Let’s do what needs to be done to win in November. No regrets!

Stories of the Day

Some background on the guy who’s in charge of the VA. “We’ve got veterans dying because they’re not getting adequate medical care.  Do you remember this name Shinseki, this guy that’s running the VA.  Eric Shinseki, do you remember why he’s famous?  Do you remember why he’s even at the VA?  Shinseki was one of the first uniformed military people to trash Bush and the Iraq war for the Democrats back in the second term of George W. Bush.  And I’ll never forget, John Kerry, who, you may not know, served in Vietnam, was running around quoting Eric Shinseki day in and day out.”  General Shinseki: Democrat Hack

Covert rationing. “The obvious question to ask about the VA scandal is: Why? Why would a VA hospital administrator direct doctors not to perform colonoscopies until patients had three positive tests for bloody stools? Or why were VA employees ordered to “cook the books” and hide long wait times that veterans faced when seeking care from heart, cancer, or other specialists? Why did some VA administrators go so far as to create a secret waiting list to hide year-plus wait times? There’s only one plausible answer to these questions: rationing. The VA is but a smaller version of the sort of government-run, single-payer health care with which the political left is so enamored. [Snip] Rationing care can take many forms. It can be overt, like the Canadian or British health care systems, which have unambiguous, publicly-announced waiting times and coverage denials for certain procedures. Or rationing can be more subtle, with little or no public participation. This latter, covert form of rationing is what the VA has adopted.” ELIZABETH PRICE FOLEY: V.A. Scandals Raise The Specter Of Healthcare Rationing.

In Obama’s world, it’s not his job. “As with everything else that is bad that goes on in Washington in the age of Obama, the VA scandal appears to be something that the president just reads about in the newspapers. Like the illegal discrimination against conservative groups at the IRS and the Justice Department’s spying practices and, most memorably, the mismanagement and incompetence at the Department of Health and Human Services during the ObamaCare rollout, the president’s management style is absentee and often downright uninterested in performance. Rather than react to criticism of his administration by cleaning house when necessary, his instinct—even on issues like the VA where partisanship is not a factor—is to hunker down and stonewall. While the focus on Obama’s efforts to expand the reach of government power and to downgrade our alliances with friends rightly gets most of the attention from critics, the VA scandal and the slow and incoherent response from the White House demonstrates that the president’s inability to govern effectively is potentially as dangerous as his misconceptions about the purpose of government or American power.” Absentee President Is Bad for Veterans’ Health … And the Country’s

“Oh. Snap. CNN’s Jake Tapper took White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough to task this afternoon for the Obama administration’s costly lack of hustle when it comes to dealing with the instances of waste/fraud/abuse in their midst, rather pointedly asking, “How many stories like this, how many letters like this, how many dead veterans do you need before somebody asks the question within the White House, ‘Maybe this guy isn’t the best steward of these veterans’?” …All he got back was obfuscation and excuses, of course, but it was a good try.” Tapper: “How many dead veterans does” the White House need before heads start to roll?

“The difference between the DMV and the VA is that people don’t die waiting for their drivers’ license while veterans died waiting for treatment from the VA. Mr. Kinzinger should realize by now that there is no accountability in this adminstration – even when incompetent management leads to lives being lost. Benghazi, the VA, Obamacare implementation – no one gets fired. They have a lifetime contract in the Obama administration – as long as they toe the party line.” Rep. Kinzinger on the VA: ‘This is like the medical version of the DMV’

Amnesty

Good. “Conservatives have found a new weapon in their fight against the Obama administration over immigration: thousands of immigrants convicted of crimes.” GOP’s new immigration weapon

Our country is in very good hands. “Exit question: How good do you feel knowing that Valerie Jarrett, indisputably the most powerful advisor to the most powerful man in the world, is stupid enough to reveal something like this publicly given how fragile immigration negotiations are? The more conservatives doubt Boehner, the harder it is to pass anything in the House — and here she is, babbling about secret commitments he’s made to Democrats. We’re in good hands, America.” Valerie Jarrett: We have a commitment from Boehner on immigration reform

Emphasis mine. “In sum, the lawless behavior of the State Department, beginning under Hillary Clinton, has created a threat to public safety in America. That will be worth remembering when criminal aliens released because of the State Department’s unwillingness to follow the law commit grisly crimes in the future.” “In effect, the administration has, as Bill Otis puts it, “unleashed its own crime wave.” But who within the administration was responsible for this for wanton indifference to public safety? One responsible party is Hillary Clinton. Mark Krikorian of the Center for Immigration Studies explains why:

The Supreme Court [has] held that the federal government can detain aliens for deportation up to six months but generally must release the alien into the United States after that point if there is “no significant likelihood of removal in the reasonably foreseeable future.” One of the main reasons such a situation arises is that a criminal alien’s home country will refuse to take its nationals back.

