Stories of the Day
Guess which sex is being aborted: this is the REAL war on women… “Ann Furedi, of BPAS, said the law does not prevent women from choosing a termination on the grounds of gender and she even compared it to abortion after rape. Mrs Furedi’s comments come weeks after it was disclosed that the CPS had decided not to prosecute two doctors who were exposed by a Daily Telegraph investigation arranging terminations purely because the unborn baby was a girl.” Women are legally free to abort a baby because of its sex, says abortion charity head
Why can’t those on the Left see that our president is an unmitigated disaster for our country and the world? “A Caesar at home and a Chamberlain abroad, Obama manages to simultaneously provoke fury and ridicule. He bullies critics here while shrinking from adversaries there. He divides the country and unites the world against us, diminishing the nation in both ways. His reign of error can’t end soon enough, nor can it end well.” Chickens come home to roost for Obama
The big problem is this: so many Democrats (at least in my friendship circles)are unwilling to say they made a voting mistake… “The country must weather a little over 2 more years of this awful presidency and hope it survives it somehow. If it survives it, one has to hope that upon reflection, the voters will realize that electing a president isn’t a beauty contest nor is it a venue within which to make a social statement. ”The first” this or that are not as important as the ability of the candidate to govern competently. And, it is is certainly not a position in which the incumbent should be engaged in “on the job training”. Hopefully these lessons have been learned and, in 2016, we’ll see a resurgence of common sense among the voting public.” Obama’s chickens come home to roost
More on the disaster that is President Obama. “Imagine if a former Republican presidential candidate and U.S. senator had called a current Republican president a delusional liar whose programs are wasteful. Would the mainstream media not be all over the story? Such a person would be interviewed at length by Wolf Blitzer on CNN as well as made the rounds of the morning talk shows and the Sunday news programs as well. The media buzz would be red hot on this topic for days extending into weeks. Well, there is such a person but because he is a Democrat saying these things about President Obama, we can expect him to become an MSM nonperson. Such seems to already be the fate of former presidential candidate and U.S. Senator Bob Kerrey. It is no surprise that his extended criticisms of Obama appeared in in a Daily Mail article in Britain, not in America where the shunning seems to have already begun.” Bob Kerrey Calls Obama a Delusional Liar; Renders Himself MSM Nonperson
Our side is always trying to educate and do the right thing, all while the other side is conniving and lying to get their way. “While conservatives try to win by convincing voters they are right on the issues, leftists manipulate the rules so they can win no matter who is more popular or persuasive on the substance. That was the message last Thursday from noted election lawyer Cleta Mitchell, reiterating at the Heritage Foundation’s Resource Bank in New Orleans a message she has been promoting for quite some time. Mitchell is right. Process really matters. Until conservatives master the process, they won’t win.” Using Rules against Radicals: On manipulating the political process, the Right is left behind.
Election integrity, Democrat party style. “Democratic congressional candidate and former Obama administration official Ro Khanna recruited two Republican candidates to enter a primary race to split the vote and weaken his top Republican opponent, according to a lawsuit filed in Superior Court of California. Khanna’s campaign, the executive committee of which includes five Obama campaign veterans, recruited an Indian-American candidate with a similar name to Republican opponent Vanila Singh to confuse voters, according to the lawsuit filed by Alameda County Republican Central Committee member Jeffrey Wald and obtained by The Daily Caller.” Lawsuit: Democratic candidate recruited last-minute Republican candidates to split primary vote
Journalistic malpractice. “Leland Yee should be making national headlines. A Democratic state senator from San Francisco, a statewide candidate until this week, and a rising member of Nancy Pelosi and Diane Feinstein’s Democratic political machine, was arrested on Wednesday by the Justice Department for wire fraud, corruption, and his alleged involvement in illegal gun deal between Chinatown gangsters and Islamist militants. [Snip] Yet four of the most prominent news outlets in America — CNN, USA Today, Politico and the Chicago Sun-Times — made no mention of the Leland Yee scandal within two days of the story breaking. When Politico finally ran a story mentioning Lee on March 28, he was mentioned in passing, along with two other Democrats facing criminal charges, in a piece only 125 words long. In their first story on the scandal, CBS failed to say that Yee is a Democrat. Only buried in a later story specifically focused on the political ramification did CBS include Yee’s party affiliation. The first piece written by an ABC correspondent likewise did not mention that Yee is a Democrat, though ABC did publish stories from the AP that referenced Yee’s party affiliation.” Mainstream Media Runs Away from Democratic Chinatown Gangster/Gun-Controller Story
