News and Commentary for October 6

Quote of the day: “Free and government should never be used in the same sentence. EVER.” Dennis Prager

Happy Halloween! Chomping Monsters

Monsters

Check it out! Our one and only Rep. David Schweikert is on the list! “From the libertarians to the veterans to the medical professionals, meet the group of lawmakers putting the pressure on Boehner.” Holding the Line: The House Conservatives Driving the Obamacare Debate

A disaster in the making. “What happens if you just lay out the welcome mat and say that everyone, regardless of whether you are able bodied or disabled, has the choice of just staying home and making a survivable, though certainly not extravagant, income, absolutely guaranteed by the government, no questions asked. For the rest of your life. How many people would still work?” Swiss look to go all in on socialism, assure income to everyone even without working

Insanity. “O’Connell said he got a letter from Park Service Director Jonathan Jarvis ordering him to shut down. The Park Service also told him he was violating his contract, which expires this year.” Blue Ridge inn’s act of defiance lasts about 2 hours

We have three more years of this to look forward to. Lucky us. “Shutting down the government in an effort to use a budget fight to get rid of Obamacare is not the strategy I would have recommended for the GOP. And while Republicans can be blamed for starting the shutdown, it’s increasingly apparent that President Obama and the Democrats deserve the lion’s share of blame for not only prolonging it but also making it as painful as possible.” The Budget Fight and Obama’s Vindictive Streak

You know all about the battle on Capitol Hill, but now you need to read about the actions of one brave young Teacher’s Assistant at one of our most liberal higher institutions of learning. Bravo Jason Morgan! “Two battles were joined this week, one on Capitol Hill and another at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (the symbolic core of which is known as Bascom Hill). In both cases, free men who refused to be cowed struck back at overreaching tyrants.” When Mettle Meets the Toads

BINGO! “We can tell that liberals don’t really care about the poor because if they did, they’d be trying to alleviate poverty rather than just ensuring that the poor don’t starve to death.” What Democrats Really Care About

A reminder about the enormity of it all and why it must be stopped! “The central government’s budget consumes almost a quarter of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product, and ObamaCare means government takeover of another one-sixth of our economy. Add state and local government spending to Washington, DC’s outlays, and the percentage of GDP now going to the public sector tops 40. Once ObamaCare fully kicks in, well over half of America’s GDP will go in to the public till.” Obama and the Counterrevolution

My home state has gone off the rails. “In the meantime, the word will get out that illegals can drive in California and avoid ICE. The irony here is that California is attracting illegal immigrants at a time when it is a tough place to find a job:  11 of the 20 cities with highest unemployment are in California.” California is the place to be if you are an illegal immigrant

Did anyone think it could get this bad? “This is where Leftism leads. In the name of loving the people, it very quickly turns on the people.  We are seeing that stage now, presumably temporarily.  But even temporarily, it is an abrogation of the president’s oath to the Constitution.” The People Must be Punished

This provides an awesome accounting of why Obamacare won’t work as promised. “If you’re puzzled why ObamaCare is so polarizing, consider how a law that’s ostensibly about fairness — health care for all — can be so unfair.” It’s obvious why people don’t trust ObamaCare

Tell your friends! From the CBO: “Based on estimates drawn from CBO and OMB data, 83 percent of government operations will continue. This figure assumes that the government pays amounts due on appropriations obligated before the shutdown ($512 billion), spends $225 billion on exempted military and civilian personnel, pays entitlement benefits for those found eligible before the shutdown (about $2 trillion), and pays interest costs when due ($237 billion). This is about 83 percent of projected 2014 spending of $3.6 trillion.” Where’s sense of crisis in a 17% government shutdown?

We don’t want it! “The real story isn’t the government shutdown, but rather the insistence by President Obama and Reid to foist Obamacare on the American people.” The Story Behind the Government Shutdown

My greatest fear. “While the Labour Party officials involved in the scandal have come in for much-deserved criticism, the more important point was made in one of the emails written by a Labour minister: when the government is in charge, “everything you do is going to be political, whether you intend it to be or not.” It is hard to understand why anyone would want America’s health care system to be politicized.” Government Medicine Is Politicized Medicine

“Does it even occur to Downie that Obama’s claim to deliver “the most transparent administration ever” (not just incrementally more transparent than before) was simply a load of hogwash?” NYT reporter: Obama admin “most closed, control-freak administration I’ve ever covered”

Check out the list of what’s been shut down! “Although Barack Obama’s chefs have been deemed “essential,” employees at the National Institutes of Health who offer last-chance experimental cancer treatments for children suffering from cancer have not.” *UPDATED* The List: Unnecessarily Shut Down by Obama to Inflict Public Pain

Our military be damned. NBC: Police Remove Vietnam War Veterans at Memorial Wall

More on Obama’s war on our Veterans. More veterans removed at Vietnam War Memorial

So California can set immigration policy, but Arizona can’t?  The state needs to be sued. Gov. Brown signs another bill easing conditions for immigrants