Why would a criminal alien’s home country take the criminal back? Because federal law requires the secretary of state to stop issuing visas to the citizens of any country that refuses to take back its nationals. Refusing to issue visas to citizens of a foreign country would provide a powerful incentive for that country to take back its nationals and thus create a significant likelihood of removal in the foreseeable future. This, in turn, would enable the U.S. to avoid releasing criminal aliens onto our streets. But according to Krikorian, Hillary Clinton and John Kerry have ignored the law and continued issuing visas to citizens of countries that refuse to take back their citizens. Apparently, they don’t wish to risk alienating these countries. They would rather see dangerous criminals on the loose in the United States.HILLARY CLINTON AND THE RELEASE OF THOUSANDS OF CRIMINAL ALIENS

“Bowing to pressure from amnesty advocate groups, President Obama and his administration continue to waver on enforcing the law when it comes to immigration policies. The president has been decried as the “deporter-in-chief” by those who usually support him,  like Janet Murguía, president of the National Council of La Raza. And this pressure has led to some terrible policy decisions.” The Big Immigration Problem No One’s Talking About

“In their statement, ICE attempted to claim otherwise. “The releases required by court decisions account for a disproportionate number of the serious crimes listed in the report. For example, mandatory releases account for over 75% of the homicides listed,” it stated. “Others, typically those with less serious offenses, were released as a discretionary matter after career law enforcement officers made a judgment regarding the priority of holding the individual, given ICE’s resources, and prioritizing the detention and removal of individuals who pose a risk to public safety or national security.” Such weasel words don’t cut it. If 75 percent of the convicted murderers had to be released, that still leaves 48 convicted murderers who didn’t. Furthermore, the notion that “less serious offenses” allowing for “discretionary release” by “career law enforcement officers” can still amount to releasing individuals convicted of sexual assault, kidnapping, aggravated assault, dangerous drug possession, drunken or drugged driving, stealing vehicles and flight escape, is nothing short of chilling.” A New Level of Illegal Immigration Chaos

Amnesty will mean the end of America as we  know it. Just look to  California as an example of how immigrants vote. “Phyllis Schlafly’s Eagle Forum has published a landmark report on how the immigrants of today and their children overwhelmingly support expansion of big government, and thus vote overwhelmingly Democratic. Even without reform, present levels of legal immigration “will add nearly 15 million new potential voters by 2036, a large share of whom will favor the Left,” it points out. Unless legal immigration is reduced — something that can only happen with Republicans in power in both Congress and the White House — “it will force Republicans to either permanently become a minority party or move to the left politically,” the report warned. But immigration isn’t just a long-term threat to the GOP. Amnesty for illegals will this year “alienate the Republican base, working class whites, at least 4 million of whom stayed home in 2012,” the Eagle Forum analysis pointed out. Yet the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, thinking only of quick, cheap labor, continues to divide Republicans, nonsensically warning the party this week not to bother fielding a presidential candidate for 2016 without an amnesty this year. Now that even Obama has stressed to supporters what a priority it is for him, will Republicans — as ever, the Stupid Party — catch on that amnesty is their electoral death warrant? You’re better off betting on a criminal alien being deported.” Obama Makes It Clear That Amnesty Will Help Democrats

Benghazi

Eventually, your lies catch up with you. “Leading Republican senators charged Thursday that National Security Adviser Susan Rice’s public account of the Benghazi terror attack has now “absolutely collapsed,” citing inaccuracies in her statements not only on the origin of the attack but the level of security at the U.S. compound. The lawmakers said she is clearly “frustrated” that her story is falling apart, a day after Rice appeared to scoff at a question on whether a congressional select committee probe would reveal new evidence. “Danged if I know,” Rice said in response to the question Wednesday. “She’s frustrated this won’t go away,’Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., told reporters at a Capitol Hill news conference along with Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H. “She’s frustrated that she appeared on national television and told a story about Benghazi that has absolutely collapsed.’” Lawmakers say Rice’s story has ‘absolutely collapsed’ amid more questions on Benghazi account

Obama’s foreign policy not working. “As Libya continues to crumble in the wake of the NATO-led regime change that deposed dictator Moammar Gadhafi, the U.S. this month has felt compelled to mobilize in anticipation of another intervention — two and a half years later. President Obama has sent our Marines nearly to the shores of Tripoli. Reuters reports that the Pentagon “has temporarily moved nearly 200 Marines to Sicily from their base in Spain as a precaution due to concerns about unrest in North Africa, bolstering the U.S. ability to respond to any crisis. “The Pentagon declined to single out any countries but two U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said American concerns were centered squarely on Libya ….” This highlights the real Benghazi scandal that I wrote about in my latest column. Obama attempted a drive-by war — a quick in-and-out regime change, letting other people pick up the pieces after us. This works if your only goal is deposing a dictator. It doesn’t work if your hope is promoting stability and peace. Libya is in bad shape, and is a breeding ground for terrorists. “So Many Jihadists Are Flocking to Libya, It’s Becoming ‘Scumbag Woodstock’,” read the headline on Eli Lake’s well-reported account ten days ago.” As Libya crumbles, Marines ready boots on the ground in Sicily — The real Benghazi scandal

Hillary operative getting ready to save Hillary’s rear end. “For weeks, partisan Democrats have claimed that Republicans pushed for the formation of this committee solely in order to discredit former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton ahead of a likely 2016 presidential bid. Well, now they are treating the committee like a political operation, going so far as to tap former special counsel to President Bill Clinton, Lanny Davis, to head a counter-spin taskforce. They’re calling it “The Truth Squad.” Davis claims that no Democratic campaign or candidate is backing him, and he is going out on his own in establishing this counter-committee. He plans on setting up camp outside the Benghazi hearing room and, in conjunction with a group called Correct The Record 2016, will merely attempt to counter what he perceives to be misinformation disseminated by the committee.” So Much for GOP Overreach: Dems Benghazi ‘Truth Squad’ Politicizes Investigation

