Stories of the Day
Spooky. “A family claims they are being terrorized by their cable box. For more than a week, personal and harassing messages are showing up on their TVs. Alana Meeks has no idea who’s behind it. “This stuff is uncanny. I haven’t heard anything like this in my life,” she said. ‘He says he’s a stalker.’” Family claims hacker taking control of cable box, sending threats
Are you paying attention Rep. Krysten Sinema (AZ CD9) ? “AP poll shows ObamaCare support hits new low … of 26%Democrats who still think that defending ObamaCare makes for a great midterm strategy will be shocked, shocked by the latest AP-Gfk survey results. The rest of us … not so much. Support for the law dropped to a record low in this polling series, and even the slight improvement in the perception of its implementation leaves it far below the Democratic base numbers.” AP poll shows ObamaCare support hits new low … of 26%
The criminal party. “In other words, stop thinking of the Democratic Party as merely a political party, because it’s much more than that. We’re not just the party of slavery, segregation, secularism, and sedition. Not just the party of Aaron Burr, Boss Tweed, Richard J. Croker, Bull Connor, Chris Dodd, Richard Daley, Bill Ayers, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, and Emperor Barack Hussein Obama II. Not just the party of Kendall “Agent 202” Myers, the State Department official recruited as a Cuban spy along with his wife during the Carter administration. Rather, think of the Democratic Party as what it really is: a criminal organization masquerading as a political party.” Time to Break Out the RICO Statute and Break Up the Democrats
Getting more violent. “Governmental violence is not a metaphor. It is not even an aberration. It is a daily occurrence. Often it is entirely justified: If a bank robber would rather shoot it out with the cops than surrender peacefully, his death will bring no loss to the world. If Osama bin Laden starts a fight with the U.S., then America should end it.” Government Power Rests on Violence and Coercion: From police brutality to the events in Ukraine, we’re reminded daily that government power is based on violence.
A life-long Democrat calls a spade a spade. “Helen scoffs at her friends who are grateful that Obama has given them “free” medical insurance via Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion. “It’s not free,” Helen says. “I pay my taxes and so does everyone else. So, if I get something for nothing, taxpayers pay for it. So, it’s not free.” Helen now embodies what happens when the government promises everyone everything for nothing. Hers is just one scary cameo in the endless 3-D Imax horror epic called Obamacare.” Obamacare’s Dependency Agenda: A Pennsylvania widow resists being pushed into welfare.
Enemies from within. “But in 2010, all that began to change, as Leftist “journalists” such as Spencer Ackerman and Islamic advocacy groups in the U.S. such as the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) began claiming that counterterror training was “Islamophobic,” and demanding that the Obama Administration scrub training materials of all mention of Islam and jihad in connection with terrorism, and stop bringing in “Islamophobic” trainers – including me. The Obama team quickly complied – as I explain in detail in my forthcoming book Arab Winter Comes to America: The Truth About the War We’re In. What changed was not what I was saying, which has remained the same throughout my public career. What changed was the regime in Washington, and its willingness to appease Leftists and Islamic supremacists.” Obama Administration partnered with Hamas-linked Muslim groups to purge counterterror training of truth about Islamic jihad
Stealth jihad. “In what some experts have termed a hostile “political warfare campaign” driven by an alliance between the administration, Islamic organizations and cooperating media figures, analysts and subject matter experts were blacklisted, and books and training materials were purged from official counter-terrorism training programs government-wide. This “purge” has contributed to clues being missed by the FBI in major terrorism cases, including last year’s bombing of the Boston Marathon recounted this past September in an episode of For The Record.” A detailed look at ‘the purge’ of U.S. counter-terrorism training by the Obama administration