“CNN dismissed complaints that the network was not covering last week’s shocking arrest of Democrat Leland Yee, the California state senator who was arrested for alleged arms trafficking and bribery, and falsely asserted that it does not give attention to state senators. That standard did not apply to Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis, whom CNN covered relentlessly. This was long before she even considered a gubernatorial run after filibustering a bill to ban abortions after 20 weeks and make those conducted before then safer.” Leland Yee Blackout: CNN Mocks Citizen Who Wants Coverage of Arms Trafficking Scandal
This is the story that the mainstream media doesn’t find important… “Yee was determined to make it happen. According to the agent’s affidavit, Yee’s fundraising chief asked for a donation to Yee’s campaign, in exchange for which he promised that Yee would “facilitate a meeting” between an arms dealer and the supposed arms trafficker, so that the trafficker could “purchase a large number of weapons to be imported through the Port of Newark, New Jersey.” At a meeting during these negotiations, Yee “discussed certain details of the specific types of weapons [the agent] was interested in buying and importing.” Yee boasted that he had “an unidentified Filipino associate who was supplying ‘heavy’ weapons to rebel groups in the Philippines.” The Senator explained that “Mindanao was largely populated by Muslim rebel groups who were fighting the federal government. Yee continued by saying the Muslim rebels had no problem ‘kidnapping individuals, killing individuals, and extorting them for ransom.” When the undercover agent asked him which Muslim organization he meant, Yee answered: “M.I.L.F.” That’s the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), the Islamic group in that wants to establish an Islamic state in the southern Philippines, and to that end last September took over four Christian towns, terrorizing the residents and murdering six, wounding 24, and murdered six more people in a restaurant bombing last summer.” Leland Yee: An Anti-Gun Democrat Jihadists Can Love
“Not a conspiracy, guys. Just negligence you’re attempting to cover up with an obvious falsehood. A search at CNN.com on “state senator” (in quotes) returned over 2,800 results. The quotes matter because a search on “state senator” not in quotes returned over 25,000 results.” CNN.com Hasn’t Covered Leland Yee Arrest, Gets Snippy When Challenged
Delusional. “Vice President Joe Biden argued overhauling the nation’s immigration laws will not only bolster the U.S. economy but help win “respect” from other countries in the Western Hemisphere. [Snip] Illegal alien amnesty will not only save our economy and create jobs, it will save our foreign policy. The moment we legalize illegal aliens, Maduro will stop beating protesters in Venezuela, Morales will stop throwing tantrums in Bolivia and Kirchner will stop trying to start a new war with the UK. [Snip] Oddly these same countries that will only respect us once we legalize 12 million illegal aliens, have strict immigration laws. Maybe we need to respect ourselves as much as they respect themselves, for them to respect us.” Biden: We Need Illegal Alien Amnesty so South America Will Respect Us
You just have to look at what has happened to my beloved state of California to know that it is working… “’Under the guise of setting ‘priorities,’ the Administration has determined that almost anyone in the world who can enter the United States is free to illegally live, work and claim benefits here as long as they are not caught committing a felony or other serious crime.’” [Snip] “Obama and generations of leftist politicians before him have been using immigration to subvert the American system. In the 1960s the late Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) shepherded reform of that era’s immigration laws through Congress. The concept is simple: Flood America with people who don’t share Americans’ traditional philosophical commitment to the rule of law, limited government, and markets, in order to force changes in society. So far the plan is working.” Obama’s Illegal Immigration Free-For-All
Sorry for the link to the New York Times, but it’s an interesting article about our candidates for Arizona governor. “In the weeks since Gov. Jan Brewer announced that she would not run for re-election, the already crowded field of Republicans looking to replace her has grown noisy, with nine candidates of widely varying interests and experiences vying for attention. The very definition of “Republican” in this state of traditional social conservatism and a booming Latino population is up for grabs — perhaps a harbinger of a national identity crisis as the 2014 elections approach. “The choice is about the kind of Republican Party the 1.1 million Republican voters in the state want to have,” said Tim Sifert, the party’s communications director.” Nine in G.O.P. Vie to Succeed Arizona Governor, With Party Identity at Stake
