Stories of the Day
First Obama came to takeover health care, and now this. “The steady trickle of irksomely fustian yet relatively measly climate-change-related regulations, executive orders, grandiose speeches, and frightening studies the Obama administration has been releasing in recent months to quell environmentalist anger have all been leading up to this:The big one.
The EPA will launch the most dramatic anti-pollution regulation in a generation early next month, a sweeping crackdown on carbon that offers President Barack Obama his last real shot at a legacy on climate change — while causing significant political peril for red-state Democrats.
The move could produce a dramatic makeover of the power industry, shifting it away from coal-burning plants toward natural gas, solar and wind. While this is the big move environmentalists have been yearning for, it also has major political implications in November for a president already under fire for what the GOP is branding a job-killing “War on Coal,” and promises to be an election issue in energy-producing states such as West Virginia, Kentucky and Louisiana.” Oh, rapture: Obama administration to release regs on existing power plants next month
For the global warming alarmists, it is really all about the money. Here’s more proof. “Interesting story from Breitbart about the German government out and out falsifying an IPCC report that criticizes their green subsidy policy as “useless.” Either the German government got the worst translator in history or they are covering up the failure of their policies.
The ministry’s four-page summary of the report contains outright contradictions and falsifications of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) recommendations, apparently made to hide UN criticism of the way the German government has turned emissions-trading into a cash cow for futile renewable energy projects.” For warming advocates, when in doubt – lie
He’s going to fundamentally transform the country alright, whether we like it or not. “Has the Obama administration set the U.S. on the “B1 emissions path”? The B1 emissions pathway was defined in an obscure IPCC report published fourteen years ago (and since superseded), titled the Special Report on Emission Scenarios (SRES). Four scenarios were presented:
- A1: “strong commitment to market-based solutions” and “high rates ofinvestment and innovation in education [and] technology.”
- B2: “international institutions decline in importance, with a shift toward local and regional decision-making structures and institutions.”
- A2: “some regions move toward stronger welfare systems and reduced income inequality, while others move toward “leaner” government and more heterogeneous income distributions.”
- B1 was dubbed the “global utopia pathway” by Michael Mann in his book “Dire Predictions.” It has the most significant reduction of greenhouse gases, but the IPCC cautions that it “may adversely affect the economic efficiency and functioning of world markets.” [Snip] Skeptics who argue that the global warming movement is motivated by Marxist politics, not “settled science,” are treated with derision as conspiracy nuts. Obama’s endorsement of the B1 scenario’s miscellany of anti-capitalism, communitarian ideologies and totalitarian schemes clearly reinforces the contention that green is the new red.” Obama Endorses the Orwellian ‘B1 Emissions Path’
“If the crisis is this dire, it’s already too late. Also, don’t these people read what the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is saying? There is no rise in sea level. Storms are no worse now than they were decades ago. The earth hasn’t warmed in 17 years. If you’re going to justify this action based on “climate change,” why ignore the one internationalgroup of scientists who are charged by the UN to investigate? The reason is that this is not about saving the earth. It is about control. Even if you accept the theory of global warming, there is no way you can prove that the measures being ordered by the EPA would reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere by one, single molecule. That’s because countries like China, who are building a coal burning electric plant every month – are not subject to any mandated reduction in CO2 emissions. Ditto for India. For every molecule of carbon dioxide we don’t put into the atmosphere, someone else will do it for us. In short, the rationale for burdening Americans with these new regs is non existent.” EPA readies rules on CO2
Get ready for a rise in energy prices. “It’s not just the coal industry that’s losing sleep over the rule. Manufacturers and industries like oil refining have been eyeing the power plant regulations as the starting gun for a process that will eventually lead to greenhouse gas limits for a wide variety of businesses. “These regulations could reduce the diversity of our energy supply, increase electricity and compliance costs for American businesses and shrink our competitiveness,” said Ross Eisenberg, vice president for energy and resources policy at the National Association of Manufacturers. “We can’t sit by silently while that happens.” President Obama’s big carbon crackdown readies for launch
