interview, Kurtz noted, but for the president’s first post-State of the Union interview. He likened this to a “D-list Hollywood after party,” while Kelly wondered if she should be more like GloZell if she ever hopes to get to interview President Obama.” Fox’s Kurtz: Obama YouTube Interview Was ‘Beneath the Dignity of the Office’

File this under “Only at the University could this happen.” Unfortunately this is really happening. “It used to be that women couldn’t speak until they were spoken to. But now, apparently, women often can’t speak even when they’re spoken to because they’ve been conditioned to believe they shouldn’t unless a man has spoken first.

At least that’s the opinion of the Canadian professors who want to make it official school policy that you have to call on female students first in class:

“I do think, in general, there are a lot of studies that indicate women, girls are socialized not to speak first. . . . And so to make a conscious rule, a deliberate rule that is explicit, that ‘no, men are not allowed to speak first,’ is certainly a strong way of addressing that issue,” said Jacqueline Warwick, a professor of musicology and former coordinator of the Gender and Women’s Studies Programs at Dalhousie University.” ‘Feminists’ Think Female Students Are Too Scared to Speak in Class? They want a policy demanding professors call on female students first.

This is really happening as well. “Okay, tickets are not actually being issued for manspreading. Not yet. But feminists have certainly vociferated about the practice as if it were nothing short of criminal: “The fact is that most of the perpetrators taking up too much space in public with their bodies are men,” asserted feminist activist Davis Carr, who has expressed her contempt for men onTwitter. “It’s hard to accept that something you do so naturally can cause other people harm.” In response to the “harm” experienced by “survivors” like Carr, manspreading has become an advertising target in cities across North America, particularly in New York, where “Dude … Stop the Spread” posters have been put up by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. Ostensibly focused on men’s habit of sitting with their knees apart, pushing into other passengers’ seating area, the anti-manspreading movement is only the most recent in a spate of public service campaigns (the “Don’t Be That Guy” anti-rape poster blitz perhaps the most outrageous) to demonize (white) men by focusing on male attitudes and behaviors as social problems requiring censure.” ‘Manspreading’: A Portent of Things to Come: 2015 will see more crackdowns on the crime of masculinity

This is really worth a read. What the Left wants: “Alexei Gutnov and his team set to create “a concrete spatial agenda for Marxism”. At the center ofThe Communist City lay the “The New Unit of Settlement” (NUS) described as “a blueprint for a truly socialist city“. Gutnov established four fundamental principles dictating their design plan. First, they wanted equal mobility for all residents with each sector being at equal walking distance from the center of the community and from the rural area surrounding them. Secondly, distances from a park area or to the center were planned on a pedestrian scale, ensuring the ability for everyone to be able to reasonably walk everywhere. Third, public transportation would operate on circuits outside the pedestrian area, but stay linked centrally with the NUS, so that residents can go from home to work and vice versa easily. Lastly, every sector would be surrounded by open land on at least two sides, creating a green belt.

Gutnov did acknowledge the appeal of suburbia — “…ideal conditions for rest and privacy are offered by the individual house situated in the midst of nature…”, but rejected the suburban model common in America and other capitalist countries. Suburbs, he argued, are not feasible in a society that prioritizes equality, stating, “The attempt to make the villa available to the average consumer means building a mass of little houses, each on a tiny piece of land. . . . The mass construction of individual houses, however, destroys the basic character of this type of residence.” LOOKING BACK: THE IDEAL COMMUNIST CITY

2016 Presidential Election

Question for Democrats: Who’s the greedy one? “Mitt Romney will charge Mississippi State University $50,000 to deliver a lecture on campus next week, most of which will go to charity — a dramatically lower fee than the $250,000 to $300,000 Hillary Rodham Clinton requires for her university lectures.” Romney’s speaking fee at public university is $50,000, far less than Clinton’s

Personally, I think “Walker/Martinez” has an awfully nice ring to it.  “As the son of a Baptist minister and someone with a strong pro-life record, Walker will appeal to social conservatives, just as his Act 10 success will attract libertarian-minded voters. But Iowa political activists tell me that Walker is taking real risks of leaks in his Iowa coalition if he either approves expanded gambling or chokes on approving right-to-work — especially in a state such as Iowa that has had such a law on its books for more than 60 years.

Success in politics often goes to those who are bold and can convince people of their consistency. As Governor Walker prepares for his Iowa political debut this Saturday, he should remember that it was those qualities that propelled him into the national spotlight. Now is not the time for him to adopt a new approach that would signal drift and inconsistency.” Wisconsin Stubborn: Scott Walker has Iowa advantages, if he can keep his base.

Hold strong Scott Walker. “This puts Scott Walker in a unique position.  Several Republican “moderates” have won elections in blue states and Republican conservatives have won elections in red states, but only Walker has been able to win as an unapologetic conservative in an undeniably blue state.  Moreover, Scott Walker is the only governor in American history to survive a recall election, and this in blue Wisconsin.

The contrast is stark.  Except for Walker, only two clear conservatives who have won statewide races in states that are not red are Santorum, who lost very badly in Pennsylvania in his 2006 re-election race, and Rubio, who won with a minority of the vote in purple Florida in his only statewide run.

Candidate Walker would carry his home state of Wisconsin, and he would understand how to connect with voters in neighboring swing states like Iowa and Ohio, and perhaps even put states like Michigan, Minnesota, and Illinois in play.  Walker, who has won eleven straight electoral contests, certainly looks like he could win in 2016.” The Case for Scott Walker

Amnesty

The GOP selling us out again… But are we really surprised?  “Here we go again.

Last month’s “CRomnibus” debacle underscored a divide between the conservative base that gave Republicans a resounding victory in the midterm elections and GOP leadership on Capitol Hill: The base wants Obama’s lawlessness stopped; leadership wants to show that Republicans can “govern” by working cooperatively with Obama – in effect, codifying his lawlessness.

Prepare for the next betrayal: Republicans are about to surrender on Obama’s amnesty for illegal immigrants. The surrender, which will be portrayed as a reluctant but noble compromise for the sake of “homeland security,” was baked in the CRomnibus cake.” The Fight Over Obama’s Amnesty Decree Has Nothing to Do With Homeland Security

“The problem with Plan B is that beefing up border security does nothing to prevent the amnesty, and a lawsuit, as Patrick Brennan of NRO points out, won’t be resolved for quite a while and is probably better brought by states (who are already working on it).

Why the cave? There are several pragmatic justifications, but Brennan shows they aren’t persuasive.