Apparently my favorite talk radio show host has made his decision as to who should be our next governor. “I have endorsed State Treasurer Doug Ducey in the race and will hold a small fundraiser for him in April. He is a conservative, a successful businessman, and has run and won state-wide in 2010 and led state’s anti-tax hike forces two years later in the defeat of a state wide initiative pushing a billion-dollar tax hike. [Snip] Democrats talk wistfully about flipping Arizona from red to blue even as Republicans say the same about Colorado. These two states, along with Florida, Virginia, New Hampshire, Nevada and of course Ohio will be the keystones in the 2016 map, and every senate and governors’ race in each of them matters greatly. While the national media is focused this weekend on the “Adelson primary,” the Times has sent a signal on which one really matters to the left. Here’s why: If the Democrats force a lousy nominee on the GOP in Arizona, they can sneak the state away as they did with Janet Napolitano in 2002 with 46% of the vote. Expect the Times and every other left-wing megaphone to try and pump up anyone but Ducey who simply could not be beaten by a Democrat. The Arizona Governor’s Race: Doug Ducey Should Be The GOP’s Nominee
Why don’t the tax payers just buy all of them a car too! “The measure will provide an avenue for the state’s three to four million undocumented immigrants to obtain licenses, which advocates have said are necessary in order for the immigrants to get to and from work. The law is expected to allow up to 1.4 million undocumented immigrants to obtain licenses. To accommodate that expected influx of new drivers, the state’s DMV is setting up five facilities throughout California. The facilities will be opened in the areas of San Jose, the South Central Coast, Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego, DMV spokewoman Jessica Gonzalez told The Daily Caller News Foundation.” NOT KIDDING: California opening NEW facilities just for illegal immigrants to get driver’s licenses
The Left would love to get rid of all of us conservatives, if they could get away with it. “I don’t know how serious Adam Weinstein is about wanting to arrest, try, and jail people he considers “climate change deniers.” It could be that he gets a kick out of goosing some of the conspiracists who lump global warming advocates in with Men in Black, the NWO, and FEMA slave labor camps. No one can possibly be serious about putting people in jail for what they believe, or what they say, right? But he apparently is. And that’s why this post gives me a spot of nausea when I read it. People with ideas like Weinstein’s are the reason other people are buying guns. This should not be seen in any way as a direct personal threat against Weinstein. But he has to understand that when liberals talk like this, they are the ones threatening others. They are the ones who would take away what the Constitution guarantees. They are the ones that many people think they need protecting from.” Gawker’s Adam Weinstein Wants to Put You in Jail for Being a Climate Change ‘Denier’
The kids are bored and the smartest kids now think they’re stupid. A must watch video! “A Missouri kindergarten teacher testified Thursday in support of a bill that would prohibit the Common Core State Standards in the state’s public schools – despite efforts by others to keep her from speaking out. Susan Kimball, a 20-year veteran teacher, told the Missouri Senate Education Committee that she has been bullied and intimidated since she began opposing the controversial standards, according to The Missouri Torch.” Watch: Teacher’s tearful testimony on being bullied and intimidated for opposing Common Core Hat tip: Gayla Coletto, Palo Verde RW member
This Common Core stuff is really very sickening. “The litany of frighteningly stupid Common Core math worksheets never ends. Perhaps now, though, kids are starting to fight back in satisfyingly creative ways.” This second grader’s revenge against Common Core math will make your day
Attempting to shut down dissent. “’It’s disappointing, but unfortunately, not surprising, that many of the organizations which are pushing the Common Core are now trying so hard to drown out HSLDA’s message in our documentary, Building the Machine,” William Estrada, Director of Federal Relations of HSLDA, told Breitbart News. “As the documentary will make clear when it is released on Monday, this issue is far more than what standards public schools should use. It is about who will decide how and what our children are taught.” ‘Should it be centralized education planners and the federal government? Or should it be parents, teachers, and democratically-elected local school boards and the states?” asked Estrada. “HSLDA, and a growing chorus of concerned parents, educators, and leaders, believe it should be the latter.’” Exclusive: Common Core Developers Attack National Homeschooling Group over Documentary
“From the floor of the Senate, Reid says these two men, Charles and David Koch, are “un-American” and are trying “to buy America.” Without the terrible specter of the Koch brothers, Harry Reid would be disarmed. He has no issue for his Democratic senators to run on; the minimum wage and climate change are not enough. Nor has he another means of inspiring donors to open their checkbooks. He only has fear, fear of the Kochs, fear of extractive industry, fear of the portion of the elite that favors economic freedom. The Koch brothers, Reid says, “rig the system to benefit themselves.” He should know.” Papa Reid: The Senate majority leader serves the interests of the Reid family above all else.