Power grab on steroids. “The most important thing about this fight is what the EPA is not publicly saying. The entire anti-Pebble action is an attempt by the EPA to subvert existing public law so as to set itself up as the sole regulator of watersheds nationwide, usurping statutory authority given the Army Corps of Engineers and the states. This is a test case for a massive power grab. And if they get away with unilaterally expanding their authority, there will be no end to their obstruction, as they will effectively have nationalized control of all development from now until when a Congress and administration steps in to stop them. “ Alaska Responds to EPA power grab
Common sense comes to one westernized country. “Australia’s ruling conservative coalition government is delivering on a campaign promise made last year to severerly cut environmental regulations and spending on climate change – including the elimination of a carbon tax that Prime Minister Tony Abbott refers to as “economic vandalism.” Spending will be slashed from more than $5 billion this year to around $500 million in 5 years. [Snip] The liberals screwed up the economy so bad that Abbott’s coalition won an historic landslide victory last year. Abbott’s “conservatism” is hardly comparable to the right in America. The two sides are not that far apart on most economic matters, and Abbott wouldn’t dare touch most of the social safety net. But he’s got the right idea about environmental policy and Australia should be applauded for showing some common sense.” Australia to cut spending on climate change by 90%

We’re not dumb. “News quiz: President Obama and his communications team hope that Americans are: 1) Dumb; 2) Distracted; 3) Numb to government inefficiency; 4) All of above. Answer: 4, all of the above. That answer along with utter incompetence are the best explanations for why the White House thought it could get away with claiming that the departure of Veterans Affairs official Robert Petzel was a step toward accountability for its scandalous treatment of war veterans. Fact is, the department announced in 2013 that Dr. Petzel would retire this year. [Snip] No. This was neither a termination nor a housecleaning. It was a scapegoating. For all of its 21st-century savvy in the field of campaign technology, the Obama White House has repeatedly proven that its communications philosophy is stuck in the 20th century. Before the Internet gave voters instantaneous access to information, including every public utterance of the president and his team, White House strategists could hope to wear out the truth: If you said a lie enough, people might believe it.” Quiz: How Dumb Does Obama Think We Are? The Veterans Affairs policy fiasco is magnified by an insulting-public relations strategy.
I have friends that voted for Obama because they wanted smaller government. Seriously! “The lessons of the VA would still be a problem for Obama and for liberals generally. Why? Because the Democratic party simply is the party of government. [Snip]You would think that liberals, out of a desire to protect their brand, would worry more about making sure government handled what is already on its plate better before worrying about adding new responsibilities. This administration, and this president in particular, has insisted that they should be judged by their competence and intelligence. They’ve laid down markers that they will prove that liberalism can go big because they’re just so darn smart and good. That creates a bind for this president. Was fixing the VA a priority or not? If it was a priority, how come after almost six years, it’s such a godawful mess? Are you just not up to the job of managing it? And, if it wasn’t a priority, why not? Were you just pandering to veterans? Neither answer is good for this president — or for liberalism.” The VA and the Limits of Liberalism
We’ve got to stop apologizing. “Who gives the left their power? We do, every time we surrender. While visiting in Maryland, I was blessed with another cherished chat with my dad, who just celebrated his 86th birthday. His mind is as sharp as ever. Praise God! Dad is chaplain emeritus for the Baltimore City Fire Department. He only speaks at special events. Dad said he was called on the carpet by a department official after a recent event. One highly offended individual at the event complained that dad ended his prayer with “in Jesus’s name.” Dad told the official that he could no more deny Jesus than he could deny that he is black. Note: Dad did not apologize, beg for forgiveness, or vow never to do it again. The official let it go. Who gives the left their power? We do.” The Answer to Rush Limbaugh’s Question
Manufactured crisis apparently. “Reports by the Economic Policy Institute (EPI), the RAND Corporation, the Urban Institute, and the National Research Council have all found no evidence that STEM workers are in short supply. PBS even published an opinion piece based on the EPI study entitled, “The Bogus High-Tech Worker Shortage: How Guest Workers Lower U.S. Wages.” This is PBS, mind you, which is as likely to publish something skeptical of immigration as it is to publish something skeptical of taxpayer subsidies for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. RAND’s analysis looked backward in time and found, “Despite recurring concerns about potential shortages of STEM personnel . . . we did not find evidence that such shortages have existed at least since 1990, nor that they are on the horizon.” What STEM Shortage? The sector isn’t seeing wage growth and has more graduates than jobs.