The mainstream media and the Left desperately trying to circle the wagons. “The only thing that scares Hillary and the Obama administration is the truth. Their partisan defenders are doing everything possible to keep the American people from knowing the truth about what really happened before, during and after the tragic attack on September 11, 2012 that murdered four brave Americans who were serving their country. [Snip] The Democrats and their media acolytes who are pushing back against a full investigation of the Benghazi scandal are in full circle the wagons mode.  They are trying to make investigating this scandal into some sort of late night joke against Republicans, but instead are looking more desperate by the day. Many Americans do not believe the Obama administration’s account of what happened leading up to and during the September 11, 2012 attack. They smell a cover up.  According to a Rasmussen poll earlier this month, 59 percent feel it is unlikely the administration has revealed all of the details surrounding the tragic attack. “Seventy-two percent continue to believe that it is important to find out exactly what happened in the Benghazi matter, with 46 percent who say it is ‘Very Important.’” Desperate Antics to Obstruct the Truth About Benghazi

Big Government

Article a short one, so I excerpted it in full. “Those federal bureaucrats who can’t be fired want to be able to defend themselves from angry taxpayers.  Or something.  AWR Hawkins reports forBreitbart:

A May 7th solicitation by the U.S. Department of Agriculture seeks “the commercial acquisition of submachine guns[in] .40 Cal. S&W.”

According to the solicitation, the Dept. of Agriculture wants the guns to have an “ambidextrous safety, semiautomatic or 2 round [bursts] trigger group, Tritium night sights front and rear, rails for attachment of flashlight (front under fore group) and scope (top rear), stock collapsible or folding,” and a “30 rd. capacity” magazine.

They also want the submachine guns to have a “sling,” be “lightweight,” and have an “oversized trigger guard for gloved operation.”

But of course those feds have our best interests at heart, so there’s nothing to worry about. And those efforts to disarm us are for our own benefit.” Why does the Department of Agriculture need submachine guns?

Big government never leads to anything beneficial for the people. “The Democratic group Third Way is releasing the results of a survey on political “moderates,” which deviates from, and is more informative than, surveys on supposed “independents.” The Atlantic’s Molly Ball has piecediscussing the survey as well as a memo Third Way officials gave Ball ahead of time to frame the results. It’s an interesting survey, especially with the parties gearing up for midterm elections. But the survey is undermined by a flaw that pervades such polls with regard to voters’ attitudes toward the size and scope of government. That particular recurring survey question is rarely if ever challenged, but those who want an honest rendering of Americans’ political and policy preferences shouldn’t let it slide. Or, rather, conservatives shouldn’t let it slide, because the question is dishonestly designed to elicit a more favorable answer for supporters of expanding government. Here’s Ball:

Moderates’ perspective on the role of government has elements in common with both liberals and conservatives. Only 23 percent of moderates favor a larger government that provides more services (compared to 54 percent of liberals and 13 percent of conservatives); 37 percent favor a smaller government with fewer services (compared to 12 percent of liberals and 62 percent of conservatives).

As anyone who knows anything about the government can tell you, this is what our president might call a false choice. The simple fact is that the growth of the modern bureaucratic state is such that the larger government/more services vs. leaner government/fewer services framing is outdated and irrelevant. This type of poll question is trumpeted often by liberals who either don’t fully understand how the government works or who do understand but prefer not to clue their readers in on the con. [Snip] Larger government doesn’t just erode freedom. At a certain point, it begins providing fewer services than it did before it ballooned beyond manageability. Howard shows that often the only way around the most absurd bureaucratic extremism is public shaming. That should be applied to the survey questions designed to enable such bad governance as well.” Why Bigger Government Does Not Equal More Services

Get a federal job, keep a federal job, FOR LIFE, no matter how incompetent or dishonest you may be. “Federal employees get enviable pay and perks, especially retirement benefits that are unthinkable these days for most private sector workers. But perhaps the biggest perk of all is job security, near-immunity from getting fired no matter how serious the misconduct. There is a convincing pattern of tolerance of misconduct that is bound to produce more misbehavior in the absence of fear of losing one’s job. [Snip] Why should they be allowed to steal from taxpayers and keep their jobs? They have been paid for the time they were using for their own private benefit. They stole that pay. Case closed. Yet out of millions of federal bureaucrats:

“I can probably count all the people on two hands I’ve seen fired,” Rep. John L. Mica, Florida Republican, said at a hearing last week into the EPA misconduct. “But something needs to be changed when people are breaking the law, when you have this GS-14 sitting there abusing his position, his salary, ripping off the taxpayers.”

It is time for Republicans to run on a platform of holding federal employees accountable for their behavior.” Federal bureaucrats don’t get fired for serious misbehavior

Big Labor

If protesters get their way, once again “unintended consequences” will ensue. “A resident of the nearby Herald Towers apartments heard the cacaphony and was curious about the crowd across the street. He asked your reporter what was going on, and I explained it was about raising the city’s minimum wage. With a smirk on his face, he explained he sells automated-cash-register systems and that he’s ‘all for the minimum-wage increase.’” Young Socialists and SEIU Lead NYC’s Growing Fast-Food Protests: Alternative-labor leaders are using fast-food workers to “revitalize the Left in the U.S.”