“This week the indictment and arrests of leading San Francisco and California Democrat politicians follows a long string of corruption cases involving prominent Democrats. It brings to mind the ridiculous charges by Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (echoing Howard Dean) that the Republicans were responsible for a “culture of corruption” and that she, a woman, was going to sweep the Congress clean of it. [Snip] The Boston Herald’s Howie Carr detailed the week’s criminal roundup and noted:
What a crime wave, in less than one week. So guess what most of the networks led with on their newscasts last night? The 5-month-old story of Gov. Chris Christie’s Bridgegate. Because it has one thing going for it that none of these other stories had, the only thing that matters to the corrupt American media.
Christie is a Republican.” Bridge(gate)ing the Democrats’ Culture of Corruption
“While conservatives talk, liberals build. While conservatives argue, liberals build infrastructure that they control. While conservatives fine tune arguments, deciding which ideas to keep and which to ‘evolve’ on, liberals win the argument by building institutions around people. [Snip] A local couple called 10News concerned after they received an envelope from the state’s Obamacare website, Covered California. Inside was a letter discussing voter registration and a registration card pre-marked with an “x” in the box next to Democratic Party.” California’s ObamaCare Sends Voter Cards Pre-Marked for Democratic Party
Democrats vs. Republicans
“The top richest districts in the US vote Democrat according to a new Associated Press report. The AP reported:
Republicans are the party of the rich, right? It’s a label that has stuck for decades, and you’re hearing it again as Democrats complain about GOP opposition to raising the minimum wage and extending unemployment benefits.
But in Congress, the wealthiest among us are more likely to be represented by a Democrat than a Republican. Of the 10 richest House districts, only two have Republican congressmen. Democrats claim the top six, sprinkled along the East and West coasts. Most are in overwhelmingly Democratic states like New York and California.” Democrats Continue to Be Party of the Rich – Republicans Carry the Working Class
“Even if you think that Romney is a squishy RINO Massachusetts technocrat with a secret crush on Obamacare, you have to be on the wrong side of the border between ideologically hardcore and ideologically blinded to conclude that spending four years fighting against the very worst imaginable tendencies of a Romney administration would have been anything other than wine and roses compared with spending four years fighting against the very worst tendencies of an Obama administration, especially when the president is in the position of never having to face another election.” Which Side Are You On? If you don’t care whether Republicans win, care that Democrats lose.