“The compassionate move often isn’t what it seems. Obama’s unconstitutional and unilateral DREAM amnesty has led to a huge surge in illegal alien minors crossing into the US. Since the Border Patrol was forced by Obama Inc. to begin sending minors to local relatives, the number of minors increased including children so young that their crossing is downright dangerous to them. Because of Obama’s pro-alien move, there are twelve-year olds making the risky crossing. [Snip] The only way to discourage parents is to stop creating a magnet. Obama created the magnet. The only way to turn it off is to abort the illegal DREAM amnesty and all talk of amnesty. Anything else leads to this.” Obama’s DREAM Amnesty Leads to Huge Surge in Illegal Alien Minors Invading US
Why do Democrats want to punish our young people who are already citizens? If they’ve been paying attention, hundreds of young people are being turned down from joining the military because its being shrunk in size, and now we want to make illegals eligible, to compete with our own citizens? “We’re cutting the military to the bone but we should enlist the children of illegal aliens to get them eligible for the DREAM Act? Isn’t that sort of the wrong reason to enlist? Color me old fashioned, but I always thought that signing up for military servivce was a calling, a desire to serve, to belong to something greater than yourself. Silly me – I forgot about the priority to get illegals legalized. Most cities ignore immigration law anyway, but what about criminals who are caught and here illegally? I guess we should just let them go to continue their stellar careers as lawbreaking, dangerous felons. Why not? The administration just released 36,000 criminal illegal aliens back into the population. What could go wrong? The same might be asked of passing immigration reform. The answer is plenty, unless you believe advocates like Guitierrez who supports ignoring the law of the land to win political favor with Hispanics.” Immigration reform advocate says ignore federal immigration laws
Myths. “Due mostly to Jeff Sessions’ heroic efforts, most people now admit that importing tens of millions of low-skilled workers will not be good for America’s working class citizens. I’m glad we finally got that established! But the Chamber of Commerce and plutocrats like Mark Zuckerberg continue to insist that we need to import more high-tech workers, and some Republicans seem to be going along. The facts, however, are to the contrary. On Friday, several leading academics participated in a conference call on this issue. I was not able to take part, but Breitbart News has a report:
Four prominent scholars on Friday questioned why the high-tech industry gets a free pass to perpetuate the myth that there is a shortage of American workers in jobs related to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). …
Hal Salzman, a Rutgers University public policy professor, said current wages in the high-tech and information technology (IT) industries do not reflect a labor shortage. “Average wages in IT today are the same as they were when Bill Clinton was president well over a decade ago,” Salzman said. “So one has to wonder if there is in fact a shortage, why doesn’t that reflect in the market? Why don’t wages go up?” … GOP: DON’T BLOW IT ON IMMIGRATION!
Answer the questions already. “Until these questions are answered, we are left with the strong possibility that the lethal attacks might have been deterred with adequate security, or even neutralizedin mediis rebus: that high administration officials subsequently and deliberately misled the public, the U.N., our allies, and the relatives of the dead; that the president of the United States did not consider the attacks a crisis, or at least a crisis that could offer political opportunities, and subsequently and knowingly lied about the causes of the attack; that the U.S. government deliberately jailed a U.S. legal resident for reasons other than those alleged; that a U.S. election was influenced by administration deception; that the U.S. government was engaged in covert actions that might have been connected to the violence or were themselves ill conceived; that top intelligence officials did not tell the truth; and that almost immediately top administration handlers chose to construct a fantasy in lieu of reporting the facts about the death of four Americans.”Benghazi Constructs: Much is still murky, but the Obama team was at the least guilty of negligence and deception.
Big Money in Politics
Shhhh. “Interesting report from the Washington Free Beacon on the shadowy Soros-backed group Democracy Alliance, who plan to spend nearly $40 million this year funding liberal political and policy groups.
The documents reveal for the first time the Democracy Alliance’s full portfolio of supported organizations, a large network of powerful liberal groups looking to win key electoral and legislative victories.
The Democracy Alliance connects major Democratic donors with some of the largest and most influential liberal activist groups in the country. Previous beneficiaries, such as the Center for American Progress and Media Matters for America, are set to get millions more in 2014.