The real answer can be discerned from the nature of Plan B. Understand first, that the regime Obama has imposed — amnesty for most illegal immigrants but no path to citizenship — is the substantive policy most Republican legislators (and quite possibly most Republicans, period) favor. You don’t need to be a “Washington insider” (I’m certainly not) to pick up on this.” THE GOP LEADERSHIP WANTS TO GIVE UP FIGHTING EXECUTIVE AMNESTY

Arizona Happenings

“Recently, a small rally and memorial for fallen police officers was held in Scottsdale in the Scottsdale police headquarters parking lot. The event featured a reading of names of police officers and public safety officer who were killed in the line of duty.

Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane, Councilwoman Suzanne Klapp and Scottsdale Police Chief Alan Rodbell were in attendance along with 75-100 police supporters. About a dozen anti-police agitators crashed the gathering.

To the shock and disgust of many, liberal agitators showed up wearing NAZI and communist uniforms as they shouted down police supporters trying to honor the lives of these deceased police officers.

Dennis Gilman, perhaps one of the most notorious leftist agitators and videographers in Arizona, also showed up at the event and interrupted the gathering attempting to provoke a violent confrontation. He is heard swearing profanities and even physically confronting a supporter. This is Gilman’s normal tactic of provocation in order to acquire a violent reaction on videotape. Gilman, later posted his version of the protest, labeling his video, “Pro Cop Rally Turns Violent.” Leftist Agitator Goes Berserk At Scottsdale Police Memorial

Davos/Our Betters

At Davos, billionaire tells us we need to “have less things” while he travels with two nannies on a private jet… Emphasis mine. “Billionaire Jeff Greene, who amassed a multibillion dollar fortune betting against subprime mortgage securities, says the U.S. faces a jobs crisis that will cause social unrest and radical politics.

America’s lifestyle expectations are far too high and need to be adjusted so we have less things and a smaller, better existence,” Greene said in an interview today at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “We need to reinvent our whole system of life.” (snip)

Greene, who flew his wife, children and two nannies on a private jet plane to Davos for the week, said he’s planning a conference in Palm Beach, Florida, at the Tideline Hotel called “Closing the Gap.” The event, which he said is scheduled for December, will feature speakers such as economistNouriel Roubini.” Billionaire Greene, Who Bet Against Subprime, Goes Long on U.S. While Bemoaning Jobs Crisis

We’ll start reducing our foot print when you start doing it as well… “An estimated 1,700 private aircraft are descending on the Swiss Alps — a record number that drove the Swiss Armed Forces to open up its Dübendorf military airbase to civilian traffic earlier this week.

Private jet operators across Europe are seeing a business boom, with flights on some carriers running from $10,000 to $15,000 an hour. Some companies are even throwing in free helicopter rides — another high-emission aircraft in high demand at Davos.

Climate scientists view air travel as the most costly per-person contributor to carbon emissions, with some estimates saying it accounts for 5 percent of “warming.” A round-trip flight from New York to Europe can emit 2 to 3 tons of carbon dioxide per person — and that’s a commercial flight, where the cost is shared with hundreds of other passengers.” Davos Climate Conference’s Massive Carbon Footprint

Hypocrites, all of them. “If only everyone could be as enormously conscientious as these people flying private jets to warn us that it’s time to make home heating more expensive, outlaw plastic bags and price food staples further out of reach.” 1,700 Private Jets Will Fly to Davos to Discuss Global Warming

The Economy

Obamanomics: It’s fair to say humility isn’t one of the president’s virtues, and so it’s no shock he took a bow for his self-declared status as savior of the American economy in his State of the Union address. He shouldn’t have.

Mission accomplished: that was President Obama’s message. Too bad so few Americans agree with him. If things are going so magnificently, maybe the White House can explain why its party took a historic whipping from angry and anxious voters in November.

Is the economy improving? Surely, it is. The dreadful 2% growth rut the U.S. experienced in Obama’s first five years of “recovery” appears to have finally ratcheted up to closer to 3% — which should be the average for 2014. Employment has picked up to a clip of about 250,000 jobs a month — a good but unspectacular pace of hiring. The official unemployment rate has dipped to 5.6%. Inflation and interest rates are low. (snip)

Obama’s only economic idea is to redistribute wealth via ever-rising taxes from the productive class and the job creators to everyone else. He bashes success and believes government activism is the engine of growth.

The enduring lesson of Obama’s slow-motion recovery is you can’t redistribute wealth until someone steps up and creates it in the first place.” The Real Obama Economy: A Subpar Recovery Drags On

Equal Pay

“On Wednesday morning Republican businesswoman Carly Fiorina asked Jarrett why, if Obama believed so passionately in equal pay, he didn’t start with the White House.

“I am struck by the fact the president hasn’t really led in this regard,” Fiorina said on Morning Joe. “He’s not paying women equally by his own measures in his own White House. …Why wouldn’t the White House take on the seniority system and say let’s pay women by merits and results?” Carly Fiorina to Valerie Jarrett: Shouldn’t Equal Pay Start at the White House?

House Republicans

Cowards. “Evidently, Republicans don’t feel competent enough to make a case against infanticide. Why else would the GOP pull its 20-week abortion-limit bill?

Here’s a short list of things that are less popular than banning late-term abortions: “Acting” on climate change. “Free” community college. Taxing the wealthy. Building the Keystone XL pipeline. President Barack Obama. Future President Hillary Clinton. Every Republican who’s thinking about running for president.

A new Marist poll finds that 84 percent of Americans favor some level of further restrictions on abortion. And regardless of their feelings about the legality of the procedure, 60 percent believe it to be “morally wrong.” If you aren’t keen on that poll — it was sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, after all — you can take your pick of others. (snip)

The Left

The Left never gives up, even though their policies continue to fail. “The fundamental problem of the political Left seems to be that the real world does not fit their preconceptions. Therefore they see the real world as what is wrong, and what needs to be changed, since apparently their preconceptions cannot be wrong. (snip)

But, by the end of the 20th century, even socialist and communist governments began abandoning central planning and allowing more market competition. Yet this quiet capitulation to inescapable realities did not end the noisy claims of the Left.

In the United States, those claims and policies have reached new heights, epitomized by government takeovers of whole sectors of the economy and unprecedented intrusions into the lives of Americans, of which Obamacare has been only the most obvious example.” The Left’s Central Delusion: Its devotion to central planning has endured from the French Revolution to Obamacare.

Obama’s Disneyland. “France has everything that Barack Obama finds wanting in his own country. His entire presidency is a prolonged effort to tear the United States away from free-market economics and decentralized political power (what the French deride as the “Anglo-Saxon model”) toward the kind of socialist, government-dominated society that France has achieved.