Of course she feels this way. Because then they’ll be in charge of government for ever and ever. “Passing comprehensive immigration reform is more important than Democrats’ success at the polls in November, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Thursday. A number of Republicans and other conservative voices have accused Pelosi and the Democrats of using the immigration reform issue as a political crutch, suggesting the Democrats would rather keep the issue alive for campaign purposes than actually pass a bill. But Pelosi on Thursday rejected that notion outright, and she didn’t mince words. “I believe, and I say this with all the sincerity I have, that it is more important to pass comprehensive immigration reform — to me and to my caucus — than to win the election in November,” Pelosi said at a Washington gathering of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.” Pelosi: Immigration reform more important than winning House
Radical environmentalism about to run amok. “Suh’s radical views are especially hostile to fossil fuels like oil, natural gas and coal, which are used to generate most of the electrical power on which the U.S. economy depends. In a 2007 article, Suh called natural gas development “easily the single greatest threat to the ecological integrity of the West,” Arnold reported in a Dec. 14 column. Will she use her new powers to stop natural gas development? She now claims to support natural gas, but last year, while keynoting EGA’s 25th anniversary celebration, she said, “I look forward to working with you, my colleagues, mentors and friends, to utilize the skills and talents of the EGA community to advance a more resilient world and a resilient movement.” Those are the words of an ideological fellow-traveler determined to make full use of the government to advance the Big Green agenda.” Examiner Editorial: Senate Democrats set to confirm zealous foe of fossil fuels
Leads being buried in mainstream news publications all across this great land. “It’s all about the narrative.” BIG ANTI-GUN POLITICIAN CHARGED WITH GUN-RUNNING, New York Times buries it on page A21. “California: State Senator Accused of Corruption.”
Leftist’s ideology is pure, so they are never questioned. “The irony is that it’d be in the media’s business interest to report on the seedy underbelly of liberal politics, too. But they don’t, because they actually do put their liberal principles before profits.” Leland Yee, the Kochs, and the Press: There’s no journalistic skepticism about the motives of those on the left.
If it were me, I’d be ashamed to be a Democrat. “The Democrats, being still very much the party of Lyndon Baines Johnson, have never enjoyed a great reputation for integrity, but the past few days have been especially hard on them: California Democratic state senator and gun-rights foe Leland Yee was indicted as an illegal arms trafficker operating in partnership with a murder-for-hire operation headed by a Hong Kong gangster known as “Shrimp Boy”; the Democratic mayor of Charlotte, Patrick Cannon, was indicted on public-corruption charges related to local development and transit projects and to his allegedly accepting bribes in connection with a planned feminine-hygiene empire; in New York, a Democratic assemblyman’s office was raided on suspicion of misuses of travel funds; the Democratic leader of the U.S. Senate, Harry Reid, was caught channeling thousands of dollars in campaign money to his granddaughter, while omitting her surname, which is his surname, from the record. But, so far as we know, nobody had sex with anybody. When Republican officials or would-be officials are caught with their pants down — and their numbers have not been insignificant — it is taken as an instance of hypocrisy that undermines the GOP’s platform regarding traditional moral practices and family arrangements. There is something to that, but not as much as our pharisaical friends in the press would have us believe: For one thing, there is a difference between having a moral failing and holding political positions insincerely, an important distinction that rarely if ever enters into these discussions; and, for another thing, it’s not as if Bill Clinton ran in 1992 on a platform of sodomizing the interns and perjuring himself to cover it up.” Hypocrisy Hypocrisy: An indictment of the Democrats’ big-government agenda
How shocking! “The world of political news was captivated by Thursday’s report of the arrest of gun trafficking of a famously anti-gun California state senator. Yet while most other news outlets reported the incident, Politico, an outlet that supposedly leads the nation in political news, didn’t post a single story on the incident the day the news broke. This is the same Politico that managed to publish 90 separate stories on the Herman Cain sexual harassment scandal when it broke – within six days.” Politico Buries Senator Leland Yee’s Arms Trafficking Scandal