Common Core

Why do our politicians hate our kids? “A headline at the Daily Caller complains: “Principals say Common Core tests make little kids vomit, pee their pants.” Top comedian Louis C.K. shook the educational world with this tweet: “My kids used to love math.  Now it makes them cry.”  Louis C.K. blamed Common Core.” Education That You Know Is Sick

The Economy

“One of the distinguishing features of the new Marxists is this kind of support for the same forces they claim to oppose. The Occupy movement came and went without mounting any tea-party-style primary challenges against incumbent Democrats, who receive more Wall Street campaign contributions than Republicans do. The government’s use of force always enforces class inequality rather than alleviating it, a point recognized way back in the 1950s by the Yugoslav dissident Milovan Đilas in his great work The New Class: An Analysis of the Communist System (which the new Marxists have mysteriously declined to rediscover). Marx’s present-day acolytes are on track to make their perceived problems of capitalism worse.” On Top of Piketty: The new Marxism has nothing to offer us but chains.

Elections

Read the whole thing. “If the left confines its outreach to hardcore supporters — progressives, Occupiers, radicals, true believers in the press, intelligentsia and pop culture, and devout interest groups focused on illegal immigrant rights, so-called women’s issues, income inequality and social justice — then I believe the 2014 and 2016 elections will be a bloodbath for the left and significantly favor Republicans. For the most part, these rants against the Koch brothers fall on deaf ears in the public at large, but do serve as a “dog whistle” to raise money from the 1% crowd and their big donors. But we shouldn’t get too cocky or underestimate the ability of the left to cast their extreme progressive positions as kitchen table issues. They are expert at taking talking points on income inequality, racism, women’s issues, global warming, and the minimum wage, and parlaying them into appeals that reel in gullible voters — the way they did in 2012. [Snip] Still, with the power base available to the left, the monies they raise, their cutting-edge technology, the web of organizations they have woven between education, pop culture, academia, religious organizations, and activist groups, American voters could easily buy into the narrative that Citizens United unfairly shifts the balance of power in elections towards Republican donors like the Koch Brothers, who not only control our thought processes and how we vote, but dictate all aspects of our lives with a flick of their checkbook. If the left is cocky and sticks to this narrative — appealing only to progressives and 1% types — they will lose hands down. But if they take these issues to the broader public and repackage them as kitchen table issues with the big, bad, Republican wolf huffing and puffing to knock down their houses, well, then we better have a battle plan and be prepared to strike preemptively.  To win, Republicans must go on offense and focus on kitchen table issues and conservative solutions — and do so in a language that resonates with voters — bolstered by a proven track record of success in states with Republican governors.” MoveOn and 2014

I pray that the writer is correct. “So that’s where Obama and the whole country find themselves. It has now become obvious that the economy is never going to improve under Obama because he and his supporters don’t want it to. It might hurt the planet. So it’s procrastinate and procrastinate and procrastinate until the next election and maybe even the one after that. This is the kind of stagnation Thorstein Veblen warned against in The Theory of the Leisure Class. When you couple an aristocratic upper crust that has lost interest in economic progress with a lumpenproletariat that doesn’t understand growth and only wants handouts from the government, you have a prescription for long economic decline. But all this is going to end in November. Then the Great American Middle is going to have its say. All those 9-to-5 people who work in manufacturing plants or real estate offices or the corner 7-Eleven, who don’t want handouts from the government but only the opportunity to make a living and keep the fattest part of their paychecks — they are stand up and be counted. And then the President is going to discover that those same people whom his fellow professors told him are racist, homophobic, gun-toting troglodytes are actually the ordinary Americans who made this country great and want to see it made great again.” THE OBAMA COALITION IS ABOUT TO COME APART: He Owes It All to the Keystone Kops of the Leisure Class

Will the IRS come down as hard on Eva Longoria’s group as they did the Tea Party groups? Emphasis mine. And within 48 hours of the organization’s launch, both Longoria and Muñoz seemed to forget they had to appear non-partisan. First, when Muñoz went on MSNBC to discuss their efforts, he appeared with the DNC logo behind him. Then, in an interview on Fusion’s This Is America with Jorge Ramos, Longoria quickly dismissed Republican policies and touted Democratic efforts. She named several Democratic leaders and completely failed to acknowledge the existence of U.S. senators Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio and other Hispanic Republicans. She further failed to acknowledge that in the last midterm elections Republican Hispanics made historic gains. New Mexicans elected their first Latina governor, Susana Martínez. In Nevada, Brian Sandoval became the state’s first Hispanic governor. Martínez and Sandoval are the only sitting Hispanic governors in America. Jaime Herrera Beutler became the first Latina ever elected to Congress from Washington State, and in Texas, Bill Flores defeated a 20-year Democratic House incumbent. Republicans are making strides in electing not only Hispanics but people from all communities. South Carolinians elected Nikki Haley, the first female and the first Indian American to become governor, and Tim Scott of South Carolina is the first African American to represent a southern state in the U.S. Senate since Reconstruction. The nation’s other Indian American governor, Bobby Jindal, is also Republican. [Snip] So here’s my challenge to the Latino Victory Project: If you are serious about a non-partisan effort to elevate and advance Latinos in politics, give Republicans a call. We have a lot to talk about, starting with the long list of strong Hispanic Republican candidates whom the Latino Victory Project could support.” Eva Longoria’s Democratic Front Group: If the Latino Victory Project wants to advance Latinos in politics, it should include Republicans.