“Since the crisis, and more likely decades before, we (the people) have been apparently ‘happy’ to have a small group of people in charge of picking winners and losers. “While free markets may have their hiccups,” CNBC’s Rick Santelli notes, when it comes to allocating resources, “the aggregate behavior of the marketplace is better than individuals.” Crucially, Santelli blasts, if you’re a saver, you understand now that you weren’t picked as winner.” In fact, some might even say the ‘saver’ is the enemy of the recovery, but according to the Central Banks, as Rick rages, it is deflation that is the enemy. Bankers and governments love inflation because “if you owe a lot of people a lot of money, there’s nothing better than to pay it back with cheaper money.” So, at the cost of living standards for the lower/middle class, the government inflates its debt away – so who is the real enemy.” Rick Santelli Exposes The Real Enemy (And It’s Not Deflation)
“Some vulnerable Democratic senators running in red states are finding it hard to run on the issues being pushed by national party leaders like the minimum wage increase and the “war on women.” So they’ve taken the attitude that if you can’t beat ‘em — join ‘em. They are adopting some Republican positions on the issues in a desperate effort to stave off disaster.” Key for Vulnerable Democrats: Run Like a Republican
Eventually the Republicans are going to be extinct. “Young Americans between the ages of 18-29 have become more Democratic since 2007 according to the latest Gallup Poll. But the reason is not their support for gay marriage or any other social issue. It’s mostly a demographic change. There are more non-whites in that age group than ever before and that is skewing the numbers toward the Democrats.” Gallup: Young Americans trending more Democratic
They’re desperate. “Every day, it seems, there are signs of the Democrats’ increasing desperation. They obviously don’t like what they see in the polls and are worried about November. But what to do about it? It would be hard to ratchet up their customary hysteria much higher, so they are reaching deeper into their bag of tricks. One of which–everything old is new again!–is demagoguing Social Security. It is a tried and true tactic, and over the last few weeks we have seen several indications that the Dems are dusting it off again. Today I got an email from the Democrats pushing this bumper sticker:
Thank FDR for Social Security! Of course, Roosevelt won’t be on the ballot. And is Social Security somehow an issue in this year’s election? Not that I’ve noticed. So this appears to be mostly a nostalgia play: forget about Obamacare, the stimulus, lousy economic growth, $17 trillion in debt, Libya, Syria and Ukraine, and recall the glory days!” Democrat Desperation
“However, it’s no wonder the average American citizen who isn’t a political junkie is misled by these pundits who are purposely creating this big illusion to trick and misinform the voters. I hope every conservative out there can ring the alarm bell with their friends and neighbors about what is really going on behind the curtain with the old Republican guard and help lead the conservatives to victory over both the GOP establishment and the Left this year.” The GOP Establishment Media Continue To Lie To The American People Hat tip: Gayla Coletto, Palo Verde RW member
“Russia is not a superpower on the order of the former Soviet Union. But Putin’s animosity towards the United States, coupled with Russia’s expanding role internationally through alliances with countries in Latin America, Asia and the Middle East, Russia’s exploitation of its permanent member status on the UN Security Council and its nuclear arms and cyber warfare capabilities, all add up to a very dangerous geopolitical foe. President Obama needs to wake up to the fact that Vladimir Putin will not be content to play only in his own neighborhood, and that he has a variety of tools at hand to cause serious mischief far from Russia’s own borders.” Russia’s Threat in the Americas
“Because warriors like Glenn Beck are constantly under fire, and because their truth is constantly being erased, it is important to know who they are and to never lose sight of it. That is why I am going to take a moment to tell you about the man Glenn Beck is, about what he has done for himself, and what he is trying to do for his country.” Glenn Beck: America’s Defender
“Nate Silver, the Svengali of political prognostication, has spoken: The Republicans now have a better-than-even chance of taking the Senate in November’s midterm elections. That’s bad news for Democrats in general. But it’s very bad news for Hillary Clinton in particular.” Why Barack Obama is the biggest obstacle to a Hillary Clinton presidency:If she chooses to run, she’ll have to campaign in the shadow of an unpopular president
The Koch Brothers
“I wonder if people quite appreciate how disgusting this all is. Here we have two Democratic senators labeling a private citizen as being “un-American” because that citizen is vocally advocating public policies they disagree with. [Snip] Senators Reid and Schumer, small and mean men, are trying to usher in a new age of unreason. This is no time for those who oppose them to keep silent. Because we cannot escape responsibility for the result.” Odious Chuck Schumer and Harry Reid
“The ads themselves, which have inflamed Democrats this election season, represent five years of knowledge, accumulated through polls and focus groups, about how to use the health-care issue to pull Americans into the GOP camp. With AFP having spent over $30 million so far this year to bring down sitting Democratic senators, the ads also symbolize the changing nature of American politics. Since the Supreme Court’s 2010 Citizens United decision, unlimited outside spending by 501(c)(4) social-welfare groups has finally allowed Republicans to match the political muscle of labor unions, whose spending was also blown open by the decision, but which have long poured money into Democratic coffers.” Inside the Koch-Funded Ads Giving Dems Fits: A years-long campaign is bearing fruit.
“The Washington Post published a false story about support for Keystone because it fit the Democratic Party’s agenda,” he said. “It covered up a similar but true story about opposition to the pipeline because that, too, fit the Democratic Party’s agenda.”