“Please, try not to let what I’m about to tell you destroy your faith in the integrity of the national Democratic Party. Right now, a crime wave is sweeping the nation, and everyone in this out-of-control mob has a D after their names, even if most of the media are loath to report it. If you are a low-information voter, a Globe subscriber, say, you have been told endlessly that the root of all evil in American politics is the Tea Party, better known in your moonbat media as “teabaggers.” Oddly, however, the hacks rounded up over the last few days, well, let’s put it this way. They voted for Obama 100 percent. They think Obamacare’s great. How could they possibly be guilty as charged?” Carr: Democrats sinking in sea of charges
Not shocking. “The state with the most segregated public schools is New York. Other states with exceptionally segregated schools include California, Illinois and Michigan.” The states with the most segregated public schools are epicenters of liberalism
Getting ready for the fight. “The National Republican Senatorial Committee will send a letter to 34 Louisiana network affiliates Thursday requesting that an attack ad produced by the pro-Democratic Senate Majority PAC be pulled from television, and threatening legal action if it isn’t. The letter, penned by NRSC general counsel Megan Sowards, charges that the ad is “patently false.” “Since the Senate Majority PAC advertisement contains false and misleading statements, we hereby demand that your station stop airing this advertisement immediately,” the letter reads. “If you are unwilling to do so, we reserve the right to pursue any appropriate legal action and request an explanation of the basis of your decision in law or station policy.” NRSC demands Louisiana stations pull ad trying to link Bill Cassidy to Koch brothers
“This latest Saul Alinsky tactic got us thinking about who really qualifies as an American oligarch. If the definition is someone who becomes rich by association with government power and policies, and then assists those in power, the Kochs would barely make the list. Their companies are usually harassed by government.” Rate That Oligarch: A modest proposal for how liberals can rank their billionaire allies.
So it’s not just Republicans that can say stupid things. “The Democrats’ candidate for the Iowa Senate seat being vacated by Tom Harkin is Bruce Braley. Until Tuesday, Braley was the favorite. But then this video surfaced: Braley raising money from a group of big-ticket plaintiffs’ lawyers in Texas. Apparently a Republican sneaked into the gathering with a camera. Two can play that game! Braley assures the Texas lawyers that he is one of them; he has been “fighting tort reform” for thirty years! Whereas, if Republicans gain control of the Senate, Iowa Senator Charles Grassley will be chairman of the Judiciary Committee, and Grassley is only “a farmer from Iowa who never went to law school.” The horror!” Add Iowa to the GOP’s Senate Pickup List
Republican chances for a Senate take over looking even better. “When Nate Silver found that the Republicans have a 60 percent chance of capturing the Senate in this year’s election, he rated the GOP’s chances of winning the Iowa race at 25 percent. But that was before the Democratic candidate, Rep. Bruce Braley, dismissed popular Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley as a ‘farmer from Iowa who never went to law school.’” The Iowa Senate race becomes fully competitive
Let’s not be the stupid party again… okay?!?!? “In both 2010 and 2012, Republicans threw away golden opportunities to take control of the Senate by nominating outlier candidates that turned likely victories into defeats. The most prominent examples, such as Delaware’s Christine O’Donnell, Nevada’s Sharron Angle, and Missouri’s Todd Akin, illustrated not only how gaffe-ridden politicians could transform unpopular Democratic incumbents into winners but also the profound lack of seriousness on the part of many in the GOP. This kept Harry Reid in office (thanks to Angle) and in charge of the Senate. But it appears that not only have the issues and President Obama’s job performance put the Democrats in a tough position heading into the midterms, but that this year Republicans are behaving as if they are more interested in winning than in ideological purity or pursuing grudges.” GOP Playing to Win in 2014
Sinking ships. “President Obama is having a rough second term. His poll numbers are down; the economy remains stuck in first gear; and he looks increasingly hapless as a world leader. Commentators and politicians are beginning to wonder if his low standing with the American people will bring down Democrats in this year’s congressional elections. A bigger question is whether the president’s party can survive his second-term record and retain the White House following the 2016 election.” Will Obama Down the Democrats in 2016?