Victories. “The main takeaway from recent GOP primaries, which saw the victories of Nebraska’s Ben Sasse and North Carolina’s Thom Tillis, was a continuation of a lesson conservatives have been learning the past few election cycles: the candidate matters. In the past, conservatives have often learned this by losing–see Todd Akin, Sharron Angle, Christine O’Donnell, etc. Now they seem to be proving it by winning.” The Tea Party Comes Into Its Own

Foreign Policy

Failure. “Human rights organization Open Doors published its 2014 World Watch List in January, highlighting and ranking the top 50 nations that persecute Christians.  The overwhelming majority of countries making the list—and nine of the top ten worst offenders—are Muslim, and include nations from among America’s allies (Saudi Arabia, Kuwait) and its contenders (Iran); from among economically rich nations (Qatar) and poor nations (Somalia and Yemen); from among “Islamic republic” nations (Afghanistan), “democracies” (Iraq), and “moderate” nations (Malaysia and Indonesia). The report also indicates that every Muslim nation that the U.S. has helped “liberate,” including in the context of the “Arab Spring,” has become significantly worse for Christians and other minorities. Previously moderate Syria is now ranked the third worst nation in the world to be Christian, Iraq fourth, Afghanistan fifth, and Libya 13th. All four receive the worst designation in the ranking process: “extreme persecution.” Three of these countries—Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya—were “liberated” in part thanks to U.S. forces, while in the fourth, Syria, the U.S. is actively sponsoring “freedom fighters” against the regime, many of whom have been responsible for any number of atrocities—including massacres, beheadings, and the crucifixion of Christians and others.” U.S. Becomes Chief Enabler of Christian Persecution

Global Warming

I am ‘SHOCKED!’ “Climategate Redux? The Times of London follows up on its story from yesterday about climate scientist Lennart Bengtsson, who was hounded into resigning from a climate skeptic think tank. Now it appears that a paper auithored by Bengtsson was rejected by a prestigious journal because it may have aided the skeptic’s cause.” Damning email shows how climate advocates suppress skeptics

“Professor Lennart Bengtsson – the scientist at the heart of the “Climate McCarthyism” row – has hit back at his critics by accusing them of suppressing one of his studies for political reasons. The paper, which Prof Bengtsson wrote with four co-authors, suggested that climate is probably less sensitive to greenhouse gases than is admitted by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and that more research needs to be done to “reduce the underlying uncertainty”. However, when submitted for publication in the leading journal Environmental Research Letters, the paper failed the peer-review process and was rejected.” CLIMATE MCCARTHYISM: THE SCANDAL GROWS

He’s going to control us one way or another. You can bet on it. “U.S. President Barack Obama plans to personally unveil proposed carbon-emissions rules for power plants, elevating climate change policy as a top tier issue for his final two years in office, according to two people familiar with White House strategy. Obama is preparing to make the announcement with Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy, who said this week the rules are on track to be proposed by June 2, according to the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the schedule is still being planned.” Obama Said to Put Personal Push Behind EPA Emission Rules

Hillary Clinton

The party of old and failed ideas. “The Democrats keep insisting that they’re moving forward, when they’re actually wandering off to the left. They insist that they’re centrist when they’ve completely drifted off the road. It doesn’t matter how young or old its candidates are as long as they base their worldview around discredited 19th century ideas about economics and equally discredited 20th century ideas about the virtues of central planning. A youthful body with a decayed brain rotting with ideas that were old when Nixon and LBJ were toddlers isn’t progressive. It’s hopelessly reactionary. Obama may have been in his late forties when elected, but his ideas were around one hundred and forty years old. No matter what age Hillary is, her ideas are equally old. It’s not the state of her brain that’s the problem; it’s the things that she’s been putting in there since a young age. If Hillary and her Democratic Party really want to demonstrate their mental fitness, they can start by naming one single new economic idea that they’ve brought to the table in the last seventy years. And if they can’t, Americans will ask themselves whether they can afford another eight years of 19th century economics from a party whose last new idea is even older than Hillary.” The Democratic Party’s Brain Damage

It won’t matter, because most of the low-info voters want to be responsible for electing the first women president! “Hillary Clinton’s political career is filled with major, damaging mistakes.” Is Hillary Clinton the World’s Biggest Blunderer?

IRS

I think I have the answer: “It’s no.” “Throughout, the mainstream press showed a studied indifference to the whole affair, even though the application delays kept dozens of Tea Party groups on ice when their mobilizing efforts might have made a difference in the election outcome. Now, with so many lies exposed and with no more excuses left, will reporters at the New York Times, the Washington Post and the major TV networks finally start giving the IRS scandal the Watergate-level of attention it deserves? Or will they continue to help the administration cover it all up?” Can You See the IRS Scandal Now?