France is Obamaland. Government sucks up 56 percent of GDP. The state offers cradle-to-grave subsidies for child care, health, disability, unemployment, old age, and more. The welfare state discourages work in myriad ways — most French retire at age 60, and many at 55. The work week is 35 hours. (Obamacare defines it as 30 hours.) France’s labor code is 3600 pages long (sound familiar?) and makes it practically impossible to fire anyone. Shockingly, businesses are wary about hiring. France’s growth rate has averaged .3 percent annually since 2008. Everyone from taxi drivers to notary publics to dentists goes on strike at the drop of a chapeau.

All of this looks like paradise to President Obama.” France: Obama’s Paradise: The policies the president praised in the State of the Union are already on display there.

Obamacare

Typical Leftist thought: if the original regulations aren’t working as intended, just make more regulations. Yeah, that’ll work.  “Instead of calling for a rollback of regulations that have caused insurers to increase premiums and cost-sharing, however, the group calls for additional mandates, such as a requirement that insurers offer plans that would exempt certain services from the deductible; requirements for insurers to expand access to medical providers; and a mandate that every health plan (in addition to Medicare and Medicaid) cover adult dental care.

All of these mandates would drive up the price tag of insurance even more than Obamacare already has. But another proposal would increase the value of the subsidies for individuals to purchase insurance through Obamacare’s exchanges. In other words, in the Families USA vision for the future of the American health care system, more government spending would be perpetually chasing the costs imposed by more government mandates.” As GOP dawdles, liberals prepare Obamacare 2.0

I can hear the explosions from here. Emphasis mine. According to CNN Money, most Americans who receive health insurance through their work will have no problem with their 2014 tax filings. They will simply report that they have been covered with health insurance all year. For the 25 to 30 million who are not covered or who purchased insurance through the federal or state-level exchanges, they will be walking through an IRS minefield.” Get ready for a tax season nightmare, Obamacare ‘beneficiaries’

President Obama

“Obama made no effort to discuss his proposals with the leadership of the House or the Senate or to get their input because they are not being presented with the idea that they will get serious consideration. They are mere rhetorical aspirations, words that mean nothing.

If that is how the president wishes to spend the public’s time at the annual event, that is his privilege. But if the public disdains Republicans for being obstructionists who don’t care about working with their opponents, then the question arises as to why Obama’s speech is being presented as being any different from their efforts. The answer is that the same liberal media bias that has been an essential element to the president’s ability to survive scandal and failure is acting as his safety net again.

As much as the public blames Congress and dislikes the Republicans for their devotion to their principles, it is not unfair to ask the mainstream media that is heralding Obama’s proposals as another installment of the New Deal to ask themselves if there is any real difference between his ideological rigidity and that of his opponents. The honest answer, and one we’re not hearing or reading much about today, is that there is none. The obstructionist-in-chief’s “Robin Hood” plan for government will do as much to make compromise impossible as any Ted Cruz speech or the actions of House Tea Partiers and is as unlikely to become law as any Tea Party manifesto. The 2015 edition of the State of the Union speech is merely more evidence that Obama is guilty of the same sin for which his foes have been routinely denounced over the course of his presidency.” Who’s the Real Extremist? Obama or GOP?

Not that smart. “Take how smart the president has been in combating ISIS (aka ISIL and the Islamic State). On Tuesday night Mr. Obama informed us that he was asking Congress to pass a resolution to authorize the use of force against the Islamic State. This comes precisely a year after our really, really smart commander in chief referred to ISIS as a “jayvee team.” That prediction was so prescient that the president decided to deceive us about it.

Here are some other examples of the shrewdness of the president. In his speech on Tuesday, Mr. Obama declared, “We’re also supporting a moderate opposition in Syria that can help us in this effort [to defeat the Islamic State], and assisting people everywhere who stand up to the bankrupt ideology of violent extremism.” This comes after the president said last August that the notion that arming Syrian rebels would have made a difference has “always been a fantasy.” The president apparently believes that supporting what he deemed a fantasy–one military official told the press they are calling the moderate Syrian opposition “the Unicorn” because they have not been able to find it–now qualifies as Kissingerian.

The president also declared on Tuesday that “in Iraq and Syria, American leadership — including our military power — is stopping ISIL’s advance.” That would be good news–if it were true. But just last week a senior defense official was quoted in the Wall Street Journal saying, “certainly ISIL has been able to expand in Syria.” The Smartest Guy Ever to Be President Isn’t Quite As Smart As He Thinks

Obama lies

Stories of the Day

Shocking that this is being reported at Yahoo.com. Note to the middle class. Leftist policy is never designed to help you (although Leftists will say otherwise). The Left’s policies are intended to ensure there are only two classes: the elites and the rest of us.  How Obama lost the middle class

From Instapundit: “The press will do its best to hand the middle class back to whoever the Dems’ nominee is in 2016 by portraying whoever the GOP runs as an out-of-touch, scary plutocrat. This is obvious, and yet the GOP seems to be doing nothing to counter it.” “One of the emerging ironies of the Obama presidency, in fact, is the sagging fortunes of the American middle class while those on either end — rich and poor alike — have arguably fared better under Obama. The poor have been direct beneficiaries of many Obama programs — most notably, Obamacare—while the rich have benefited from a roaring stock market that has helped restore all the wealth lost during the 2008 financial meltdown, and then some. Middle earners, however, still face soaring costs for healthcare and education, while incomes have stagnated and many are sliding sideways or drifting backward.” HOW OBAMA LOST THE MIDDLE CLASS

Emphasis mine. “The Democrats could have enacted these tax increases when they controlled both houses of Congress during the first two years of the Obama administration, but they didn’t. From an economic standpoint, they are a terrible idea, and they would also discomfort the Democrats’ rich supporters, who have prospered during the Obama administration even as average Americans have suffered. The Democrats don’t want the tax increases actually to happen, they just want to blame Republicans for not enacting them–just like the Democrats didn’t enact them when they had the opportunity.

Obama’s newfound concern for the middle class is touching, but a little late. He has been president for six years, and his administration has been a disaster for middle-income Americans.” LAME DUCK OBAMA GETS OLD-TIME LEFT-WING RELIGION

If Obama was truthful, this is what he will really say tonight in his State of the Union address. Personally, I won’t be watching. I can’t listen to the lies. “Now, I know a lot of businesses who pay people hourly, like Burger King franchise owners, announced last year they will reduce employees’ hours below 30 hours a week to avoid paying for Obamacare. But I still think Congress should raise the minimum wage even though it may force businesses to cut jobs.

