News and Commentary for December 29

How anyone can still think President Obama is a good president is beyond me… “As we have seen in Syria, Egypt, Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere, when the president loses interest in foreign events, he simply deems them to be successes. If they don’t interest him, they shouldn’t interest us. So civil wars, mass death, the collapse of central governments, the weakening of pro-American regimes, and the rise of militant Islamic forces are perfectly acceptable. As long as we avert our eyes from what’s happening, all will be right with the world. Or so Mr. Obama seems to believe. He’s wrong about this, as he is wrong about so many other things. After hard-earned and heroic gains, Barack Obama is the president who lost Iraq.” The President Who Lost Iraq

From the comments: “I would remind everyone that in recent Colorado recall elections Bloomberg et al outspent grass roots by the magnitude of over 10 to 1 and still came out lopsided looser. Never underestimate the power of grassroots particularly considering that the Colorado state senators’ recall efforts first had to overcome Colorado GOP opposition and then take on democrats.” “Minnesota might be an extreme case, but there is no doubt that the Democrats’ alliance of unions and rich people will put Republicans, the party of the middle class, at a financial disadvantage for the foreseeable future.” Republicans Are Overwhelmed By A Sea of Democratic Cash

Oh I hope so! “And they are unlikely to be kind to the people who sold them that bill of goods. Democrats can comfort themselves by noting that the public disapproves of Republicans, too. But if Obamacare is a major political issue in November 2014 — and indications are that it will be — then Democrats will be the party that pays. And all their optimism of 2013 will seem like it was a long, long time ago.” Democrats will pay political price for Obamacare in 2014

The Middle Class be damned. “Still, for some solidly middle-class households in their 50s and early 60s, ObamaCare will mean either paying more than they can afford, going with minimal or no coverage, or working less to qualify for subsidies.” ObamaCare: Older Workers Could Pay 25% Of Income

It’s about to get really ugly. “We know how Democratic Party leaders will respond to those numbers: knowing that they are doomed if liberal turnout is low, they will go over the top on every possible occasion between now and November, trying to whip their troops into a frenzy of hatred for Republicans. We have seen that already, and the strategy will only intensify as the election draws closer. Will it work? History says that it will, to some degree. But Obamacare will remain an awfully big elephant from which to try to distract voters.” Democrats’ Woes Continue to Mount

Is Senator Franken worried? “I think what this signifies is the terror that the Obamacare debacle has struck into the hearts of Democrats who are running for election next year. No Democrat is safe. That certainly includes Al Franken, who is eminently beatable, if only we Republicans can come up with a credible candidate.” Al Franken Launches His Re-Election Campaign on MoveOn.Org

How can we make this stop? “Some of my Republican friends sometimes respond by asserting that Democrats are worse, but I grade on a curve. Democrats seek to make government bigger because they believe in statism. So it’s not terribly surprising or philosophically inconsistent for them to become lobbyists and get rich pushing to expand the burden of government (though some Democrats lobby for things that are not completely consistent with a left-wig agenda, such as special tax breaks or defense contracts, so it’s not a black-and-white divide). Republicans, however, tell voters that they believe in small government and individual liberty. So when GOP politicians and staffers decide to get rich by lobbying for bigger government, that is more disgusting. Doing the wrong thing is bad. But doing the wrong they when you know it is wrong is even worse.” The Most Despicable and Reprehensible People in Washington Are Republicans

Reminder: the budget did NOT contain cuts to any other Federal workers OTHER THAN members of our military. “Duff, of Concerned Veterans for America, said Ryan was screwing over the types of  veterans who were deployed three times to Afghanistan and Iraq and said it was “outrageous” for Ryan to claim that the benefits were ‘extremely generous.’” Marine Vet Slams Paul Ryan’s ‘Outrageous Attitude’ Toward Military Pension Cuts

Slow-boiling the frog. “Cultural warfare of this nature is the application of theory developed by Antonio Gramsci. Acknowledging that a violent overthrow of the Italian system was impossible, Gramsci realized that the country could still be turned communist if the same radical ideas were instead inserted slowly, over the course of time, rather than in a single upheaval. In other words, the Bolshevik ‘war of maneuver’ could not be reproduced in Italy; it would be necessary to pursue a ‘war of position’, which focused on society and culture with a goal changing the fabric from the inside, to encourage socialism through gradualism and salami tactics. This slow whittling away the fabric of society and replacing it with their own eventually causes a passive revolution in which the hegemonic group, culture, way of life, even civilization, is replaced by a new counterhegemony (read: communism).” Phil Robertson, Gramsci, and Tolerance