The list also reveals DA support for newer organizations, such as Organizing for Action, the advocacy group that succeeded President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign. That group has received official sanction from the White House, and operates websites and social media accounts branded with the president’s name. [Snip]
Anonymity for we, but not for thee. One interesting recipient of the cash is Organizing for America – the offshoot of President Obama’s campaign organization that is so in bed with the White House they are going to name their first child after Obama. Read the whole article for a breakdown in which far left groups are being heavily funded by secretive billionaires.” Democracy Alliance fills the coffers of liberal activist groups
“Left wing eco-billionaire Tom Steyer has formally purchased Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.). Steyer recently donated $5 million to Senate Majority PAC, the pro-Democratic Super PAC run by former Reid aides, making him the single largest contributor to the group. The transaction is related to Steyer’s broader effort to buy American democracy for $100 million and block construction of the wildly popular Keystone XL pipeline. In fact, news of Steyer’s donation comes just days after Senate Democrats helped kill a bipartisan energy efficiency bill after Republicans tried to require a vote on Keystone approval. It also highlights the absurdity of Harry Reid’s senile jihad against the billionaire Koch brothers. Reid has accused the Kochs of “trying to buy America,” while insisting that Steyer is a benign billionaire who is simply “concerned about climate change.” Tom Steyer Buys Harry Reid
“Some liberals have also encouraged reforms, but — ironically, given the historical context — they are usually opposed by progressives. Particularly in Democratic-controlled cities, progressives have established their own mayoral candidates and wings within city councils and reliably squelch moderate reforms that would help businesses or streamline government. The progressives’ reflexive faith in bureaucracy, following decades of counter-evidence, has led many of the cities where they have been strong to spiral into crisis. Detroit and Stockton are bankrupt, and finances are precarious in Chicago, Oakland, Cleveland, and other cities where governance from the left has prevailed. The best hope for combating urban decline is for conservatives to package their ideas into a broader urban agenda. This is key both to the Republican party’s future in an urbanizing nation and to the future of cities, many of which, after brief spells of moderate government, are reenacting the progressivism that first brought decline. The Nation recently heralded de Blasio’s election as a sign of a shift back toward progressivism in cities generally. If the mayor’s start is any indication, this will mean the city’s further regression into unsustainable governance — already he has, besides opposing charter schools, granted $2.5 billion in retroactive raises for city teachers. Such decisions will likely lead to urbanites’ begging again for reforms. But they must note who has proposed them: small-government conservatives, not “progressives,” who now mock their name and original mission by embodying the very machine politics that they once fought.” The New Civil-Service Reform: Urban America’s government-reform movement is now a conservative cause.
“Consider these efforts by Washington along with the use of the EPA to crush businesses and the order of the Department of Agriculture for several submachine guns to enforce the monitoring of crops as an indication that virtually every bureaucracy of the federal government is being weaponized to attack political, economic and cultural enemies of progressivism and big government. By circumventing the Congress and the voters, the effects of this movement is to steadily eat away at the cultural and political roots of the country. At this rate, with two and half years to the next presidential election, even a change of administration will likely hand the new president a country that was unrecognizable from a just a decade ago.” The Weaponization of the Federal Bureaucracy
Will anyone be held accountable for these despicable acts? “Federal employees and a contractor diverted more than $1 million of charitable contributions to spending on themselves for in-office massages, meals at every meeting and other luxuries and unnecessary expenses, a government audit found. They called themselves “volunteers” and said they needed “motivation” to help the less fortunate, even though some 41 federal workers were being paid full-time salaries to administer just one local chapter of the government’s annual workplace charity drive, the Combined Federal Campaign. They arrived a day early and stayed a day late for annual training conferences in New Orleans and Las Vegas, and paid for room service and pay-per-view movies with donated funds. Then, they adamantly defended their right to do so when questioned by auditors.” Feds used donations intended for poor for massages, luxuries for themselves
Somehow I am not surprised. “Gun retailers say the Obama administration is imposing regulations that will put them out of business, the Washington Times reports. The retailers say the administration is choking off their credit lines, freezing their assets, and prohibiting online sales.” Gun Retailers: Obama Admin Restricting Business
The state of California today. “A farmer 10 miles away, who was a father of four children, was shot and killed this week after investigating intruders on his farm. (The gang-banger suspects are now in custody.) He interrupted a stolen car being stripped, and “they” killed him for being so rude as to drive on his own land. I note that fact because a few weeks ago the dogs barked at 3 a.m. For once I decided to ignore them. And the next morning I found a stripped auto in my vineyard. I had gone back to sleep on the theory that in America today walking out to investigate would have been a politically incorrect sin. Here is what I mean. America does not like the enforcement of property rights unless one is rich, hip and cool, like those who assume the sanctity of their Google or Apple parking lots. I would de facto have no right to have ordered people off my property. And without arms, no means of enforcing any order I had issued. Instead, I assume California would argue that there must have been extenuating circumstances that forced the gang-bangers into a life of crime, from callous indifference about their impoverishment to illegal-alien bashing (to…, well, fill in the blanks).” The Unforgiving Moment