“For those young people who may be working part-time at Burger King and want to go to college, I’ve announced a $60 billion plan to provide two years of free community college to students. How will we pay for this? By taxing the rich more!

“As I’ve said many times, the rich (that’s really code for higher earners) need to pay their fair share. There’s no reason people who are already making lots of money because they work hard for long hours shouldn’t pay more in taxes.” If Obama Spoke Honestly, Here’s What He’d Say in State of the Union

Facts to consider while you’re listening to the president tonight tell us all how wonderful HIS economy is… “When the economic numbers have been terrible or just plain mediocre, the network newscasts have often ignored or underplayed the larger human story of jobless people struggling to survive. When there was periodically modest improvement, however brief, they made it sound like the economy was roaring back.

You would be hard-pressed to find a major story on the network news over the last six years of his presidency that really dug into the troubles of the long-term unemployed or the part-time workers that have defined Mr. Obama’s economy — and still do.

There’s been a political cover-up about how anemic the job numbers have been, and more recently in the last year or so it’s gotten worse. It’s not just about the numbers they report, but the numbers they don’t.” Hiding the real economic story: These 8 facts prove the situation in America is not normal right now.

This where we’re really at. “After five years, Reagan increased employment by 9.4 percent, whereas Obama has boosted jobs only 4.5 percent. Consequently, nearly one in six prime working age men between 25 and 54 is not working, and 72 percent of those are not even bothering to look.

Obama has made Medicaid, food stamps and social security disability quite easy to get, and idle men form a new leisure class by combining those benefits with handouts from relatives and girlfriends.

For employers, a higher minimum wage, compulsory health insurance, and sick and parental leave will make those men even more costly to hire.” The Real State of Our Union: More entitlements, taxes and unemployment

He’s not delusional. He’s just playing politics to the detriment of “we the people” as usual. “Let’s imagine you were a Democratic president who just lost control of Congress to the Republicans, and you wanted to make it really, really clear that you are not serious about governing. What would you do? Simple: Use your State of the Union address to propose hundreds of billions of dollars in new taxes that will never be enacted, in order to fund a slew of new government programs that have no chance of being approved.

Welcome to President Obama’s 2015 State of the Union address.

On Tuesday night, Obama will ask the new Republican Congress to approve$320 billion in tax increases. To see how absurd this is, imagine for a moment what the reaction would have been if, after losing control of Congress to the Democrats in 2006, President George W. Bush had used his next State of the Union address to propose $320 billion in growth-oriented tax cuts. Would anyone have taken him seriously? The media would have dismissed Bush as delusional. Democrats would have laughed. Everyone would have asked: What’s wrong with him? Didn’t he get the message of the 2006 midterms? What planet is he on?

Obama is not delusional. He knows his plan has no chance of becoming law. White House officials, according to Politico, “aren’t holding their breath that Obama’s new proposals will pass Congress now that Republicans control both chambers.” (Which raises the question why, if Obama were serious, didn’t he propose them when Democrats controlled both chambers?) The goal is for “Obama to position himself as a defender of the middle class” and put Republicans in the “politically awkward” position of resisting tax increases on the rich to pay for programs that benefit the middle class.

In other words, Obama’s move is completely and transparently political.” Obama uses his tax proposal to taunt the GOP

Mommy, mommy. Make them pay attention to me! “To that end, his proposals are now beginning to match the worst stereotype of liberal policymaking — a stereotype often unfairly applied, but which certainly fits now. Obama’s ideas are getting more expensive and more generous with other people’s money, because that’s what he believes it will take to keep the public’s attention.

Obama’s two most recent policy proposals — federally funded community college and paid sick and maternity leave — fit this populist model well. Each offers something that appears to be free, while attempting to hide the very real costs from the public.” In the face of irrelevance, Obama buys attention with other people’s money

Sleep well America—we’re in the best of hands. “Members of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology are worried about the future of U.S. weather satellites, which may include a gap in coverage that could leave the U.S. without crucial satellite data for over a year.” Why the Entire U.S. Weather Satellite System is at Risk: New report finds our next-generation weather satellites are threatened by budget overruns, blown deadlines, and mismanagement.

Creeping Sharia. “As we know by now, after the powers that be at Duke University decided to allow the Muslim call to prayer to be broadcast from the university chapel, they later changed their mind.

But fighting creeping Sharia requires constant vigilance. It should be noted that this intrusive prayer already blasts over the campus of UCLA – a publically funded institution I might add.

This is an act of Islamic supremacism.

If Muslim students at UCLA can’t figure out how to tell time or keep track of when they need to pray, that’s their problem. The call to prayer is something that is blasted over loudspeakers in Muslim majority countries and Muslim enclaves around Detroit. We’ve already heard enough “Allahu Akbar” for a lifetime.” Muslim call to prayer blasted out over UCLA

Evil. “Raising doves and pigeons is a deadly pursuit in ISIS-controlled Iraq.

The popular hobby is in the sights of extremist Islamist fighters, who this week rounded up 15 boys and young men in the eastern province of Diyala for pursuing a pastime now deemed un-Islamic. Three have already been executed, according to a security official in the area who spoke to NBC News on condition of anonymity.

Abu Abdullah, a 52-year-old farmer, told NBC News about the moment earlier this week that six gunmen barged into his home and dragged away his oldest son, who is 21.” ISIS Executes Pigeon and Bird Breeders in Diyala, Iraq

More evil. “ISIS terrorists slaughtered thirteen boys in public after they caught them watching a soccer game on TV. The boys were gunned down in Mosul and their bodies were left in the street for hours.
The New York Post reported:

ISIS jihadists publicly executed 13 teenage boys for watching a soccer match.

The young fans were reportedly watching an Asian Cup match between Iraq and Jordan on TV last week when they were caught by the militants in the Iraqi city of Mosul, which ISIS, or the Islamic State, controls.

The group of teens was executed in public by a firing squad that used machine guns, according to Raqqa Is Being Slaughtered Silently, an activist group that exposes ISIS atrocities. Before the kids were killed, their “crime” was announced over a loudspeaker, reports said.” ISIS Slaughters 13 Teen Boys in Public for Watching Soccer Game – Hangs 3 Men From Bridge

2016 Presidential Election

Have no fear Hillary. I am sure they were properly scrubbed. Huge trove of Hillary Clinton White House files set for release

Go Ted go! “Cruz has countered that to win the White House, Republicans must nominate a strong conservative who contrasts sharply with the Democratic nominee, likely Hillary Clinton.