Let us all be part of the revolution and help spread the truth. “As 2013 comes to a close, two important developments have the potential to turn the tide against Obama’s “fundamental transformation” of the United States. First is the public rejection of the so-called “Affordable Care Act” due to its cancellation of health care plans for millions of Americans. Second is the public backlash against the suspension of a character in the “Duck Dynasty” television show, over his critical comments about gay rights.” The Counter-Revolution Begins

Can we sink any lower? “We have three years before January 2017. If we are to have any credible press left at all, it has just 36 months to rediscover its ethics and professionalism — or more or less forfeit its integrity for a generation. The president too must either start respecting the Constitution or expect that his successors will follow in his footsteps in pressing their agendas by any means necessary — while always citing the Obama example. Will the next president simply drop the employer-mandate portion of Obamacare? And if he did, would the media point out that he was not faithfully executing the laws that had been enacted?” 2017 and the End of Ethics

Is America really waking up? “There is a growing tiredness with Pajama Boy nation. Millions are sick of being lectured, caricatured, and slandered for their supposed pathologies by the Sandra Flukes of the age and those in their pajamas who still grasp with two hands their hot chocolate. Add all their annoying Stalinist efforts up — to selectively going after Chick-fil-A or the Washington Redskins or Duck Dynasty — and the public is becoming tired of the shrill nerdocracy.” Pajama Boy Nation

Why is the media so silent? “The massacre of Christians in Islamic countries, the decline of American power, the ongoing, mostly secret, negotiations between the Obama administration and the Iranian regime over the fate of several Americans held in Iran and a possible North Korean collapse. The Most Underreported Foreign News Stories of 2013

Peter Wehner nails it! “It strikes me that more and more Americans are now viewing the president in a similar fashion. They’ve seen the Obama act for five long years, and it’s become tiresome. We’re on to the verbal tricks, the stale formulations, the endless straw men and unmatched sense of moral superiority. We’ve figured out that the reality has never come close to meeting the expectations and promises. And so words that had a magical effect before now elicit a roll of the eyes. Barry is just being Barry. Don’t take him seriously. He’s just a talker.” Rolling Our Eyes at Obama

President Whiner. “A new Gallup poll finds President Obama’s approval rating at 39 percent and his disapproval rating at 54 percent. But it’s not just that the public is increasingly displeased with the job Mr. Obama is doing; they are growing weary of the whole packaged deal. They are frustrated with the president, his style, his attitude, his approach to the job.” Obama’s Tedious Act Grown Old and Stale

This is a MUST READ. “In case you don’t know the full extent of GLAAD’s fascism, let me tell you what GLAAD did to me.” Life on GLAAD’s Blacklist

Another MUST READ. “The almost non-stop stream of Obamacare twists and turns should not divert our attention from radical new regulation of mortgage financing that will take effect, pursuant to Dodd-Frank, on January 10, 2014. Diane Katz of the Heritage Foundation has the details.” The new Dodd-Frank rules — modern liberalism in a nutshell

I suspect that he suspects correctly. “I suspect that the Times story tells us more about Hillary Clinton’s assessment of the threat Benghazi poses to her likely 2016 run for president than it does about what happened in Benghazi. But to the extent that the Times story is viewed as shedding a new, different light on the Benghazi, perhaps the House should hold new hearings on the attack.” The New York Times’ revisionist account of Benghazi

Someone on the Left finally begins to acknowledge the war on men. “She starts by pointing to the diminished status of military service. “The entire elite class now, in finance, in politics and so on, none of them have military service—hardly anyone, there are a few. But there is no prestige attached to it anymore. That is a recipe for disaster,” she says. “These people don’t think in military ways, so there’s this illusion out there that people are basically nice, people are basically kind, if we’re just nice and benevolent to everyone they’ll be nice too. They literally don’t have any sense of evil or criminality.”” Camille Paglia: A Feminist Defense of Masculine Virtues

What President Nixon has brought us as a result of establishing the EPA—Part I. “In the midst of an unparalleled energy boom, U.S. electricity prices have skyrocketed to new highs. This paradox is a result not of the free market, but of runaway government “green” regulation.” Electricity Prices Soar As Government Regulation Surges

What President Nixon has brought us as a result of establishing the EPA—Part II. “Having been stymied by court defeats such as the Supreme Court’s deciding that the Second Amendment does indeed confer a right to keep and bear arms on individuals throughout the United States, advocates of a gun-free America and a disarmed citizenry are taking a different approach: Go after the ammunition through regulations that stifle domestic production and force the use of more expensive and eco-friendly substitutes.” EPA Pushes Gun Control Through Green Ammo Mandate

By design. “The Border Patrol and other agencies report a “surge” of unaccompanied minors coming across our border. It coincides with the White House’s de facto amnesty via the Dream Act to reward such law breaking.” The Dream Act By Executive Order Draws In New Wave Of Illegal Immigrants