Missed opportunities. “Here Is What I Would Tell the Rutgers Graduating Class of 2014… I hear Condoleezza Rice stood you up. You may think it was because about 50 students—.09 percent of your student body—held a “sit-in” at the university president’s office to protest the selection of Secretary Rice as commencement speaker. You may think it was because a few of your faculty—stale flakes from the crust of the turkey pot pie that was the New Left—threatened a “teach-in” to protest the selection of Secretary Rice. “Sit-in”? “Teach-in”? What century is this? I think Secretary Rice forgot she had a yoga session scheduled for today. It’s shame she was busy. You might have heard something useful from a person who grew up poor in Jim Crow Alabama. Who lost a friend and playmate in 1963 when white supremacists bombed Birmingham’s Sixteenth Street Baptist Church. Who became an accomplished concert pianist before she tuned her ear to the more dissonant chords of international relations.” My Commencement Speech to Rutgers’ Geniuses: Go Forth and Fail
“I never took literally the famous quote attributed to Churchill: “A man who is not a liberal at 20 has no heart. A man who is not a conservative at 40 has no brain.” But it had a certain resonance in reference to basic maturity and common sense. That’s why we remember it. You don’t have to be an abject follower of Edmund Burke to realize that the role of a faculty member is to instruct and reveal received knowledge in as impartial manner as possible, not to fulminate on like an arrested adolescent as if he or she were still protesting the Vietnam War what feels like a hundred years later. What this does is give the younger generation nowhere to go. Some protest in youth is normal, but if the older generation is still taking up so much of the playing field, you leave the younger with no place of their own but the more bizarre and outré extremes. Therefore someone like Hirsi Ali, who should be an international hero of human rights, becomes a villain. And, as it did recently at Dartmouth, the word “fiesta” used by an Anglo for a heart disease benefit becomes an instrument of supposed racial oppression. We have to put an end to this ASAP. That starts with putting pressure on that arrested faculty and their administration enablers. And the ones to do it are the parents paying a fortune for this nonsense.” The Rise of the Campus Brown Shirts
We need a new Fourth Estate because the one we have is not doing what it is charged with doing. “College students who are insulated from all news that doesn’t spring from Democratic Party talking points uncoincidentally know every pop culture question imaginable. What they don’t know? Basic facts about a 9/11 terrorist attack that happened 2 years ago. Now, why would that be? Of course, trust in the media remains near an all-time low. Could that have anything to do with networks reporting on missing airplanes for weeks or refusing to report extensively on major scandals (that don’t affect bridges and New Jersey governors)?” University Students Ace Every Culture Question in the Book, Have No Idea What a ‘Benghazi’ Even Is
Long excerpt, but it needs to be known. “Nancy Pelosi famously declared of Obamacare: “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it.” The same could be said of the National Popular Vote (NPV), a piece of anti–Electoral College legislation that has been stealthily working its way through state legislatures. Just last month, New York became the latest state to join the effort. Most Americans are unaware that ten states, plus the District of Columbia, have approved this measure. Indeed, the proposal already has 61 percent of the support it needs to go into effect. The country’s presidential-election system is on track to be radically altered, yet most voters have no idea that change is afoot. National Popular Vote is a California-based group that has been working since 2006 to change the way Americans elect their presidents. NPV supporters are aware of the many failed past efforts to enact a constitutional amendment eliminating the Electoral College. Such an amendment would require the support of two-thirds of each house of Congress and three-quarters (38) of the states. Their objective — eliminating the Electoral College — simply does not have enough support to achieve this goal. But NPV supporters aren’t going to let a little thing like the Constitution get in the way of a good progressive idea. They have hatched a new scheme, which they say is merely making creative use of constitutional provisions. Creative, indeed! NPV’s idea is so creative that it claims the ability to implement the direct presidential election system that was specifically rejected by the delegates to the Constitutional Convention. NPV’s plan is simple: It asks each state to change its laws regarding allocation of presidential electors. Today, most states give their electors to the presidential candidate who won their own state’s election. For instance, Barack Obama obtained 55 electors from California in 2012 because he won the popular vote in California. NPV instead asks states to commit themselves, in advance and (supposedly) irrevocably, to award their electors to the winner of the national popular vote. Participating states sign an interstate compact committing them to this new system. It goes into effect when states totaling 270 electors — enough to win a presidential election — have signed on. In this way, participating states are guaranteed that the winner of the national popular vote will be chosen as president. The Electoral College would still technically exist, but it would merely ratify the national popular-vote winner. [Snip] Such a move could destroy the two-party system and encourage the rise of extremist third parties. It could turn American presidential elections into European-style multi-party affairs. It could also facilitate an increase in fraud. After all, without the Electoral College, any vote stolen in any precinct in the country could affect the national outcome — even if that vote was easily stolen in the bluest California precinct or the reddest Texas one. You have to pass it to find out what is in it? Many Americans are sorry that they didn’t take time to learn more about Obamacare before it was passed. Let’s not make the same mistake twice.” The NPV Plan: Pass It to Find Out What Is in It: The National Popular Vote would make a travesty of presidential elections.