Cruz has maintained a vigorous political travel schedule and been a constant presence in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina — hosts, in that order, of the first three 2016 primary contests. On Sunday, he was in Myrtle Beach to address the South Carolina Tea Party Coalition Convention. Cruz has cast himself as the conservative alternative in a field that could feature multiple Establishment and Tea Party candidates. That is consistent with the image Cruz has cultivated since bursting onto the national scene three years ago.” Ted Cruz builds his White House team

We need to talk about values. “In 2014, Kasich won by more than 30 points. He carried heavily Democratic counties like Lucas and Cuyahoga. In fact, in a key swing state, Kasich carried 86 of Ohio’s 88 counties and a quarter of the African-American vote. He’s also one of America’s most engaging and interesting politicians. He would add a lot to a presidential race, and in fact he probably already has, for the reason Brooks homes in on.

Governor Kasich’s inaugural speech was about values and virtues, about the good life and the good society. He spoke about economic growth as being a means to help those who live in the shadows of society. He warned about the toxicity of an ethic of instant gratification; the importance of personal responsibility, resilience, teamwork, family, and faith; and about empathy being the first ingredient in compassion.” John Kasich Shows Republicans How to Talk About Values

Will he or won’t he? “Whether or not Romney does run, every would-be GOP nominee needs to listen to and adopt the Romney opening graphs about the serial fiascos of the Clinton-Obama-Kerry-James Taylor era foreign policy. It is going to be a national security election, like 1980, where fear of America decline will be driving the debate. Whether he runs or not, Romney has already figured out the key theme for ’16.” All 2016 Republican presidential candidates should be listening to Mitt Romney

Mush. “But in fact Romney and Bush are so closely aligned ideologically that they might as well be referred to as Governor Jitt Rombush. Mr. Rombush being the endlessly ideal moderate GOP candidate of the Republican Establishment that has been regularly putting forth losing presidential nominees with names like Romney, McCain, Dole, and Ford for decades. Even when they win – Bush 2000 – they managed to lose the popular vote to Al Gore – Al Gore! – and required the Supreme Court to get in the White House door. Not to mention barely scraping by in 2004 with a skin-of-the-teeth, 100,000 votes or so in Ohio for a sitting president to defeat John Kerry. John Kerry!  Did I mention that they left the White House in 2009 with a popularity rating lower than a snake’s belly and handed the country over to the Obama Left?  Or mention that 1992 Bush 41 outing with 37% of the vote, four years after winning what was called “Reagan’s Third Term” on Reagan’s landslide coattails?” The Jitt Rombush Mushy Middle GOP

2016 Senatorial Elections

Good riddance. “Between his low approval numbers and the existence of at least one, if not more popular potential Republican challengers, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has emerged as the most vulnerable Democrat in the upcoming election cycle according to Larry Sabato.” ANALYST: HARRY REID MOST VULNERABLE DEMOCRAT IN 2016

Amnesty

They’d better not stop fighting. Or we’ll remember in November 2016. “There may well be other acceptable, effective ways to confront the president’s power grab. The one unacceptable option: watching the current DHS proposal fail and then proposing a new “clean” funding bill. Voting to fund an agency that is implementing an unconstitutional order without cavil would amount to surrender. Republicans can and should do better, for the sake of our constitutional order and the people who live under it.” Don’t Give Up the Fight

Hollywood

Go see it. And bring a box of Kleenex. “American Sniper” had the largest opening ever on Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, or any weekend in January. It has played especially well in Middle America, with its top-grossing theaters in places like San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Houston and Albuquerque.

All of this is profoundly disquieting to the left, which has so much sway in Hollywood. It hates and distrusts the idea of the war hero, believing it smacks of backwardness and jingoism. Its notion of compelling war movies were the tendentiously anti-war flops “Green Zone,” “Stop-Loss” and “In the Valley of Elah.” Its reaction to “American Sniper” has been to belittle the movie and smear Chris Kyle.

Actor Seth Rogen compared “American Sniper” to the Nazi propaganda film featured in the movie “Inglourious Basterds.” Director Michael Moore tweeted that he’d been taught to consider snipers cowards. Kyle “was a hate-filled killer,” according to The Guardian, which also deems him “a racist who took pleasure in dehumanizing and killing brown people.” Americans love war heroes, despite what Hollywood liberals think

Economy

Not learning from history AGAIN. “That panic would not have occurred, Wallison argues, had not the government sparked the creation of defective securities and had not government regulations masked their defects. Private firms, after all, do not buy assets that they believe will become worthless.

Could it happen again? Wallison points out that government regulators are once again reducing the credit standards for mortgage seekers. The argument, as in the 1990s and 2000s, is that traditional standards are misleading and unduly prevent low-income and minority households from buying homes.

Fannie and Freddie are now purchasing the large majority of mortgages and announced last month they would buy mortgages with only 3 percent down payments. The qualified mortgage standards laid down by HUD and other regulators in October allowed for mortgages with zero down payments.

That sounds like a recipe for another housing bubble — and for mass foreclosures, which hurt the policies’ intended beneficiaries — and perhaps for another financial crisis as well.” Government created the housing and financial crises — and might be doing it again

The Democrats have never met a tax they didn’t like. “These are the major factors that contribute to “risky” lending. A tax on banks is not going to reduce it. If President Obama truly wanted to help the middle class (a marxist term–why must any of us be reduced to “class”?), why not stop the guaranteeing of mortgage loans and relax the CRA requirements? That will help banks, and ultimately the middle class in the form of lower interest rates, much more than taxing big banks.” Will taxing big banks really help the middle class?

Europe

Does not anyone study and learn from history anymore? “Jews with a conscience should leave Holland, where they and their children have no future, leave for the U.S. or Israel,” advised Frits Bolkestein, the former EU commissioner and head of the Dutch Liberal party. “Anti-Semitism will continue to exist, because the Moroccan and Turkish youngsters don’t care about efforts for reconciliation.”

Thus, posterity’s jest. Pre-war Europeans would never have entertained for a moment the construction of mosques from Malmö to Marseilles. But post-war Holocaust guilt, and the revulsion against nationalism and the embrace of multiculturalism and mass immigration, enabled the Islamization of Europe. The principal beneficiaries of the Continent’s penance for the great moral stain of the 20th century turned out to be the Muslims — with the Jews on the receiving end, yet again.” A Judenrein Europe

Forewarning. “Non-Jewish non-Muslim Europeans may not realize it, but the bell is tolling for them, too.” Mark Steyn on the disappearing Jews of Europe

House of Representatives

Emphasis mine. “Now comes this article in National Journal entitled: “Boehner Foes Get Gavels, Not Punishment,” and subtitled “The speaker’s allies are annoyed that GOP rebels are getting top subcommittee slots. (snip)

The only constant seems to be the constant carping within the Republican Party. But Boehner certainly doesn’t seem to be at fault here, and the reports that he was taking revenge were (IMHO) efforts to stir up reactive anger on the part of conservatives.