Frustrating. “I will confess to a little despair over the relatively mild reception that has greeted the evidence, now conclusive and irrefutable, that the Internal Revenue Service, under the direction of senior leaders affiliated with the Democratic party, was used as a political weapon from at least 2010 through the 2012 election. It may be that the American public simply does not care about the issue; it is always difficult, if not impossible, to predict what issues will seize the electorate’s attention, or to understand why after the fact. It may be that the public does not understand the issue, in which case a brief explanation of the known facts may be of some use. [Snip] The most important question that must be answered in this matter does not involve the misbehavior of IRS officials and Democratic officeholders, though those are important. Nor is it the question of free speech, vital and fundamental as that is. The question here is nothing less than the legitimacy of the United States government. When law-enforcement agencies and federal regulators with extraordinary coercive powers are subordinated to political interests rather than their official obligations — to the Party rather than to the law — then the law itself becomes meaningless, and the delicate constitutional order we have enjoyed for more than two centuries is reduced to a brutal might-makes-right proposition. Elected officials and public servants of both parties take an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States and to faithfully discharge the duties of their office. That oath is now being tested. The IRS investigation is no mere partisan scandal, but a moral challenge for the men and women who compose the government of this country. Whether they are sufficient to meet that challenge is far from obvious, but the evidence so far is not encouraging.”  The Emerging Junta: The IRS’s illegal actions — and its efforts at cover-up — undermine the foundations of our government.

The Left

Better late than never I suppose. “It is great to see all these Hollywood celebrities coming out against Sharia, but the focus of their outrage is odd. The Sultan of Brunei didn’t invent stonings and amputations and systematic oppression of women, gays and non-Muslims. He is not implementing some eccentric form of Sharia that has never before been seen in the world. The form of Sharia he is implementing is essentially the same as that which has been in place for years in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Sudan, Pakistan (mostly), and other areas of the Islamic world. So why all the outrage now? Have none of these stars ever stayed in a hotel owned by a Saudi prince or some other believer in Sharia? Are they unaware that Sharia is at the core of Islam and that it has been implemented for considerable periods in places other than Brunei? Jay Leno’s wife Mavis said in 2011 that “the Qur’an is more liberal with women than the Bible.” How times have changed: now, just three years later, she is protesting against a ruler who is implementing its “liberal” provisions. This is just one symptom of the cognitive dissonance involved as these stars, who have never said a word about Sharia oppression of human rights, who wouldn’t dare make a movie dramatizing the oppression of women and gays under Sharia, and who aided and abetted the stigmatization of opposition to Sharia as “hatred” and “bigotry,” have now all come down with a case of ‘Islamophobia.’” Vindicated

This is what real evil looks like. And those on the Left continue to look away. “While Ibrahim was waiting for the U.S. government to grant her a spousal visa, Amnesty International, which is highlighting Ibrahim’s case, says that a distant relative accused her of adultery and reported her to the authorities in August 2013. Ibrahim’s marriage to Wani, a South Sudanese Christian, is not recognized under Shariah. Ibrahim then attempted to defend herself by explaining that she was not a Muslim. This past February she provided to the court her marriage certificate that listed her as a Christian, and the location of the wedding as a church in Khartoum. But this resulted in the young wife and mother being charged with apostasy. The charges fall under Sudan’s Shariah-based Criminal Code, Articles 126 (apostasy) and 146 (adultery). The apostasy sentence carries a punishment of flogging – 100 lashes. Because of his infidel status, Wani is not recognized as the father of his own children. It’s bad enough that Wani’s parental rights have been violated by the Islamist regime in Khartoum, but less expected has been the lack of support that he has received from the U.S. Embassy in Khartoum. He revealed toMorning Star News that the U.S. Embassy in Khartoum expressed “no interest” in helping the family when his wife was arrested and that they have demanded a DNA test from Wani to prove he is the father of Martin before they will attempt to help the toddler.” Pregnant Christian Woman Married to U.S. Citizen Sentenced to Death in Sudan

We had better start paying attention America. “This is the state of academia today – not just at UCLA but all across the country, as BDS initiatives grow in popularity. Supporters of Israel are increasingly shut down, shouted down, and physically menaced by assertive, aggressive leftists and Muslims who know that administrations will do nothing to rein in their thuggery. Universities are supposed to be centers of learning. For Jews they’re instead increasingly precarious, dangerous places.” Walls Closing In for Jews at UCLA — and in America

“It’s official: the feminist movement and their willing servants in the California Democratic Party are willing to see in utero females killed because they are female in order to protect their existing legal right to abortion. You can’t make an abortion omelet without breaking a few zygotes. Daniel Nussbaum ofBreitbart reports:

On Tuesday, thirteen Democratson the California State Assembly Health Committee voted down a bill that would have outlawed the practice of sex selection through abortion. [Snip]

The bill was defeated 13-6 on a straight party line vote. So which party is it that has a war on women?” Calif. Dems vote down bill outlawing sex-selection abortion