It’s not working because we’’ know what they’re up to! “But perhaps the biggest problem for Democrats is that, at least in those areas of the country where the minority of Americans will decide the 2014 elections, the liberal campaign to demonize congressional Republicans appears to have failed.”Battleground Poll Points to GOP Victory
“India may be at a historic turning point, as voters delivered a sweeping victory to the BJP party led by Narendra Modi,as predicted on these pages more than 2 weeks ago. This represents a repudiation of the Congress Party, the heir to the Gandhi-Nehru semi-socialist political machine that has ruled India virtually since independence. While the American mainstream media has virtually ignored this embrace of free markets and anti-jihadism, the Obama administration will soon be forced to back-peddle and deal with a man it has barred from receiving a visa to visit the United States. Modi’s party has achieved an absolute majority in the Indian parliament, and will have the support of some other parties as well, and thus will be able to govern the world’s largest democracy and implement a reform agenda. As governor of the state of Gujarat, Modi compiled an excellent record of reform and economic growth, so his party’s taking control of the national government bodes well for India turning around its faltering economic growth.” Stunning Election in India
“It’s very important for Hillary that women are afraid and looking for a Big Government protector, while men are chastened and silenced. This narrative is part of that.” Emphasis mine. “If rape is a hideous, heinous crime — and it is — is it not similarly horrific to brand someone guilty of such without slow and somber consideration of circumstances and evidence? Is it not also horrible when we rush to believe an accuser, with no thought for the accused? Is it not also horrible when we brainwash women into believing they were raped? Is it not heinous to shift the pendulum from attacking the accuser to attacking the accused? Is it not counterproductive to lump victims of violent rape in with victims of ‘sexual assault’? Rape is a horror. It should be treated as seriously as its horror requires. Perhaps the Left should stop diminishing it by creating — and crying — rape.” Crying Rape: Is there really a rape epidemic? Probably not.
“Sarah Palin wants to know why everyone is so upset about Karl Rove suggesting there’s something wrong with Hillary Clinton’s brain. In a Facebook post Monday, Palin argued that no one went easy on her during the 2008 presidential election so Clinton should expect the same treatment. Linking to a Wall Street Journal article on the issue she evidently found on The Drudge Report, Palin mocked Rove’s critics. She wrote:
“Hey! Hillary’s brain is off-limits! Leave her health records alone! Democrats are right – scouring records of a female candidate is just politics of personal destruction, and for the media to engage in it would be unfair, unethical, and absolutely UNPRECEDENTED. You can’t probe a woman like that because, well, it’s a war on women!
Bunch of sexist, big meanies engaging in something heretofore unheard of, for shame.”