I would caution all conservatives to be alert to the very real possibility that the press is trying to fan the flames of your ire, and that you are sometimes being manipulated.” Remember all those articles about Boehner taking revenge on those who’d opposed his Speakership…

Obamacare

Liars everywhere in Obama’s government. “Embattled Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Marilyn Tavenner is resigning her post overseeing Obamacare just months after she admitted that the Obama White House’s highly publicized 8 million Obamacare enrollment figure was inflated by at least 1.3 million.

“The mistake we made is unacceptable,” said Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell. “I will be communicating that clearly throughout the department.” TOP OBAMACARE CHIEF RESIGNS IN WAKE OF PHONY FIGURES FIASCO

2015 is going to be a really bad year for Obamacare, but will Boehner and McConnell help to get rid of this monstrosity? “Now, you know this is a lie because the Democrats’ lips are moving, but also because no one has been more snuggled up to Wall Street than President Robin Hood. The Democrats are now the party of the very, very, very rich and the indigent and the indolent: they don’t give a damn about the middle class except as it affects them at the ballot box.

Forget the details about Obamacare, whether it works or it doesn’t (it doesn’t); whether it was a noble intention (it wasn’t); whether it can be fixed (it can’t). Instead concentrate on the principle behind the thing: a breathtaking Leftist power grab, so long sought and finally achieved. It’s not the end; it’s only the beginning, unless it is ripped out, root and branch before it’s too late. Over to you, John Boehner and Mitch McConnell.

Yeah, right…” The Greatest Scam in American History Is About to Hit Home

Sergeant Bergdahl

If it weren’t for Fox News, and Bill O’Reilly, we’d be hearing nothing of this. “Army Gen. Ken Dahl, who conducted the investigation, has certainly been under pressure to do it right. So too is Army Gen. Mark Milley, who, based on Dahl’s findings, will make the ultimate decision on whether to charge Bergdahl. Both generals know that the White House is watching them closely, as is America, and as are military servicemen and women worldwide. Very closely. And we can guess what the White House wants.

In White House terms, not charging Bergdahl means that he was indeed worth the trade for the Taliban Five. But charging him on any level means that releasing the five Taliban was an error of monstrous proportions, one the administration will never be able to explain away satisfactorily.” Is nervous Obama White House holding Bergdahl report hostage?

Socialism

Socialism NEVER works. “As socialism plays out to its logical conclusion in Venezuela, the specters of long lines, rationing, troop enforcers, bizarre edicts and desperate statements are now the order of the day.

Not only have more than a dozen Venezuelans been arrested for posting photographs of empty store shelves on social media, three governors have responded to long lines by — prohibiting them; ordering the arrest of anyone who lines up for goods before sunrise.

Troops now supervise lines because so many fistfights and looting incidents break out in these daily 12-hour ordeals for rice or toilet paper. Warehouses full of diapers have been seized and their owners accused of “hoarding.” Strange arrangements have cropped up, too, with the rich paying the poor to spend their days in line for them, securing supplies so they don’t have to. (snip)

“Nobody has been willing to call a spade a spade,” he said, citing an unwillingness even among Venezuela’s opposition to characterize the effects of socialism on the poor. “They’ve always been in awe of (the late strongman Hugo) Chavez, and never understood that (the largess of his socialism) was fueled by an unsustainable oil boom and it was going to collapse.”

Thanks to socialism, the country is falling apart. This week, UBS investment bank estimated that Venezuela had an 80% likelihood of default this year.” Shortages Undermine Venezuela’s Teetering Socialism

Just Because the Mainstream Media Isn’t Telling You About It, Doesn’t Mean You Shouldn’t Know About It: News You Should Know for January 17

don't believe the liberal media

Stories of the Day

Shhh. Don’t tell anyone. She’s a Democrat. Emphasis mine. “Ever wonder how lowly paid lawmakers leave office filthy rich?

Sen. Dianne Feinstein is showing how it’s done.

The US Postal Service plans to sell 56 buildings — so it can lease space more expensively — and the real estate company of the California senator’s husband, Richard Blum, is set to pocket about $1 billion in commissions.

Blum’s company, CBRE, was selected in March 2011 as the sole real estate agent on sales expected to fetch $19 billion. Most voters didn’t notice that Blum is a member of CBRE’s board and served as chairman from 2001 to 2014.” Senator’s husband stands to profit big from government deal

Obama and Kerry have made us a laughing stock. I highly recommend that you click on over and read the whole thing. It’s too good not to read in its entirety. “It is no small irony that an administration that came into office determined to work with the international community, and our allies rather than to be Bush-like unilateral cowboys, is now reduced to this sort of nonsense. What the French or any ally wants is not a touchy-feely Oldies song but a sense that the U.S. believes it is still part of the war against international terror. To the contrary, Obama’s instincts are such that allies have come to expect his contempt or disinterest in their problems.

Kerry’s cringe-inducing turn hosting his friend Taylor isn’t the dumbest thing he has done at the State Department by a long shot. Having faith in Mahmoud Abbas as a champion of peace and signing a weak nuclear deal with Iran are hard to top. But is an iconic moment that will symbolize Obama and Kerry’s ham-handed approach to allies. A song, even a folk rock classic that allows Kerry to reminisce about his youth spent falsely testifying against his fellow Vietnam vets, can’t substitute for a strong stand against Islamists or even the ability to say the word. Prior to this, it was possible to argue that U.S. foreign policy had become a joke. But after Taylor had finished warbling, even the president and his inner White House circle must be wondering what sort of a fool they’ve unleashed on the world.” Allies Know They Haven’t “Got a Friend” in Obama’s America

Of course they do. “On Friday, while all three network morning shows covered Secretary of State John Kerry arriving in Paris to offer U.S. condolences following the recent terrorist attacks, none of the broadcasts mentioned one of the most embarrassing moments in American diplomatic history that occurred during the visit – Kerry bringing musician James Taylor to a press conference to sing “You’ve Got A Friend” to the French people.” Networks Ignore John Kerry’s Embarrassing James Taylor Stunt in Paris

Unreal. “Barack Obama on Friday conducted an almost hour-long news conference with journalists, but faced no questions on his administration’s much-maligned decision not to send a representative to last Sunday’s massive anti-terror rally in France. ABC journalist Jon Karl wondered if the President had any thoughts on Mitt Romney possibly running for president again.

