News and Commentary for October 11

Sarcasm. “Americans should be grateful for the beneficence of our betters. Without the expert orders of experts, what a shambles they make of their everyday lives. Witness how well-run the Federal government is, and just imagine how much more one could benefit by silently sitting back and giving up all control. No more mental effort, no worries, no struggle; just Social Justice and bliss, all the time.” Benefits of ‘progress’: Why tyranny actually improves lives

Not funny. “The Nevada exchange site has been taken down at least twice–October 3rd and October 8th–to apply software patches to fix various bugs. One site security consultant with extensive experience on major government IT projects, but who asked to remain anonymous, summed it up this way, “They are building the airplane the same time they are flying it.” The Nevada ObamaCare Exchanges: A Case Study In Incompetence

Not surprising. This: “Americans have grown more conservative on the whole, but the even more remarkable fact is that the electorate has grown more conservative in every state.” And this: “That conundrum is worth thinking about right now in light of this astonishing fact: When it comes to the policy opinions of American voters, there have been three peak years of conservatism: 1952, 1980, and … right now, according to Professor James A. Stimson, whose decades-long “policy mood” project tracks the changing opinions of the U.S. electorate.” More Conservative, Less Republican

Drip. Drip. Drip. “What matters to the White House is constructing a structure to Obamacare which, over time, becomes more difficult to repeal.” White House Doesn’t Care If is Ready, As Long As It Exists

Truth. “When the Obama administration turned to the private sector to create a functional website capable of sustaining massive influxes of traffic while processing financial donations, it produced a technological work of art. In contrast, when a government bureaucracy led by the Obama administration contracted a site with three years’ prior notice and a budget of over $600 million, it produced a monstrosity so big that many have argued it needs to be totally scrapped and rebuilt from scratch.” If Only Obama Cared as Much for Obamacare as He Did About Re-election

Interesting observations from Dr. Ablow, a psychiatrist. “President Obama’s rhetoric is finally coming closer to what appears to be his psychological truth: Because America victimized him and countless millions of others, any person or party or movement that opposes his views and does not yield to him is not just his adversary, but abusive, predatory and even threatening.” Is Obama Locked in Victim Mentality

From Rush Limbaugh: Obama’s 37 Approval Means Something. “At some point all of Washington is going to be lumped into the people responsible for this, because it has been obvious for the last month that there is a clear effort being undertaken to do something about this, and it’s also obvious that there is not a whole lot of help coming for the people who are trying to do something about this.  And yet massive majorities of people want something done about Obamacare.  It’s going to destroy things.  It’s gonna destroy people’s futures. Not everybody, of course, nothing ever destroys everybody.  There will be people who benefit from it, and that’s gonna make people dissatisfied as well.”

When the press is intimidated by our president, we’re in trouble. “Consequently, we have a media that didn’t scrutinize Obama early on because it backed his agenda and won’t scrutinize him now because it’s intimidated.” Obama White House Not Transparent Nor Open

Sad. “I have never been more embarrassed to admit that I’m former National Park Service and I will never return. The Park Ranger has long served as a representative of good government, someone who the public looked up to and admired. Through this calculated, politically-driven hackery and thug tactics, the image of the ranger and the NPS with the American public has been broken, probably irrevocably.” The Park Police, Part Deux: Hot Cops

We want our money back. “Sarah Hall Ingram, who served as commissioner of the Tax Exempt and Government Entities Division from 2009 to 2012, was so good at her job of suppressing the political speech of administration opponents by using the tax code as a bludgeon that she was rewarded during her tenure with four bonuses totaling $103, 390.” ObamaCare Enforcer Likely Shared Tax Data With White House

Liars. “The White House insists that the health care law has not affected hiring. That’s not what the numbers show.” ObamaCare and the Part-Time Economy

“Perhaps we ought, unlike the Detroit journalist, seek not to believe, but on the contrary to disbelieve. We should force ourselves not to trust in anything other than statistical penchant of the common herd to follow its self interest. We can count on people to look out for Number One. Your mileage thereafter may vary.” Government for Sinners

The Father of the Tea Party speaks. “Rick Santelli gives a dramatic “guess who said this” reading to Barack Obama’s imaginary 2006 senatorial speech against raising the debt limit. Power Line readers know who “said it” (he didn’t actually say it) because John wrote about it here. We can’t go to the tape to hear Obama say it because Obama never gave the speech; he simply had the speech inserted into the Congressional Record. Santelli’s dramatic reading therefore serves a good purpose.” Senator Obama rises: A dramatic reading

How do they get away with this? “A sharp reader caught a statistical problem with the much-cited NBC/WSJ poll that shows Republicans are getting whooped in the shutdown: In today’s NBC/WSJ poll, 1 in 5 respondents work for the government. Only 8 percent of general pop works for govt.” About that NBC/WSJ Poll that Killed Republicans on the Shutdown…

If the government can confiscate this much money from the people in such a few days, why the heck do we need to raise the debt ceiling again?  Things are really getting out of control! Feds Collect $56 Billion in Taxes in 9 Days of Shut Down

Anyone see this reported in the MSM? “Democrat crook and former mayor of Detroit, Kwame Kilpatrick, was sentenced today in federal court to 28 years in prison for public corruption, the longest corruption sentence ever handed down to a public official. Kilpatrick was endorsed by Obama and was once mentioned as a possible candidate for president.  Kilpatrick named himself Detroit’s “hip hop mayor” who was “anointed by God to be mayor.” Now he is known as the “worst mayoral leader of the past decade“. Kilpatrick was running a criminal enterprise stealing millions from the city of Detroit, his convictions included tax crimes, racketeering, bribery and extortion.” Former Detroit Mayor and Obama Pal Kwame Kilpatrick Sentenced to 28 Years

A liberal commentator acknowledges what we all knew would be true a long time ago. Ezra Klein: Let’s Face It. They’ve Done a Terrible Job Launching Obamacare

Hey Peggy, how about more importantly, it’s definitely not what the people wanted! Which is why it was passed in the middle of the night. “It’s not what Americans were promised—or even what Congress enacted.” Noonan: Now Is the Time to Delay ObamaCare

“The NPS has made it clear where they stand with regard to the American people. And so when the shutdown is finally over, I’m expecting a Congressional reckoning for them. If they could pull off this much assholery with only ‘essential’ staff, then there’s a whole lot of very necessary cutting to be done within the NPS.” The National Park Service: Assholes in Green