The question that keeps me up at night: How do we wake up the “low information voters” to what is happening in our country? At parties, I’ve made the comment that our schools are teaching anti-capitalism now, and I get laughed at… “The idea that tens of millions of Americans could be, in effect, turned into anti-Americans seemed insane. But it happened, didn’t it?” In Silent Revolution: How the Left Rose to Political Power and Cultural Dominance, historian and political scientist Barry Rubin answers that question in convincing style and considerable detail. What happen was a “break from all American history” and “an ideological defacing of liberalism” on the part of the “Third Left,” the heir to both the Old Left of the 1920s-1950s and the New Left of the 1960s and 1970s. As Rubin sees it, the Third Left took over liberalism, portrayed its only opponent as reactionary right-wing conservatism and claimed that their radicalism represents all that is good in America and a correction to all that is evil. The new radicalism also claims a monopoly on truth and a right to fundamentally transform America. This altered approach, Rubin explains, “was one of an unprecedented degree of statism, an imperial presidency that went far beyond Richard Nixon’s dreams: record high levels of government regulation, taxation and debt.” It was “a different system from the one through which America achieved success and prosperity. Yet the fact that such changes were occurring was everywhere denied even as it was happening.” [Snip] Rubin believes that the radical forces and ideas of the Third Left will “continue to hold the commanding heights” even after Obama leaves office. The result “may be a very long term and even permanent change of the United States into something else, a nation far less affluent and far less free.” That is the fundamental transformation the president and the Third Left want. It does seem insane and the author wonders, “Will there be a U turn?” That is, can tens of millions of people be turned back into pro-Americans? Barry Rubin passed away in February and does not chart the prospects for such a turnaround. A good place to start would be for Americans to read Silent Revolution and acquaint themselves with the true nature of those who call themselves “liberals” — and start pushing back.” Silent Revolution

I excerpted a lot of the article, but it is an important read! “Equally crucial is his tracing of the continuities between the Old Left and the New Left. What has changed about the progressive faith since the collapse of the Soviet Union is not any diminishment of revolutionary commitment, but instead an increase of utopian fervor in proportion to the abandonment of specific social and economic blueprints for change. The ragtag collection of eco-radicals, queer and feminist militants, class warriors, anarchists, Maoists and the like who make up the anti-war and Occupy movements has become a purely nihilistic phenomenon dedicated to destroying capitalism, with no clear idea of the preferred system that would replace it. As an example, Horowitz profiles acclaimed Communist historian Eric Hobsbawm, whose last book, Age of Extremes, provides a detailed defense of Communist ideals yet who has openly stated his continuing commitment to a project that, in his own words, “has demonstrably failed, and as I know now, was bound to fail.” What does it mean to remain committed to a system bound to fail? Through such a statement, Horowitz argues, Hobsbawm admits “the religious nature of radical beliefs” — in other words, the commitment to a world with no connection to reality. [Snip] Similarly effective and disquieting is Horowitz’s dissection of Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States, a text used in many American history courses, which presents American national development as a sordid tale of racial evil and capitalist exploitation unparalleled in the world. Such a distorted screed can serve no educational purpose; rather, it is a tool of leftist indoctrination to guarantee that college students are taught to despise their leaders, feel ashamed of their country, and be unable to assess American achievement in comparison with that of other nations. Even more mendacious is the autobiography of Rigoberta Menchu, a much-lauded personal memoir of revolutionary struggle, which pleads the case of the Guatemalan poor and the moral necessity for Marxist revolution to redress it. As Horowitz shows, the book is a tissue of falsehoods to sway gullible western readers — especially university students, who have studied it by the thousands — to the Communist cause; media and academic collusion in the fraud has been widespread. The intellectual strengths Horowitz brings to his project are, if not unique, certainly rare: a comprehensive grasp of leftist history, its movements, tactics, splinter groups, and ideological currents, combined with an analytical precision enabling him to expose, at the micro-level, the various falsehoods and murderous sleights of hand that characterize leftist arguments. Horowitz is devastatingly good both at illustrating the wide-scale destructiveness of leftist ideas and also at tracing the underhanded rhetorical stratagems in individual’s statements. His ability to clarify the layers of self-deceit and irrational hatred in platforms claiming to promote peace or concern for the poor is unvaryingly sharp. The moral urgency of his writing is articulated in bracingly clear, assured prose — shafts of truth that cut through the fog of leftist platitudes.” Review: The Black Book of the American Left, Volume II: Rare intellectual strengths characterize the second volume of David Horowitz’s collected writings.

Net Neutrality

Proving that the federal government can never leave anything alone. “A previous set of rules from 2010 was struck down by an appeals court in January after Verizon challenged them. The FCC says the rules currently proposed follow the blueprint set forth by that court decision. But the commission also will consider the possibility of defining Internet service providers as “common carriers,” like utilities, which could subject them to a higher level of regulation.” FCC Votes to Go Forward With Net Neutrality Rules Hat tip: Gayla Coletto, Palo Verde RW member

Senator Ted Cruz vows to fight this. “The primary approach, favored by the agency’s chairman, Thomas Wheeler, would bar Internet service providers (such as Verizon) from blocking any content from consumers, while requiring any providers who want to offer preferential “fast lane” service to content providers such as Google or Netflix to get approval from the FCC in advance. Such rules would be harmful to the growth of the Internet, but any supporters of regulation (including the pot bangers) objected they did not go far enough. Although premium service offerings are common in every industry from airlines to ice cream, regulation supporters were appalled by the idea that money would be used to allocate resources on the Internet. In the end, the proposal the FCC adopted today left open the possibility of more extensive restrictions, ranging from an outright ban on premium treatment for content providers to adoption of some form of regulation process for broadband. Now the proposals await comment by the public, a process that will extend through September 10. Hopefully, this will give the PANS crowd (“Potential Advanced Network Services,” in FCC-speak) time to stand up for Internet freedom.” FCC Moves Forward With ‘Net Neutrality’ Rules