After a nearly 20 minute preamble, Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron finally got to reporters. After offering up a tough question, Karl lobbed this softball: “If I may, Mr. President, I really like would hear your reaction to the news that Mitt Romney is thinking about running for president again.” Obama brushed that aside with a simple retort: “…I have no comment.” At Obama Press Conference, No Questions On Skipping Anti-Terror Rally

From yesterday’s press event with UK’s Prime Minister David Cameron and President Obama. Emphasis mine. “Reading Obama’s remarks is far easier than watching him make them. Obama’s prepared statement at the outset of the press conference is detached, condescending, evasive, self-referential, and altogether embarrassing.

There is much more of interest in Obama’s remarks, and Cameron’s, especially on Iran (long story short: sickening), but also the threat posed by “foreign fighters” emerging from Syria. For present purposes, I want to note only the new set of verbal gymnastics performed by Obama to avoid any reference to Islamist terrorism while Cameron was specifically decrying it and its associated “poisonous, fanatical death cult.” Obama limited himself to expressions of concern about “the phenomenon of violent extremism.”

With Cameron at his side, everyone could understand what Obama meant. Given the side-by-side contrast with Cameron, however, the verbal gymnastics performed by Obama had a slightly higher degree of difficulty than usual.” IF YOU HAD A FRIEND

No wonder they’re playing video games. “Reasonable risks are essential for children’s healthy development,” says Joe Frost, an influential safety crusader.” The Overprotected Kid: A preoccupation with safety has stripped childhood of independence, risk taking, and discovery—without making it safer. A new kind of playground points to a better solution.

This is what happens when you let the wusses (i.e. progressives) run things. “A pensioner who says local children made his life ‘hell’ put anti-vandal paint on his garden fence to stop them climbing on it and throwing stones at his windows.

Robert Brown also reported the youngsters to police and was delighted when officers came round to speak to him.

He assumed it was to take details of his plight – and was shocked to learn he was being prosecuted for criminal damage because the children had got the paint over their clothes.

Their mother alleged that almost £4,000 worth of furniture and carpets had been ruined by the youngsters treading the paint, which does not dry and leaves surfaces slippery, into her house.” Pensioner whose life was ‘made hell’ by local children is charged… because his anti-vandal paint ruined yobs’ clothes

Voting for these is one thing. Making actually carrying through with them is quite another. “With your inspiration, this new Congress is hard at work. Here are four things the House has already voted to do:

Lift the burden on small businesses so they can hire more of our veterans without penalties;

Repeal ObamaCare’s absurd 30-hour work-week definition so we can get people working again full-time;

Build the Keystone XL pipeline, with its more than 42,000 American jobs and safe energy for our children’s future, friends and allies;

Force bureaucratic agencies to regulate with more honesty, thrift and transparency.

These measures are only the beginning.

Now President Obama doesn’t agree with our direction, the one that you, the voters, asked us to take, and he has threatened to block your progress. But we challenge him to listen to the people instead of standing in the way of your future.” GOP: Restoring Americans’ 40-hour work week

2016 Presidential Election

Her silence won’t matter because most people aren’t paying attention. “In the days since the Charlie Hebdo massacre, the response from American politicians has ranged from pathetic to parodic. Through his press secretary, President Obama expressed regret on Monday that neither he nor any other high-ranking American official joined 44 world leaders who marched alongside millions in Paris last weekend. Then on Friday, in an effort to make amends, Secretary of State John Kerry brought James Taylor to Paris to sing “You’ve Got a Friend.”

The response from Hillary Clinton, the former secretary of state and likely 2016 Democratic presidential nominee, hasn’t been any better. Clinton has remained silent about the Charle Hebdo massacre since it occurred on January 7.” Hillary Clinton’s Charlie Hebdo Problem

Pictures from a very, very long time ago. Hillary Clinton: A Life in Pictures (Vol. 1)

Cuba

Anyone surprised? “In a move that has angered lawmakers and activists in the United States, the Cuban government has rearrested two political prisoners from the list of 53 whose release had been negotiated by the U.S.
According to independent media sources in Cuba, Ronaldo Reyes Rabanal and Luís Enrique Labrador – along with other activists – were arrested while attending a meeting of the opposition group, Movement for a New Republic. Lazara María Borrego Guzmán, a member of the Ladies in White opposition movement, was also allegedly arrested during the meeting and Cuban officials allegedly broke her arm.” Two of the 53 dissidents released by Cuba rearrested

Illegal Immigration

Key word: “Boasting.” “The Department of Health and Human Services is touting its handling of last summer’s massive influx of unaccompanied alien children in an end-of-year report, despite the fact that its own failures worsened the situation.

Nearly 58,000 unaccompanied alien children arrived before the end of fiscal year 2014, almost as many as arrived in the past five years combined, according to the report from HHS’s Office of Refugee Resettlement.” The Obama Administration Is Now Boasting About How Many Illegal Alient Immigrant Children It Resettled This Summer

Islamist Extremism

Good for Bill. “Remember when Berkeley students protested a commencement speech by Bill Maher because he said that Islam is the only religion that’s like the Mafia and will “fucking kill you” if you say or write the wrong thing? Well, considering the Charlie Hebdo shooting last week, Maher had something to say to those Berkeley students: how is it that I’m the problem? (snip)

He explained that liberals are perfectly fine using bullying when, for instance, they denounce his views as bigoted or call for Rush Limbaugh to go off the airwaves. Maher said that if you really want Limbaugh off the air, you’re not a true liberal, you’re just a “baby” who doesn’t like hearing different opinions.

And to Muslims who might be offended by people insulting Islam, Maher explained that’s exactly how he feels about weed. But when someone criticizes weed, he doesn’t threaten violence or bully them into silence, he just goes, “Good, more for me.” Maher Rips Liberals for ‘Extreme Bullying’ on Islam: You’re Part of the Problem

And she’s a Democrat. “Representative and Iraq War veteran Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) argued that the Obama administration “refuses to recognize who our enemy is” on Friday’s “Situation Room” on CNN.