Laughing. “Somewhat belatedly, President Obama has called on Vladimir Putin to pull back his troops from the Russian-Ukraine border, where 80,000 have massed for several weeks in apparent preparation to enter eastern Ukraine. Also somewhat belatedly, Obama has begun taking Putin at his word on the loss of the Soviet Union.” Obama to Putin: Pull back from Ukraine border
Not working as expected. “My hypothesis is different. Obama has delivered the foreign policy Americans wanted, but not the results they hoped that policy would produce. The world does not love America, as many thought it might once we elected a figure as transcendent as The Anointed One. The world does not respect America because its “red lines” mean nothing. And the world has made a mockery of Obama’s faith that we have left 19th and 20th century realities behind.” As Obama retreats, America recoils
Crumbling. “Obama thinks otherwise. He says that Vladimir Putin’s kind of neo-imperialist thinking is a relic of the past — and advises Putin to transcend the Cold War. Good God. Putin hasn’t transcended the Russian revolution. Did no one give Obama a copy of Putin’s speech last week upon the annexation of Crimea? Putin railed not only at Russia’s loss of empire in the 1990s. He went back to the 1920s: “After the revolution, the Bolsheviks . . . may God judge them, added large sections of the historical South of Russia to the Republic of Ukraine.” Putin was referring not to Crimea (which came two sentences later) but to his next potential target: Kharkiv and Donetsk and the rest of southeastern Ukraine.” Obama vs. Putin: The Mismatch: Russia is running rings around America
Lying about the lying. “Is this a ploy aimed at the low information constituency? That can’t be ruled out – after all, Democrats are known to brazenly lie when Obamacare is being discussed, as illustrated by their current claim that the March 31 deadline is still in place, even as people are being allowed to register until some unknown future date so long as they click a button on their computer screen and claim they are having trouble meeting the deadline.” Harry Reid claims he never called Obamacare horror stories lies
He’s a laughing stock. Nevada should be embarrassed. “Via America Rising and the IJR, is this the key that finally unlocks the enigma of Harry Reid, tinpot demagogue? Maybe, from moment to moment, this guy just … doesn’t realize what’s coming out of his mouth. Hard to believe he could forget saying on the Senate floor that all ObamaCare horror stories — all of them — are a GOP/Koch brothers fairy tale designed to besmirch the stellar reputation of the Affordable Care Act. Those remarks got heavy coverage in conservative media, and even got picked up at WaPo. You don’t toss a grenade that powerful without choosing your target carefully. Or do you? Someone needs to ask this guy if he’s heard any unusual stories about Mitt Romney’s taxes. If he blanks on it, we’re onto something. Imagine how upset he’ll be when he finds out that even a few younger people have had trouble figuring out how Healthcare.gov works.” Harry Reid: I don’t recall accusing Republicans of lying about ObamaCare horror stories
Nevada, please retire this man. “Another man might have assumed, correctly, that launching a campaign of insult and insinuation against two billionaires would result in renewed attention to his own finances. Not Harry Reid. The Senate Democratic leader since 2005, and the Senate majority leader since 2007, is not one to reflect before speaking. His mouth runs far ahead of his brain.” The Grandfather
To get to their communist utopia, the Left was remove the concept of personal property. “Donovan’s activist HUD is following the edict of the Dalton School, “Go Forth Unafraid,” a relic of the progressive reformers of Teddy Roosevelt’s time who blamed all the ills of society and sought to publicly expose corruption in politics and in business. Even Roosevelt warned about possible pitfalls of keeping one’s attention ever trained downward, “on the muck,” and warned that the attack was of use only if it is absolutely truthful. In the end, this campaign is not about truth or what is best for minorities either. It is about power and control dictated from the hands of progressives in Washington, D.C. It is a power grab and an elaborate social engineering plan that circumvents individual responsibility and subverts our freedom to control our property as we see fit.” Progressivism Unbound at HUD
Read this one. It’s pretty scary. “During Glenn Beck’s rousing weekend speech at the Summer Retreat for the David Horowitz Freedom Center, when discussing the fact that Americans do not know their own history, he pulled out a book with a shockingly prescient message. Beck noted:
“The President when he went to run for his second term…put out a video and it was on and then it was off. And it went away quickly because when I saw the title I said, “Oh I know that title.” And it was pulled within the first day.”
What was the title of the video, and why might it have been pulled?” Did you happen to catch the eerie 1945 Leftist playbook that Glenn Beck was recently quoting from?