The Obama Administration

Lawlessness everywhere within this administration. “AT News Director Ed Lasky has chronicled the shameful problems with Obama administration inspector generals for years, including the political pressures put on IG’s in almost every department of the administration. [Snip] Beyond politicized IG’s, there is also the matter of Obama’s failure to name and get confirmed permanent Inspector Generals. Nine major departments. including State, do not have permanent IG’s. There is also the war on inspector generals that the administration continues to wage.[Snip] After more than 5 years, it’s clear that the president prefers a certain kind of IG – pliant, and understanding of the administration’s political necessities. You wonder what other investigations have been squealched or otherwise hampered by politicized inspector generals.” Government ethics attorneys say Obama’s IG system is broken

Obamacare

Unreal.Reuters reports the filing of a notable Obamacare-related lawsuit against Blue Shield of California:

Consumers who purchased new health plans from Blue Shield of California have sued the insurer, claiming they were misled into thinking the insurance would cover their desired doctors and hospitals.

Reuters doesn’t bother to point out the similarity of the allegations against Blue Shield to Barack Obama’s incessantly repeated falsehoods promoting the enactment of Obamacare. [Snip] Blue Shield stands charged with the offense to which Barack Obama has pleaded guilty in his own mealymouthed way. The difference between them is that if Blue Shield committed the offense to which Obama has pleaded guilty, Blue Shield will be required to make it right, while Obama gets to laugh all the way home.” LIES OF OBAMACARE

It must be done, but does the Republican party have the spine? “It’s a question often asked these days in conservative circles: Do you really think Obamacare can be repealed? Usually uttered behind closed doors, the question reveals both an un-Reagan-like pessimism and something of a disconnect from political reality. Obamacare was profoundly unpopular when the Democrats went ahead and passed it anyway, daring the American people to make them pay. Voters responded by removing more Democrats from congressional seats—69 between the two chambers—than they had since before Ted Williams first donned a Red Sox uniform, in the spring of 1939. In 2012, the failed Republican presidential-selection process yielded a nominee who didn’t make Obamacare a central issue and later called it “very attractive.” He lost despite Obamacare’s continuing unpopularity, which was indicated by exit polling. Now that Obamacare has finally gone into effect, its combined impact on Americans’ health insurance, their health costs, and their personal freedom—not to mention the nation’s solvency—has been far worse than its supporters advertised and possibly even worse than its opponents predicted. In response, President Obama has refused to implement the legislation as written, unlawfully altering parts of it as if he were a one-man Congress. Meanwhile, the 123 polls taken on Obamacare during his second term (according to Real Clear Politics) have all found it to be unpopular, with more than two-thirds of those polls—and 8 of the 10 most recent polls—showing approval deficits in the double-digits. So—yes—Obamacare can, should, and must be repealed. America’s future as a nation of liberty, prosperity, civil society, and laws depends on it. Indeed, given its unpopularity, the question should be: How can Obamacare not be repealed? What’s more, Republicans, as the party of limited government, not only have an obligation to repeal Obamacare but would benefit politically from doing so. More specifically, they would benefit politically from putting forward the alternative to Obamacare that is the key to achieving its full repeal.” The Road to Repeal

Budget busting, just as we suspected. “The Medicaid news is not good. Lots of people signing up? Yes. Is that a good thing? No – it’s bad for poor Americans who need health insurance and bad for taxpayers everywhere. Yesterday, Indiana’s Mike Pence (R) became the latest governor to move toward expanding his state’s Medicaid program with new federal funding allocated by Obamacare. Pence is trying to advance some consumer-driven reforms, but he will likely end up with more than he bargained for. Heritage expert Nina Owcharenko warns, “As with most new government programs, original estimates are likely not the true full cost.” California is figuring that out. The Los Angeles Times reports that “Enrollment is expected to exceed previous estimates by 1.4 million, and administration officials said it would cost the state $1.2 billion more than originally thought.” That means a lot of states may see budget-busting additions to earlier estimates, which already predicted that expanding Medicaid would be costly.” States Begin to Face Overwhelming Obamacare Reality

Rush Limbaugh

This has got the Left tied up in knots. “This is news that makes me grin: Rush Limbaugh has won Author of the Year from the Children’s Book Council. He won for his Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims: Time-Travel Adventures with Exceptional Americans. For that book and its companion, Rush Revere and the First Patriots, go here. Rush talked about the awards ceremony on his show yesterday — the transcript is here. Within this transcript, you will find a video, showing Rush’s acceptance speech. He did not expect to win. Incidentally, I grinned at the music they played when Rush’s name was announced: the Overture to Bernstein’s Candide. Bernstein was a terrible lefty, but if he had a sliver of an open mind, he would have enjoyed Rush a lot (as anyone would).” Joy in Mudville

Tyranny

When will such tyranny end? My thought is that it’s just getting started. Please pardon the poor grammar, but we ain’t seen nothing yet. “First they lost their television show. Now the Benham brothers say they are losing their business. SunTrust Banks is cutting ties with would-be reality stars David and Jason Benham after liberal activists attacked them for their conservative views on abortion and gay marriage, The Daily Caller has learned. In a statement provided first to TheDC on Friday, the Benham brothers confirmed that SunTrust Banks has pulled all of its listed properties with the Benham brothers’ bank-owned property business, which includes several franchisees across four states.” Exclusive: SunTrust Cuts Business Ties With Benham Brothers After Conservative Views Attacked