“It sickens me, Wolf, like so many other people who I served with and service members, who served both in Iraq and in other places, unfortunately we lost friends there who paid that ultimate price, and what is so frustrating now as we look at the situation there, our administration refuses to recognize who our enemy is. And unless and until that happens, then it’s impossible to come up with a strategy to defeat that enemy. We have to recognize that this is about radical Islam, this is as much a military war as it is an ideological war, and we’ve got to understand what that ideology is and challenge it, understand it so that we can defeat it and protect our citizens, protect the American people.” DEM REP GABBARD: OBAMA ADMIN ‘REFUSES TO RECOGNIZE WHO OUR ENEMY IS’

Using grievance for political purposes. “Simply put, victimology is the language and currency of our politics. Fighting for victims is a calling and minting new victims and grievances is a trillion-dollar industry. Heroism, fidelity, courage, duty, temperance: Their stock value may be volatile but the long-term trends have been bad for a while. But guilt and resentment are the gold and silver of our realm, a perfect hedge against the civilizational recession.” Victims Über Alles: The Left’s Islamophobia obsession shows the extent to which victimology dominates our politics.

Yes, it is. And thank you sir, for being brave enough to state the truth that President Obama and his Leftist fellow travelers refuse to say. “‘Let’s be honest here. Islam has a problem.”

Those are key sentences in an incredibly hard-hitting speech that Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal will give in London on Monday. It is the toughest speech I have read on the whole issue of Islamic radicalism and its destructive, murdering, barbarous ways which are upsetting the entire world.

Early in the speech Jindal says he’s not going to be politically correct. And he uses the term “radical Islamists” without hesitation, placing much of the blame for the Paris murders and all radical Islamist terrorism on a refusal of Muslim leaders to denounce these acts.” Jindal’s Brilliant Take on Radical Islam: The problem and solution reside with the people of the Islamic religion themselves.

Who says we’re not going to like this? “You’re not going to like this.

Our commander-in-chief is recklessly releasing jihadists from Guantanamo Bay. The president’s Bush-deranged base is buoyed by the all-out effort to fulfill his vow to shut down the detention camp. But the vast majority of Americans remain opposed, and increasingly alarmed. The pace of releases has surged since November’s midterm elections, with over two-dozen detainees sprung — aiding the enemy even as the terror threat intensifies.

But if you want it stopped, the president has to be impeached.” There Is Only One Way to Stop Obama from Setting Jihadists Free: Short of impeachment, there is really nothing Congress can do.

Scary… “This week, Pentagon officials began calling up retired generals to let them know that their home addresses, private e-mails and other personal information had appeared in a document that was publicized globally by a group claiming to support Islamic State.

The phone calls began after the Twitter and YouTube accounts of the U.S. military’s Central Command were briefly taken over by hackers who claimed to be part of IS. The Pentagon downplayed the hack, calling it “cyber-vandalism,” and stressed that the vandals did not penetrate any of the military’s classified information networks.

And while it’s true that the brief defacement of the Pentagon’s social media accounts was no great accomplishment in terms of cyber-warfare, the hack is actually a different kind of terrorist attack altogether: doxing.

The practice of doxing, or publishing people’s personal information online, is usually used to unmask hackers on Web forums or annoy figures in the news. It’s a way to deprive an online outlaw of his anonymity or a public figure of his or her privacy. In this case, the posting of the personal data of retired military officers is part of a different kind of strategy, to sow terror among men and women in uniform.” Islamic State’s Psychological War on U.S. Troops

This is who we’re letting teach our children at university. “Several of Dr. Safi’s Facebook posts have revealed him as an anti-Israel radical and an apologist for the Palestinian Hamas terror group. He has in the recent past described Israel as a terror state and has also pleaded with his followers to support the anti-Israel and anti-Semitic BDS (Boycott, Divest, and Sanctions) movement.” MEET THE RADICAL PROFESSOR AT THE CENTER OF THE CONTROVERSY FOR ISLAMIC PRAYERS AT DUKE UNIVERSITY

The IRS

Emphasis mine. “Imagine what would happen if a retail store or company like Best Buy or Home Depot announced it has plans to slash customer service, that it will make people stand in lines for at least a half hour, and that any customer due a refund will have to wait several weeks.

Oh, and it may not be able to prevent identity theft.

That company would probably soon find itself in chapter 11 bankruptcy as shoppers fled to other banks or stores or restaurants where they can get first class service.  That’s what America is about and every businessman and woman knows the customer always comes first.

What is amazing is that Washington demands full accountability and accuracy from tax filers, but the tax collection department is the least accountable agency of government.

But the Internal Revenue Service now says that taxpayers had better get used to shabby service from the tax collection agency. And the IRS is hardly an agency known for warm and friendly service to begin with.” 2015: It’s time to fire the IRS

Jews in Europe

Are we really going to let history repeat itself? “I’m not super-religious, but France has changed. We keep to ourselves a bit, we spend time with Jewish friends, and people are scared. We don’t feel safe like before.” He says a lot of his Jewish friends are considering emigrating now. (snip)

“I like Valls, I believe what he says. He took on Dieudonné [the controversial comedian], but what will happen after the march?” Freoa said, referring to the four million people who took to the streets in France on Sunday in solidarity with the 17 victims of the three jihadis.

“I don’t believe anything will happen. Look at the schools that refused to observe the minute of silence. There’s only one person taking advantage of it, and that’s Marine le Pen (the extreme-right Front National leader). She’s not for us,” he said. “In a few days it will be like nothing happened. In two months we’ll be called filthy Jews again.” French Jewish exodus: ‘In two months we’ll be called filthy Jews again’: After the attack on the kosher supermarket, Félix Freoa and his family have brought forward their departure from Paris

“Unprecedented.” “The surge of French Jews emigrating to Israel is unprecedented in the post-World War II era. Last year, for the first time, France exceeded the United States for Jews making aliyah — the Hebrew term for “going up” to Israel, a core element of the Zionist movement.

Pretending economic factors have driven this pattern denies decades of history, when European economic downturns did not produce such an outflow. Last year, Jews from France emigrated to Israel in numbers that exceeded the peak of 5,292 set in 1969, in the wake of Israel’s victory in the Six-Day War.” Exodus Chart: Shocking Graph Shows French Jews Fleeing to Israel in Historic Numbers

K-12

Obama’s Hope and Change not working, or is it? “For the first time in at least 50 years, a majority of U.S. public school students come from low-income families, according to a new analysis of 2013 federal data, a statistic that has profound implications for the nation.

The Southern Education Foundation reports that 51 percent of students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade in the 2012-2013 school year were eligible for the federal program that provides free and reduced-price lunches. The lunch program is a rough proxy for poverty, but the explosion in the number of needy children in the nation’s public classrooms is a recent phenomenon that has been gaining attention among educators, public officials and researchers.” Majority of U.S. public school students are in poverty