“Is it beyond the pale to question Clinton’s injury and long-term effects? Well, countless media outlets had no problem questioning John McCain’s health and age when he was running for president. Or Bob Dole’s when he was running. Clinton didn’t just bump her head. Her husband said last week that her injury was “a terrible concussion that required six months of very serious work to get over.” That is indeed a long recovery — much longer than the State Department suggested at the time. [Snip] President Obama is sufficiently concerned about youth sports concussions that he is hosting a summit to address the issue. Last year he told The New Republic, “‘I’m a big football fan, but I have to tell you if I had a son, I’d have to think long and hard before I let him play football.” How does he feel about a hypothetical sister named Hillary, who already suffered “a terrible concussion,” succeeding him in the Oval Office? Rove raises legitimate concerns. Will the media, in the interests of disclosure and transparency, make sure Clinton’s injury and potential long-term consequences are disclosed and analyzed? Or will they ignore the story, blame the messenger and adopt Clinton’s response, “What difference does it make?” The legitimate concerns about Hillary’s concussion
Transparency! “The IRS scandal has become a bipartisan concern, as evidenced by a number of Democrats voting to hold Lerner in contempt of Congress and voting to appoint a special counsel to investigate the scandal. But the administration’s effort to rewrite the rules for political activity is an even more serious threat that must be stopped.” New IRS Revelations – and What the Obama Administration Is Doing Behind the Scenes
Trends: A judge overturned the will of the people in Pennsylvania today as well. “In this case, the issue was settled by the voters. Oregon voters still had the opportunity to change their definition of government-recognized marriage through the same mechanism of a referendum or legislative action to amend the state constitution themselves, if they changed their mind on the issue. And again in this case, the Attorney General is the people’s lawyer, their legal representative as well as their top law-enforcement officer. If the state’s elected lawyer doesn’t want to represent the people in court, then he or she should resign and let someone else take the job. The people deserved to be represented in court by their paid attorney, whether the AG liked the law or not. If attorneys argue — correctly — that rapists and murderers deserve a defense, then why should that be denied to the people of Oregon and California?” Federal judge overturns marriage definition in Oregon constitution
Dream on. “The United States now has a government, which has been transformed from one based on traditional values, articles of faith and the support of individual liberty into one in which moral relativism, political expediency and crony capitalism take precedence. The resignation of Barack Obama would be a victory for the American people, create an opportunity for the restoration of the Constitution and the rule of law and allow citizens to regain control of the government. At the same time, the departure of Obama will elicit a torrent of revelations that will likely taint the highest officials in government, the leadership of both political parties and the upper echelons of the media. Like Obama, the establishment considers itself too big to fail, but no government can survive if the interests of its officials conflict with those of the people. It is time for Obama to resign and let a hopelessly corrupt government fail.” When Obama Resigns
“There are no magic solutions, at least none that I know of. Common sense, common decency, work, and honesty are about all I can come up with. These things are not fancy or new or politically correct. But they have a better track record than much that we are doing today.” Poverty and Snowstorms: Sometimes, people wander in all the wrong directions, with disastrous results.
We must come together as a party, or our country will be no more. “This is a battle that, as a self-described Fiscal and Social Conservative, I am wholly prepared to fight. Again, I’ve arrived at, and maintain my worldview through reason and analysis. While I can be flexible on “some issues”, I cannot, and will not bend on my values. For, what is a man who gains the world, but loses his soul. (Mark 8:36) The far left is dug in, and seemingly prepared to fight this battle as well. Which brings us back to the Fiscal Conservative – Social Liberal Moderate. Seeing the Left prepared to destroy anyone who doesn’t comport to their cultural worldview (Chick-Fil-A, Phil Robertson, Brendan Eich, the Benham brothers, etc.), you must understand that they (the Left) are prepared to go nuclear. You may not believe in, nor should you be required to, believe in the social/cultural worldview of your Social Conservative brethren, but you cannot stand by and watch the battle from the sidelines. You may think that you’re taking an “enlightened” attitude towards these social/cultural issues by straddling the middle, but understand this: as the Left goes nuclear to defeat the Social Conservative, they will have no compunction against attacking you, when the winds of change blow in a wholly different direction. You will be asked to evolve again. To paraphrase Niemöller — First they came for the Social Conservatives.” Destroying the Canard
War on Terror
We were winning, now we’re losing, thanks to President Obama. “Terrorism is a tactic, but means are often indicative of ends. The alternative to defining the war in terms of means would have been to define it in terms of ends. Al Qaeda’s goal, like those of the political Islamic parties that Obama was empowering, was Islamic rule. And a war on Islam was off limits. In its obsession with root causes, the left refused to deal with either means or ends. It bypassed what Al Qaeda was or wanted and instead focused on a root cause explaining how it was our fault.