I am so tired of the lies that I can barely listen to a Democrat anymore. “Anyway, we’re now at the point where the administration will lie to us, even though everyone knows they’re lying and they know we know they’re lying. I guess their strategy is to lie so much that everyone just becomes numb to the deceit and the lies start to seem routine. It’s remarkable, but that’s where we are. And there are still a few Obama apologists who will defend the lies to try and create a sliver of doubt and sow confusion among more gullible voters.” The Insiders: More Obamacare lies, no one is surprised
She has no shame. “Obamacare has been a long workshop in improv tragicomedy. The delays, regulatory rewritings and extensions are always an attempt simply to live for another day, to put off the political pain of cancellations, or rate hikes, or layoffs, and to manage to get just enough traction to make the law viable. Millions have now signed up for the exchanges, but it’s not clear that the demographic mix is right to avoid steep premium increases by insurers in 2015. So far, it looks like young people— essential to making the economics of the exchanges work — aren’t signing up in the necessary numbers. The extension is surely a ploy to squeeze every last “young invincible” out of the current enrollment period, and hope the news for the rates in 2015 isn’t so bad. And after that? It’s anybody’s guess. All we know for sure is that whatever Kathleen Sebelius says today may not be operative tomorrow.” The Baghdad Bob of health insurance
Burned due to water skis on fire? “Big data is the new frontier in medical research, making sense of the huge amount of generated health care data. But can this go too far? In an effort to push specificity to the limit, some ICD-10 codes have gotten silly. Codes exist for being hurt at the opera (Y92253), walking into a lamppost (Y92253), walking into a second lamppost (W2202XD), getting sucked into a jet engine (V97.33XD), and being burned due to water skis on fire (V91.07XD). But this is not the Achilles heel of the ICD-10. First, medical practices and hospitals must know and have all of these 68 thousand codes readily available to add to the medical record in order to bill correctly and hope to be paid. One more distraction for physicians, aside from all of the daily distractions of electronic records. When physicians pay more attention to their computer screen or tablet than to the patient, guess who suffers. This is the reason why texting and driving is illegal.” The October Surprise that Could Cripple the Practice of Medicine
Quitting. “Doctors are smothered by destructive regulations that add costs, raise our overhead and ‘gum up the works,’ making patient treatment slower and less efficient, thus forcing doctors to focus on things other than patient care and reduce the number of patients we can help each day.” One Doctor’s Viral Letter Exposes the Harrowing Reality of Obamacare’s ‘War Against Doctors’
Manipulation and coordinated propaganda not working. “The political calculus is that vulnerable Republicans can be bludgeoned into joining Democrats to support poll-tested and popular pocketbook issues—thereby changing the political subject and rallying the Democratic base. If they don’t, Democrats can hammer the GOP as villains through November, thereby changing the political subject, and rallying the Democratic base. A version of this, after all, worked for Mr. Obama against Mitt Romney. It isn’t working this time—at least not yet. The Republican response to date has been a united and calm refusal to fold. If anything, they’re going on offense—driven by a genuine belief that the Obama pitch is failing to get traction. “Republicans just feel no pressure to act on these issues,” a senior GOP House aide tells me.” Strassel: Obama’s Inequality Pitch Falls Flat: The public doesn’t seem excited by a higher minimum wage or longer unemployment benefits.
Removing religion from the public square is priority one for Leftists such as Obama. “First, the Greens (owners of Hobby Lobby) have alleged that their religious beliefs include a belief in treating employees well, a belief they practice by, among other things, offering quality health care to their employees. (Their religious beliefs are also why they start employees at nearly double the minimum wage, reduce operating hours to promote family time, and provide other benefits.) The government has never contested the sincerity of those beliefs. And that should end the argument. The government is forcing the Greens to cover contraception or drop insurance altogether, both of which would burden their religious exercise.” Prof. Michael McConnell (Stanford) on the Hobby Lobby arguments
Another stupid comment by Obama. “In other presidential activities representing America abroad, Obama visited the ancient Roman Coliseum Thursday. Looking out on the precious, historic ruins whose construction began 1,944 years ago, the Harvard grad, profound thinker and current President of the United States observed: ‘This is bigger than some current baseball stadiums.’” Who are you going to believe, Obama or the Pope?