“’The Powerline article itself, and its tone, is strong evidence that issues surrounding the Koch brothers’ political and business interests will stir and inflame public debate in this election year,” responded Mr. Mufsin and Ms. Eilperin. “That’s why we wrote the piece.’ They justify their literally false and grossly misleading story “because the outrage their shoddy attack provoked proves the relevance of the Kochs,” said Jonah Goldberg of National Review. “By this logic any unfair attack posing as reporting is worthwhile when people try to correct the record. Why not just … accuse the Kochs of killing JFK or hiding the Malaysian airplane?” If Jeff Bezos, The Washington Post’s new owner, wants to run a newspaper rather than a Democrat propaganda sheet, he has some housecleaning to do.” Will Bezos Respond to Post’s Fictitious Koch Attack?
“Yesterday, a Twitter fight exploded when Ebony senior editor Jamilah Lemieux dismissed RNC deputy press secretary Raffi Williams as “a white dude trying to tell me how to do this Black thing.” However, Raffi is not a “white dude,” as those of us who know him can attest, but is African-American. Lemieux later offered an apology of sorts for not checking his Twitter profile more closely, but as Twitchy noted, that was hardly the salient issue at hand.” RNC chair to Ebony magazine: Apologize; Update: Ebony apologizes
“Dr. Sharon Malone may not be a household name to you, but Essence Magazine has bestowed upon her the title of “The First Lady of Justice,” because she is the wife of Attorney General Eric Holder. And it turns out that she is also a landlord, and has rented quarters to a Georgia abortionist just convicted of Medicaid fraud and headed to prison. [Snip’’] So, to recap: the family of the chief law enforcement officer of the United States moved quickly to obscure their ownership of a property used to house an abortion clinic that shortly afterward became entangled in a prosecution for defrauding Medicaid. That very same attorney general is charged with enforcing federal laws (note that it was the Great State of Georgia not the feds who brought this case) regulating abortion and the use of federal funds for same. Ho hum, nothing to see here. Move along. As Tim Graham reminds us, imagine if John Ashcroft’s wife had owned a building used by someone convicted of defrauding Medicaid.” The ‘first lady of justice’ and the convicted abortion Medicaid fraudster
The individual vs. the state. Which do you choose? “The progressive paradigm is diffuse and sophisticated, but it may be summarized in one thought, namely that individuals exist for the State, rather than the State for individuals. This is not a new idea, on its face; what is new is that this idea, which used to be called tyranny, has been recast as morality. An alliance of serious thinkers and clever subversives has fundamentally shifted the burden of proof in moral matters to favor the presumption of collective authority over every aspect of life. This deep-seated principle reduces everyone who has not radically purged himself of it to the Pyrrhic position of arguing that the slackening of government control is justifiable because it will benefit the State in some way — defending freedom as a more efficient way of achieving tyrannical goals, rather than as our birthright. [Snip] Let’s return to the only argument worthy of the subject: Individuals are metaphysically and morally prior to collectives. Happiness is our proper moral motivation. The free man does not have to justify himself to the State; the State has to justify itself to the free man. These are the premises we have inherited from our tradition and from our nature, though we now grope for them with difficulty through the smog of despotic philosophy that dominates our world.” Progressivism vs. the Pursuit of Happiness
Well we choose the right path? “Now is the time for a new social uprising, one that demands liberty from the chains of Marx’s class warfare. The curtain has been lifted to reveal that Marx’s “class warfare” notion has been carefully manipulated by an intellectual elite bent on ruling society at the cost of the freedom of those they perniciously reward with the scraps from their royal table. However, the greatest gift in this confrontation isn’t the truth that is being revealed, but the hope that perhaps we will be disinformed no more.” The End of the Dowager Democrat Disinformation Era: Time for a New Social Order
The new totalitarians. “Progressive overconfidence shows itself most obviously in their serial efforts to remake American society, but most ominously in their lack of tolerance for those who endanger their deepest commitments. The measure of a man (or a movement) is not what he will plead when he is weak, but what he will do when he is strong. From powerful corporations like Hobby Lobby to all but powerless bakers in Oregon more and more have seen what happens when the Progressive mask is removed and those who asked only for toleration half a generation ago enforce an ever-narrowing conformity today. Progressives call this progress?” What Happens When The Facts Don’t Fit The Progressive Script?
From the comments: “Better an unequal distribution of wealth than an equal distribution of poverty. Because, in the real world, those are the options.” “But faster economic growth is an antidote. New wealth makes old wealth less important and influential. The dynamic innovation that drives faster growth creates new opportunities for workers, as long as education keeps up. And it matters less that wealth concentrates increasingly at the high end, among the 1 percent, if faster growth results in rising incomes for everybody else. Even if inequality in the Unites States has returned to levels last seen in the 1920s, the average American is many times wealthier than he was back then. Unfortunately, Piketty’s anti-inequality agenda, including wealth taxes and top tax rates of 80 percent, could make slow growth a self-fulfilling prophecy. Piketty seems untroubled by this possibility. Nor does he explore solutions to turn more workers into capital owners. It’s the part about innovation and economic growth that really undermined Marx’s prediction of a capitalist apocalypse. And it may also undermine the prediction of his would-be successor.” The New Marxism, Part Two: Leftists have their dearest Das Kapital fantasies confirmed by the theories of a Parisian economist.
I am going to try this the next time it is appropriate. “Looking at the high gas prices at the pumps the other day, I had the usual and obvious thought, “When Bush was president the press blamed it all on him, and now that Obama’s president you hear the sound of MSM crickets chirping.” Then it occurred to me that one simple way into a discussion with a liberal about how incredibly biased the media is would be to point that fact out. I’m not so sure even most liberals could deny it. They might pooh-pooh its significance, but they might have trouble saying it hasn’t happened, or explaining it as anything other than bias. And then you could point out that if the media would do that, how could you trust them to tell the truth about other things? What else are they distorting or omitting through bias? It might be worth a try, anyway. With leftists, don’t even try.” Gas prices: getting a foot in the door?
“The “right” or entitlement to employer-subsidized abortifacients at issue in Hobby Lobby is a pure creation of the administrative agencies enforcing the regime of Obamacare. It is an artifact of the state. It has nothing in common with the rights proclaimed in the Declaration. It has nothing in common with the rights protected by the Constitution. Indeed, as the Hobby Lobby case illustrates, the administrative state is at war with these rights. Welfare state “rights” created by Congress or administrative agencies differ and conflict with the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. They are claims on the liberty of others. If I have a right to medical care, you must have a corresponding duty to supply it. If I have a right to a decent home, you must have a duty to provide it. The argument for the welfare state belongs in the same family as “the arguments that kings have made for enslaving the people in all ages of the world. You will find that all the arguments in favor of king-craft were of this class; they always bestrode the necks of the people, not that they wanted to do it, but because the people were better off for being ridden.” That’s Lincoln again.” “Rights” of Obamacare
“Kagan’s mistake, if that’s what it was, goes to the heart of a serious contemporary problem: the proliferation of bureaucratic regulation carrying the force of law, wholly produced not by legislation, but by bureaucrats. It should be deeply shocking and embarrassing if a sitting Supreme Court Justice confused bureaucratic regulation for actual statutory language. A former Harvard Law School professor, and dean, no less. One of the reasons we venerate the Supreme Court is that the justices are expected to immerse themselves in the cases, and ponder them deeply.” Did Justice Kagan embarrass herself during the Hobby Lobby oral arguments?
“You have to wonder sometimes if one of the multitude of “special advisors” to Barack Obama has a George Orwell fetish. All of us have read hundreds of blog articles and thousands of comments made in passing by co-workers, family, friends and the occasional total stranger that allude to the Obama administration and it’s resemblance to George Orwell’s seminal work, 1984. There have even been references to Orwell’s 1984 in columns published in the normally slavishly supportive main stream media, which are always easy to identify since the White House normally describes them as “hit pieces.” Orwellian descriptions of totalitarianism and control of the media via the Ministry of Truth are rampant in the book, but they are becoming more and more obvious in the actual workings of the Obama administration and throughout the Democrat Party.” Is George Orwell Working in the White House?
“Attn: Kosher butchers. You know that contraceptive mandate now before the Supreme Court? Turns out it may affect your freedom to keep kashrut — not to mention your living. At least, that is the opinion of the solicitor general of the United States, Donald Verrilli. He’s arguing the case for the Obama administration. And the claim is that for-profit corporations such as Hobby Lobby have no right to make free-exercise claims under the First Amendment.” Keep America kosher
